- Nintendo Switch is home to a ton of indie games and platformers, many of which fit into the "pixel platformer" category. Everyone knows about the heavy hitters like Shovel Knight, but there are plenty more. Let's talk about over 20 pixel platformer gems on the Nintendo Switch!

I'm developing my own pixel platformer, but it definitely going to take like another few years. Thanks for showcasing hidden gems like this because it helps smaller developers get the attention they deserve!

Gravity Circuit is a 10/10 game and I hate that it's flown under the radar. Can't think of any other game that has such inherently fun and satisfying movement
Great game. I've played through it 3 times when it came out. Well worth the money
@@JBird401It's the first game that's really compelled me to do the New Game+. Haven't started yet, but I want to
It didn’t fly under the radar, it has over 850 reviews on steam in less than 2 months. A game of it’s quality would fly under the radar if it has less than 100 reviews within its time. I know plenty of indie games where the devs would consider what Gravity Circuit got a major success.
@@PaperCatGames1 Good point, but it's probably not going to be up for many major awards, unlike other prominent indie releases so far this year like Dave the Diver, Dredge, and (maybe) Pizza Tower. My viewpoint is also probably a bit skewed because I'm more of a Switch player than a PC one, and it didn't receive prominent coverage on Nintendo-centric sites.
@@PikaPhantom_ that’s completely fair. It should really have more attention. It’s just, compared to say, Batboy and it’s 54 reviews on steam, it’s pretty popular.
I’m also someone trying to make an indie game who would be happy if I sell 3,000 copies so my point of view of very different from the common gamer.
Mr. Gimmick is amazing and it's great that it's finally got a rerelease. I use to be obsessed with that and Trip World back in the 2010s!
good 1
I'm really like this AntDudePlays channel. It's just more AntDude and that's what I want. Keep em coming.
Donut Dodo and Annalynn are so good I haven’t stopped playing them since release.
Panic Porcupine and Polyroll are great times! Visually beautiful too!
It's not a nintendo switch game, but one of my absolute favorite platformers is a small pixel art platformer on mobile named Cat Bird. You play as a cat thing with wings like a bird who is trying to get back to their home. The game isn't that complex, being rather short and the only controls being left, right, and jump/glide, but with the fun and varied (and sometimes very challenging) level design, gorgeous pixel art, and amazing music, it's a very memorable game. There's even some extra stuff, like a few skins and a speedrun mode.
Mr. Run and Jump just came out and is a super fun 2D platformer with great movement options
Please do more of these, I love these videos where you just recommend a bunch of games, it's really nice
I believe Oma2ri's name is a reference to omatsuri, a Japanese festival. Probably explains why there are things like taiko drums everywhere.
I don't remember, has AntDude ever talked about Kaze and the Wild Masks? It's completely a tribute to DKC and never tries to pretend otherwise, but it's a well-made tribute. Just get it on sale, because if you're like me, you might 100% it in 2-3 sessions and it rarely gets as difficult as an actual DKC game. Really solid though.
PLEASE keep doing these videos! Love it! 👍
This is definitely an interesting direction for the AntDude Plays channel... and I welcome it.
22:08 Oma2ri is supposed to be pronounced Omatsuri. (Japanese pronunciation of the English number 2 is Tsū) Similarly the second Puyo Puyo installment was called Puyo Puyo 2, where the 2 is "stylized" as Tsū 通. It's the same word play, just the other way around
Love this style of video please do more dude!
Annalynn mention! HECK YEAH!
Spectacular Sparky is a really fun one. A 16 bit inspired Contra-like space platformer, different guns, voice acting. The tutorial stage is done by Cultaholic's Tom Campbell!
Nice a Dynamite Heady mention. Super underrated Genesis game I loved that game growing up
I just played a game called Belle Boomerang which is on sale for $4 on switch right now it's pretty short but gets really hard and at least to my knowledge it doesn't seem very well known which is a shame cause it's really well made would very much reccomend
One game that's on mobile and Switch (I got it on mobile cause it's free there.) is Dadish. I know it was in the intro, but it didn't get a real mention. It's a hilarious game with a great art style and sense of humor. There's also 2 more Dadish games and a game made by the same studio I never played called Super Fowlst where you play as a chicken and there are zombies. I saw gravity circuit when it came out, and never bought (Cause Money.) but I love the art style it has.
