Why couldn’t he just remove the page out of the visa book or take a page out of another visa or just ask his embassy to give him another visa book? Why is such a problem?
I like your channel but why does every video have to be so long. It's almost like some youtubers try to make the video as long as possible. It could be a 30 min video.

How to draw out a 5-minute story to nearly an hour. This is what it’s like to listen to someone’s endless, rambling stream of consciousness. Torture. I finally gave up at around 30 minutes. 😬
This guy is a total muppet. Who gives their passport to a guy for months and months without asking for it back? Should of just flown home and got another visa . You can't stay long term in Thailand on a tourist visa anymore. They made that clear before Covid.
To answer a question Paul asked, the reason they cap the overstay fine to 20k is to give the offender a chance to leave the country. Example: At the rate of 500bt per day, a 3-year overstay would cost half a million baht and there would be thousands of foreigners stuck in jail because they can't pay the fine. Happy to see that Paul avoided doing time in jail.
Got married to my thai wife paid 9k all i had to do was me and my wife go to office in bangkok sgin some papers and job done easy as that Stage 2 paid 55k to a visa agent in Pattaya...they opened a bank account for me then they put 800k in bank account (for 5 minutes then took it back out) then immigration come to my condo took some pictures with me then 1 month later got my 1 year visa ..everything went easy like that I must be lucky.....I've been here 8 years now.....the bank the immigration there all in it......only advice I can say is get Yourself a great thai wife and find Yourself a great VISA agent and you can't go wrong in Thailand.......last time i went to a immigration was 5 years ago...I even pay 500thb to the visa angets for my 90 day report and get my passport back a few days later
I'm so possessive of my passport that I can't fathom leaving it with someone who's not an official immigration employee or even visa agency. I had to give my passport for a Cambodian visa extension and I was without my passport for more than a week. I had the agency make a photocopy but it's not the same thing especially in countries like Cambodia and Thailand where there's an obligation to carry your ID on you at all times. Once I had serious trouble getting my card back from a cash machine because I didn't have the passport with me. On top of that I am wary of immigration staff not taking good care of passports. So the fact this guy left his passport with a "friend" and for so long terrifies me 😱
In summary he was strung along by Jon who was strung along by his Thai contacts. I tend to think Jon didn't give him back the 50k, but I understand him saying that he got it back.
I’m happy mate. New job, new people and new adventures. Who’s to say I wont be back in Thailand in a few years working remotely. Although I was very hungover when I did this interview😂😂
His is a story that can happen to anyone. Back in 1993, a very connected man volunteered to help me with my visa, as he had the right connections. However, he didn't take care of it right away. And as I would ask him about it, he would often tell me to"calm down," or "Chai yen yen." After a few months, he returned my Passport back to me to let me know that I had overstayed and needed to take care of that; and of course, I had overstayed, because of his "being calm," or "Chai yen," about the situation. Due to helping a US Marine in a gang fight, a year prior to that, I called him up; and he pulled some strings for me; so I was able to get that situation resolved without having to pay a big fine or be blacklisted. The connected man had the connections and was wanting to sincerely help me; but sometimes, being "Chai yen yen" can cause a lot of problems.
It cannot happen to anyone. The people it can happen to don’t wanna take an honest look at themselves. If you just admitted your weakness you’d be better protected.
If any visa agent that has your passport for more than 1 month without a genuine update, you are in a spot of bother. A Non O or Non ED usually takes a month, 90% of the time a lot less than a month.
I can tell this is going to be one of your best interviews, so far. The reason I know is that you preface this video with a little chuckle in the intro. I won't have time to watch this video today, but soon.
The biggest issue when covid hit was whether you were going to get stuck in a particular province or not because the fear was they were going to shutdown inter-provincial travel.
I was in Bangkok in March 2020 on a tourist visa. When COVID struck, we used to check local newspapers to news on visa situation - and there was clarity that tourist visas were extended "until further notice"- and so the next task was to stay abreast with latest developments. Very quickly a facebook group was formed with people in the same situation and people would share the latest news etc. I eventually left at the end of July 2020. It is astounding that in this day and age of information one would give away their passport to a landlord, knowing everything that you know goes on in Thailand.
