I’ve always been Taylor made , was going to get the p790 but ended up liking the t200s more! I liked the feel more and especially how the club looked behind the ball. I like the look over all with the 790s but the finish more on the t200. Titleist ended up winning.
Played Titleist for 30 years, currently using AP2 718’s. Ordered P790 and sold two weeks later. Inconsistent distances and felt like very poor build standard versus Titleist. Weights were all over the place, shorter irons too light to have any control, different serial numbers on each club, felt like TM had cobbled together a set just to ship them. Won’t buy TM again. Titleist clubs have never let me down, all bad shots have been pilot error. May try T100s but likely keep my AP2’s for a while longer yet. Great review as always Andy
Just picked up the p790 this weekend and played my first round with them on my home course. Dropped 5 strokes off my average score. May have just been a good day, but I just felt so much more confidence and playability. Highly recommend!
I had Titleist then went to the Srixon zx5’s. I went to a fitting day to put the 200’s up against my srixons. Tried them and felt good but. Hit the t300’s and out of 20 to 30 shots ball speed the difference between all shots with the 300 was 0.3Mph. Ego went out the window and have no issues benching a forged great looking iron for them. Can’t argue with the performance and results
@@TheAverageGolfer they will be once my t300’s arrive. I understand why some people may question it going to what would be classed a game improvement. But I h the iron I like the feel. I look at the iron I like it and performance was unreal for me and every golfer looks for that something that works for them. I decided to put my ego aside as I just couldn’t deny the performance
Team titleist all the way. Currently playing t100s' and absolutely love them. Bag is scotty, vokeys and titleist hybrids. I do play ping driver as the forgiveness is fantastic. Great video!
Tried last year's 790's and 200's picked up the MC's,sold. They just felt better in hand and look sold me. Mixed bag Titleist driver and 3, volkey wedges + the MC's. Look and feel + performance on course selling points.
I had a iron fitting this past Friday. The iron head that checked all the performance boxes for launch angle, peak height, ball speed, landing angle, feel, looks and forgiveness was the Titleist T200. For some reason the sound did not stand out to me that much as the Titleist TMB 718 irons did. The shaft I was fitted for which I had never tried before and nothing else compared was the Oban CT-115.
What's funny is; I am team both. I have alternated between their brands for years! They both do quality work - I actually just garaged my P790's and brought my AP3's out! Edit - Thanks for doing this comparison. It is really appreciated!
I just got mine off the delivery truck yesterday from Taylormade. I got the P790 fitted and while at my fitting I tried the Pro225, T200 and to me both those felt head heavy compared to the P790. In my younger days I may have gone for the 225. Im reaching 50 next Bday so lighter feels better. Personally I love the look, shape and especially the style of numbers letters on them. But most importantly they hit so nicely. Sound great and give me tons of confidence looking down on them. They sound exactly the same but I am half deaf
I’ve tried a few hollow irons and find them lacking in feel for bump and run and chip shots. The ball just seems to come off the face too hot and distance is difficult to judge. Of course you’re not going to encounter this on the launch monitor.
Hit the p790s for the first time this week. Did not find them chunky like I was lead to believe. They look great and perform better than anything I have seen. I think it would take some time to get use to them if I played them.
Andy, love the simplistic look of the hollow back clubs. Waited 7 weeks for set of MP20 HMBs, and enjoy them. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I would still pick the Mizunos. IMO.
From watching video reviews and seeing them in the store, the P790 is a much better looking club. However, after getting a fitting for a player distance iron, I wound up with the T200s. The look at address is unmatched in the player distance category. Looks like a blade, which is what I prefer, even though it’s mostly done with the way they softened the edge of the top line (I don’t think it’s actually thinner). As for the sound, the T200 did sound a little clicky indoors, but once out on the course, it doesn’t sound clicky. The distinction for me was the feel. The forged face on the T200 felt so much better for me.
Taylormade looks very classy and much more premium, I feel they combo really well with the rest of the P range, it’s weird you say that the p790 sounds clicky but unless it may just be me but by your comparison I would say that the T200 sounded a lot more clicky from this video, from other videos that badge at the back makes an awful and almost cheap plasticky sound when you tap it, your videos are great and really informative! Keep em coming 👍🏼
I am brand agnostic - in my bag I have Callaway woods, Ping hybrids & irons, 2 Mizuno wedges and a Cleveland wedge. Keep looking at changing to Titleist woods but with my favourite fitter I need to book 3 months in advance for fitting as they catch up with lockdown backlog! I had a bad experience with TM manufacturing quality control with my old M1s, lofts were in a couple of irons way out, and lie angles were across the set almost random. Changed to Ping i210s as the swing improved and Ping irons lofts and lie angles were all delivered exactly on spec . Hopefully TM have improved because I love the look of the P790s and when I tried them a couple of years ago I was very impressed - although I think the P770s are even better. As for Titleist I would probably prefer the T100s but very tempted with the T200 for long irons, subject to getting the lofts right
My last 3 sets of irons were Callaways, until recently when I got a club fitting and I came away with the Taylormade P790s.The dispersion was better than any other of clubs I tried and the overall look of the top line was great.
