"I Will Die In Thailand," Says American Steve Rosse

- Steve Rosse returns! I interviewed Steve 6 months ago when Steve planned to retire in Thailand. In that interview Steve spoke about a promise he made to himself that one day he would make it back to Thailand to see out the last years of his life on a quiet beach. Steve also discussed his financial situation and how he plans to live on a meagre pension of 1500 USD per month. The comment section exploded after that interview. The naysayers said moving to Thailand was another of a long list of bad decisions Steve has made in his life. Well Steve did move to Thailand and in this interview he talks about his life in Turtle Beach, the new content on his TH-cam channel and of course he addresses the naysayers. #movingtothailand #lifeinthailand #thairishtimes

Hey both of you can we talk or do an interview and talk about life? I'm fairly easy to contact I think? Pete we talked once but obviously you are younger and working on things where me and wife are at currently different stages and locations
Great interview
Great to know that a year after this interview, this legend is still alive and going strong.
This guy is a proper geezer. Wishing him the best of luck and many great years in 🇹🇭
Thanks, Craig.
Beyond Steve’s fascinating stories and rare storytelling talent, there is something else on which I can’t exactly put my finger. It is as if he had discovered the ultimate futility of seriousness, and the fleeting nature of everything about us all and about the lives we lead. I think I can also glimpse some deep sadness behind the nonchalance. A talented man with the fascinating experiences that only come with an unscripted life. Wishing him a long, healthy and happy life.
Thank you very, very much for your kind words. They are much appreciated. I wish the same long life, health and happiness for you and your family.
Well said 👍
A lion would never be disrespectful at a golf course but a Tiger Wood

I couldn’t have said it better🎼🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
1500 USD isn't a bad pension for Thailand! Mine is similar although I own a condo and have ample savings. At this point, I struggle to find ways to spend more money! Also consider retiring in the U.S. on 1500 is a horror show if you don't own your home free and clear. Many such people are homeless or living in cars. Moving to Thailand or other lower cost countries makes perfect sense. Of course the medical situation is an issue here but if you're homeless you're basically almost dead anyway. I enjoy Steve's internet offerings very much.
bad? 1500 for Thailand is really really good
You're a mensch, Steve; at 65 you have more energy and charisma than many 20-somethings I know here in the States. May you live out long and happy years on your Turtle Beach, widowmakers be damned! God bless.
I'm Thai and I love hearing stories of foreigners who have chosen to spend their retirement years in Asian countries including my beloved Thailand .Mr. Steve is a foreigner who has found himself. And hope you enjoy living a simple life in Thai Mueang, Phang Nga Province, southern Thailand, peacefully.
Khap khun mahk, khrap!
Hearing a Thai say this is amazing and being a 37 year old man who wants to move to Thailand is rewarding to hear we are welcome
I like to stay in phang nga province , beautiful Beach, 7 national parks lots of waterfall, fish , fruits
Thailand = best country in asia
Steve knows what he wants. Steve is wise. Be like Steve.
Steve lived with his mother for a decade of his adult life. Steve never had career success. Steve has anger issues. Steve is estranged from his daughter. Steve stalked a woman he knew for 3 months for 30 years. Steve is a bit like Norman Bates. Do not be like Steve.o
Your heart of stone is showing.@@gauloise6442
The thing I admire about Steve is he marches to the beat of his own drum. Maybe he has lost the beat from time to time or perhaps, on occasion, even lost the drum. But, today, in his sixties he is back strongly forging his own path with his drum sounding out its own mighty rhythm. Bravo! Rompa Pom Pom!
Thanks. I appreciate that.
Yeah, married a woman he did not love, obsessed with a schoolgirl bargirl still, one of his kids will have nothing to do with him, and not enough in the bank for a legal extension or health insurance. Not a lot to amire.
@@petersutherland1985 I never asked anybody to admire me. And after watching, what, half a Zoom video? You've decided you don't like me. Fair enough. So what's your life like, Peter? All successes? No failures? No mistakes? Do you admit your mistakes and take responsibility for them, as I do? Or do you push them way down and pretend they never happened? Do you try to hide your weaknesses from others or do you try to get by as best you can, secure in the knowledge that absolutely every human being who has ever lived has done the same thing? C'mon, Peter. Tell us all about it. Then strangers can talk about you like they know you.
''I dont want to live in New Mexico , i dont want to die in New Mexico'' - this guy is great
Another great interview Pete. You ask all the right questions.
Steve is my favourite guest of yours. I subscribed to his channel after your first interview.
I love Steve's frankness and brutal honesty. I hope he's with us for many years to come.
Thank you, GP!