He's a lovely young man but extremely naive and trusting. He is a happy go lucky bloke and I admire that. I do worry about his future. If YT goes ass up there will be so many people looking for a job...I do think YT will start tightening the screws on income in the near future as more and more people become dependent on it. heya. thats an unfortunately story. i stayed in thailand for 2.5 years back in 2011. when i was getting an extension very early in the my stay, i was having a smoke outside across the street in jomtien immigration office. a thai immigration officer started talking with me, also having his smoke break. he managed to stamp me up at the office, all official etc every 3 months for approx 2 years with what was a VIP stamp or something back then. when i brought a blue label johhny walker to the office one time as i thank you gesture he got quite worked up about it not being appropriate! he never asked for anything. it was odd. he always asked me to wait no matter when my ticket was called until i could go to HIS desk. all kosher. 2.5 years later i left but didnt get the last 3 months stamped in by him as i got lazy.....had 20k in baht when i was going to airport, no fuss, paid when i walked thru checking in as i was sked to have a chat with some uniformed crew. all smiles, no aggro. no ban. been flying in and out of thailand as usual 3 times a year ever since. im sure things have changed since then but thats my story.

Paul I had a big session on the Guinness the night before this interview. You know what the build up to Christmas is like. I will interview the characters here. I do hope the audience on this channel will be interested though
I have just read a book called " Welcome to Hell "...,it's a about an Irishman called Colin Martin who ended up serving time in the notorious Bangkok Hilton. I don't know if you have read it....🔔
In fact, this is just one more good example, among many, why I keep tuning in here to this channel. I really appreciate these schtories, no matter how much they twist and turn. I am also a big fan of Russian novels. It does not matter too much about the guests...because....I just like to watch Pete's polite and subtle reactions. In this case: Pete was, like, totally expressionless during the entirety of it, including the guest's frequent slurps from his straw. Pete: "Don't worry, we believe you! Just continue, and get on with it!" What was this guy drinking, anyway? Priceless. I thoroughly enjoy this channel. One never knows what might be next. ((Good Luck to Pete with his new job, as well! Pete has nothing to worry about on the job front, for sure!))
The account being told in this video is so rambling that I may be required to view the video several times just to fully appreciate the intricacies of it.
This is how I tell stories and how i got a job at G. I wrote the worst story on the application exercise and ithought it was awesome, but they told me I got the job because I was not able to articulate my thoughts clearly, and they wanted their AI to be able to communicate with anyone. I have no idea how to improve, my thoughts are disjointed. When I watch Paul tell a story I'm just amazed. I'll probably buy his books.
I disagree with the comments calling this interview a waste of time. The rambling was hard to get through but the story was interesting. Paul's an interesting character and for sure has made questionable decisions, but it takes all sorts of people and as an expat who has returned home (but still misses Thailand every day), it's nice to hear about where other expats have taken their lives after leaving the land of smiles. Keep the interviews coming Pete and good luck with your new job.
I knew people who got time in Thailand for trying to change the stamp, its all on computer anyway you can't blag it and overstay is expensive in Thailand
I would say it was always about the RENT because as covid hit no flights so room would be vacant so it would be in the landlords interest to keep him rolling
Some harsh comments here. I actually enjoyed hearing Paul's story and I think the level of detail was required, as it gives insight as to how easy it is to fall into such situations. You'd be surprised at just how many foreign nationals are / have been involved in illegal visa activity without really understanding they are breaking the law. Not so many years ago it was very common for people to pay a fee to a visa agent instead of doing a visa run. The visa agent would take the passport and have it stamped through a dodgy official and sent back, as if you had left and re-entered the country. The agent never tells you it's illegal, only "No problem, I can do for you!" The golden rule is that you don't actually need a visa agent for anything in Thailand. All processes can be done by yourself.
Peter, An excellent guest. This is an example to all people about how to not lead a life. This whole thing is about a person who just doesn't understand. I wish this guy luck; hopefully, he can understand his weaknesses. All good 👍.
