  • Soham, Cambridgeshire, England. A sleepy little town in the country with a tight-knit community. But those community bonds would be stretched to the limit when in August, 2002, two ten-year-old-girls would go missing somewhere in the area.

I have a brother-in-law who was convicted of statutory rape of a 14 year old girl. His wife had invited young neighbor girls over to visit and had pictures of them in their living room . It disgusted me. Consequently, I absolutely refused to let our girls ever go over there with us or without us. My darling husband said he would never, ever allow his brother near our girls. Well t he family protected the pedophile and we were outcasts. We did the right thing. We protected our children. My husband's sister did not. Her daughter, our only niece, was groomed and preyed upon by the pedophile and molested. Once again, my husband's family closed ranks and protected the criminal. This sad story is in a lot of families. That's why so many children are still abused and robbed of their innocence. Cowardly families sheltering pedophiles. Despicable. Protect your children, expose these animals. Our children are depending on it. Nurse Carolyn

Something similar in my step mother's family. Her daughter said her father molested her when she was young (there had been accusations by some neighbors as well) I believed my step sister . It sadly is a trend for women involved in these kinds of things to either go free entirely or be punished with extremely low sentencing.
I have watched a lot of reports on horrible crimes like these. and pretty much every time a woman is involved, the court punishes the man as the main perpetrator and either let the woman go free or punish her with 1-2 years in prison. • @leahjones9626
      @leahjones9626 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Exactly!
Typically the more the abuse goes on, the more you want to GET OUT because of your fear and glaring reality of the danger.
For Maxine to decide to play along… during the act… and then also play along while the police WOULD HAVE HELPED Maxine - just put the nail in the coffin for her in my opinion.
Also she must have known a lot about his disgusting and evil ways well before this evil day came to be.
It seems Maxine never even reached out for help for herself - (if she ever first was abused by him)
It seems highly ODD that an abused person just simply joins in, if that was the case.
It seems like she made a conscious choice to condone the behavior - probably because she “loved and accepted” him.
I’m not saying he wasn’t abusive towards Maxine. I believe he was, as there’s no way he was not manipulative or psychologically abusive, dominating, threatening.
You don’t become a killer like this overnight, and become suddenly enlightened in evil calculations, calmly carrying them out in such a public setting.
This guy was this way for a long time, and Maxine knew it. Maxine was okay with this… enough to cover him in his “worst” of times, she was devoted.
She has covered for him many other times before… and he trusted her enough for Maxine to help.
They were both truly fucked up. This time they just both got caught.

For once, the UK finally gave a sentence to a murderer that I can say sounds pretty fair. Usually I think they’re relatively light, but I think this one is fairly appropriate. Hers, however, was ridiculously light. Here in the US, she would have been just as guilty and received almost as harsh a sentence, which I think she should have. These were her students, they adored her. And she hood what happened all that time. That’s just sick.

Especially since 90% of child sexual assaults (all sexual assaults in fact) are perpetrated by people the victim knows, not a stranger
We have an image of a stranger jumping out of a dark alley and attacking, but in reality it's almost always a person known by the victim, family, friends, teachers, peers, colleagues etc
I assume this wrong stereotype is partly because people don't want to think about the reality of someone you know or family even being predators

First, Huntley had said his wife wasn’t home and informed the girls she did not get a job at their school. That was the last time they were seen, right? But then the wife showed a letter from one of the girls saying sorry you didn’t get the job. So how did they write that if Huntley had just told them about it right before they went missing? That’s a pretty big red flag.
