The casting of the Beast has been underestimated. Hollywood has never tried to portray a shabbily dressed, streetwise middle-aged man as a martial arts master, but this movie has achieved it and with such a good effect.😂😂
In his prime, he was a real martial artist and a actor. Obviously Steven chow liked him a lot.
@@Mingmassage Steven actually fear offending him when he offer the role... but he was able to take the role to the peak. same as with the couple, they were all peak martial artist in their own right. their professionalism is commendable.
I guess you totally forgot about Mr. Myagi? 😂
@@TwinMcQuerns lol Mr. Miyagi is middle-aged or older, but is anything but shabby.
@nephatrine He spent most of his time in the movies dressed in coveralls or army surplus, so perhaps shabby is a bit of a stretch, but he was far from the height of fashion. This was the 80's. Men still regularly wore suits and ties. 80's people would be shocked at how fat and slovenly dressed we are today. The whole point of the way he was dressed in the movies was that he looked like a person of no consequence.

For people who don’t understand what Stephen Chow was doing…
He actually put “wuxia novel” elements in his Hong Kong style comedy.
Therefore sometimes foreigners found it hard to understand why people are jumping and flying around in Hong Kong movies.
Imagine it is a parallel universe with people practicing “internal power” or chi-like stuff and will use their kung fu for justice, like Star Wars, then you might have a better experience while watching these kinds of action films 😊
Sometimes Stephen Chow also told his fellow actors to imitate Bruce Lee to show his respect towards his idol. Stephen himself is a lifelong experienced material artist with Wing Chun background. But he said he just didn’t get involved with “real action films” like Jackie Chan style movies.
When I see these clips I can only imagine how much fun the actors had making this movie! Must have been a great time!

The way stephen chow introduced the villain is really genius in writing. Before this scene happened, he was just some old man locked in a cell. Minding his own business. He's also locked in a secluded cell and very heavily guarded making us the viewers wondering what this old man did to get locked like that in the first place. And then, later, we know what his capable of. We saw him catch a bullet in point blank range ease. Here, we see his true power. He's stronger than both hero and heroine combine. Faster and more durable. The only thing that caught him off guard is the lion roar move. We saw him basically bodied these two with ease.
Yes. And without special technics he mastered.
Are u for real? Is this commentsection real or is this just sarcasm? i dont get it..... this is one of the worst clips i have ever seen
It's a villain trope that's been sadly lost in the sea of "cool mastermind" and "badass evil guy" characters. Just the normal looking, unassuming, laid back, generally polite guy who's an absolute monster hidden behind the exterior is one of my favourite types of villains. It mirrors a more real world aesthetic of evil. The most evil and dangerous people in our history were people you could pass on the street and never look twice. Villains like The Beast, Gaunter O Dimm, Blackbeard etc always hit for me. The Devil after all hides in plain sight.
same thing with the hero, at no point would you think henchman #5 that got his face plummeted into earths core would end up being the OP main character that unlocks hos godly potential and saves everyone, he comes out of nowhere in the middle of the film
In the movie it is said that he got too bored and gone insane because he had gotten too strong, that is why you can see in the end, he regains his sanity and begs to be his disciple
This piece never gets old I'm so sure many people watch it more than twice. The truly amazing things about it is the realistic factor and I dont mean the cg. The proper timing, the proper distance calculated from each attack force is carefully thought out. Except the part where the villain stood a bit too further away from previous exchange right before the second lion roar, almost everything else is properly done. Its hard to believe this was filmed many decades ago. Master piece.
Two decades is not many
