it feels like this game feels so hidden by all the crazy games we've gotten in the past 2 months, with the release of Mario wonder and RPG, I feel like this game had barley any time to shine
1:42 I was the guy who discovered the easter egg! It's good to see someone have a really positive view of the game, and I feel mostly the same. Except about the music, I think only a few tracks are actually not good. Like even Press Factory Act 1 gets flack but I think it's great. I have a similar opinion of the bosses too, but a few of the transition animations could have been made half as long with no loss
how does an Easteregg like that look like a bug? it plays SO damn fast, fastest chillidog showoff in the west. whoever had the idea for that, you're a freaking genius! but I do hope they fix it and make it longer than 1 single frame so more people can notice it haha
@@AltKaxREAL I think that was the point though. A little thing they put in for fun that some people might not ever find. Plenty of games do things like that, and it makes it more special for the people who do find it.
Can you please consider bringing back the monthly e shop browsing videos? They were very comforting and entertaining and helped me discover good indie games I wouldn’t have know about without the videos

I probably wouldn’t mind waiting to hit the boss if they only took 3 hits to defeat like in a Mario game. But because you have to wait in between hits 6 times or more to defeat the boss, it takes way too long. It sucks. Even the toughest bosses of a Mario game don’t force you to wait that long. It’s ridiculous. I especially hate the final boss against Fang in Trip’s Story. Having to start 10 minutes of progress over again is not fun.
As much as I love they made Fang a more threatening villain, (and it's nice to have one besides Eggy, Metal Sonic, or insert one-shot monster) his boss fight felt more unfair then challenging. Even once you learn how to dodge his one hit K.O. attacks, it's easy to make one measly mistake, and it's unfair they don't let you restart from the second phase of the battle, and considering how lonv the battle is, they really should of made it into it's own separate stage from the final stage. It makes beating the stage within 10 minutes to get a time bonus impossible. Which is just bad game development. Even the old hard final bosses in Sonic that don't give you any rings felt more fair, and didn't drag you on that long with very little reward for your patience.
@@dmk_yt the game bombed in japan but sonic hasnt do well there at all since sa2, with frontiers being the exception, it did fine in europe and the u.s
10:34 here, I wouldn't say that Act Amy's theme of Lagoon City sounds like the first route of a Pokémon. It moreso reminds me of....a city or town in a Pokémon game. XDD
Probably a hot take, but I found Trip's story and the last story of Superstars infinitely more infuriating than anything in the Final Horizons update for Frontiers. I'd gladly climb those towers and do that Titan boss rush than play through Trip's awful level design where their idea of "hard" is just place a crapton of spikes and enemies everywhere so you can't go 30 seconds without running into something you couldn't see coming. The next time I play Superstars, I'm just gonna play the main story and stop.
@@joaquindiaz3621 Right. I felt like every time I hit a difficult wall in Final Horizons, there was always an easy enough solution, even if that solution was a bit obtuse. But with Trip's story and some other really hard games I've played, there is no solution, you just have to deal with it. If it's well designed, then I might feel really accomplished when I win, but if it's not, all I feel is relief that it's over and I can move on and never do it again.
I feel like so many problems with platformer co-op would be fixed with just adding online co-op instead and letting the screens be rendered on their set own set ups so your not bubbling unless you wanted too and stuff, it make for a lot better co-op experience.
See? I agree! They DID this (not online of course due to tech back then) with Sonic Advance 3! I had two GBAs and two games and tried it out with my sis. We didn't impact one another (save for one boss). My sis would be behind many times but it didn't slow me because Sonic Advance 3 gave us our own screens (setups like you said SapphicSara) and we didn't impact each other unlike this game and Sonic 4 Episode 2 coop! It was nice (save for that you can call your partner from anywhere without consent by using a button. that can be fixed if both of us was required to use the call function) but to me that co-op style was WAY better that this typical platform co-op same screen style! I hate this same screen style! I don't like this style on platform co-op especially in Sonic games where you will outrun people only to be slowed by them. I wonder if SEGA forgot the Sonic Advance 3 co-op style existed in Sonic Advance 3? (Sigh) It's a shame.
It's kinda wild to think about how we got a 2D Mario game & a 2D Sonic game, let alone in the same month, both of them can be beaten in a similar amount of time, and yet the Sonic game doesn't feel worth the 60 bucks. Look, I enjoyed Superstars outside of Trip's Padding Out Cheap Enemy Placement for the Sake of Difficulty Story(and to an extent Last Story, but that was more cause I forgot the plot of the game so I was super confused about it existing), but even though I'm a Sonic fan through and through, Mario Wonder was so freaking good that I actually feel like I'll look back on it with more love than even games like Mario Odyssey, thus it feels like it was worth the full price tag.

