I agree. I love the Sony 35mm on my a5100. OSS is more important to me than being a hair sharper with Sigma. This and the 18-135 are my most used lenses.
I'm reading and viewing reviews to learn what could be the most useful lenses for my new Sony camera (I'm new to photograpy, and this is my first proper camera with changable lenses). It seems that the combo you just mentioned is really the best and most useful.
@@paganmin1214 The main reason is the OSS. I mainly shoot handheld and the OSS helps a lot. Should you own the KIT Lens, try to deactivate the stabilization and shoot some footage. Then you could find out if you can live without OSS. But both are great lenses!
I've been using this with my a6400, and it's an awesome combination! And when I throw them on a Crane M2 gimbal, it's another level of awesomeness. Great storytelling setup. My favorite lens, for sure, I love the roughly 50mm look for a variety of situations. Looks like real life to me. I am also using the 16-50 kit lens, and can get great shots with it. I feel like that lens is taken for granted as a "throwaway" lens, but if you throw an ND filter on it, and get your settings right, it's got great character. At least to me. ;) In any case.... Great video, as always, thank you.
@@desirewithinus I think the a6400 is a better choice because you have so much more great glass to choose from. As long as you can figure out how to stabilize it, it’s really an incredible camera. Especially if you get a handle on all the picture profiles. Really special.
@@RockWILK Thanks. My main purpose will be taking photos, especially my kid + some general purpose. Taking it out whenever I'm with my family. So I needed something compact and light weight. Carrying a 1.3kg dslr all day is no fun 😑.
@@desirewithinus The a6400 is really small and so light. I mainly have either my Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS on it or my Zeiss Batis 25mm f2, Which is a little bit heavier and bigger, but still pretty small. Both incredible lenses, and the whole set up is really easy to carry around with you all the time. The Zeiss is not stabilized though, but it’s an amazing lens. And if you really wanna go small, just use the kit lens, people say disparaging things about it, but trust me, you can get great footage from that little lens. And it’s stabilized, and it’s got a pretty decent range, and once you get all your settings together in the camera, you can do great work with that lens. Best of luck with all of it, I’m sure no matter which camera you choose, you’re going to be very happy.
Wonderful video. Perhaps the best lens review I've ever seen. Informative explanations and hypnotizing visuals. Great work! My Sony 35mm will be here in a couple days! :)
There's no affordable 23mm for indoor. There's zeiss one but I'd rather buy sigma 16mm instead, more unique and wideeeeeeee. I'll wait for viltrox 23mm 1.4 and see the review before getting it
I will buy this lens for my Sony a6300 (for shooting video). At first I wanted to buy a Sony 18-105, but it differs little from the Sony 16-50 (I already have one).
I want to buy this lens but some say that it is not enough sharp to take photos. I will use it on gimbal. At 1:53 i noticed that video is extremely sharp. Did you apply any sharpen filter in the post? Do you think FE 35 mm F1.8 would be better than this when using on A6400 for videography?
Great and interesting review, as always on your channel 👍 It's been five years though. Would you recommend any other lens right now in 2024? For no ibis A6400 and mostly all-around video.
Hi, nice video!, i really enjoyed, i was wondering, as you have much more experience with this lense (i just got it) what you think are the sweet points? I've read f/2.8 . f/5.6 and f/11, could you share your experience? thank you
Hi, since I shoot video most of the time and therefore the absolute sharpness is not as important, I use it mostly at 2.0 or even at 1.8 to get the most cinematic image. But of course it will be sharper at 2.8.
Nice video! Good job! Bro, i have a6400 and sony 35mm 1.8 oss. But I have a bad quality of the video, I’ve already bought a camera completely, I shoot in full hd 30fps 1/60 shutter speed and no sharpness, in what settings did you shoot this video?
It always depends on which focal length you need. The talking head parts of all my videos are taken on this lens. The Sigma 30 1.4 would also be a good choice.
The 35 will give you more bokeh because of the focal length but it really depends on what you want to shoot. The 16mm is the better choice for travel or landscape, the 35 works better for people, especially close ups.
Yes, of course but it depends for what you need the lens. If you want to capture the whole space it might not be the right lens. But for portraits for example it works fine.
Thyago Videomaker Sony’s sharpness is very bad, 2-3 times better on sigma, I have both lenses and sigma out of competition, and sony have misfocus (sorry for eng, not my native lang)
That’s the review I was looking for. Thanks so much.

