      Thank you for your hard work. I really do hope it pays off with views, likes, and revenue. I think the second half about Gear Project where Game Freak trying to move away from Pokemon is very interesting, so much so that the franchise doesn't take priority at one point? I don't know why some creators keep doing this. George Lucas wanted to move away from Star Wars, Toriyama wanted to move away from DBZ, JK Rowling want to move on from Harry Potter. I know they don't want to be known by one IP, but considering how hard it is to create a successful IP, let alone something like Pokemon (which for the record, is several times more profitable than Harry Potter if you can believe that) if I managed to land 1 successful franchise that I will be known for, for the rest of my life, I don't think I will ever want to move away from it, or try to prove that I'm more than "it". I know Mr. Miyamoto created Donkey Kong, Zelda, Mario and Donkey Kong, Pikmin, F-Zero, but that's god we are talking about here. And even with Nintendo has all those franchises, I doubt there's a time where Zelda and Mario do not take priority.

    Kalos got so shafted by Game Freak. The emphasis on Zygarde, adding more Mega Evolutions for Pokémon in Gens 4 and later, expanding the story of Team Flare, and showing off new areas of Kalos. I loved X and Y and the lack of Z version kills me even today.

    It was so obvious we were supposed to get a Pokémon Z. They had to move the Zygarde stuff to Sun and Moon, very few trainers actually use Mega Evolution, AZ's Floette never got released, just so much about X and Y that screamed "third version incoming" and that third version never came

    • @pleasecallmedaviddjs1298
      @pleasecallmedaviddjs1298 2 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      My guess is that they were probably a bunch of concepts for a Pokémon Z they just never put it together into an actual game. So there was probably a plan for Pokémon Z they just never made Pokémon Z. There is no guarantee that there is a vault that has the whole entire partially finished Pokémon Z just ideas and concepts they had planned for it and decided to just push them aside into other games later.

      Not so obvious. There's very little evidence that GF themselves ever planned such a thing in the first place. The absence of some things aren't alone evidence of a suppossed "Z" version because these things could have been added to X/Y as well.
      *"very few trainers actually use Mega Evolution, "*
      This was done for the sake of the story. In the story it is explained that Megas are a new thing and that not everybody can use them, so no NPC trainer could use them to mantaing the integrity of the story.
      *"AZ's Floette never got released,..."*

    On the topic of mysterious and unused trademarks, I think the real reason behind them isn't because they had any tentative uses for them but because by preemptively filling a trademark they can prevent others from using it, it's only a coincidence that the next Pokémon games is called "Scarlet" while a similar but unrelated trademark was registered +10 years ago and hasn't been claimed by fans
    Another case of that happening was shortly after the reveal of the Hoenn remakes Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire with the trademark "Delta Emerald" suggesting a remake for the third edition (although their internal database show such thing wasn't even considered unlike Pokémon Z)

    • @Shinijou
      @Shinijou 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    • @oldnosoul4183
      @oldnosoul4183 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      I don't agree, other companies might feel it necessary to do something like that but Pokemon doesn't really need to because they own the "Pokemon" trademark itself.
      Regardless of the trademark, no other game could be called "Pokemon Grey" or "Pokemon Z" so trademarking those terms is relatively useless unless they actually had plans to make them. And just releasing a game that has "Grey" or "Z" in its name would matter little if it didn't also have the Pokemon name behind it. The fact that the term "Delta Emerald" was trademarked is itself evidence of a game idea, even if it was only thought of as a possibility (though this might be more likely then we think, given that they had to cut the battle frontier and other important content).
      A good way to test if they just go around trademarking potential games that they have no actual plan on making is to check for a Pokemon Crystal remake trademark right before the release of HeartGold SoulSilver, if they really do this to cover themselves legally then they should have something like that. That or a trademark for a third Sword and Shield game.

      Respectfully disagree that ORAS we're good remakes. They were okay. I had fun with them, but they were unfinished too. As someone who grew up with Emerald, the lack of inclusion of Battle Frontier was a massive disappointment. HGSS set a very high bar for remakes as they included an incredible amount of post game content that went even beyond expectations. They got the Platinum Battle Frontier and the Pokemon Olympic Games type mini game that was pretty entertaining ALONG with the expected Kanto experience. Similarly, the Diamond and Pearl remakes were also pretty mid.

      This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs! If you are not a follower of Messiah I would highly recommend becoming one. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life - Revelation 3:20.
      Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13 over the course of 1260+ years. Revelation 17 confirms that the beast is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God.
      Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc. Have a blessed day!

      Pokemon Brown is already a Gameboy Color game made by Nintendo, but they wanted someone else to take the credit for it instead. I eventually found a statement by them confirming it. I definitely found it somehow being absolutely curious about the concept not even really knowing anything about it all.

      That'd be the logical answer, but judging from the answers officially given in this video, I don't think that idea even passed by their mind.
      When Kyuurem was compared as a potential third member of the YinYang "trio," he acted as if it was baffling to even consider that they'd be related (as adding a third member would apparently ruin the theming -- which is entirely ignorant of wuji, btw, wuji would make it work perfectly).
      I think if they did anything other than B2W2, they wouldn't have made Zekrom or Reshiram related to Kyuurem at all.
      Would it make sense if they didn't do that for Grey? No, no it wouldn't. But from what we've just been told? They wouldn't agree with that.

