    The rambling is what makes this channel more enjoyable. It's like talking with friends over beers and good food during the weekend.

    Bought my first Hinderer yesterday. Went with the Skinny DLT 3.5 no choil version that was available for a short time on the site. Looking forward to trying it out. Never felt one in hand so we shall see when it gets here. Excited!!

    Perfect video to watch while flipping my full titanium no choil slicer. 😁

    I just got my XM-18 today after having purchased the ZT 0562CF only 3 weeks ago. They are both fantastic knives but your analogy about the car doors is spot on. The action in my opinion is leaps and bounds better with the XM-18 not to mention the edges and the polishing. I’m actually loving this thing more than my sebenza at the moment and that’s a phrase I never thought I would say about any knife. Sebenza is glass and this thing is ice. Great video and spot on.

    You convinced me to try a Hinderer design, about a week ago I got my zt 0562. After holding it I knew I was screwed. I already ordered my first hinder. Got the 3 inch otherwise the ZT I bought would never get carried 😂. Feeling myself falling down a very slippery slope here...and it's all your fault.

    Yep! I have an 0562 and a 0393 and I STILL want a Hinderer! A lot of M390 out there though which is fine and not a huge deal for me, but I would prefer Amercan steel.

    When the hardness is down a bit, does that not mean that toughness is probably up? If so, “sub-optimal” heat treatment, for hardness/wear resistance, might be “super-optimal” for toughness, and therefore actually produce a better, more balanced steel and blade! What am I overlooking?

    I just purchased this model and the blade is almost as dull as a butter knife. Do you recommend I send it back to Hinderer to sharpen, or have another party sharpen the blade?

    Your channel is awesome.
    I heard you say in another video that Hinderers are released from time to time. I really really want a no choil xm18 3.5” or 3” and I just started shopping Hinderer last week and there are none out there.
    When do you think he might release some more based on your experience? I was thinking in the first few months of 2021 I hope. Maybe around the time of Blade Show?
    You’re the Hinderer Whisperer haha.
    If you have any insight I’d be grateful to hear it.

    Got this based on your dlt vid awhile back and like it quite a bit. Now if I could I get an xm24 with a harpoon blade I think that will be hinderer perfection for me 😊

    Thanks. I’m that guy that wants to give Hinderer a try, but doesn’t want to be disappointed. I handled a Gen 4 in a store once; it was appealing but a bit on the chunky side for me and flipped like crap. Any thoughts on the current 3-inch?

    This one or maybe in the skinny is looking interesting for my work duties. I cut a lot of rags at work and the choil gets in the way and I need at least 3.25” of sharpened blade to cut these large rags into usable rags to use to clean with.

    So damn pricey but sooo good lol.. I love these and I'm noticing that you and I (as well as many others most likely) have similar tastes :D

  • @hydrostaticshock978

    I have one of these from the most recent run. It completely changes the knife. No choil means it has more usable edge than my Fulltrack. Some large knives, like fixed blades, benefit from a choil but its overkill on 99% of folders.

    Why the slicer and not the sheepfoot?

  • @leotam3372
    @leotam3372 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why do you suggest the no choil ? Other than the fact that it's like a nicer 0562? Does it affect the way it cuts and handle?

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The choil on the flipper variants causes an ergonomic "frustration" because it isn't large enough imo. Removing it entirely makes the knife more acceptable for people who are new to hinderer knives. The best versions with a choil are the ones without a flipper tab. Just my opinion.

      If you see a Hinderer that you like I suggest snagging it up because they come in waves, and once they are sold out that's going to be it for a few years most likely...

    Got my first hinderer. Tragically bought the “skinny no choil slicer”. Very disappointed (handle is smaller than standard) And it had some quality issues upon arrival.
    Not sure how to proceed. I guess just sell it and take the L 😭

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What did you think "skinny" meant?

    • @jtheoversprayer
      @jtheoversprayer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@metal_complex 😂 honestly just blade width and overall geometry. Specifically purchased to compare to CRK inkosi.
      The lugs were loose and the scale was sliding around out of the box and blade was ....(ahem) less “slicey” than I expected.
      My only real objective was to have the blade match the inkos so there could be no excuses for which is the better (subjective ) experience out of the box.
      I think the smaller handle (which I failed to notice) and my hand size are not a good overall fit.

    Purchased my XM 18 no-choil based on your video a few week ago. A nice looking, well-build knife, but the action is not great. I asked DLT to look at that for me prior to shipping, yet the detent arrived weak. Disappointed, when my 2015 ZT0562's action blows this thing out of the water, for ~$200 fewer dollars. Sigh.

    • @metal_complex

      You have a dud friend. Return it and get a replacement.

    • @jeffspicoli6088
      @jeffspicoli6088 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Metal Complex what’s the protocol for that? Does it go to DLT 45 days later, which is significantly outside of their 14 day return period (if so, how), or directly to Hinderer? What a pain for a knife that should come rocking out of the gate.

    • @metal_complex
      @metal_complex  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you knew about their return policy window, and went ahead and kept a knife you weren't satisfied with?... I dont know what to say here. This is on you. Ya, the one you have should have been returned. Your opinion of Hinderer knives is based on one that is flawed. Thats unfortunate. 🤷‍♂️
      Check with Hinderer knives directly.

    • @jeffspicoli6088
      @jeffspicoli6088 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Metal Complex there were personal circumstances that prevented me from doing something with the knife, or anything else for that matter, during the return window. You are correct that it’s on me.

    You said Hinderer has more consistency in there parts then any other brand you've ever handled. Does that include CRK? I've got to be honest. I own a Spartan Harsey folder and a CRK inkosi plus a few other high end folders. I recently just got a XM18 skinny slicer in Magnacut steel. when i hold my Crk and my spartan i can feel were the value is, yet this hinderer doesn't really seem like anything special and to be 100% the Hinderer zt i had a few years back felt like it was better constructed then an actual hinderer if mine is any indication of there quality. personally i just don't get it. other then the tri way pivot system I feel like I could get everything this blade offers in a $250 knife. just don't see were my $450 went. or why these damn things are as popular as they seem to be. Although I will say I see more Hinderers for sale on the second hand market then any other knife brand so maybe it is all just hype as it appears many who buy one sell them shortly there after. personally id rather spend my money on a handful of other brands. not to mention i hear rick hinderer is quite the ass-hat, having sent out cease and desist orders to a youtuber that HRC tested his knives and found that they were much softer then advertised. that never sat right with me. someone says something you don't like about there product and you threaten to sue even if the facts prove the youtuber was right.

    Its just too much to spend on a knife. You can get two very nice, high end knives for two different uses for the price of one of these. Looks nice though for sure.

    After watching many of the videos about hinderer and even been on the scene years ago when the 3 brands were all the rage ...I just don’t feel owning a hinderer has that special wow factor to it. I’m trying to psych myself up but it it’s just not working :/ but do keep up the vids maybe one day!!
    Edit: I should prob explain...1) the design in the current market lacks uniqueness and imho does not withstand test of time 2) performance wise it no longer is at the pinnacle of hard use. Sure it is polished but it just needs to be sprinkled with something extra