Great interview Peter and Paul, I remember Paul from the Live Stream with Dave...that was an interesting stream..haha. They say there are three types of mindsets that people in this world have, 1) people who live in the past 2) people who live in the present & 3) people who live in future. Paul is definitely living in the present and for sure will have some great stories when he gets old. Personally I'm more living in the future (creating a nest egg ) so in 7-8 years time i can switch to the living in the present mindset with my F you money ;) . I did a year in thailand back in 2008 and I fully "living in the present", came home broke with a lot of lifelong memories, it was a great life lesson and not one that I regret. Like the old saying goes "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail". I hope that new job is going well Pete and that dublin commute is not too bad, I dont miss it ;)
Sounds like John was on commission and the people who were doing the visa were probably obtaining it illegally and their immigration official wasn't able to to it at that time and everyone was saying its coming it's coming because nobody wanted to lose their commission...the fact he got the passport back quite easily probably meant it was sitting in a drawer
I've been in his situation in Thailand, however it wasn't overstay. Corruption, bail, confiscated passport, zero help from the UK embassy and a thoroughly broken legal system. Yes, you are alone.
super well said people in Colombia are warm and nice at another level on the other hand Thailand is the land of "fake ass" smiles mind you, i live in Thailand for 4 years now just enjoy the fake smiles and don't dig deep, you won't find anything pretty
I beleive you. Totally happens. Wow. I must have dealt with the same agents family. Same storys. Same lies. I heard it. I seen it. I lived it. Totally real.
Interesting vid. Going from place to place and requesting visas etc its quite common to hand over your passport for the duration of a stay somewhere in Thailand or that they send to get passport stamped, it was in 2004 anyway (this is before camera phones etc) and then you collect it when you're leaving, that being said, this guy is a liability and shouldn't travel, doesn't seem to have his shit together and really struggles to keep focus, something bad could happen to him.
Paul's getting a lot of negative feedback and I wonder if it's envy over his confidence and how his happy-go-lucky attitude got his money and passport back. Pete, a few times it crossed my mind during the video that you didn't want to hear Paul's story....
I'm going to say this at the start of my next video :26 "How is it going, I've got a big one for you today, it's quite a long one" thanks for the laugh Pete.
The mistake was trying to get a Non O education visa, I assume, without having to show for the education. Once you go down that path, you are a participant in breaking the law.
This guy is sketchiest as they come. So sketchy, a good re-write for the video is after the first few minutes to start a 45 second FADE TO: only a dotted line outline of his form against a grey background...and him waving his arms, taking swigs of his drink, and rambling on incoherently. Then we CUT TO: a close up of Pete twiddling his thumbs. (This seems to go on excruciatingly long but is really a mere 30 seconds). Then, we CUT TO: random stock videos of illegal aliens running across rivers, crossing through jungle, in near complete darkness. These can be easily accessed from American news media, where they abound. Then we hear Pete's 50% Guinness-induced hangover voice saying he apologizes for his lack of foresight but he has forgotten to charge the batteries on his camera, his computer, his phone and neglected to pay his wifi bill, so unfortunately this video will be a short one. But in the odd world in which we live, this oversight serves to save us listeners about 90% of the remainder of the video. And we all live a little more happily.
Or something else... Guy tells good story and that's the reason I like Pete..he has done the business in Thailand and asks the questions that other farang don't ask
All this suspenseful buildup, and then by the 32-minute mark, we hear that he gets his passport back, and he gets his money back, and his only inconvenience is not being able to check his bags through all the way, but has to change flights in Copenhagen? At least, we might have heard more about this Indian charlatan and Bollywood. Maybe we will hear more in the second half of this video?
Who do I sue to get my 20 minutes back? I skipped through the other 40. Thailand doesn’t allow people to live in Thailand on tourist visas…. This all was changed years ago

Poor chap has lost in his events and bravo to Pete trying so hard to get him to the main points!! Thanks for both of you indeed 😄😅
i over stayed in the US by 26 years - eventually i decided to go home and just booked a ticket and left
I would say it was always about the RENT because as covid hit no flights so room would be vacant so it would be in the landlords interest to keep him rolling
Wee bit long interview! Lesson to be learned I supposed, for some! Columbia 🤔 ! Thank you Pete 🙏
I thought Paul Morrissey might have been on gear during this interview in the way he spoke and moved.