Went to get fitted for new clubs. Went in thinking 790’s would be my choice. Plam taylormade now. But then i hit the Titleist 200’s. Sold and ordered. Better distance, more accurate and consistent for me.
Two years late on this one....and the new T200's have supposedly changed the acoustics of the club.....but from your vid - I hear thwack with the P790 and I hear thwack with the T200... There is almost no difference at all, and I'm wearing headphones to watch the clip. I tried both of these along with the Paradym, the Srixon, the Cobra Forged Tec.....and ended up in the 2023 T200's. I found that I was more consistently finding the centre of the face with the T200's
currently gaming zx5, previously had p790, mp20 hmb, mavrik pro. Zx5 feels great compared to p790, not as long but more consistently flight, distance and stopping power. Feel wise, I wasnt overly impressed by the mp20 hmb, zx5 feels similar but more powerful. Just my subjective feedback.
How would you compare the sound, feel, and performance of the p790 vs PXG Gen4 irons? Based on the size of the club head and performance would the p790 be more comparable to the T, P, or XP irons from PXG? Thanks for the great content! Keep up the great work.
I have just bought the P790 full set of irons plus Hybrid 4,5, but i went into the Golf Shop wanting the Titleist T200, i actually changed after 5 balls strikes of the P790 I liked the Soft Feel of the P790 when you strike, it sounds softer not as stiff as the T200. I get my clubs in 4 weeks, Oh the distance in the air with the 7 iron was circa 160yds I was very impressed, you should round out your test with the Cost per Iron i got a great deal on the P970 after I had chosen them not before.
I think you made a good choice. I actually went to get fit and wanted mainly to try the new p790 and also the popular p770 but both of them were just average in my hands, low ball flight and spin which is my main problem. Carry distance was great but ball was rolling out a long way which is not what I want on approach shots. Tried t200 despite not liking the look of them on all the launch videos but much nicer in person and have me by far best launch, spin and decent angle while maintaining good distance so ordered them. 2 weeks to go until they arrive
Great review...thanks. Personally, I prefer the looks of the TM P790s...the brushed chrome and slightly thicker top line. Not a big fan of the T200 badge on the back - but probably need to see both clubs up close. Thanks again for doing this - will definitely add both to my list of “contenders” 😎⛳️👍
I'm team Taylormade (for irons), but only through happenstance. I do prefer the shelf aesthetics of the P790 and am not a fan of the naff plastic cover the T200 uses to hide the cavity but I prefer the playing position look of the T200. It would all come down to the dispersion. I'm not a big hitter (short, actually) but dispersion is much more important to me as I play on short-ish but very tight courses. That said, I'd probably play the P770 or T100S anyway :)
I own two sets of Miura, 2 sets of PXG and I’ve owned Taylormade P790, P770, and the P7 MC. The P790 were erratic distance wise. The P770 were better but with traditional lofts you lose some distance and the feel on some shots is hard and clicky. The TM MC felt lovely but I lost 14 yds distance on 6 iron vs my PXG gen 3. I’m still looking for a club with minimal offset, forged feel, better distance, good distance control. I’ve never owned any Titleist irons but I’m thinking Titleist T100S blended to T200 and a U505 UT iron.
@@geoffpeirce406 Geoff the Miura irons feel like so much better than anything else. They are pure. They have a tight grain structure and heavy heads. For me 7-W just stunning, no offset, thin top line. But I need a bit more distance in the 4-7 iron range. At some point I’ll blend the chunkier TC 201 model into my set (like Abraham Ancer uses) I doubt I’ll ever sell them. They make all other iron feel like kids clubs.
Uh, do you think the sound might be a little different if you were out 25 feet in the open, (like out on a golf course) instead of inside of an almost closed box. When I played my trumpet in high school, it sounded different in my bedroom than when I was outside on the football field marching with the band.
