The significance of the ending can not be understated. After showing him that he could have ended it whenever he wanted, he grabs what was a weapon, and shows it as instead a toy. The same was as the martial arts, not meant to harm. When he asked him what move it was, and was offered to be taught, he was forgiven of his mistakes however great. He saw him as he was, seeing him in the shadow of the sun, he felt a wave of every emotion possible, fully accepting his offering of forgiveness and teaching.

This film is truly a masterpiece, paid homage to so many kung fu novels, characters, fighting styles and tidbits. I still get a real laugh at the knives and snakes scene!

He thought he'd reached the pinnacle of what could be achieved, and what he had achieved made him feel empty, bored, and unfulfilled. Realizing that there are mysteries beyond what he had hoped to be able to achieve restored his sense of wonder, and the fact that this now-enlightened young man that he had tried to kill would offer to teach him if he could humble himself to learn filled him with hope (such as he must have once had when he began learning the martial arts in his youth).

Very nicely summarized. A brutal beatdown or death wouldn't do justice to a villain like that. The beast did evil things but not out of evil intentions.

The fact that we never got a sequel was a crime. That old man pulled out like 5 different books including ones with a sword technique. Would've been crazy to see those new styles. This is still one of the greatest kung fu action comedies ever.

Was it punishment or relief for his quest to finally be over? After all, the Beast shut himself in a dark hole in an insane asylum because he couldn't find a worthy opponent. Now he can walk in the sun again because his world makes sense. I believe those are tears of joy!

Best fighting movie ever
When Sing offered to teach the Beast the buddist palm, it was precisely at that moment that he was pulled back to sanity. The beast felt humbled to be defeates by someone so talented, and all his convictions fell apart when Sing chose to spare him. I love this movie..!

The final step to transformation wasn’t being defeated in battle- it was being presented with understanding and compassion.
More importantly, the Beast realize there is no way he could overcome Sing even he will teach him about Buddaish palm, his pride is completely shattered.

I normally don't like kung fu movies with all the special effects because it looks so stupid to me. But this movie never took itself serious from the start and I absolutely adored it. I think I've watched it at least a dozen times.

If you watch a Chinese or Hong Kong movie that heavily relies on special effects, flying around and stuff like that, it's usually not a kung fu movie, it's a wuxia movie

Sing went from all talk, no action to doing a complete 180. Through out the movie he would try to pick a fight with everybody, but he couldn't back up his words. In this scene he's totally quiet while fighting and the only time he spoke was after defeating the Beast.

Guy is sitting in prison, not because they caught him, but because he's bored. You think he needed the hero to pick the lock? He could have thrashed that prison cell and been gone.
Somebody breaking into a prison to get him, though, that's rather interesting (the only reason he plays along). He sits at the top of the martial arts world, and he knows it!
Hero offering to teach him _anything_ is one of the most humbling insults he could have offered, especially given the age difference.

At 3:14 I noticed a small detail I had not before. The Beast had a single drop of sweat going down the visible side of his face. Whether he was consciously aware or not he knew instinctively that this guy was going to be trouble and his body was already under stress from the anticipation.

Kung Fu Hustle is a great homage to all the kung fu movies, kung fu masters, stunt man and Bruce Lee. I love how the bad guys aren't looking super tough but rather how smooth and swiftly they fought. And the way how Stephan Chow imitated Bruce Lee with his fights and his clothing was a great tribute. And then the running joke about a stuntman too.

A beautiful ending. Both found their purpose. The final boss achieved what he wanted, he wanted to be defeated. But his purpose was to learn more. The hero got what his purpose was, to be the strongest kung Fu master.

As much as I like this fight scene, I think the moment he hit beast before gaining these great powers was my favourite in this movie. He could've chosen an easy, evil way, but instead chose to fight impossible odds to do what's right, and that's some impressive shit.
The man who plays the Beast had been retired for many years. he had always been the good guy in his films. This was his return and the first time he ever played a villain.
He was perfect as the Beast.
This movie will always be one of my top favorites of all time. When my mother was still alive prior to now what has been 4 years since leukemia took her from me this was a movie we used to watch almost ever week. I still watching here and there to remember her.

You know I'm starting to think that the before the events of the movie the Land Lord and the Land Lady used to be a very happy married couple however that changed when their son died which turned the land lady into this bitter old hag while the land lord resorted into adultery as a means to cope for the lost of their son.

When you watch it for the first time, all your expectations are subverted.
You expect Sing to fall, because up until now his power is only vaguely only hinted at and mostly he is shown as someone who cannot defend himself.
When the first axe lands, you are filled with dread. Slowly, his power and skill level keep increasing throughout the fight.
Truly, this is how build-ups should be, not unnecessary posturing and grand stands.
If I were to describe all the ways this movie was awesome, I'd break the internet. Also, thank God his pants weren't flammable, otherwise that would have been awkward.