I'm honestly really thankful for these kinds of videos you've been making, The one you did on your main channel got me to play and fall in love with Lunistice so I'm always thankful for some fun little indie recommendations
PLEASE more of these! I agree 10000000% about gravity circuit. I watched this vid 2 hours ago, and played gravity rush for two hours straight. SO much fun on the steam deck too. Thanks for these! I got Salaryman as well, looks like a good ol time with the cute briefcase graphics haha
I also made a pixel platformer called "Super Drunken Guy" for Nintendo Switch (which is out now :)). Its a game about...getting drunk lol.
Love that you keep remembering bomberman hero/64 music exists
I have a couple of these but i now have a new list of games to add. Thank you again!
I'm surprised there's no whipsey on this list, that deserves a mention by what it looks like alone, if you know you know
I know you mentioned that one of the games was made by the same people who made the wonder boy games and that reminded me that Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon's Trap got a remake from Lizardcube which I always think should get more attention. It's one of my favourite retro games (I had the original on the sega master system as a kid) and the remake is incredibly well done.
Wonder Boy is a rip-off of adventure island
Actually Wonder Boy came first, and Adventure Island was based on it
Please make more of these. I will watch all of them.
Toodee and Topdee needs a strong mention.
Wow 2 new videos at once! Thanks!
I already had a bunch of these in my wishlist and I already own a few but you got me interested with the ones I didn't know about.
Annalyn was the first game I beat this year and it's still one of the biggest surprises. It was something I bought on a whim for the winter sale on steam and I had an absolute BLAST with it. Honestly probably one of my favorite games on steam ever. Super cute charming and addicting. And the dev is also a complete sweetheart too. Highly recommend it. Want to get the switch version so I can play as Anton lol
I have now wishlisted 5 of these games on Switch, more of this please
Now this content of video game reviews I do appreciate it. These days we just watch you tubers playing the trending game of that moment. This helps small developers get a few more games sold. So thank you for that antdude. At least I can rely on you when I want a break from people play g baulders gate 3
Stay awesome and thank you again for this.
I love these thoughtful, passionate lists of games I've mostly never even heard of. Great gaming content, I'm two vids in and already subscribed
YES. crank out a couple more of these please.
Annalynn is an absolute banger of a game. I discovered it on Steam back in 2021 and I'm so happy that it's finally receiving more attention
Nice recomendations Bro, please do another one
Gimmick mentioned
Mr Gimmick looks like a mashup of Kirby and Mega Man
awesome stuff !!
Donut Dodo gives e big Burger Time vibes and that makes it SOMETHING I NEED!!!
Please make more of these!!!
Gimmick! is really good, but I had no idea they were also porting Trip World too. Can't wait to play that when it comes out
Antdude I’m so glad you brought up gravity circuit! When we getting a review of the classic and x series?!
Gonna be honest, whenever I have 4 cents I just go ahead and buy a 2d platformer on the eShop, I have bought like, 5 and all of them were relatively cheap
Oh my god I needed this video soooooo badly
Annalynn so good, you can give the snakes hats.
I'd love to watch another video like this
I really want to see more of these, I want to find more platformers to try out
YOOO! He mention polyroll!!! Truly a underatted gem
Thank you for bringing Grapple Dog to my attention a while back.
Never enough of classic 2D platforming. Either with a gimmick or not, they are fun!
Thanks for your video, bought moonleap and really enjoyed the game 😊
Clockwork Aquario looks amazing!
Loved the video and loved the way it's just about games that are fun to play... period.
I would really recommend checking out Antonball Deluxe. It's the first game in the Anton series (Antonball and Antonblast). It's a mix of break out and platforming with a little bit of Wario Land mixed to it. Very fun game and it even has 3 different game modes.