Hi iv only just started playing I'm a high handicap but hit my irons well not sure what I should get 🤔 do I go for the game improvement like the mizuno hot metal or something like the p790 or p770 or something else I'm lost lol
As you know, I'm very much Team Titleist. Currently AP2/AP3 combo, which is ideal for my purposes. Frankly, I feel a bit short-changed being offered forged-face irons branded as forged. If anything, I'd probably be more interested in trying T100S even if they are not necessarily aimed at my market sector. I'd probably try Mizuno (or PXG or Srixon or Wilson... but not Ping!) before I tried TM.
Great review, played Titleist years ago got ping G20 now but would love to go and get a fitting,in your opinion what would you suggest for a mid/low teens handicap keep up the great work, great course vlogs also
Thanks Andy, I think that a lot of us were waiting for this H2H comparison👍 Borrowing a phrase from Ian @TXG I'm Brand agnostic (unless someone was willing to pay me for playing their clubs that is)lol Both Irons look stunning, sound ok (I'm a deaf owd bugger, so sound isn't that important to me). and they seem to perform pretty similar as well. If I was thinking about choosing either set, it would probably come down to whether I wanted to combo them with the P770 or the T100S. But whatever the choice you would end up with a great set of Irons👍
p770 and t100s are pretty different. 770 is a thicker club with a techy feel. 100s is pretty small and feels more like a forged club. my biggest hesitation in comboing 200 and 100s is pretty dramatic differences in soles.
I’m a Ping player, but given the choice I’d probably go Titleist. However it would depend on the data and what felt best. As for looks, I’m not a big fan of either top line on those irons. Just a tad chunky for my eye
Always been a titleist man , but my m8 gave me a set of maxfli A10 tour preferred irons Dg s300 shafts .. softest club I've ever hit , if you can try a A10 Andy see what you think and so forgiving, I play off 1 and people can keep there new tech irons , great vlog as always m8 👍
Got fit into the P790's yesterday, tried the T100S though not the T200's. T100s didn't perform as well, and also wasn't a fan of the slightly smaller head. I'm a pretty high handicap right now (low 20's quickly dropping, 2nd year golfing) but the P790's were really easy to hit and felt great.
I've played TM and Titleist over the years. I love my current AP2's. But not been a fan of the looks of the T range, they all look a bit chunky and cumbersome at the back. Didn't really like the P790 original, or year after, but these look pretty nice, however, still not as nice as the P770. I might be interested in a P790 4, 5, 6 and P770 7, 8, 9 PW set though!
I wish my level of play could tolerate the T200 irons...I absolutely love the look of them. Sadly I’m just barely in the ballpark of justifying the T300s lol.
I currently have the Srixon ZX5/ZX7 combo set, 4i-Gap wedge. Very good clubs but my swing needed some help with peak height and landing angle. Just couldn’t get height on them. Was fitted this past Friday and wound up with the T200 with a shaft very close to what my Srixon irons have.
Had pings for years but I bought to upgrade.. taylormade p790 2019 obviously two years ago now ... best irons I've ever used handicap is 9 .. just my opinion 🤷
In 2022 is it still a fair comparison of i include the PXG Gen 3 0311? I am debating between the Titleist T200 and the PXG and the decision is difficult. I would love to know your thoughts. Thanks !
@@TheAverageGolfer I'm happy to hear you reply that way. I know you have gamed the gen 3 and that speaks volumes to me that you haven't switched to the Gen 4 or to a different brand for example. Although the 0311 is also a hollow body iron would you say it has the sound and feel or a forged iron, where u mention here that p790 and t200 in your opinion do not ? Thanks !👍
I am looking for some irons to replace my hogan forged cavity backs. Only problem is I can not find any that are as large. Anyone know of a larger forged iron? I am a +1 handicap so don’t really need a distance iron.
For sure team ping! Can’t understand why they haven’t put up something to compete with these two. Had 2019 p790 not for me but that 48 degree gap wedge on the t200 makes them a non option for some reason not even I understand.
Been gaming the Cobra King Forged Tech for a year now and love them. Performance right there with P790 and much less cost. If shopping for players distance irons be sure to give King Forged Tech a try along side T200 and P790.
@@TheAverageGolfer The P7MBs look great, as do the new 790s. I think it's more just the perception I have of their quality. To me, TaylorMade is to Titleist what Hyundai is to Mercedes.
I dont like the play of stronger lofts. They dont hold greens for me. Id rather be shorter with a better land angle amd just deal with the shorter distances.
Haha I was opposite mate. Hated the look of the t200 initially but when I got fitted (tried mizuno 921 forged, p790, p770, forged Tec and more) t200 massively outperformed them all for me in terms of launch angle, spin, decent angle (which I can struggle with) and gave me tightest dispersion so ordered them. Thankfully after seeing them at the fitting the looks did grow on me
Given the price drop of The PXGGEN3 Irons (149 usd) how would you rate the new Taylor made 0790 against the 0311 p’s? Considering if I can figure the irons and shafts the same the PXG’s are significantly cheaper. Inquiring minds would like to know.