Honestly, I've seen many reviews of this game, including Johnny's, and I think I prefer yours. It feels good to have a laidback opinion without souring my decision on buying the game full price. Even though I kinda regret it since it just went on sale in Black Friday, I still had a great time with it. I probably won't replay this game but I'm just glad Sonic is seen as a good character universally again. Mario has always dominated but Sonic is my hero and I'll still run with him for the rest of my life.
I don't really agree with your take that Trip's story is better than a Knuckles playthrough in Sonic 3. You say Trip gets level design suited towards her abilities, but it's really only a few spots that expect you to do some wall climbing (and a section in the last level that requires you use Super mode). Knuckles in Sonic 3 is no different, where there are a few sections that require his climbing and gliding abilities to get through. The only really unique thing Trip gets is that her stages are filled with more enemies and spikes. That's the devs' take on what hard mode is, just throw in a lot more enemies and put spikes everywhere. And, personally, I don't think that's great design.
Your rant about the battle mode has made me reflect on all the times Sega has tried to insert a multiplayer aspect into their Sega games. Sonic 2 has the screen squished 2P mode. Sonic 3 had its Competition mode. Chaotix has its 2P Co-op. Spinball has its awful alternating mode. Drift and R were fairly typical for their genre. Same for Meanbean, but that's just Puyo. It was only the arcade Sega Sonic that had a proper co-op campaign for up-to three people. Also Sonic the Fighters exists. But it is both the Adventure era, as well as the Advance era that stand out to me. Adventure 2 Battle is loved within its community for its multiplayer, but the same cannot be said for Heroes or Shadow. Then there is the train wreck that is forever 06, especially considering you couldn't even use the amigo characters. Shuffle was fine despite the actual game. Riders was par for the course when it came to their spinoffs, same for Sega's other racing games. Meanwhile Pocket Adventure just takes the Sonic 2 concept and gives each player their own screen with a ghost of the other player running with you to see whose fastest. Advance continues that, with adding the Chao Hunt multipack minigame that I only ever played since I was the only Sonic fan in my friend group. It takes until Advance 3 for them to FINALLY do a 2 player adventure where you can play through the main game together. Battle is competent in what it does. Also Sonic Rivals exists. Once we hit the boost era things start to fall off when it comes to multiplayer. Colors had it's odd Sonic Simulator. Sonic 4 Ep2 had its classic co-op return. Meanwhile the Story Book games were trying to be Mario Party again for some reason. But hey, Tennis anyone? Thankfully the DS side of things has mostly kept up Advance's momentum, but now were back to single races. Then 3DS had basically the same thing for Generations and Lost World (With Sonic Simulator skins for some reason), and Fire & Ice. Also all of the Olympic games exist. And I don't really want to get started on Mobile. At least Forces Speed Battle was a nice waste of time..... God do I miss Sonic Runners. But after the Sonic 2 style returning in Mania, it seemed like Sega thought the New Super Mario Bros style was the way to go, then made the most barebone online multiplayer mode ever in Superstar's robot battle. Dear Sega. Just give us online coop and allow for 2-4 friends to play through the story at their own pace. Give us the options where once someone finishes, they can back track and free roam to help those stuck until everyone has passed the signpost. Then for time attack and battle lobbies, give us something like Mario Kart 8's system for matching with randoms. Match us up in a 8-12 player room, then have us all race to the finish. 30sec-1min wait after the first finish before everyone's booted back to lobby, repeat. Couch co-op is fun, but damn it do I want my own screen without worrying about someone else's gameplay.
I don’t really hate the bosses either like everyone else does, some of them are horrible, but the majority of them are pretty fun. Now I’m actually curious to hear your full take on the Frontiers DLC because… man it’s crazy what happened with that game post-launch.
AntDude: i like the Fantasy Zone level, is great when Sonic references dormant franchises also AntDude: I don't like the Final Boss in vanilla Frontiers the joke is that the final boss is Ikaruga, another Shmup that's dormant
I found it funny that ant said the Amy act was bad and the only bad part of the main levels aside from the bosses, because you had to push boxes but he really liked the bosses because you had to wait, no hate at all I just found that interesting lol , I hope you make more of these vids this was fun
Fun fact: the bot you use to play battle mode with is cyber stations boss fight, so if you customize it to be metal sonic or knuckles it will appear as metal sonic or knuckles
Did you talked about the Nights Robot, that you have to unlocked by getting the Perfect Bonus in the Bonus Stages, by getting all rings in each layer which is difficult too. Also I like fighting the Robots in the Cyber Stage too

