HUGE THANKS to ExpressVPN for offering all Food Ranger viewers 3 months free and 49% off their yearly package using this link: ExpressVPN.com/Thefoodranger . Travelers need ExpressVPN to stay safe online and to unblock any site. I personally use it for Netflix, even while at home in Canada, but also while traveling to unblock content and episodes that are geoblocked, and I also use it for security, because airport wifi and hotel wifi is often very insecure, leaving my data vulnerable. By connecting to one of their servers around the world, it’s just like my computer or phone is in that location, and all data sent while connected to their VPN is secure, safe, and private from others to see, so I know that my data won’t be hacked or looked at by others. Thanks so much for watching, and we have tons more videos coming up for you! Please leave me a comment below letting me know what you thought about this episode, thanks so much!!!
People in Rural China seem to be so friendly. Really love those awesome people. Never go on what media says, they are just there to corrupt this world. Trevor you are doing really wonderful job of going really deep into the country and showcasing real culture and their traditions and values. I admire how they are united and celebrate their rituals or festives. I really hope I can see this things in my country more often, rather than people being selfish and just creating filth everywhere. Tired of seeing misery eveywhere here. When I watch your video its like festival to my eyes :) Keep going. Big fan of yours. Your videos are very real and authentic, this is how it is supposed to be. Cheers!!
Yes! Hopefully one day those poor children can be reunited with their migrant parents who don't have a choice but to leave them behind in the country! I saw a DOC on this on YT it's quite sad. In North America we can move to any city and our kids still have access to school and medical care regardless of what city they are from. It's not like that in China. People can only stay in the place they are born to prevent over crowding in cities.
+Zidane Z+ Thanks for the compliment :) lol. But bit offensive if you take it generally :P lol again. My fellow country men are very brave and knowledgeable.
You are truly an amazing person. All of your videos has zero fake drama or play but pure life of people. Respect you Canadian bro! I love your videos that spreads the smell of deliciousness and people!
Thank you for filming this Trevor. I studied abroad in Yunnan and seeing your video is Dali is giving me life and makes me so happy. I cannot wait to see more videos of you in Yunnan! I hope you meet more ethnic minorities and get to discover their cuisine! Daizu food is frickening amazing!!! Hopefully you get to try their food. Can't wait to see you stop in beautiful Kunming!!!!
The seniors festival, I hope this part of Chinese culture preserved forever, passing down the generations, this respect is the core reason that old people in China are so much lively than the old people in the western society... Feast looked so good....
Trevor, this is such a privilege position for you to be in - I bet you never you thought things like this would unfold for you the more you do and share with us and your subscribers. So happy and well...I can't help but be jealous at same time you do this. Keep up the good work!
Trevor ,your video is amazing!i am a chinese student study in Germany now, every time I miss the Chinese food I will watch your video, you will never let me down, and I hope you can eat chinesefood with mark wien, you two guys are also amazing
Dali for me was a completely spiritual experience. Arriving early in the morning, the lake shrouded in mist, then to moon and the rising sun in perfect equilibrium above the hills either side of the lake above the snow capped trees. In all my travels in China, Dali is the most memorable. I fell in love with the most amazing woman in Dali.
Trevor already is our Canadian Ambassador. His genuine interest, appreciation and warm heart reflect our Canadian value. He gets the same reception globally. Thank you Trevor!
