I’m so glad more people are appreciating Indycar! Everything wrong with Formula One is right in Indycar. More than 1 team can win races, great racing, passing that isn’t just DRS, great tracks, it’s superb.
💯🔥👍watching way more of this and imsa this year as formula is very boring with the two best cars being teammates.

You can divebomb there, but he did it REALLY late. That's what has Dixon upset, and rightly so.
I love Pato, though. Anyone who likes a loose car and isn't afraid to take risks to overtake I tend to like... but sometimes it's a step too far... and yesterday was one of those times. That was a bit too late. Could have been more patient and gotten it done on the main straight.
Ricky Taylor did it the day before in IMSA to past the Porsche for the leading. It worked well.

He ws in the hunt to win in race one and was looking at a top 5 in Texas, couple bad breaks, If not for them he would be in the early Championship hunt. He's seems to be ready to bust through this season for sure.
Another new race winner, another young talent. It is why I love this series. There are so many good drivers and so many possible winners each week.

I've been an F1 fan for 30 years but the past few I've watched more Indycar races. The racing is fantastic.

Explain to me why NASCAR can't just follow Indycars example and not throw late cautions for practically nothing to "make races more exciting"
Bc Nascar loves stopping races even without cautions. I use to be a huge Nascar fan but they found a way to make it unwatchable.
Yeah, cautions attempting to keep certain drivers on the lead lap and now stages so everyone can be happy have tanked Nascar.
My solution is to not watch NASCAR and just watch the more pure IndyCar races.
They're WAY less gimmicky, like NASCAR used to be 25+ years ago.
They want to cater to the casual fans. Unfortunately it is totally unwatchable now. In fact, they need to ditch the stage racing altogether.

What a fucking race by Kirkwood, got caught out by the chaos on the restart, but kept calm and drove his way back to the win

And luck some pretty desperate moves going on out there and Pato O'ward name keeps cropping up. He cut Dixon out of the race, almost did the same to Newgarden but backed fired. When does common sense over rule Aggression when ya taking people out. they should be suspended a race or two.
It's crazy how good he is in Indy, was completely rubbish in F1.

He was never really with a fast team. The only time he was with a semi competitive team was in 2018. He did alright then

Alrgith? He was 6 tenth slower on average in qualifying compared with rookie Leclerc (even more embarrassing when you consider it was Marcus' 4th season in the team) and got massively out-paced and out-classed in the races, both in terms of race-craft and tyre management.
You also maybe want to remember you that he was torn in half by Kobayashi at Catheram i his rookie season and scored 1/3 of the points scored by Nasr (pay driver).
I cant' wrap my head around the fact that Indy allows safety marshalls to go on a track as they do.

Actually, the more I see the Dixon/O'Ward incident, the more I feel like Pato needs a penalty for this. He wasn't even on the track when he wrecked Scott.

Thank you! When Mclaughlin did this to Grosjean and took them both out at least Scott accepted he was in the wrong and went and apologised. OWard fans can't even understand why Dixon got upset about it.
yeah Scott Dixon was slowly making his way towards the front but remained calm while things at times were falling apart around him.Pato O'ward has No regards for anyone, yeah should get a race stand down or something.
I watch all 3 major auto racing sports at present (Indy, NASCAR, and F1). Of them, Indy has to be the best one to watch.
LOL, 3 major. Two of them are minor national series, nothing "major" about them.
@@soisaidtogod4248 the US is the third largest country by both area and population. Just because it's a national racing series, doesn't mean that it's not a major series. Especially when the two US based series have attracted F1 drivers to their fields.
IndyCar and F1 for sure are great but TBH Nascar doesn't attract nearly anyone that doesn't live in the states. It's one of the most stale series i've ever seen lol, it gets boring after like 2 races.
@@soisaidtogod4248 Regardless of what is considered major or minor, his overall thesis is true. Currently, when it comes to open wheel racing, Indycar is providing the tighter fields and the higher quality races, especially on road and street courses (I don't much watch the oval stuff outside of Indy500. )
F1 will always be richer, brighter, shinier and sexier, but that doesn't make the racing better. It will always be more popular world wide. But right now it is just a better television show.
Indy major, YES, Nascar? A very huge NO... major motorsports series are F1-WEC-WRC-MotoGP-Indycar. In that order.
People are right on F1 being more a show than a sport, but when it tackles the right point is just the best, not argue, and WEC having Le mans with a full grid (like this year) is the only one on par with it. Then you get WRC wich is lacking these days, MotoGP that allways is great to watch and Indy wich is great in its classic races like this one and of course Indy 500, but loose some momentum towards the end of the seasons. Then you have other cool series and particular races that are top notch. Mind Dakar, IMSA, DTM (if only ITC type of rules could comeback), Super Formula (seriously underrated), Super GT, GT3 and Formula 2.

It'll never happen in a US sport. The revenue of commercials is too entrenched. It only exists with F1TV because they desperately want to grow the audience there. In a few years, they'll start putting commercials in mid-race.

Yes, Long Beach is one of the big ones. The problem is it's very difficult to pass.

Tried to watch the race live on NBC, but there were SO MANY commercials it was unwatchable!
I'v stopped watching the Indy Car and IMSA races on NBC. You are right. It is unwatchable. Luckily IMSA has full replays on their TH-cam channel here a few days after their race. It is too bad to miss Kirkwood's first win. I latched onto him 3 years ago when he was starting on the Indy ladder and ran unbelievably in his first race in an LMP3 sports car.
Yah it's pretty bad on peacock streaming as well. Way too many ad breaks especially early on (the ads seem to slow down towards the end but still)

@@Tartersauce101 its insane you pay for a streaming service and you still get ads. Streaming services have devolved all the way back around into just being cable TV all over again, but more expensive and worse
Honestly feels like these highlights are the entire coverage shown on NBC just took the ads out. It is absolutely ridiculous. I think Indy would pick up so many fans with the motorsports boom, but it's just painful to watch 3 minutes of action then 5 minutes of commercials.
F1 wishes thier racing was this interesting.

Great race as always. Once again Tim Cindric straight took a massive dump on Newgarden. It made zero sense to come in that early, Kirkwood couldn't pass him and was clearly trying to over cut. It was great to see an American win and his first one at that. Kid is crazy talented, admittedly lacking a lot in his race craft. The entire broadcast they were trying to sell us on a "new pato", maturing and playing the long game. I guess they were trying to convince themselves.

2:59 this comment! Spot on. F1 needs to follow here. The outcome of the contact is a factor in a penalty or no penalty. Sainz got screwed in Australia when he got penalized and yet Alonso got his position back anyway, so his contact with Alonso had absolutely no bearing on the outcome of the race.

I honestly didn't think the Dixon thing was awful. That's one of the biggest passing areas on the track this year, and he was fully alongside at the apex. It was a late move, but seemed like a racing incident to me.

in F1, the Scott Dixon crash would result in a 25 minute pit lane penalty, a loss of 317 points, & a 75 place next-race start penalty. Indy is like, "Meh, let'em race." As it should be.

Good racing, O’Ward needs to settle down a bit if he wants to win on a tight road course like this in the future. Cool to see a brand new winner!
They were supposed to start double file. But Indycar has always been bad at getting line up correctly at Long Beach. A lot has to do with the final corner. It isn't easy getting two cars side by side in the hairpin.
The first few rows were side by side, but because of how close the tight last corner is to the start finish line, they can almost never get all rows side by side to start the race. Just is what it is at Long Beach.
These highlights are so hard to follow like does the editing team watch it before putting it out
