Ive been gaming the 790's for a couple of years now and for the time being and my current index ( 8 ) I just cant see going to anything else ,, love the new look of the 790's ,I think Titleist has done an incredible job on the new T series irons. I also think that they where getting tired of trailing in popularity so good on them to put out a great looking "players iron" that will appeal to a larger number of people.

About a month ago I went for a fitting. It came down to P770 T200 & P790. The P770 felt really good & ticked all the boxes for me & honestly I've never liked the feel or sound of the P790. But hands down without a doubt the T200 were Superb. They actually remind me of the Titleist 716cb just a little more forgiving & longer. Needless to say Titleist are currently building my 2022 set & I couldn't be happier. Thanks a lot & Happy Holidays

Thanks Mike. I was looking forward to this comparison. I prefer the shelf appearance of the P790 but I agree with you on the look in the playing position. Things might be different if Taylormade had beveled and polished the back edge of the top line. And I really don't like the naff bit of plastic Titleist have used to hide the tech. That said, while I'm not a big hitter, by any stretch of the imagination, I would forego the extra distance of the P790 for the dispersion of the T200. Those deviation numbers were pretty impressive.

Covid golfer here who caught the bug! Got fitted for some t200s with Amt black s300 shafts, broke 100 on my first round with these for the first time. Tested the p790s also and chose the t200s. Titleist will be the best overall club in terms of dispersion and although the distance will be slightly shorter it will be a better choice because you’re still getting good distance without sacrificing performance like spin and dissent angle

I imagine out doors it won’t be as big a factor since won’t have walls to bounce the sound, but either way, they flew very nicely for me and felt great, which were my top two needs. t200 all day. p790 is chunkier with more offset and less consistency strike to strike. differences in ball speed and launch are mostly due to differences in loft. t200 will blend really well with t100s too, whereas p790 will be tough to combo. titleist has a real winner this year.

Thanks for the great video and comparison!!
I currently use the 2019 P-790’s and I like them, but I’ve always felt I lacked launch.
I know Taylormade are a mid launch iron, vs Titliest or Mizuno being a higher launch.
Anyway, my local club had a Titliest demo day yesterday and I was lucky enough to sneak in and hit the new T-200’s and WOW! What a difference.
I really did not think there would be such a difference in performance.
My launch was off the chart and dispersion was WAY tighter and distances were basically exactly the same.

Cosmetically they both look pretty stunning, from the back view for me the TM looks cleaner, but at address, the Titleist definitely has the edge, with a thinner top line.
If I was in the market for new Irons I would probably go for a Titleist T100S-T200 combo set, When I tried the original P790's I really struggled with getting a decent ball flight, for some reason because of the low spin I was hitting a lot of low spinning knuckle-balls

@@jackjames7348 so I tested my current clubs the 620mb blades on GC quad against the T100 and T200. On bad strikes literally the same area. Same swig speed and all. On my blades It was about a 17 yard drop off. On t100 It was like 15 ish. On the T200 It was about 5….. literally only 5 yard drop off in distance… that’s the difference between being in a bunker or water hazard instead of on the green or rough in a layup. That’s huge…. I had to put my ego aside and go with the T200. The fitting doesn’t lie. On days like last week in my tournament where I shot 68 I can play my blades. But then days like yesterday where I shoot an 8 because of ball striking I’m sure the T200 would of saved me at least 5 shots. So ultimately I know the T200 is better. I’ve never played anything else but blades or CBs. But I’m sure I’ll get used to the look of the clubs very fast and the benefit will be there.

I see alot of comments about the badging on the T200, but I would be equally concerned about the screw in the P790. Has anyone had any issues with those in previous generations? I am typically not a huge TM fan due to quality issues several years back (specifically the R1 driver), but intend to give them another chance and give these P790 a test. Have a hunch I will end up with the T100s though.

I own the 2019 p790 and Titliest AP3. Went back to AP3 this summer. Regarding the screw...honestly, I never noticed it. They are really visually stunning in the bag. I only switched back bc I had my best season with the AP3's...and got a lil nostalgic for them this year. :)

@@chadode9048 good to hear the screw isn’t a problem. i will try them both and to be honest I am a bit of a Titleist loyalist. I really want something with a forged body not just a forged face. I am leaning Apex or T100-s but may end up doing a combo set. We will see.

Thanks for the side-by-side test, as always. What a difference technology makes. My forged blade 7 iron has a 35.5 degree loft versus the 31 degrees of these. But placement of tungsten and shaving grams here to add them there maintains height and spin while the stronger loft adds yards. And on a personal note, the next time they are looking to cast a new Sir James Bond, you should definitely audition. You'd be perfect, height, looks, accent.

On my last fitting I was about to order the TM P790's when the fitter asked me to try the Cobra forged tec X's. Well, that was a complete game changer! Stupidly I picked up a 2nd hand set of the standard cobra forged tec's and instantly regretted it. So back on the market ha!

@@nathanblair8883 I think it's really important to find the right shaft when you're looking at a strong lofted iron like the P790 or the Forged tec x. Finding the right shaft can help a lot with trajectory, spin rate and dispersion gaps in the long irons. I work as a fitter and I would want you to try the T200 in addition to the T300. I'd also be curious to see if you liked the Mizuno 225. The T200 would be a great option if you're looking for something you might be able to "grow into" as you get better at ball striking. If you're not able to practice much then maybe the T300 might be a better fit.

Just to I am currently using my cleveland ta6 irons which a 15+ years old now! On fittings that have all said the data from them is pretty good. I also like the cavity back look, which is probably what drawn me to the T300's. So I want something that provide a worthwhile upgrade. First time watching any of your videos. Thanks TH-cam for the reco. I'd advise hitting 5 more shots with each and then dropping the 5 worst hit shots to get a better comparison. You can still make a note later about consistency, if say the T200's all ~12 shots were close, where as say the P790's had larger extremes on the 5 worst struck shots. Otherwise I love the data driven review.