TAI HAO LE MERCH IS STILL AVAILABLE! Click here to order! bit.ly/taihaole We found the most amazing feast in a back alley in Dali, Yunnan. I hope you enjoy what we found. There was so many local Yunnanese specialties! We are loving the food in Yunnan, and are going to film another couple episodes before making our way to Kolkata for 3 weeks to eat street food! I can’t wait! I hope you’re doing well, and I would love to hear from you in the comments below. Thanks so much for watching!
You're at your best when you make videos out of China.. Videos in other countries are still interesting, but what is really inticing about the China ones , is the way you connect with locals, by speaking the language
At 16:38 you can see them purposefully put their cups low while cheering with Trevor. That's the Chinese way of showing respect in drinking manners, which is only typically seen when drinking with the elders
Trevor one of your best ever! This is a rich cultural record you have shared with us. (small note: your intro graphic, you need to show where you are traveling from and to using animation / graphics on the map). Thanks
Random comment here.. But I just watched a docu on how 2pac was a gangster, while waiting for my frozen pizza to be ready, which I just ate while watching this. And I'm literally in tears of happiness. It's so good to see genuine people who are kind and enjoying true food in company. Thank you so much Trevor! You show me, and likely many others, how to enjoy the true life and honesty and good living, kindness and understanding and all the good qualities. All the best for your travels, may you experience the sweet side of life over and over! I'll be forever thankful to be able to watch and experience this from the sideline. It also inspires to experience it in real life. So cheers man! Awesome work.
This is a big trandiational holiday in China, specifically for the celebration to those elderly people. It is also an important holiday for the celebration of friendship. There is an oft-quoted poem about this holiday: Double Ninth, Remembering my Shandong Brothers (九月九日憶山東兄弟), by the Tang Dynasty poet 王维 Wang Wei ca AD 730 獨在異鄉為異客, dú zài yì xiāng wéi yì kè 每逢佳節倍思親。 měi féng jiā jié bèi sī qīn 遙知兄弟登高處, yáo zhī xiōng dì dēng gāo chù 遍插茱萸少一人。 biàn chā zhū yú shǎo yī rén As a lonely stranger in a foreign land, At every holiday my homesickness increases. Though far away, I know my friends have also reached the mountain peak; They are wearing the zhuyu leaves and missing the one that is not present. Taihaole/太好了,Taibangle/太棒啦!
The translation of the poem is very bad, here is version translated by a famous Chinese translator called Xu Yuanchong: Thinking of my Brothers on Double Ninth Day Alone, a lonely stranger in a foreign land, I doubly pine for kinsfolk on a holiday. I know my brothers would, with dogwood spray in hand, Climb up mountain and miss me so far away. -- Tr. by X. Y. Z.
Each has its own merits. Here is another version: All alone in a foreign land, I am twice as homesick on a holiday When brothers carry dogwood up the mountain, Each of them a branch-and my branch missing.
Amazing food! This reminds me of the episode of Bite of China where the chef was preparing a banquet feast to pay respect to the elderly. The whole community was involved in the food preparation and serving. Truly a wonderful event! Your lucky to be a part of this!
I just adore your videos Trevor. With my health conditions, travel will never be possible but I am so enjoying watching you, I swear I can smell and taste everything. Wonderful.
This has probably been my favorite video so far, totally beautiful! The ocassion was gorgeous, shots were amazing, and I loved that it had a strong cultural background to it, the whole confucianist tradition of honoring the elders... 太好了! Trevor just an idea, maybe you could look for more of this "culturally loaded content", I think that it's very interesting because these kind of things are not just beautiful but they also have the capacity to inspire good things in others... To explain myself a bit better, I'm Colombian and seeing this ritual of giving a feast to the elders really makes me think what could I do for those in my home community... See what I mean? It's just an idea, if it rings any bell that's great, if not it's also great because your videos really rock. Just wanted to tell you that Im going to take my Hsk exam next week so I can apply to study mandarin in China, if I manage to get there (probably in 1~2 years) I really hope we can meet. :) Have a great great trip!!