For my a5100 i have the kit lens and SELP 18-200, the next one will be 35mm 1.8

Fantastic video. I was thinking about buying the Sony 35mm. Now I'm convinced. Thank you.
Watched this to get my 6400, now watching this again to get the 35mm lens 💸💸💸
😀 you will not regret it
why you prefer to sony 35mm to sigma 30mm ?

I agree, this is a great lens. Unfortunately a bit too narrow for indoor usage but otherwise very good and 1.8 with OSS is better than 1.4 without

You mean the full frame lens? For me this lens is easily sharp enough - also for photos. I didn't apply any additional sharpness in post.
@@MountMediaChannel yes FE version can also be used in apsc cameras. More expensive than E version and bokeh quality is better.
Great and interesting review, as always on your channel 👍 It's been five years though. Would you recommend any other lens right now in 2024? For no ibis A6400 and mostly all-around video.
Hm - truth is I've switched to full frame in the meantime - so I'm no longer up to date when it comes to APS-C lenses
As you should. Thanks anyway. In terms of aps-c primes with OSS that Sony lens is probably still a good choice@@MountMediaChannel
This man is so freaking EPIC. Low key creepy. But ultimately epppppiiiiiccc
hahahahhahhhahahahaahha
Haha, yeah he is weird but epic
Your perception of creepy can be someone else's normal and your normal can be someone else's creepy. It all depends where your mind is at
Fantastic video, thanks for the review of this lens. Cheers! :)
Thx mate!
How far away is the camera from you at 6:45?
what mic clip on do you use sir?
An cheap one by Tonor
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Nice review. I would like to see how this lens manage with totally dark space. I mean for example stars by night. Thanks
ty so much for the video... answered all my questions :D... how far from the camera u need to be inorder to obtain the blurred effect?
You mesn a blurred background? This effect will increase if you get closer to your subject.
thanks, I think I'll have a go at this lens. so OSS can be turned off just with a swtch or how does it work ?
No, only using the menu

In 4K/25 - Cine4 - Detail -5
On a tripod and live streaming, which one is the best?
It always depends on which focal length you need. The talking head parts of all my videos are taken on this lens. The Sigma 30 1.4 would also be a good choice.

Same here i dont shoot photographs not for living.. i just want to take photos of moments
Sir which lens is best for bokeh in cinematography in a6400 16mm vs 35mm? Pls tell.. It's my dream.. so which lens to buy? Sigma 16mm vs 35mm sony.
The 35 will give you more bokeh because of the focal length but it really depends on what you want to shoot. The 16mm is the better choice for travel or landscape, the 35 works better for people, especially close ups.
@@MountMediaChannel thank you sir...lots of love from India....and from me. So to shoot film 35mm is best ok.

is it a full frame lens, or made for apsc?
APS-C
a6500 with Sigma 30mm 1.4 or a6400 with Sony 35mm OSS ? What would be the best combo to get image stabilization plus Autofocus?
IMO A6400 + Sony 35 - better autofocus and OSS is probably better than IBIS - but just my opinion since I didn't make a comparison
Hi, I'm new to this. Can 35mm be usable indoors? And by that I meant places where space is a bit limited (like a house)
Yes, of course but it depends for what you need the lens. If you want to capture the whole space it might not be the right lens. But for portraits for example it works fine.
Is this lens good for portrait video ?
Yes, absolutely
Thanks, mate!
Well done!
amazing review
Thx mate!
Would you recommend OVERALL the Sigma 56mm 1.4 or the Sony 35mm f1.8 for the Sony A6500 ? Thank you.
The Sony 35 1.8 - much better allrounder. The Sigma is great for Portraits tough
is it good to for astrophotograghy? let say Auroras
Yes, but a wider lens would be more suitable
Helo! This lens = Full frame ~50mm?
Yes
Yes, equivalent to 52.5mm
Or is it better to buy Sony 28mm 2.0?
IMO if you shoot a lot handheld, the 35 is the better choice because of the OSS. But depends on your needs
@@MountMediaChannel As a result, I bought Sony 18-105) Lens for reporting. But for art videos I would take
35 1.8

I have the same kit lol 👍
Picked this over sigma because of the oss
I love mine. I use that and the Sony 70-300.
Yes, it's a great lens
