@@ojbkk Yes, you need to have a proper Visa (Non-B, SMART, LTR, etc.) and Work Permit to legally work from Thailand. This includes Remote Workers that work for a company or have a business outside of Thailand.
@ojbkk Correct. Technically, you would need to find/rent 'office' space if you were a remote worker that would be setting up a Thai company. You would also need 4x Thai staff on the books in order for a Work Permit to be issued. If you are a higher earning remote worker (ie. you worked remote for a larger company) you would be better off going the LTR visa route where you don't need to get office space. You'd also get a digital work permit out of this versus the standard Work Permit that would typically be issued alongside a Non-B Visa (if you went the route of setting up a proper Thai company).
I’m a Thai Citizen so I can’t help with that information. Best thing to do is get legal advice as I know there is a bit of a grey area as it depends on how it affects Thailand, like taking work away from the Thai people.

Hi Adam - Great content and well done with your channel so far. I'm interested in content about expat families from the USA, particularly regarding schools. My wife is from Bangkok, and we're quite familiar with the city and absolutely love it. We've been living in the US for several years now, and our son is currently 3 years old. We're contemplating a move to Bangkok in the near future, possibly when our son is entering 3rd to 5th grade. We'd love to hear from expat families about their experiences with the education system in Thailand. Specifically, we're curious about the differences between public education in the U.S. and private American international schools in Bangkok, and how well these schools prepare students for college and beyond.

Totally it was an issue for us here in Hong Kong but Bangkok pollution is at a whole different level. Obviously the night they've shot the video it looks gorgeous, likely heavy rain earlier that afternoon actually, but a lot of the time when I was seconded to Bangkok the air was more a solid than a gas. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic city and in retirement I'd totally consider it, my lungs have had a good innings😂 But with babies etc - nah not for me
@@tkpctt2001 But it just isn't. The latest AQHI I can find full year of 2023 has Bangkok at #33 worst city on earth for air pollution. Which is an impressive achievement 🙄given that almost the entire top 30 as you'd probably expect are taken up by cities in India, China, Bangladesh and Pakistan. If you don't believe in the scientific data and you think the air quality is "good" then fine, it's a pointless argument. Tell your interviewee that PREPA (French pre-engineering studies) is not the equivalent of PREP SCHOOL (junior school before UK private secondary school).
This is a very informative video. I'm thinking about moving to Thailand for retirement. Wondering if it's possible to rent a small house with a yard in Bangkok around USD$300~/M. Suburb is fine, but concern if their rapid transit goes there/ public transportation system is convenient there? Most importantly, if their big grocery store chains would deliver grocery to suburban areas ( I have arthritis in both hands)? Chiang Mai sounds interesting too. Is that true that Chiang Mai has more retirees ( seniors) while as Bangkok has expats of all age groups? Thank you. 😅
At current conversion rates, that's just under 11K Baht per Month which is doable. But... it would be a small house deep in the Bangkok suburbs. The sort of neighbourhood where it would take you 45 minutes to get into the central part of the city by BTS or MRT (ie. Bang Na, part of Samut Prakan, Bang Wa, Nonthaburi, Suan Luang, etc.). Nothing wrong with this at all. In fact, those neighbourhoods are often pretty cool and if you're okay to live a simpler life without the hustle and bustle of the big city, might even be something you prefer. At that price point, my guess is that you'd end up with a small, simple, but pretty decent 2 or 3 bedroom house. As far as Bangkok versus Chiang Mai goes, I would say that there's a higher percentage of the foreign-born population in Chiang Mai that are retirees. Not sure on actual numbers though. What you stated makes sense. As far as grocery delivery goes, yes... this would not be a problem.
@adamparker21 Hi Adam, thank you so very much for the informative reply. Really appreciated. Despute 2 - 3 bedroom is an overkill to me, I'm only glad it's possible. What I'm hoping to get is hopefully a simple living space (a studio / 1 bedroom or anything, besides a small house) not too packed with people ( most condo communities or the like have so many tenants and so intimately "connected" that dies not leave much room for "(mental) space" and sometimes privacy). Wondering if it's possible to get something like that in areas that's a bit closer to the central city with USD$300/m~ Thank you.😅
Yes - possible. But it would be a Studio or 1-Bedroom condo. You'd be able to find that in a solid neighbourhood (not right in the centre of the city but a 15-minute BTS Skytrain ride away....). As far as finding a condo building with not many tenants goes... that'd probably be tough.
@adamparker21 Thank you, Adam. Really appreciate your reply. 15 minutes Skytrain away... sounds like $300/m won't get me even just a studio in the city. Is that for both Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Just for my information. 😂
Cool interviews man, well done on your start. We have a place at the beach in Thailand and are keen to relocate but I am concerned about the level of pollution. Would be interested to know if you and your guests take the environmental degradation, and the impacts of this degradation on your health into account when deciding on this major life move?
Thanks man and yes. In Bangkok I think the pollution should 100% considered as a very real ‘negative’ when listing out Pros and Cons as part of a potential move. Is it unbearable every second of every day? No. But it’s definitely noticeable enough (particularly from January to April) where it affects quality of life when outdoors. I’d imagine the same would go for Chiang Mai during the same time frame. I’m not sure what part of the Country you have your place at the beach… but air quality and pollution usually isn’t an issue in the Islands and would be far less of an issue anywhere along the coast a few hours south of Bangkok (ie. Hua Hin, Chumphon, etc.). There would be the odd polluted day… but it would be rare and I don’t think a move to the beach would warrant much thought when it comes to air pollution. That’s just my two cents.