Glad you are still doing these interviews, it's difficult to get good quality interviews on other Thai channels -Thanks for your efforts. I'm a Brit intending/hoping to retire to Thailand soon, so find these discussions useful.
Although Steve is a different character to myself he's definitely entertaining, I'll give Steve's channel a look 👍
One rule for a really happy Thai life.
1. Buy nothing,rent everything
@@jefflinton Agreed, this also gives the flexibility/ease to move around
You're an incredible interviewer !!!!!! So engrossing and engaging wow, all the best success always to you and your fam !!! Hi fellow fans!!! Xox
Hey Steve. Your a straight forward Guy.
Wishing you all the best for the future and Long Life.
I've been through the same heart problem and I should have been dead ,that was in 2008.
Been to Thailand a lot of times and I think that what kept me going g and new lease of life.
Now I'm living in Mauritius 🇲🇺 .
The good news is Steve is still going strong 😀👍
Great interview Pete. Gotta love straight talking Americans like Steve. No holding back and no fake facade. The truth is refreshing!
Steve's speech pattern and tone of voice really reminds me of those analyst on Wallstreet and CNBC. I thoroughly enjoyed this interview and the story about TW is epic man ! wishing Steve much peace of mind, positivity and more fulfilling years ahead - ✌fr Malaysia
Steve is a great talker and interesting guy. Got a good story! Hard to believe Steve is afraid of anything. Really enjoyed the interview Pete, too bad you did not get a chance to say much. I always look forward to your interviews.
He seem very afraid of many things in life to me.
It is living lonely behind a wall of his own making. It's pretty obvious to see.
Hardly the signs of a man who is not sacred.
@@coffeejazzvibes2194 Exactly!
I initially thought he was going to be obnoxious because he is not so quiet but I really really enjoyed his oratory. Great guy.
Very interesting story by Steve - really enjoyed it. I for one could not leave my mother until she passed away.
Steve, we are so different yet not so as our mind sets are parallel. I am 68, have spent much time in the Kingdom and have chosen to live out my time there…now it is getting back.
Tough day at work Pete, congrats on going the distance, Lol. Seriously, respect that he has the guts to be himself. In similar ways, Ive had some rough years being direct.
Well done Steve - EPIC and INSPIRATIONAL - follow your heart, be present in the moment and live your dream - TIM, PERTH . AUSTRALIA
Thanks, Tim.
Fascinating guest and a terrific story teller.
Thanks!
I love this kind of interviews done in this channel. Thanks.
Great to see you are still doing your interviews, that guy can talk!
But you were excellent as usual, keep it up Pete
Knackered just listening to him! Breath!!
Another great guest, very interesting story teller and honest about everything. Great interview!
Steve is right, it is no problem to live for 50.000THB per month in Thailand, my wife and I have a monthly budget of 43.000THB including everything, food, the monthly payment on our own condo, various insurance, electricity, water, pocket money and so on... absolutely everything is included, and we live in the heart of Phuket and have done so for the last 12 years, and before when we lived in Buriram province in Northeast Thailand, our budget was 28,000 Per month, and these budgets are for 2 people and we certainly don't lack anything, so all the best wishes for your new life Steve🙏👍
If a person lives humbly With No hookers or street girls ....you can live ok anywhere in the world!
Oh wow Steve knows how to tell the stories! He’s very interesting and unique! Thanks for sharing your stories Steve! Bravo to Pete too.
Great interview……really like this guy.
Can relate to him on many levels……one being marring the wrong woman and never getting over the damage.
Forthright speaking also gets me in trouble here.
Buddhist Outlook…….of which many do not understand
Not on board with the drugs …..but definitely art/risks an projects.
Steve is more than a breath of fresh air.
To many just prop the bar up over here as a way of life.
Love your honesty Sir ❤️ it is refreshing. I wish you many many years of happiness
I am glad Steve is happy, busy and content…. Some others and myself included are never content.
Really enjoyed listening to that interview Pete and Steve is quite the character.
I hope he has many happy years living in Thailand
I like this guy's honesty.
Thoroughly enjoyed this interview with Steve.A very honest and true to life bloke.
Thanks, D!
❤❤❤..love to watch this. Hope to meet Steve one day
Hi Pete, Steve was a real character very interesting interview thanks for keeping the channel alive, and good luck with your new job
I love Steve’s channel & have watched them all. Highly recommended! Great interview Pete.
Thanks, NC!
@@steverosse I also bought your book “Leaving Thailand - A Memoir”. I haven’t read it yet. Due to your other content, I know I’ll enjoy it.
@@narellec I hope you do enjoy it, NC. Cuz, you know... no refunds.
So glad you got Steve back on. Loved the earlier interviews and found out he had a youtube channel after your community post. Ended up watching all his videos. Great stuff.