I think the game is pretty dang fun. It’s just a very safe sonic title and I think it just rubs everyone the wrong way. While mania was basically just another 2d sonic title I think it brought enough style and flair to the table to make everyone really enjoy their time with the game while there was points in this game where I wished it would’ve been abit more stylized. The style of it is super cute but I think the safe feeling gameplay is what gets me. Especially when you play a character like knuckles who is really slow with everything he does.
I was actually perfectly fine with pushing fruit baskets with Amy. I also regularly listen to Fang the Hunter's theme. Also, I prefer your videos when I can see your face.
Had to skip a couple parts of the video due to being close to finishing Trip's story, but I overall loved Sonic Superstars! Probably more than Mania if I'm being honest. And that's coming from someone who doesn't play a lot of Classic Sonic games. From the new character, Trip (whose attach & scale walls ability reminds of the Spike Wisp from Sonic Colors). To every level seemingly having a new gimmick, is all pretty satisfying! Tho getting the last couple of Chaos Emeralds were a tad bit annoying, alongside the final boss of the main campaign (which I spent over 3-hours doing solo). Color me impressed nonetheless! Also Lego skins... considering I missed out on Lego Dimensions back in the day... this was a big selling point for me. Also, The Final Horizon in Frontiers did just update (conveniently after everyone went through the pain of doing it in the first place) to tone the difficulty & perfect parry windows to be far more forgiving. Haven't tried it myself, but thank goodness!
so i wouldn't mind the waiting in the boss fights if they let you sneak more than one hit, that or simply reduce the HP to 3 like in other platformers with waiting bosses
Yeah I would give Sonic Superstars a 7 out of 10 because: 1. The lack of customization outside of Battle mode is a bit of an oversight: give Knuckles his cowboy hat already 🤠 2. The boss fights were a tedious slog that murdered the pace of the game, and I would rather have hit spam bosses if it means keeping the pace going and after that final boss in Trip's campaign, I hope that we don't see paying for another 90 years🤬 Yeah Superstars was alright, but I'm not saying it's DLC for it I think that I'll stick with the final horizons DLC instead
Man the final sonic frontiers DLC was so good it almost redeemed the game as a whole for me. ...I mean, apart from the boss rush. Screw that boss rush.
The mechanics of the battle aren't in fact I love v he battle mechanic. What is bad is that you gotta wait a long time to be able to have another hit on the boss. Also the final bosses are very long and especially if your far and die that it's a very long time to catch up. Trips final boss took me like an HR and half to beat and it was super draining.
An 6/10 for me. Aside from the awful bosses & it's horrific pacing, the level designs are hit & miss, the camera is way too closer on Sonic & friend, they physics are kinda weird at times, the Emerald's power are pretty underwhelming ( minus some exception ), the multiplayer is not good at all for an Sonic game and compared to most Sonic game, the game is still unpolished. At the very least, this game is still better than the Sonic 4 epilog and the game can still be fun at times. But compared to other classic or other 2D Sonic games, it's pretty much on the underwhelming side. Especially after Mania.
Yeah the boss fights in Sonic Superstars are more challenging than some of the boss fights in the classic era. Sonic 1 and Sonic CD (minus Metal Sonic) being prime examples.
@blueeyeddrago3540 That's still doesn't change the fact that they shouldn't be over 4 minutes long and even with the Emeralds power, not all of them are gonna down very easily. Only the first 2 parts of the bosses do. But not others with either on backgrounds or auto-scrolling ones.
For all its flaws, it really feels like they put a lot of care in the development of Superstars, and that goes a long way for me in forgiving the elements that are plain bad.
I wish I liked this more, what mostly ruined it for me was the music. I’m not too embarrassed to say that I’m a sucker for sonic music and it actually ruined my experience, especially since all of these stages are based off of classic stages that DID have good music, so it all felt really underwhelming I forgot to mention until you did but yeah not all the music is bad, I do love me some sand sanctuary and lagoon city act 2, im assuming that since my first sonic game was mania my expectations were really high
I mean if you play cyber station zone you see your robot? Drone? What ever it is you can see your custom robot thing for the boss if you didn’t know that also WHY IS EVERYTHING YOU CAN GET FOR THE ROBOT THING SO EXPENSIVE I DOESN’T MAKE SENCE
Sonic superstar is amazing! The color is very nice and it’s a Sonic game. I bought it and hope Sega will bring out a new a sega console with many new physical Sega games . As I am gonna leave Xbox,ps5 and nintendo that are going all digital. Will support Sega again if they don’t go digital.