Righteous1 That's true. there's so many varieties of food, and so many ways to cook. Different parts of China eats quite different! So it's hard to try all the food in your life
Trevor, thank you for your amazing videos. You are very blessed to be able to share in this feast. Thank you for the way you are so respectful in your approach and in your editing. Just ordered my TAI HAO LE Tshirt...
supermn05 Nice catching, this holiday is also for the celebration of friendship, people are also thinking of their good friend who is not with them in this holiday.
This was just lovely. It reminded me of huge church feasts we had when I was a little boy. One of my favorite observations is that I have yet been to an area of the world that did not have some kind of meatball. Meatballs are one of the most ubiquitous ideas across global cultures! And they all taste different.
WOW! Amazing video! Love the cultural feel on this one. The locals are SO friendly there... like family. Great looking dishes... and those giant woks! Fun to watch!
What a beautiful celebration. The people were so gracious and hospitable. The community was so friendly and generous. I felt like I was at a family reunion. Wonderful video. Trevor, thank you for sharing such a pleasant experience.
You know it's going to be good, when there's so many meatballs they have to stir them with a shovel! You and Ting rock man, truly! My fav youtube channel!
Love this video Trevor, that feast looked so epic I can just imagine the amazing tastes and smells you experienced! Watched this while cooking Chinese food! 😊 life is good!
Ai only the wealthy chinese people travel to the west, often these people can be very snobbish. Also, some take out all they hate about the west on western people
You're obviously unaware of the Chinese social credit system. They get points for being "good citizens" (as defined by the Communist Party) and points deducted for negative things like saying bad stuff. Those with a poor social credit are penalised {like being put at the back of a queue to see see a doctor). That's why they is acting all friendly.
That was an incredible feast of such fresh flavours & such genial wonderful people ! Wow seeing this Celebration in Rural China was indeed special. thank you & Love from India !
Danceographic Ocean ... so what you mean to say was Christan people celebrities Christmas .... on 25th December .... and rest of the year they are Muslim .... lol ....
the reason why your channel is so successful is, that you dont show us the mainstream food experience, but the rather hidden treats keep on going, we all like to see more
These videos are amazing. i am hooked! i love it that you can converse fluently with the locals in their own language and you can see they are totally impressed by that! 10/10 rating for me!
Wonderful to see this rare feast. It does require a lot of drinking the rice liquor, which is somewhat like drinking jet fuel. Getting drunk is unavoidable if you join in this amazing experience.
I tried that rice liquor once in shanghai. If you can imagine the combo of 110 octane gasoline and rocket fuel and nitroglycerin. It's really undrinkable. I took a tiny sip and gave the rest to the driver we hired for the day. I think he used it to polish his wheels. 😬
Fantastic! Wow what a feast and being right there at the right time, Amazing! 2 meals with over 200 locals makes you look at how close they are to the elderly.
As a country with 5000 yrs of history, u cannot imagine how many kinds of food we created. TBH, he still miss Lu cuisine and HuaiYang cuisine I think, 2 years of searching for food is simply not enough time for a traveller if u wanna eat every single kind of different food