I agree with the Sound, that's why I went to PXG 0311 XPs as they are fully forged and sound and feel excellent! I still have my original black P790 2017 irons but play the PXGs now...;) I did a head to head last week and was like wow big difference!
I am a Team Titleist guy for 25 years. I will stick to the MB product. I dont want the tungsten weighted, co-forged, foam filled crap-ola. I could be persuaded to move to Mizuno MP-20. I am not looking for forgiveness in my irons. I want the iron to tell me if I hit a good shot or not. Game improvement is a waste of time. Would Seve play either of these models. (?) NO.
Andy, good review. But hitting off a mat does not show the interaction between the sole of the club and the turf. If you hit these outside maybe you could comment on how the clubs would do on firm or soft turf. Fwiw..I bought the Apex 2021 irons and MD5 Jaws wedges this year. No intent to switch. Not when i shot 70 about 10 days ago. Previous lowest round was 73. I'm 69 and turn 70 in a couple of days. Almost shot my age. A hole out for eagle on a par 4 with a 9 iron helped. 😁🏌️

Great review, played Titleist years ago got ping G20 now but would love to go and get a fitting,in your opinion what would you suggest for a mid/low teens handicap keep up the great work, great course vlogs also
There are so many options, my opinion is always to get custom fit and try as many as possible
Thanks Andy, I think that a lot of us were waiting for this H2H comparison👍
Borrowing a phrase from Ian @TXG I'm Brand agnostic (unless someone was willing to pay me for playing their clubs that is)lol
Both Irons look stunning, sound ok (I'm a deaf owd bugger, so sound isn't that important to me).
and they seem to perform pretty similar as well.
If I was thinking about choosing either set, it would probably come down to whether I wanted to combo them with the P770 or the T100S. But whatever the choice you would end up with a great set of Irons👍
So many good set ups but the P770 combo is a great option
p770 and t100s are pretty different.
Going with some Mizuno tzoid ez comp from a long time ago, feels like butter and doesn't pull
Why try the t100s which is a true players iron, but not the t200 which is in your category?
I've played TM and Titleist over the years. I love my current AP2's. But not been a fan of the looks of the T range, they all look a bit chunky and cumbersome at the back.
Didn't really like the P790 original, or year after, but these look pretty nice, however, still not as nice as the P770.
I might be interested in a P790 4, 5, 6 and P770 7, 8, 9 PW set though!
I like that set up
@@TheAverageGolfer feel like it could be pretty strong! Looks and performance, maybe? 😬
I wish my level of play could tolerate the T200 irons...I absolutely love the look of them. Sadly I’m just barely in the ballpark of justifying the T300s lol.
I'm team Srixon and ready to pick up some ZX5/7s, but am definitely going to get out and try both the new P790s and T200s before I buy.
Wilson CB forged are just as good if not better
Callaway Apex DCB 21 sound lovely forged iron
Had pings for years but I bought to upgrade.. taylormade p790 2019 obviously two years ago now ... best irons I've ever used handicap is 9 .. just my opinion 🤷
Yep great irons
Love both of them, but might go for the p790 s 👍🏻
Interesting point about the sound. Still prefer older cavity-backs (Ping or Mizuno). Maybe sound is the reason?
Try forged?
I am a Japanese forged man, Honma at present, neither of these would sit well with me! I prefer the Titleist brand presence. Good comparison 👍🏻
Cannot beat forged
Your take away with the clubface facing upward is unusual, but hey if it works👍🏾
In 2022 is it still a fair comparison of i include the PXG Gen 3 0311? I am debating between the Titleist T200 and the PXG and the decision is difficult. I would love to know your thoughts. Thanks !
I still have Gen03 in the bag and think they are incredible value right now
@@TheAverageGolfer I'm happy to hear you reply that way. Thanks !👍
How do these compare to the pxg 0211’s that I bought after you reviewed them
Very similar
I feel that PXG is mostly hype that your paying for. Just got the new p790s and couldn’t be more pleased.
Not brand specific but I do have my preorder in for the P790s
Tried the p790 last year just couldn’t get on with them don’t know why and couldn’t put my finger on it just went i500
Buy what suits as always
I play mizuno mp15 iron's so not tm or Titleist team but I do like the look of the p790 for a 4 iron replacement may give it a demo 👍 cheers
Nothing feels like a Mizuno!