PS Steve is far too modest to admit this but he is the king of instagram selfies... you'll have to dig through his videos for that 😉
He seems great how do I find his channel
You can search Steve Rosse on TH-cam or click the link to his channel in the description of this video or in Petes (Thairish times) comment.
Good thing about Steve is not only is he an eloquent observer of life , he is also an active participant and well aware of his shortfalls. I wish him all the best.
That was a funny episode about the Instagram selfies!
@@tonybaloney6656 Very well put.
I worked with Steve in the film biz back in the eighties. He was the real deal and still is. Compelling interview! From a practical standpoint, wish you would have asked about his contingency plans for emergency medical. thanks
Thanks, Octavio. I wear an amulet to ward off disease. That's the plan.
The Elephant in the room. Steve don't like those questions
Go Fund Me will be the answer.
@@terencegraham8414 I can think of 2 TH-camrs in the Thailand niche ( one with heart disease and the other with cancer) as well as some in the Philippines niche who have gone Go Fund Me begging in their last days.
Always enjoy listening to Steve.
He likes where he is and that's good enough for him. I enjoy watching his podcast on TH-cam. I didn't know about the tin in the water... Good to know.
Thanks for the interview.
So I got all that I met tiger woods and his dad went in Los Angeles at a hospital. I won't say which one. His dad had open heart surgery and I was in RN and the unit. I never did take care of his dad but I knew him and I had met tiger. He was chasing after a couple of the the nurses there. He seemed like a slick guy too slick. Dad seemed pretty cool though, but he was pretty sick at the time. Just remembered...
Nice interview 👍🏼👍🏼
Steve your a fascinating type of guy good luck to you all
This guy is great! I need a carpe diem year in Thailand.
Thumbs up 👍 Pete & Steve
Two of my favourite TH-camrs back in the same room so to speak. I have followed Steve from his first interview with Pete. Great video as always from both gentleman. 👏👏👏👏
I’m very glad you enjoyed it 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks, LFT!
Great interview he is so right about these TH-camrs walking around showing the same old stuff lol😅
Steve's comment at about 44:30 is so true.....I burst out laughing when he said this! 😂
For the naysayers: I lived for a full year in Chiang Mai on just $1100 USD or 31K baht per month in 2019. I lived very well on that, no worries. My retirement SS will be roughly $1700 USD (600 USD more) and just like Steve I cannot imagine spending all of that money each month in Thailand.
Moderation in all things, says the Buddha.
Myself and the Mrs live in Bkk on 30k baht, of course that does not include what Steve is really interested in
Need bear and hooker money, daily.
You're lying. You can't stay longer than 60 to 90 days.
You survived and that was it. One serious medical issue and you were done. Stop speaking shit.
Brilliant interview. Love this guy.
Awesome interview! Steve's a character
Damn cant stop listening to Steve...he just draws you in..not the most eloquent but cant stop myself.
Steve needs some magic mushroom 🍄 Therapy....100% cure for social anxiety, depression etc...it wil change the way he looks at life and wont be running but be at peace❤
I took mushrooms in the 70s. Also Peyote, LSD, mescaline, amphetamines, barbiturates, and tons and tons of marijuana. Didn't cure anything.
glad you did another interview with Steve, certainly someone different-glad to see he is going well after his return to Thailand
Glad you liked it Duncan, Merry Christmas
@@ThairishTimes hope you survive the Irish winter!!
he has a good spirit
I really enjoyed that interview! Great stories. I’ve been to Thailand five times and counting.
Great stuff. Very sensible guy.
Steve! Just get the Adobe suite from any computer shop. They'll put it on your machine for about 500 baht
What an interview! What a story! Interesting guy! Keep up the great work! Thanks for linking to his materials too…
Another Good Interview. Thank you Pete & Rosse
I met a couple of foreigners who live in Thailand, and both on a meagre pensions. One in Issan, and the other down south.
I wish Steve 20 good fruitfull yrs in Thailand. Happiness keeps healthy. Bless you Steve.
Thank you Lilli. Happy new year to you.
Super interesting guy with a unique story
Brilliant laugh M B Off, I know the beach where he's at, Perfect.
If you are using ATMs to transfer all your money, you're going to lose a lot of money in fees. Not recommended, especially if you're tight.
Love your honesty sir enjoy your time in Thailand I applaud ppl who follow their dreams especially when they are on limited money and thank you Pete for sharing your amazing videos
This channel is such a breath of fresh air for SE Asia.
Another very entertaining video Pete. Another great character. Keep up the good work.
Thanks 🙏
28:25 I`m just lucky my pants fell off😆
I love watching him with Tim "Grumpy Old Men".
