    I've been doing a lot of research and for some reason, I keep coming back to your videos, it's almost as if you're a big Hinderer fan and have made a bunch of really helpful videos. Who knew?!?

    Thanks for the comparison. Pretty sure I'm gonna get a 3 inch or a half track pretty soon here. I have 2 of the 3.5's - a vintage bowie and a skinny slicer. The full thickness bowie is great in jeans but drives me crazy in dress pants or gym shorts. The skinny (with G10 scale) is great in any pants - slim and light enough for even my lightest gym shorts - even chasing dogs around the back yard. If I could only keep one knife, that would be the one.

    Love the video, as always. However, if someone is considering a Hinderer for the first time, go with the 3.5". Much like when you're buying a gun safe, always get the bigger one; you won't regret it.

    My first Hinderer will almost certainly be a 3” Wharnie tri-way, if/when it ever materializes.
    Working finish with orange scale is negotiable. 😉

    I have the 3.5” and the 3”. I only bought the 3” to fund my friend’s trip to blade show but I started carrying it because it’s so much lighter. That same friend now has a skinny 3.5” and I’m convinced it is the best of both worlds. Bigger knife, lighter weight. It’s amazing, and I don’t have one😢. My next hinderer is going to be a project x though.

    I just purchased my first hinderer xm-18 vintage 3.5. I got it yesterday and I'm having a hard time with the lock back sticking. Does this require a break in period or adjustment. My thumb is raw from trying to close the knife. Any suggestions?

  • @Antimonyish
    @Antimonyish 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    3.5" Skinny is where it's at for EDC. The stock thickness, grind and weight are just right. I still love my regular, but much like your Ti scaled Hinderer, it's a safe queen, while I EDC the 3.5" Skinny.

    Your videos convinced me to try Hinderer. I've picked up a Jurassic with the slicer grind and the new XM18 skinny skinner, both from usa made blade. I'm ruined. Everything else, including my Inkosi, has been displaced from my pocket.

    Hey metal..question- is the travel stop on the half track the same size as all travel stops on all the other hinderer models? I can’t find the info online anywhere

    Would have liked to see some size comparisons with the 3 inch. I have a vintage Hinderer xm slippy. I believe it’s the same size and it fits my hand perfect although I do have small hands.

    Complex you absolutely nailed it with this one. I started with knives again like 4 years ago and drooled over a XM-18 but it was a bit out of the $ range. I pulled the trigger last week on my first XM, I got the 3.0 for exactly why you said and your conclusion is spot on wow. Are you sure the hardware on a 3.0 is not 1/16 Allen not T6?

    Hoping to have my 3.5" by May. Wear XL work/rubber/just about ever glove, so 3" just won't work for me, I like 3.25" to just under 4" on most knives, although I do have a couple mini knives as well the Spyderco McBee is one of my favorites and thats under 2" badass wharnie Ti framelock, but couldn't be my primary carry.

    Hello, I just got my new Hinderer XM-18 3” Tri-Way in Black stonewash, what a beautiful knife! Question: how do I get it to flip open smoothly and effortlessly? It has a really stiff detent. I am just kinda amazed it comes from DLT this way with the inspection... How do I adjust this? Do I need to take it apart someway? When I flip it, the blade comes open about half way. Does it need to be sent back - thank you for your help,

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The detents on all (*edit*) *Tri way* XM flippers is very stiff. Make sure your hand is not contacting the lock on the clip side. Sometimes its best to "pre load" the flipper on the xm instead of "light switching" it. The break of the detent should be more than enough to throw the blade if your fingers aren't causing excess pressure to be applied to the lock side. The pivot could also be a tad tight. It can usually be loosened with a penny. If none of this works, you might consider sending it back 👍

    • @dustinhankins2153
      @dustinhankins2153 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have two and both of mine have very light detents. I have the opposite problem. Mine do not deploy fully unless I press the flipper just right or use some wrist.

  • @davidlane6808
    @davidlane6808 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wouldn’t mind having a 3” to go with my 3.5 but the fact that they are the same price makes no sense. You’re getting way less knife with the 3” so it should be priced accordingly. Kinda like large vs small CRK pricing.

  • @braydenmiller8021
    @braydenmiller8021 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ll say it a hundred times more, the 3.5 skinny with a regular titanium scale is the sweet spot.

    • @renorunner12
      @renorunner12 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I keep looking at that. Do you need longer screws to make that work, or do they just not go as far into the Chicago screws? I keep hoping they'll make a skinny ti scale soon - I like the slimness in pocket.

    • @braydenmiller8021
      @braydenmiller8021 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      A used fake Hinderer for $309?... you can get a REAL used Hinderer for that price. Stay away from all fakes. They're nowhere near the real deal when it comes to quality, and we shouldn't be supporting companies that do this sort of thing anyway.

  • @Jrtowns1
    @Jrtowns1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wish the 3 inch was cost adjusted. But for the exact same $425 entry point I’ll take the 3.5 every time. If the 3” was was $350 or $375 I’d be all over it.

    • @Magoot2456
      @Magoot2456 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 1/2" difference is literally a few bucks in materials...it still takes the exact same time and such to make the 3" and 3.5". The prices on these knives aren't due to materials, it's from the quality and precision that goes into these knives...and being made in USA :)

      Mentioned that in the video. It's actually gen 3, but it's too easy to let the term slip when referring to Hinderers 👍