People hate the game because it’s challenging know what makes me mad? They only hate it since it’s hard and people wanted sonic games to be hard and when it finally is they hate
Small correction though, the character customization is not 100% limited to battle mode, because in that cyber level, the 2 bosses you fight in the cyber level ARE the custom robot, so the appearance of those bosses reflect that of your customized robot
Fang's theme being so bad is so depressing, it should've been one of THE best tracks, but this fan favourite character comes back after decades and is given....THAT.
The main complaints I have with this silly game is the bosses are really eh, the soundtrack is a big ol' mixed bag, there was a two times the game crashed on the switch, there were a few glitches, Press Factory is kinda crap, Lagoon City Act Amy isn't very fun, and Golden Capital Act 2 can actually smeg off. But I do have alot of nice things to say about Superstars. The visuals are nice, the physics are on point, Bridge Island, Speed Jungle, Sky Temple, Pinball Carnival, Lagoon City (Acts 1 and 2), Cyber Station (Mostly), Frozen Base, and Egg Fortress are pretty fun, the battle mode is decent (Even if I didn't play it a whole lot), the Special Stages are alright, they still have the level transitions and cutscenes from Sonic 3 which I am a big fan of, Trip is a pretty cool character and OH BOI I CAN PLAY AS ALL THE CHARACTERS YAY- But I still enjoy the game even if it's very flawed. It's nowhere near as good as Sonic 3 or Mania but it's pretty good. It's a very 7/10 game.
I would say no. While the physics aren't exactly the same as Genesis & Mania, it still plays well than to the powerful spin attack and upgrades that makes it fun. It even brought back the Elemental Shields, which Superstar didn't bring it back.
Originally didnt want to watch as a diehard classic sonic fan i wanted to go into the levels blind. And maybe its more memorqble actually playing it but the video isnt even over and i already forgot most of the stages with how bland the worlds are
The customizable robot IS used in the main game. It appears in the background before the boss of Sky Temple Zone, and later on is the BOSS of Cyber Station Zone. So it's not purely exclusive to Battle Mode
@Zippy_Zolton it's not just one little cameo since there is emphasis put on Eggman taking the Battle Mode Robot prototype in the Sky Temple end of zone transition cutscene, which is paid off in Cyber Station Zone with the Battle Mode Robot being the boss itself, complete with any and all customization options you put on it.
I think $30 would be the most fitting (realistic) price point since it has a little more "production value" than Mania while not being a huge title... I don't think I still would be paying that much myself especially with how SEGA loves to absolutely ruin their PC releases, but that being the full price seems more reasonable to me
“It’s nowhere near as good as sonic mania.” That’s enough for me. They finally made an amazing sonic game, potentially the best in the *entire* series, but undoubtedly the best in almost 30 years. The only negative aspect of that game was something I believe the devs had no control over: reused stages. For them to go from that to this without even trying to make something mania-like with the devs they did use, I could see myself never buying a sonic game again. That’s a big deal for me because sonic 2 was my first ever game, I love sonic, but sega clearly doesn’t. They clearly saw a “new super Mario bros” style sonic as more marketable than a sequel or even spiritual successor to mania.
I mean this IS a spiritual successor to Mania. Plenty of references and music is back from it, and not to mention the ENTIRE PHYSICS ENGINE. And Superstars on it's own is still better than Sonic 2.
The Battle mode really confuses me. Why didn't they just make actual online multiplayer or online competition mode where 4 players as Sonic, Tails, Amy and Knuckles race through the stages with their own screen? Like it'd literally fix the main issue with the local co-op lmao, are they stupid?
I seriously don’t understand why people are making fun of this game so much is it because it’s sonic I think that’s the only reason this is exactly what people were asking for a modern 2-D sonic game with a new level themes and please don’t say oh but it’s similar to all the levels in the franchise sonics always done that so has Mario and if so many people love Mario wonder and say that’s worth $60 why is sonic superstars not worth $60 I feel like this is the perfect 2-d modern sonic game and not enough People are giving this game credit this is in my opinion the perfect sonic 4
Tbh the game was step back like sonic 1 the gameplay was good but the bosses kinda good and bad at the same time and level design kinda mixed some great some fine I hope for next 2d sonic game they fix all the issue from this game like the bosses and the soundtrack too and yeah I think this game should be $20 like that $60 kinda not worth it to my opinion