One thing I was wondering is the cost of going to a school that offers IB in BKK. Doubt there are low cost public ones, or? We talking about boarding school level fees probably?
Depends on age/year as well as school. I would assume a safe range (for purpose of having some semblance of an idea) would be 400K Baht per year up to 1.1M Baht per year for a reputable International School that offers IB curriculum. I'm going to be doing a video with a young family in 2x weeks time so will ask that question!
That's equivalent to 1500+USD per month! A great interview, but Tim is definitely well off when it comes to income. If you want, what you can afford is different. Visas for people under 50 are expensive! Health insurance is another cost one needs to consider.
Do you think you can do some videos on people who are around 70 and retired to Thailand at that age and why also could you please tell me how many baht i would get for 1 Canadian dollar thanks.
Can do regarding your request. And as of right now (the time of writing this)... the THB to CAD conversion is $1 = 26.94 Baht. Obviously this changes every second of every day... but the general range over a long period of time seems to be $1 CAD = 23 to 28 Baht
Hi, great video! What do you think about Thailand's new tax law from January? Now, all money transferred from abroad to Thailand could be taxed up to 35%. Of cause for people who are there for 180+ days per year. It sounds like it could really add to the tax burden in Thailand, not to mention all the extra hassle with tax registrations and returns, right?
it's nothing special or unusual. If you're living there more than half the year, then you are a tax resident and need to pay tax on income - income from any source globally. The thing is that Thailand has a tax treaty with many countries, so most people won't be taxed twice. USA citizens may be double taxed though, because USA never lets you 'leave' the USA, for tax purposes.
Lots more Canadians will join young justin t in bangkok on his yt channel so we will hear many stories😊 Canadian socialism and 50% tax might make it hard to live in -30 weather
I'm Thai, I can say our country is not the best for sure, we've many bad sides, The bad things I don't like are our politicians and the bad laws!. But I love my country the most, what you can find here is peaceful. Have peaceful and happiness in Bangkok Tim and your wife.
Great interview. 57k bat is $2100 cad, which is insane. He said it’s a third of what he paid in Toronto. There aren’t $7000/month 3 bed townhomes here. Seems like a stretch to me.
People that moved to Siam they will cut their life short due to the fact that this country got the world worst air pollution of all time. Not to mention in Bangkok. Talking about Lung cancer and skin cancer and a lot more diseases.
Exactly! Just after 1 week staying there in BKK I suffered non stop asthma that hasn't occurred since my. Childhood! Such a nightmare walking around breathing it in day & night! I could even smell the car exhaust fumes in the air pretty sharply tbh! That's no place to raise my kids in taking all those pollutants in daily!

For less than 1000USD In Kuala Lumpur prime city centre district could get you a Condo with infinity sky pool & gym some even comes with sauna wellness spa area all with the magnificent views of Petronas Twin Towers!
Comparing apple to apple for the same life quality it is much more affordable in Kuala Lumpur with much less air pollution & traffic congestions too!

Despite what people say, living in the PI with even as semblance of a western lifestyle will cost you more than living in the USA...
His Thai business partner can be just a law firm
Good!
Which condo in phrom pong is it?
Siamese gioia
A great interview, but Tim is definitely well off when it comes to income. If you want, what you can afford is different. Visas for people under 50 are expensive! Health insurance is another cost one needs to consider.
Agreed 100%. Visas for those under 50 are not only relatively pricey (compared to a retirement Visa) but also tougher to get in many cases
Son of a French diplomat.
Comments support.
Lots more Canadians will join young justin t in bangkok on his yt channel so we will hear many stories😊
Canadian socialism and 50% tax might make it hard to live in -30 weather

Welcome to Happyland😂😂😂
Dude you speak exactly like you dad. Is he still around? I use to watch his videos
Chris is my Uncle and yep, he still makes videos
Boy he. Is a talker….less words people
I disagree. I love longer interviews where you really get the time to know people, their situation etc. it’s the opposite of the Tic Tok world.
A lot of honking tho... :)
It's $1550, and yes there are $4500/mo townhouses I'm guessing. You calculated at 80k baht which was the asking price
@@patrickwilliam3322 thanks for clarifying. I’m in Toronto and I envy where you are right now 😄
@@afzalshaikh2128 Unfortunately I am in the northeast US and it's hardly cheap here but not quite as inflated as Canada
Making horns is rude in Thailand. Don't make horns unnecessarily here.
Bhat reference is very disappointing.
Use USD as this is mostly for an international audience. Or mention the xchange rate. Tge whole video is made useless because of Bhat mention😚
@@marcusgoh73 yuk ridiculously unhealthy let alone burning season, might as well move to Mumbai
