Insane level of creativity and humor here.
The whole time she was banging on the bell, I was reacting like, why the heck would someone be ringing a bell in the middle of a life or death fight?
The minute she got the top off and picked it up and realized what was about to happen, I was just in awe. The fact they could write a prop like this into a fight scene and make it so much fun.
Stephen Chow or whoever came up with this scene is a creative genius. You can watch the movie 10 times and never be bored.

Yeah. I had similar thoughts when I saw the movie first time....but when you saw the bell turn into in a kind of high speaker...you think...the beast is probably dead...He survived the normal lion roar...but with the bell...the strength is multiplied various levels.

When I see these clips I can only imagine how much fun the actors had making this movie! Must have been a great time!
After decades of watching this i just realized at 3:37 rather than the sound of her voice screaming it actually sounded like a Lions Roar when that shockwave happened.
That part still gives me goosebumps
I did notice, that was a nice touch considering the technique’s name.
I come to this vid every so often for the same reason: to hear and see the cool effects of the roar.
lions roar is one of the storys of The Legend of the Condor Heroes 1957, by a story character called Golden Retriever Lion King Xie Xun. And name such because he looks like a lion. btw those story written by Jin Yong has made foundation most of nowadays kung fu stories as well. Most teqnique from this movie is referenced from those as well.
This one and Shaolin soccer never gets old .. both are timeless treasures
@Ξjora as much as i loved kung pow....its really hard to compare an intentionally bad (annnnd hilarious) overdub to a well written kung fu original.
Kung Fu Hustle takes all the cake.

the lion's roar through the bell is incredible
This piece never gets old I'm so sure many people watch it more than twice. The truly amazing things about it is the realistic factor and I dont mean the cg. The proper timing, the proper distance calculated from each attack force is carefully thought out. Except the part where the villain stood a bit too further away from previous exchange right before the second lion roar, almost everything else is properly done. Its hard to believe this was filmed many decades ago. Master piece.
Two decades is not many
I still wish they did a sequel.
This was a gem for its time.
Almost everyone I've ever shown this to loved it. Edit: got rid of the word underrated because people take things way too serious.

The rubber hose style of choreography, the score picking up and the chimes as landlady is breaking the bell, and the crowning glory of the Beast no longer amused by this game of kung-fu masters.

Man I remember first seeing this movie in San Diego, CA around 05-06. Me and the homie went to Taco Bell for a chipotle burrito and stopped at blockbuster to rent some dvds (yes blockbuster). We got to a certain point and was like hold up, ant this a comedy? These folks fighting frfr. Went and smoked a lil sum sum and restarted the movie. That night Kung Fu hustle became my favorite movie!!!!
The way stephen chow introduced the villain is really genius in writing. Before this scene happened, he was just some old man locked in a cell. Minding his own business. He's also locked in a secluded cell and very heavily guarded making us the viewers wondering what this old man did to get locked like that in the first place. And then, later, we know what his capable of. We saw him catch a bullet in point blank range ease. Here, we see his true power. He's stronger than both hero and heroine combine. Faster and more durable. The only thing that caught him off guard is the lion roar move. We saw him basically bodied these two with ease.
Yes. And without special technics he mastered.
Are u for real? Is this commentsection real or is this just sarcasm? i dont get it..... this is one of the worst clips i have ever seen
It's a villain trope that's been sadly lost in the sea of "cool mastermind" and "badass evil guy" characters. Just the normal looking, unassuming, laid back, generally polite guy who's an absolute monster hidden behind the exterior is one of my favourite types of villains. It mirrors a more real world aesthetic of evil. The most evil and dangerous people in our history were people you could pass on the street and never look twice. Villains like The Beast, Gaunter O Dimm, Blackbeard etc always hit for me. The Devil after all hides in plain sight.
6:45 This part really made me laugh hard😆
Same😂😂😂💔
😂😂😂
The scene where main character (Forgot his name XD) hits the beast is very impressive. He had a choice- a nice, easy way as a gang member, or doing the right thing against impossible odds, and he chose the second. That's very good, and I actually find it better than the final fight.
I love Kung Fu Hustle. Favorite moment EVER, "Why did you hit me?" 'proceeds to cluck him with tiny piece of wood.'😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Classic Kung Fu comedic movie. It's hilarious really helps get that depression out. I have watched this movie multiple times.
The best way to get the depression out is suicide...rest is temporary
Jesus can and will help you if you make space for him in your heart, depression isn’t something to sit on and wait for it to go away, I pray that you find the path and get rid of what makes you feel this way.
Eat more red meat and less carbs.
So sorry to hear that. Have you watched Chow's other movies id recommend Fight Back to School, God of Cookery, Magnificent Scoundrels theyre classic.
@@harukrentz435 Will do.
"Why did you hit me," and then the bonk on the head with the shard of wood is just... goddamn, classic. Sing is seriously a great protagonist and we get shown how an idealistic kid who stands up to bullies can be turned into a jerkwad but still be that idealistic kid who stands up to bullies at heart.
Comedic scene yes ... And to see he did it after his head crushed like he was dead puts it more into fantasy with comedy category! Awesome thought!
The action, choreography, sound effects, music, the expressions on the actors faces = TOP NOTCH cinema!
Steven Chow could never replicate the quality of this movie, but regardless, he's created a complete masterpiece in the movie Kung Fu Hustle.

For people who don’t understand what Stephen Chow was doing…
He actually put “wuxia novel” elements in his Hong Kong style comedy.
Therefore sometimes foreigners found it hard to understand why people are jumping and flying around in Hong Kong movies.
Imagine it is a parallel universe with people practicing “internal power” or chi-like stuff and will use their kung fu for justice, like Star Wars, then you might have a better experience while watching these kinds of action films 😊
Sometimes Stephen Chow also told his fellow actors to imitate Bruce Lee to show his respect towards his idol. Stephen himself is a lifelong experienced material artist with Wing Chun background. But he said he just didn’t get involved with “real action films” like Jackie Chan style movies.
This move should‘ve won an Oscar instead of „eeaao“…