No, DO NOT redeem Fang! Almost every Sonic villain gets reformed, (and this game does reform one of it's villains) and it's nice Fang is the only recurring animal villain, who is still bad.

Game sold poorly around launch from what I heard, though it did fairly well this previous Black Friday on Amazon

I hate this same screen style! I don't like this style on platform co-op especially in Sonic games where you will outrun people only to be slowed by them. I wonder if SEGA forgot the Sonic Advance 3 co-op style existed in Sonic Advance 3? (Sigh) It's a shame.
It's kinda wild to think about how we got a 2D Mario game & a 2D Sonic game, let alone in the same month, both of them can be beaten in a similar amount of time, and yet the Sonic game doesn't feel worth the 60 bucks.
Look, I enjoyed Superstars outside of Trip's Padding Out Cheap Enemy Placement for the Sake of Difficulty Story(and to an extent Last Story, but that was more cause I forgot the plot of the game so I was super confused about it existing), but even though I'm a Sonic fan through and through, Mario Wonder was so freaking good that I actually feel like I'll look back on it with more love than even games like Mario Odyssey, thus it feels like it was worth the full price tag.

Honestly, I've seen many reviews of this game, including Johnny's, and I think I prefer yours. It feels good to have a laidback opinion without souring my decision on buying the game full price. Even though I kinda regret it since it just went on sale in Black Friday, I still had a great time with it. I probably won't replay this game but I'm just glad Sonic is seen as a good character universally again. Mario has always dominated but Sonic is my hero and I'll still run with him for the rest of my life.

I don't really agree with your take that Trip's story is better than a Knuckles playthrough in Sonic 3. You say Trip gets level design suited towards her abilities, but it's really only a few spots that expect you to do some wall climbing (and a section in the last level that requires you use Super mode). Knuckles in Sonic 3 is no different, where there are a few sections that require his climbing and gliding abilities to get through. The only really unique thing Trip gets is that her stages are filled with more enemies and spikes. That's the devs' take on what hard mode is, just throw in a lot more enemies and put spikes everywhere. And, personally, I don't think that's great design.

Super Knuckles needs to climb walls faster like he does in 3 and Mania.

Your rant about the battle mode has made me reflect on all the times Sega has tried to insert a multiplayer aspect into their Sega games. Sonic 2 has the screen squished 2P mode. Sonic 3 had its Competition mode. Chaotix has its 2P Co-op. Spinball has its awful alternating mode. Drift and R were fairly typical for their genre. Same for Meanbean, but that's just Puyo. It was only the arcade Sega Sonic that had a proper co-op campaign for up-to three people. Also Sonic the Fighters exists.
But it is both the Adventure era, as well as the Advance era that stand out to me. Adventure 2 Battle is loved within its community for its multiplayer, but the same cannot be said for Heroes or Shadow. Then there is the train wreck that is forever 06, especially considering you couldn't even use the amigo characters. Shuffle was fine despite the actual game. Riders was par for the course when it came to their spinoffs, same for Sega's other racing games.
Meanwhile Pocket Adventure just takes the Sonic 2 concept and gives each player their own screen with a ghost of the other player running with you to see whose fastest. Advance continues that, with adding the Chao Hunt multipack minigame that I only ever played since I was the only Sonic fan in my friend group. It takes until Advance 3 for them to FINALLY do a 2 player adventure where you can play through the main game together. Battle is competent in what it does. Also Sonic Rivals exists.
Once we hit the boost era things start to fall off when it comes to multiplayer. Colors had it's odd Sonic Simulator. Sonic 4 Ep2 had its classic co-op return. Meanwhile the Story Book games were trying to be Mario Party again for some reason. But hey, Tennis anyone?
Thankfully the DS side of things has mostly kept up Advance's momentum, but now were back to single races. Then 3DS had basically the same thing for Generations and Lost World (With Sonic Simulator skins for some reason), and Fire & Ice. Also all of the Olympic games exist.
And I don't really want to get started on Mobile. At least Forces Speed Battle was a nice waste of time..... God do I miss Sonic Runners.
But after the Sonic 2 style returning in Mania, it seemed like Sega thought the New Super Mario Bros style was the way to go, then made the most barebone online multiplayer mode ever in Superstar's robot battle.
Dear Sega. Just give us online coop and allow for 2-4 friends to play through the story at their own pace. Give us the options where once someone finishes, they can back track and free roam to help those stuck until everyone has passed the signpost. Then for time attack and battle lobbies, give us something like Mario Kart 8's system for matching with randoms. Match us up in a 8-12 player room, then have us all race to the finish. 30sec-1min wait after the first finish before everyone's booted back to lobby, repeat.
Couch co-op is fun, but damn it do I want my own screen without worrying about someone else's gameplay.