Yes! I love this content!
Nice choices my dude
OMA2RI = "Mario 2." Clever. Some interesting games you mentioned, I just bought several and added many more to my wishlist. My wishlist is getting full--I literally *have* to buy some games to add more. I would definitely be interested in some more platformer suggestion videos.
Thanks for the kind words about Shi!
Elechead is awesome!
And let's remember it was made by one guy...as his first game...while still in school for game dev
You gotta do th8s with 3d games with a n64/ps2 type look
Pompom reminds me a game i had on dsi ware i think. Some hamster game. Pretty fun but this game looks way better since it doesnt seem like it plays like shovelware. 12:00
If you played Horace, I would like to hear what you thought about it. I personally thought it was one of the best platformers I've ever played!
Thank you for this! More 2d platformers please!
If you're looking for Pixel Game Maker Series suggestions, then I have three Metroidvanias for you if you're interested. They are The Witch & the 66 Mushrooms, Pentacore, and Angel's Gear. Granted, I have not yet played a single one of these, but they're all fairly well received on Steam, so you can probably imagine they're pretty high quality. I know I'm looking forward to getting them myself!
A couple small notes: Pentacore has a speedrun mode as well as a secret ending you can get (exactly how you get it is a mystery to me, of course). Angel's Gear is a bit on the shorter side and has, according to the developer Scumhead, "unconventional movement that rewards precise aiming and mastery over strategy, patience, and quick thinking."
Thank you antdude for making me go into debt with all these great games
So many great games to play
If the switch port of Sonic Superstars taught me anything, it’s that maybe devs should stick to pixel art for 2D sidescrollers until we figure out frame rate for a genre we should have mastered development for by now
Has Curse Cracker been covered yet? That's a really fun cute platformer. I believe it out on switch now or coming soon to switch. Prodigal by the same devs is a really fun GBC Zelda inspired game which is really good too.
...more pixel platformer vids please. Thanks for the content.
Hey, does anyone know the name of the first game when the vid starts, red hair ninja jumping around slashing stuff? @AntDude Plays
I believe It’s called Flynn: Son of Crimson! :D
Belle Boomerang is amazing!
Does anyone know what song is in the background? I know I’ve heard it before.
that PomPom game really reminds me of the gigaleak sleepwalker prototype
Polyroll and Panic Porcupine look so Amiga
Electronic Super Joy not being in this video is a crime
You should try Super Mombo Quest its great
Great stuff on here, definitely a few I want to check out now. Surprised Aggelos wasn’t on here, what a hell of a cheap game.
What is the game in the very beginning intro of this video? Guy with red hair and a sword.
Batboy kinda reminds me of a classic indie game called Bonesaw.
Is the pixel maker mv thing an acrual game making engine instead of a series of gsmes? Ala rpg maker mv
Welcome to the "How many games am I going to buy this time" video!
The very first game (2scnds in to the video) looks awesome, could anybody tell me which one that is?.. :)
Antman vid POGGERS
22:18 So the title is a pun. It's pronounced "Omatsuri" in Japanese, which means "festival". "2" is said "tsu"/"tsuu" with a Japanese accent. Most likely it's a reference to Mario 1 but since it's 2, well, there you go!
Does anyone know what the game is at 0:30? :O The one that looks like a gameboy game and you play as a slime(?) I think… ^_^
What's the first game in video please?
Also sonic the story had brown sonic like panic porcupine just thought thats cool
First.
And new content especially about pixel based games is just as the best.
Trip world is a fantastic game
The ones I have:
Polyroll
Yeah, that's about it.
Gravity Circuit hard copy mere weeks.
You should wait to make the next video til my game is on switch! 😂
Cool games.
The Dadish series of games (1, 2, 3, and Daily Dadish) are cute and fun platformers where you do puzzles, avoid enemies, and save your children. I played them on mobile with ads tho.
Panic porcupine looking like Sonic before he turned blue anyone remember that from the comics
Timestamps?
What’s the name of the game at the beginning 0:01
Flynn: son of crimson