Peter,
An excellent guest.
I hope that new job is going well Pete and that dublin commute is not too bad, I dont miss it ;)
this is why i never use middlemen for absolutely anything. Not even supermarkets.
I was banged up in the IDC around the time Pauls talking ,its no joke in there hell hole, still love Thailand
It's rough
@@effewe2 I'm still suffering now Ptsd,
Care to share that story? my email is thairishtimes@gmail.com
If I was Paul Morrisey, I would be transferring 50,000 baht to John because he lost out trying to do Paul a favour.
A lot of these commenters criticising Paul have probably never left their hometown …
What a lovely Guy Paul is I've no doubt he will land on his feet.
Definitely a cautionary tale! Glad it was only a small fine in the end. Best of luck in warm and vibrant South America, Paul.
Great story, yea I would never trust anyone to take my passport especially when you are in a foreign country.
Brains of a goldfish, ffs the fella is now in Colombia, watch this space "someone asked me to carry their bag" Plum
He dragged on and on like a Dogs A$$
👩🏭👀what size is that laptop on your desk bro
Only available in Ireland 😂
I've been in his situation in Thailand, however it wasn't overstay. Corruption, bail, confiscated passport, zero help from the UK embassy and a thoroughly broken legal system.
Yes, you are alone.
super well said
people in Colombia are warm and nice at another level
on the other hand
Thailand is the land of "fake ass" smiles
mind you, i live in Thailand for 4 years now
just enjoy the fake smiles and don't dig deep, you won't find anything pretty
Smiling Assassin's as my UK mate used to name them.🤣🤣🤣🤣
Turn it up Paul...
Great to hear you got a new job.stable income
Thanks🙏🙏
You are welcomed
Total incompetence..man needs to wake up..he was very lucky getting back the money..
THIS GUY KNOWS HOW TO PROLONG A STORY, TERRIBLE STORY TELLER, WITHOUT THE HOST IT WOULD NEVER END
CAPITALS TO MAKE YOUR POINT EH STEVEN 😢
I’ve always found Thai Immigration helpful when I renew my visa. Always go in a month before renewal.
Paul's getting a lot of negative feedback and I wonder if it's envy over his confidence and how his happy-go-lucky attitude got his money and passport back. Pete, a few times it crossed my mind during the video that you didn't want to hear Paul's story....
Couldn't agree more Fintan. Pete was overly judgemental in this one.
@brianpena2239 no, he wasn't. Not in the slightest.
There been a lot of very good interviews Pete, but this one was a waste of time!
Have to agree. Prob the the worst ever
Daem .. crazy story 😮 and love the jersey 😊
Is it me or does he have a dutch accent? Also, he is a bit long winded with his story.
A bit ?! 🤣🤣
It's rambling man that rambled himself into a mess. One of your poorer choices for an interview.
This guy is his own worst enemy…….
I like your creative approach 😂😂
Scraping the barrel on this one...
The Jewrish Times would say "you got shlemazeled".
Pete's face during this entire video says regret.
The guy who took your passport was a full narcissist
Or something else... Guy tells good story and that's the reason I like Pete..he has done the business in Thailand and asks the questions that other farang don't ask
Barry the boss was very much the same as this. Banned
You go your embassy and say your passport was lost or stolen. Never give your passport to an unofficial person.
Go to
All this suspenseful buildup, and then by the 32-minute mark, we hear that he gets his passport back, and he gets his money back, and his only inconvenience is not being able to check his bags through all the way, but has to change flights in Copenhagen? At least, we might have heard more about this Indian charlatan and Bollywood. Maybe we will hear more in the second half of this video?
Sorry isn't he now banned from Thailand for 3 years?
Adventurous guy !! Exciting life !!
There is many visa agents in Pattaya why trust John for so long
Who do I sue to get my 20 minutes back? I skipped through the other 40.
Thailand doesn’t allow people to live in Thailand on tourist visas…. This all was changed years ago
