Not possible. The golfer has to be able to figure out how to move naturally to a degree. If they can't do that no amount of instruction will bring their cap down
I have watched Eric for a year now. He was born to be a teacher and educator. The way he teaches and explains things are what a great instructor does. And what he says always makes great sense. If only I have the skill to translate what he teaches to my body’s ability!!
I honestly didn't realize I was taking my driver away too steep, took these tips and my drives improved drastically. I don't fear taking it out of the bag now. Thank you
Finally someone who stresses that there are two different swings for irons and driver. For decades, so many instructors said you shouldnt change your swing for driver and thats just not correct. Great video.
Man Grant I wish that I would have seen this right when it came out a few months ago. I have been trying to swing all of my clubs the same. You have cleared up so much for me.Thank you for your time! Also God is Good.
I’ve been golfing for about 10 months now and after watching this video, I’ve been applying what you talked about with my driver and I’ve been able to start hitting drives with carry distance from 280 to 300. It also helped me make more consistent contact and straighter drives. Love these segments. If there is one thing I would like you to talk about sometime that I don’t ever see people teach on, that would have helped me as a beginner with Irons is how the club head should sit on the ground. I see a lot about ball position and body position. For the longest I was catching the heel of the club on the ground first messing up my shots. Luckily I played with an old timer who broke it down for me.
Love that you acknowledge the swings are different because when I go to lessons I get massively annoyed that they want me to swing irons when my iron game is good. They dont work on hand position or swing plane or anything with the driver and it ends up being waste of money. Side note: the people i have gone to are qualified PGA Tour teachers are very reputable places.
This is great, I’ve always hit my driver like my irons and never could get the loft needed for distance. An instructor at the course was waiting for their next lesson to show up and happened to watch me for a bit then came over which ended up being the same lesson you just went over in this video. Instantly I started hitting 30 - 40 yards farther. It’s crazy how simple this was, it only took about five balls to figure it out.
I've always been a more iron sided player and always have hated the driver because I didn't understand the difference in swings. This was super helpful and I hope I can eventually get it down. Awesome video very informative thanks guys!
Thank you so much for this video Grant!! I am someone who is comfortable with all clubs except the driver.. I end up slicing it.. will certainly practice this tutorial for my driver.
Hey grant, been watching for a few months now. Just hit my first EAGLE driving the green on a 255 yard par 4. Beautiful 10yrd draw rolled 2ft from the pin. Keep watching these videos guys. The tips really work. 😮
Collaborations with other swing gurus is perfect. I’ve watched Eric’s videos since restarting playing golf which has helped immensely. Love Danny Maude also. Keep bringing us Grant Horvat Teaches.
This has been me. I love playing my irons but absolutely dread grabbing a driver. I often think if I could just get off the tee box I would be fine. I know that 95% of my problem is with setup and coming in too steep like an iron. I worked on irons for so long that I’ve neglected the driver, but I’m determined to work it out and I think this video is going to help me tremendously
Thanks Grant! I feel so confident with my irons. When I hit a decent drive I know I’m going to birdie or par. It’s just the driver inconsistency. Im someone who needs to understand how and why to do something to do it. Thanks for the pointers!
Explanation much appreciated! Best TH-cam lesson on this subject I have seen. I am a relatively new golfer who struggles with driver vs. irons. I found your video very helpful. What do you recommend when using the 3 iron or woods vs. the 8 iron. What changes if any as your shafts continue to get longer with the irons or woods? What is the correct way to swing a woods club? Thank you.
Thank you so much for confirming a lot of suspicions that I had about the differences between an iron and a driver swing. I thank so much that I have a green light to really establish these changes.
Great video! I always seem to get stuck with my weight on my trail leg with my irons. I’m going to try to start with a little more weight on that lead leg to see if I can get things shifting in the right direction
I know it's not fancy or anything but the setup is key and something I struggle with. Thanks for explaining the difference. I can tell I'm doing a lot of the things wrong you mention. Thanks for the tips!!
