Any character can be an asshole, but it takes good writing to make them funny and relatable. If a character is an asshole just for the sake of being an asshole, that makes them pretty much impossible to relate to and care for. Every asshole character needs something else to them, maybe some tragic backstory that explains why they are the way they are or maybe they just choose to be an asshole because they're afraid of getting attached to people. They clearly didn't do a good job of making an asshole character here, but I guess we can use a bad example like this to make us appreciate the lovable assholes we do have.
asshole characters don't have to be character we can sympathize with. but if karma doesn't hit them watching asshole characters be an asshole can become very annoying.

That's not really a reason to like him but by the end of the series he begins to accept his new surroundings and by then you do begin to relate to him.

They just crashed and burned in that the FOX executives killed them pretty quickly. Shows like Mission Hill were really good but unfortunately they weren't given a chance.
At least high school USA was original compared to all the other fox shows that feature a family with a dad who get's into all kinds of shenanigans. I like how in Bobs Burgers Bob is probably the only dad on fox who works as the straight man.

Well glad you brought you the thought of airing what episodes where made then chalking up as a loss in their taxes. It makes a lot of sense, sadly too much. I am sure there were a lot of publicists involved in getting this greenlit to start with. Fox maybe thinking it might work, as Jona Hill doesn't have the worse track record. Then someone saw the first episode either as a rough cut or finished and just knew to toss it in the loss category before it even aired. Knowing they would at least have to give it a few episodes to please those involved and pretend it might make it. Sad that this must sit in the same category as "Sym-Bionic Titan" as that show could have made it if they gave it another season. However now since it seems as it was written off as a loss it can never see the light of day. I wonder if the IP can still be sold to someone to make something out of it. Cause, I really did like "Sym-Bionic Titan".

Well glad you brought you the thought of airing what episodes where made then chalking up as a loss in their taxes. It makes a lot of sense, sadly too much. I am sure there were a lot of publicists involved in getting this greenlit to start with. Fox maybe thinking it might work, as Jona Hill doesn't have the worse track record. Then someone saw the first episode either as a rough cut or finished and just knew to toss it in the loss category before it even aired. Knowing they would at least have to give it a few episodes to please those involved and pretend it might make it.
Sad that this must sit in the same category as "Sym-Bionic Titan" as that show could have made it if they gave it another season. However now since it seems as it was written off as a loss it can never see the light of day. I wonder if the IP can still be sold to someone to make something out of it. Cause, I really did like "Sym-Bionic Titan".

I never thought I'd ever want to punch an animated child so badly. This show would be a lot better if Allen Gregory got bitch-slapped by karma more often. Maybe then the show would have been more successful or at least looked back on more fondly.