I don’t really hate the bosses either like everyone else does, some of them are horrible, but the majority of them are pretty fun.

I think the game is pretty dang fun. It’s just a very safe sonic title and I think it just rubs everyone the wrong way. While mania was basically just another 2d sonic title I think it brought enough style and flair to the table to make everyone really enjoy their time with the game while there was points in this game where I wished it would’ve been abit more stylized. The style of it is super cute but I think the safe feeling gameplay is what gets me. Especially when you play a character like knuckles who is really slow with everything he does.
Are we not going to mention how half the mini bosses just stop and wait for you to move forward to attack or outright move tou towards it

I refuse to believe anyone likes trip's final boss
It reminds me of how many Costumes Mario has in Odyssey.
Had to skip a couple parts of the video due to being close to finishing Trip's story, but I overall loved Sonic Superstars! Probably more than Mania if I'm being honest. And that's coming from someone who doesn't play a lot of Classic Sonic games.
From the new character, Trip (whose attach & scale walls ability reminds of the Spike Wisp from Sonic Colors). To every level seemingly having a new gimmick, is all pretty satisfying! Tho getting the last couple of Chaos Emeralds were a tad bit annoying, alongside the final boss of the main campaign (which I spent over 3-hours doing solo). Color me impressed nonetheless!
Also Lego skins... considering I missed out on Lego Dimensions back in the day... this was a big selling point for me.
Also, The Final Horizon in Frontiers did just update (conveniently after everyone went through the pain of doing it in the first place) to tone the difficulty & perfect parry windows to be far more forgiving. Haven't tried it myself, but thank goodness!
so i wouldn't mind the waiting in the boss fights if they let you sneak more than one hit, that or simply reduce the HP to 3 like in other platformers with waiting bosses

Yeah I would give Sonic Superstars a 7 out of 10 because:
1. The lack of customization outside of Battle mode is a bit of an oversight: give Knuckles his cowboy hat already 🤠
2. The boss fights were a tedious slog that murdered the pace of the game, and I would rather have hit spam bosses if it means keeping the pace going and after that final boss in Trip's campaign, I hope that we don't see paying for another 90 years🤬
Yeah Superstars was alright, but I'm not saying it's DLC for it I think that I'll stick with the final horizons DLC instead

Man the final sonic frontiers DLC was so good it almost redeemed the game as a whole for me.

The mechanics of the battle aren't in fact I love v he battle mechanic. What is bad is that you gotta wait a long time to be able to have another hit on the boss. Also the final bosses are very long and especially if your far and die that it's a very long time to catch up. Trips final boss took me like an HR and half to beat and it was super draining.

What score would you give this game overall? Me like a 7/10 (focusing on Story Mode & ignoring price). It's not amazing but solid and I enjoy it.
An 6/10 for me. Aside from the awful bosses & it's horrific pacing, the level designs are hit & miss, the camera is way too closer on Sonic & friend, they physics are kinda weird at times, the Emerald's power are pretty underwhelming ( minus some exception ), the multiplayer is not good at all for an Sonic game and compared to most Sonic game, the game is still unpolished.
At the very least, this game is still better than the Sonic 4 epilog and the game can still be fun at times. But compared to other classic or other 2D Sonic games, it's pretty much on the underwhelming side. Especially after Mania.

Yeah the boss fights in Sonic Superstars are more challenging than some of the boss fights in the classic era. Sonic 1 and Sonic CD (minus Metal Sonic) being prime examples.
But they were challenging for an completely wrong reasons.