Would love to see this style of video with a 20 handicapper and a full 30 min of really working driver, hybrid, 7 iron, pw. Then check up on him a month or two later and see if he's retained most of that, if his handicap has gotten better, and continue one more set of lessons to really drive it in. It would be great to see what an average golfer can achieve with this level of knowledge 1 on 1 and it relates to probably 90% of your viewership! P.S. - If you do this around Tucson, AZ let me know! I run between a 14 and 18 handicap and consistently have to watch videos, do drills, and put in lots of range work when my iron or driver swing gets off.
Interesting in the presetting the weight to the left side for irons. I’ve always had my swing going from right to left. I’ll try that preset weight when I can!
2:10 I was a player who was good with the driver and not the best with irons. I just couldn’t take a divot. Then one day I completely switched. My iron play was impeccable and my driver was inconsistent.
Hey Grant, I just went to the range after watching this and there is a HUGE difference! I vowed to watch this before every time I play now. One question - should my hybrid/wood swing be more like the iron or driver? Thanks!
This was such a nice, simple tutorial. The weight distribution + the handle placement on the 8i was really a lightbulb-moment for me. Thank you so much! How does the handle placement change when you're going through the different irons up towards 4i? I guess you'd want to do much of the same, and when it comes to woods you'd swing a bit 'flatter'?
New to golf and learning. Question: what if you live in an area that doesn’t have good golf courses and taking a divot leads to a trip to the hospital with a broken wrist? Yes, the fairways are that hard 😢. Thank you 🤘😎
really helpful it makes sense why i and most try to play a wood or driver like an iron in the sense that the swing path is alot steeper and this heavily contributes to the out to in swing path creating the slices. when i swing my irons good i feel the swing alot better and it feels natural theres a bit of a tempo thats easier to time. with the driver and fairways i almost feel like i'm not in control of my swing and cant feel feedback to adjust. i know its my swing path which is opening the face its finding these training aids that will help to train feeling in creating the right type of swing once you can hit a few consistent ones you then learn the feeling. e.g i can hit my 3 iron 138mph and hit 230 easy straight but ill slice or top my driver at 140 . Also there is more pronounced driver head stretch in the sense i need to light the toe up to hit more center.
That baseball practice swing dramatically changed my driver swing when I started using it. If I’m having an issue on the course I do that on the tee box to get back in line
i really feel like eric was trying to emphasise this drill but grant kind of overlooked it. that piece of advice could be huge for someone struggling out there
Great video! The 70/30 weight distribution worked miracles for my swing. Could you tell me what the weight distribution is at the top of your backswing? Is it 50/50 or more on the right foot?
Hey grant I'm having trouble with my hands on the club...for instance one day it feels great and another day my hands are all wrong and I mess up terribly!! Can u do a video on ur hands and where they should be on an iron and driver like for instance the thumbs and how being on one side or the other might affect it! I've learned alot from yours and trotties videos and they've took me down to a 10 handicap where I was at a 20 plus before all the videos I've watched between the 2 or u! Thanks and hope to see one soon cause I need it!
Knowing the differences in swings is what separates a decent golfer and a hacker. When I first started golf I bought a driver and went to the driving range and got decent with the driver, then I got irons and I was horrible, but I practiced with the irons and got decent with them too, I practiced so much with the irons that I forgot some of the things about driving, but I quickly relearned.
Hopefully y’all understand the big difference between both swings after this!
Thanks this helps a lot
Very timely for me. I have just been struggling with this. I can't wait to go out and put the points you made to work. Thank you!
Do you maintain the 70/30 weight distribution during your backswing or just for address position?
Please do a video on the knock down shot. Almost every time I try to choke down on a wedge and flight it in I thin it more often than not
As a new player this is really helpful.
Thanks for having me on Grant---I had a blast. You da man!
I'm a mid to low 80 player and hve been playing 3 years consistently but my follow through looks so bad with chicken arming it. Please help me!
You ever thought about a series of transforming a high handicap golfer into a scratch golfer? If so I volunteer😂
I second this! Please I need help 😭
Im the next one just in cass he wants to do 3! 🤣
I’d like to put my name in this hat 😂