Feast looked so good....
One of my favorite videos so far. That experience seemed soooo great and it truly felt like I was there too.
The fact that they were cooking with a shovel makes you realize how huge the feast was!
Our town has a once a year fried chicken feast cooked in a giant pan that uses pitch forks for turning and taking out the chicken.
Interesting Observation
Trevor, this is such a privilege position for you to be in - I bet you never you thought things like this would unfold for you the more you do and share with us and your subscribers. So happy and well...I can't help but be jealous at same time you do this. Keep up the good work!
And here I am, spending a whole lot of time holding the refrigerator door open, looking for answers.

I think Canadian government wouldn't agree with it, considering he could be bribed with some delicious food.

You're at your best when you make videos out of China.. Videos in other countries are still interesting, but what is really inticing about the China ones , is the way you connect with locals, by speaking the language
Completely agree with you
respecting the elders. That's one of the most things I'm proud of our culture...
It's so important, not only for their wellbeing but also for the youngsters to learn from.
And here in the USA it is the opposite - old is like a curse word
THE SUPER ELITE we are slowly losing it tho confucianism should be promoted more.
Ggg Gg
Really? Can you give an example for your claim?
At 16:38 you can see them purposefully put their cups low while cheering with Trevor. That's the Chinese way of showing respect in drinking manners, which is only typically seen when drinking with the elders
Luisa And with guests

能參加這麼特別的宴席,真是人人有這榮幸,而且有美食相伴,羨慕啊!!
just a friendly tip, it is more polite if you hold your wine cup with both hands and lower than the cups of the hosts or elderly
That guy with the bong at 19:10 is a beast. Looks so classy when he smokes at the table! Love it...
HAHA love how he was just rippin it at the table
Legendary scene! This whole episode is best-of material!
Everything looks delicious in China. So many options of food to eat. It seems like the dishes are infinite.

Amazing feast indeed.
You have out grown You Tube Trevor! You need to be on the travel channel. So much dedication and love. Move over Andrew Zimmerman!
Wow that is so nice to hear, thank you Teddy!
Just a fyi, his name is Andrew Zimmern, not Zimmerman. No rudeness intended, just saying
Thank you for the correction. I'm so bad with names.. But I know my foods!!! Haha have a great day friend!

I quit smoking today and while watching this video I noticed you don't smoke either. That's inspiring. Keep it up Trevor, spread the love!
Why are Chinese people so friendly
Ai only the wealthy chinese people travel to the west, often these people can be very snobbish. Also, some take out all they hate about the west on western people
Coz they know the secret police are watching and that they'll be thrown into jail if they show any sign of dissent. It's all an act.
Sancho G pls visit China and looking in your eyes.don't be liar.
Maurits van Uffelen have you ever been China? If not ,do not say something like that.Being friendly is a tradition of Chinese people.

I just Lover the concept Travor.....
A very important festive in China~
Danceographic Ocean ..... what a negative way to look at this beautiful idea .....
Danceographic Ocean ... so what you mean to say was Christan people celebrities Christmas .... on 25th December .... and rest of the year they are Muslim .... lol ....
Danceographic Ocean ....... Muslims celebrate Eid twice a year ..... and ..... rest of the year they are Christan.
the reason why your channel is so successful is, that you dont show us the mainstream food experience, but the rather hidden treats
keep on going, we all like to see more
Chinese people are really good at persuading people drinking Baijiu.
yeah, it shows their welcomes and respect in Chinese traditional culture except the situation that they really want to put you down with the "Baijiu"~
Getting drunk is unavoidable if you join in this amazing experience.
how does jet fuel taste like?
the rice liquor is really good tho
I tried that rice liquor once in shanghai. If you can imagine the combo of 110 octane gasoline and rocket fuel and nitroglycerin. It's really undrinkable. I took a tiny sip and gave the rest to the driver we hired for the day. I think he used it to polish his wheels. 😬
Funky Chicken hahaha, you are so funny
I tried it one night in Taiwan years ago. I've never been so hungover before or since.

Wonderful insight into a great local festival. I remember the bai jiu......like diesel fuel.....terrible but they love it. Thanks for sharing.
Wow how incredible was that. Such a group effort and social event. I’m in awe. Thank you for bringing this to us.

我买了T-shirt,谢谢你带我们去很多普通人一辈子都难得去的地方!加油!
P.S. 你应该也开一家TaiHaoLe中餐厅~哈哈
The best ever video from you. so amazing! As a restaurant professional, I am in awe of those cooking vessels!
how is is possible? every episode is insane and unseen food?
Ed cuz you have to do hundreds of episodes to show all the Chinese food
As a country with 5000 yrs of history, u cannot imagine how many kinds of food we created. TBH, he still miss Lu cuisine and HuaiYang cuisine I think, 2 years of searching for food is simply not enough time for a traveller if u wanna eat every single kind of different food
kokonor c perhaps thousands episodes hahah
actually huaiyang cuisine is more suitable to the normal taste of western people. but he obviously like sichuan food more
Again, watch with delight, this video is full of positive energy. Thanks Trever as always.