@blueeyeddrago3540 That's still doesn't change the fact that they shouldn't be over 4 minutes long and even with the Emeralds power, not all of them are gonna down very easily. Only the first 2 parts of the bosses do. But not others with either on backgrounds or auto-scrolling ones.

I wish I liked this more, what mostly ruined it for me was the music. I’m not too embarrassed to say that I’m a sucker for sonic music and it actually ruined my experience, especially since all of these stages are based off of classic stages that DID have good music, so it all felt really underwhelming
I forgot to mention until you did but yeah not all the music is bad, I do love me some sand sanctuary and lagoon city act 2, im assuming that since my first sonic game was mania my expectations were really high

Sonic superstar is amazing! The color is very nice and it’s a Sonic game. I bought it and hope Sega will bring out a new a sega console with many new physical Sega games . As I am gonna leave Xbox,ps5 and nintendo that are going all digital. Will support Sega again if they don’t go digital.

Small correction though, the character customization is not 100% limited to battle mode, because in that cyber level, the 2 bosses you fight in the cyber level ARE the custom robot, so the appearance of those bosses reflect that of your customized robot
Fang's theme being so bad is so depressing, it should've been one of THE best tracks, but this fan favourite character comes back after decades and is given....THAT.
The only reason I don't like the fang song in this game is because it takes over from the awesome speed jungle act sonic song all the time.

The main complaints I have with this silly game is the bosses are really eh, the soundtrack is a big ol' mixed bag, there was a two times the game crashed on the switch, there were a few glitches, Press Factory is kinda crap, Lagoon City Act Amy isn't very fun, and Golden Capital Act 2 can actually smeg off.
But I do have alot of nice things to say about Superstars. The visuals are nice, the physics are on point, Bridge Island, Speed Jungle, Sky Temple, Pinball Carnival, Lagoon City (Acts 1 and 2), Cyber Station (Mostly), Frozen Base, and Egg Fortress are pretty fun, the battle mode is decent (Even if I didn't play it a whole lot), the Special Stages are alright, they still have the level transitions and cutscenes from Sonic 3 which I am a big fan of, Trip is a pretty cool character and OH BOI I CAN PLAY AS ALL THE CHARACTERS YAY-
But I still enjoy the game even if it's very flawed. It's nowhere near as good as Sonic 3 or Mania but it's pretty good.
It's a very 7/10 game.

Everyone gave me hate for saying the physics in the trailer look broken...but they still do....
I would say no. While the physics aren't exactly the same as Genesis & Mania, it still plays well than to the powerful spin attack and upgrades that makes it fun. It even brought back the Elemental Shields, which Superstar didn't bring it back.
Originally didnt want to watch as a diehard classic sonic fan i wanted to go into the levels blind. And maybe its more memorqble actually playing it but the video isnt even over and i already forgot most of the stages with how bland the worlds are
The customizable robot IS used in the main game. It appears in the background before the boss of Sky Temple Zone, and later on is the BOSS of Cyber Station Zone. So it's not purely exclusive to Battle Mode

@Zippy_Zolton it's not just one little cameo since there is emphasis put on Eggman taking the Battle Mode Robot prototype in the Sky Temple end of zone transition cutscene, which is paid off in Cyber Station Zone with the Battle Mode Robot being the boss itself, complete with any and all customization options you put on it.
Let us play as it in the Main Campaign 🤦♂️

That’s enough for me. They finally made an amazing sonic game, potentially the best in the *entire* series, but undoubtedly the best in almost 30 years. The only negative aspect of that game was something I believe the devs had no control over: reused stages.
For them to go from that to this without even trying to make something mania-like with the devs they did use, I could see myself never buying a sonic game again. That’s a big deal for me because sonic 2 was my first ever game, I love sonic, but sega clearly doesn’t. They clearly saw a “new super Mario bros” style sonic as more marketable than a sequel or even spiritual successor to mania.
I mean this IS a spiritual successor to Mania. Plenty of references and music is back from it, and not to mention the ENTIRE PHYSICS ENGINE.
And Superstars on it's own is still better than Sonic 2.

The Battle mode really confuses me. Why didn't they just make actual online multiplayer or online competition mode where 4 players as Sonic, Tails, Amy and Knuckles race through the stages with their own screen? Like it'd literally fix the main issue with the local co-op lmao, are they stupid?