🙋🏻♀️At the end of your stories, your dialogue for the characters resemble that of Robot Chicken here in the US🤔
What a character he is. He was definitely born without a filter which I admire but struth he must a nightmare to live with.
Another crackin video Pete👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Where are the questions? I only hear the answers.😂😂😂 Hi peat hope you and your wife doing well, watching all of your videos,I’m from Thailand but I living in Canada with my husband and two kids , love your channel keep make it looking forward to see every videos of your,❤

Thanks for sharing Steve you have a new suscriber. Pete another great interview, much appreciated !
🙏🙏🙏 my pleasure
Great to see another interview with Steve that's how I found your channel the first time from his first interview. Maybe I should get him to ghost write my books that some of your subs suggested I write 😁
I don't do that kind of work, but I wish you luck, WA.
@@steverosse thanks btw that was a tongue in cheek comment
@@wanderlustasia So was mine.
Fantastic interview Pete. 👌🏻💪🏻 Steve’s a fascinating guy, loved listening to him tell his stories. Let him know, I use davinci resolve 17- now I think it’s 18. The free version. It’s can be a little overwhelming, but there is plenty of people on TH-cam telling you how to use it.
All the best Mate..🍻
The beach town he described seems an amazing place to check out. Having said that, this dude loves to hear his voice:I dont think many people have the patience to stand this man.
And yet this video has 16,000 views, my first interview on Thairish Times has 158,000 views, my own channel has two thousand subs and my appearances every Sunday on Tim Newton Today routinely get 10,000+ views. They wouldn't keep inviting me back if I didn't draw an audience.
@@steverosse The content is interesting and your stories are funny. I can just perceive you tend to dominate the (all) conversations. Nothing wrong with that
@@rgasta7765 These are interviews on TH-cam, R. They invite me expecting that I will talk a lot. That is specifically why they invite me. I don't talk this way at the dinner table.
It seems that most Americans are pretty comfortable in front of a mic or camera. A reflection of that country's extraordinary optimism and self-promotion
@@BingoLittletradingfootball Well, I hope that I bring something to the table that most of my countrymen don't. But we are good at self-promotion.
This guy seems nuts! But am glad he's happy in the Land of Smiles! I'm a bit jealous. I'd love to return to Thailand and live in a rural area up North that is not too far from a city. Maybe Udon or Pai.
Hello Pete! I have messaged you before and told you I was planning. On moving to Thailand. I wanted to give you an update. I have completely moved here away from the Beach in California. I sold my Tesla and everything else I owned and am now living in a dream condo in Jomtien Beach. I had not even been to Thailand until the end of last year and have visited 3 time before I moved. You and your wife had a lot of influence on that decision. I genuinely have nothing but appreciation for the effort you both put into videos introducing other to a real life in Thailand. I am forever thankful!
Thanks pal and I hope you are enjoying life where you are.
Cheers!
Hey! I am truly happy to know that we played a small part in your decision to move to Thailand. I wish you many years of happiness in the wonderful Land of Smiles
This guy can talk under water

Thanks, T!
Im living in Thailand on 500$ a month in Chiang Rai
I just realised ive conversed with this guy before. Interesting guy to say the least. An author i believe
This guy is cool good luck sir.
Fascinating interview. I would imagine that one can stretch $1500/month further than in the States, although I heard that rents are very high in Thailand now. So happy to hear that his decision to move back to Thailand is working well for him. Love the puppet show. How creative!
You can live more than we'll on £1500
This guy know how to talk.
I happy steve has made his wish of retiring in Thailand come true . Good luck to him he has found his slice of paradise. I look forward to hearing his stories . Great follow up Pete to his last appearance on your channel

Steve Ross at it again. Let’s gooooo!
Looks like Steve Martin 😅
WOW! That was a BRILLIANT interview! I watched the ENTIRE 57.51 Minutes of it!!! I've been watching GRAHAM NORTON and BORED out of my FREAKIN mind as he interviews all these "SUPPOSED" celebrities most who I have never heard of!!! This interview a MILLION times better!!! Yes the Tiger Woods story was HILARIOUS!!! I didn't however know he had disowned his Thai heritage. But sounds like there are two sides to the story ... PS. As a Scientist turned Copywriter, WHAT the HELL is "Typing Medical Transcriptions???" I've never heard of it! It must be an American thing.
Yes, it's one of the many "must have years of experience in a very narrow field to apply for a low skilled, low pay job" which constitute the overwhelming majority of the American job market...
He is lucky to get 1500 dollars every month. Try 520 English pounds which I have every month. If I can live on that in the UK ( I own my own home) you sure can live on 1500 US dollars in Thailand.