I am looking for some irons to replace my hogan forged cavity backs. Only problem is I can not find any that are as large. Anyone know of a larger forged iron? I am a +1 handicap so don’t really need a distance iron.
Titleist are for me!
For sure team ping! Can’t understand why they haven’t put up something to compete with these two. Had 2019 p790 not for me but that 48 degree gap wedge on the t200 makes them a non option for some reason not even I understand.
Maybe there is something on the way......
Ping i59 coming out soon ... hollow body..will compete w these!
That would be great ! Thanks for the best reviews !
Can the new models adjust the angulation?
I really love the taylormade irons - think I might book myself in for a fitting.
The titleist irons are winning all the reviews over taylormade
I’m a Cobra fan. Titleist and Taylor Made are just too expensive
There is a big difference in cost agreed
The go with Srixon
Been gaming the Cobra King Forged Tech for a year now and love them. Performance right there with P790 and much less cost. If shopping for players distance irons be sure to give King Forged Tech a try along side T200 and P790.
Definitely Titleist. I just got back into golf after 10 years or so, and it's hard for me to see TaylorMade as a quality brand.
You dont think the P790's look quality? What about the P7MB's? surely you rate these as quality?
@@TheAverageGolfer The P7MBs look great, as do the new 790s. I think it's more just the perception I have of their quality.
To me, TaylorMade is to Titleist what Hyundai is to Mercedes.
Playing Mizuno irons but looked at Tiltleist before buying the Mizzies
I'm team ping myself.. I've tried titleist in past and have NEVER found them to be much forgiving for me even the models that claim to be
I was Taylor made forever switched to Titleist
I dont like the play of stronger lofts. They dont hold greens for me. Id rather be shorter with a better land angle amd just deal with the shorter distances.
I demoed the p790s and thought they felt really awesome!
Thanks for feedback
tried my mates p790's for 2 weeks when he went on holiday. really liked them just didn't like the difference in front to back yardage. #bomballs
Really? Not something I have seen in many tests on the P790's since first release
So much marketing hype now. NO clubs will fix bad swings. Being "forgiving" is meaningless if you can't hit the ball forwards consistently.
I keep an open mind on testing, initially drawn to those clubs better on the eye . . . that pales compared to testing and performance though
As you should Brian
Haha I was opposite mate. Hated the look of the t200 initially but when I got fitted (tried mizuno 921 forged, p790, p770, forged Tec and more) t200 massively outperformed them all for me in terms of launch angle, spin, decent angle (which I can struggle with) and gave me tightest dispersion so ordered them. Thankfully after seeing them at the fitting the looks did grow on me
Just ordered a blended titleist set 5-6 T200 and T100s from 7i up - looking forward to getting them . . . good looking too !
I must be a club tramp... I've had 718 CBs, New Level 623-Ms and TM P770s in the past 3 to 4 years.
Nice choices
Given the price drop of The PXGGEN3 Irons (149 usd) how would you rate the new Taylor made 0790
against the 0311 p’s? Considering if I can figure the irons and shafts the same the PXG’s are significantly cheaper. Inquiring minds would like to know.
With the stone island crew neck 😮💧
great review
I've had both. Would rather have my ping g710. Better irons and 100% longer and more forgiving.
Great video as usual. Curious what shaft you were hitting. Was it the stock 105 vss s300 ?
For the P790.. sorry if its in video and i missed it. ?
Both irons are gorgeous but a bit pricey, lots of choices out there
Team TM and Team PXG for me ;)
I agree with the Sound, that's why I went to PXG 0311 XPs as they are fully forged and sound and feel excellent! I still have my original black P790 2017 irons but play the PXGs now...;) I did a head to head last week and was like wow big difference!
Srixon all the way.
Team Titleist - no chance of switching.
(?) NO.
Team PXG
Neither one of the can hang with a Mizuno, the JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro out performs both of them and is not as bulky as either one of them
P790’s look a million times better
Switched over COMPLETELY to Titleist. Taylormade is lacking the quality nowadays with their carbonwood scam.
Titleist everyday 😁 but how good would it be if Stone Island did a golf range of clothes 👍🏌♂️⛳
Be nice to see
Andy, good review.
I’ve been playing my best golf with the Generation one P790s. If this third generation has even more forgiveness I’d be all over that.
Is he wearing Stone Island? Lol
🥴Stone Island🥴
PXG all day every day.Period
Pftttt 😂😂😂😂
Never tried them, i have a bag of Titleist, Taylor Made, Callaway, and Cobra. I'm not a brand snob, but I like what I like. Pxg sounds awesome tho, definitely will try them one day!
The music seems out place