Eric is amazing! Love his channel. Glad to see him as a guest
Cogorno is the man!!! This dude helped my game so much!! I pray the algorithm keeps him hidden from my friends so I can keep cleaning them out
I honestly didn't realize I was taking my driver away too steep, took these tips and my drives improved drastically. I don't fear taking it out of the bag now. Thank you
Great collaboration. I love Eric Cogorno’s teaching channel.

It’s crazy to me that there’s information like this for free to us. Thanks Grant!
Not totally free if you are being brainwashed by ads, but ya, free.
@@40mmmikemikeI wouldn’t really call watching 15 seconds of an ad to just skip and absorb unlimited amounts of knowledge being brainwashed

Watched a lot of videos that have made differences to my swing but this is by far the most improvement I've felt from one- great video

Just started golfing 3 months ago. This video is going to change a lot 💪🏾💪🏾!! Appreciate it fam ✊🏾
Grant, I have been watching you for years and love your swing. How you explain everything is wonderful. Keep up the good work
Would love to hear about wrist hinge during the backswing and also releasing the club head. Great video!
I've always been a more iron sided player and always have hated the driver because I didn't understand the difference in swings. This was super helpful and I hope I can eventually get it down. Awesome video very informative thanks guys!

I'm so glad you've visualised this together with Eric! That lowering the club foot by foot is gonna save me off the tee in the future
This was great. I’ve always known that the driver vs iron swing was different, but you guys did a great job laying it all out at a deeper level.
This is so helpful. Just completely fixed my slice after watching this video
Dude you got Eric bro! That's so badass, on both sides. Eric is a stud man. Love lots of his stuff.
I went from barely driving 200 to 250 carry after this video. Thank you!!
Thanks Grant! I feel so confident with my irons. When I hit a decent drive I know I’m going to birdie or par. It’s just the driver inconsistency. Im someone who needs to understand how and why to do something to do it. Thanks for the pointers!
Just back from the practice- this is a game changer !!! Thanks
I definitely struggle right now with driver consistency where I feel pretty good with irons. Great video!
Can you talk about the importance of staying behind the ball with the driver whilst also moving weight forward and how you find that balance pls
THANK YOU for putting this into easy to understand visuals! Gonna give this a try at the range this week!
Glad you had Eric on. Love his channel. He is an amazing coach.

Been struggling with skying my driver a lot recently, keeping my head back behind the ball has really seemed to help fix it. Cheers Grant 🥂
Great content! A must watch if you’re looking to take your game to the next level.
grateful for this lesson, ive been struggling with driver for so long, hitting it like a iron and unable to close my face causing major slice problems
Grant, my golf game is better because of all that you share with us. Thank you for the time you are putting in!
Good video. Thanks. I missed you guys talk about the different grip though. Pretty crucial to me, if I'm honest.
Been following and learning from Eric from his first video all of those years ago. 👏🥃

Have always struggled with these. Thanks for the explanation. Can’t wait to try this out on the range!
Great info, THANK YOU! I wonder about fairway woods/hybrids. Are they more like irons or driver?
I would say irons because the ball isn't teed up and the attack angle is more down on the ball.
Eric is so good. Golden couple right here. Thanks. 🇬🇧

Didn't even watch it yet and gave it a thumbs up! Lol
Love your good stuff Grant. Any chance of some instruction on how to hit a perfect fairway wood? (3-wood especially)
I needed this. I started working more on my iron shot and saw my driver shot get worse because of it
wow , its amazing how you improved my game off the Tee . simple adjustments
That baseball practice swing dramatically changed my driver swing when I started using it. If I’m having an issue on the course I do that on the tee box to get back in line

Elite video guys!
Love it, how do you determine how high to tee the ball up??
2 legends. 1 video.
Thank you so much Grant. Thats $100 saved
what about long irons? do you swing them around or do you try to hit down with weight shifting to the left?
So does the wrap around drive swing not add to slice problems?
Is there a video that talks about club angle and shoulders when you’re on a hill looking up or on a hill looking down at the pin?