    Gonna be honest, I kinda doubt the trademarked titles in 2008 were meant to candidates for potential future games. We know Black and White were starting development around that time and the main concept of the games were conflicting concepts, I think it's quite likely they always planned for it to be called Black and White since those colors best represent that concept. Not to mention we've seen Pokémon copyright potential titles simply to have them. Pokémon Diamond and Pearl were technically trademarked in 2002, I doubt they were planned to be used then. They most likely trademarked them so they couldn't be taken by no-official sources, like how the video mentions Pokémon Purple being a fan site. This might even explain why the current games are called _Scarlet and Violet_ instead of _Orange and Purple,_ the latter of which seems much more fitting. It might simply be an issue with copyright.
    As for Pokémon Z, I think that Zygarde receiving a story role in _Sun and Moon_ and AZ's Floette being present in the game's data with updated animations might suggest that _Sun and Moon_ itself was initially planned to be more of a continuation of Kalos. I mean think about it. Not only did the anime's XYZ arc have Zygarde's forms, it also had Ash-Greninja, and what was included in the Demo version of _Sun and Moon?_ Have you ever considered how prominent the previous generation's gimmick, Mega Evolutions, are in the Alola games? My guess is that _Sun and Moon_ were initially planned to be much more ambitious, and was originally meant to provide more of a story-based conclusion to Kalos before it was dialed back.
    And if that is the case, that may explain some of their decisions following this. _Sun and Moon_ have unused walking and running animations for every Pokmon and the _Ultra_ games were seemingly planned to utilize them, so they used it in _Let's Go_ as well as the _Sword & Shield_ Expansion Pass. They also may have decided that having a gimmick from a previous generation was pushing it, hence why Gen 8 lacks any gimmicks from previous generations and why Gen 9 seems to continue that trend.

Maybe they thought it wouldn't be appropriate for the target audience, or maybe they just wanted the extra money from two games but it always seemed like a missed opportunity to me

    Great video! What I'm really interested now is finding more about XY's original story and cut plans. There was a 4chan leak in 2014 that claimed the story would be about Aliens and that Mega Evolution was of Alien original. It also stated Lysandre was an evil version of Sycamore, Team Flare were aliens hiding as humans hunting AZ, who was also an alien.
    It honestly seems very believable since the story and Team Flare seem very undeveloped and why AZ is so old. It's also a major coincidence why Sun and Moon (release 1 year after the leak) was about "aliens" and its confirmed that GameFreak reuse ideas from previous games.
    If you could get some sources similar to the Pokemon Stars video it would be by far your most interesting Pokemon video yet.
    EDIT: would also make sense in Foreshadowing where in BW2 there is a PokeStar Studios plot where there is an alien disguising as a human planning an invasion.

    Also it's important to note that X&Y alludes to Blue being in Alola, as well as the Alola totem artifact cameo in X&Y. I think they knew late development that X2&Y2 was gonna get scrapped, even though they already had an idea for Zygarde's purpose. Everything from King Harmonia / Ghetsis's Relic Crown being 3,000 years old and AZ's weapon occuring "3,000 years" before the events of X&Y communicate to me that Unova, Kalos, and Alola had some kind of cohesion, and because the X&Y sequel got scrapped, it threw off the linearity of Pokemon's lore (hence Hoopa being shoved to ORAS entirely + Diancie and Volcanion being entirely glossed over).
    Paldea and Galar heavily imply links to Unova and Kalos, so I'm pretty sure Gamefreak is caught up with how they wanted X2&Y2 to impact the Pokémon universe. They always allude to future titles in current generations, so it's not farfetched. USUM and LGPE did this with BDSP as well, and DP did this with HGSS. Sun and Moon also has a poster of G-Max Toxtricity. They approach these interviews with such vagueness, but with a fictional world this broad, it's very clear these timelines are planned far in advance.
    X&Y got delayed several times too as it was already confirmed (and you even said this in the video) that BW2 and X&Y were being made around the same time. Unova's final story was being created with Kalos in mind. There's unfinished business there, and I can't wait to see how it all comes together.

    I'm convinced they always meant for Kyurem to tie in with Zekrom and/or Reshiram specifically rather than any other legendaries;
    not only due to its concept/design being like an ingenious representation of the wuji to go along the yin-yang theme of Zekrom/Reshiram, but specifically the fact that already in its weak initial form, it had a tail resembling a plug, where Zekrom and Reshiram had energy sources in the form of a generator and a torch respectively.
    That does not contradict the fact that they didn't have a plan yet on how many forms Kyurem would have and how exactly it would obtain them.

    Apparently Zygarde was meant to be in Black and White. In a leak that resurfaced months ago, it said that there was a green cobra Pokémon. And weirdly enough, the leak was on point apart from the green cobra Pokémon. And looking at Zygarde's typing, it is a Dragon and Ground type, which perfectly fits into the idea of it being the trio master and not Kyurem, as it would be the one Pokémon to restore order, which is its job even in X and Y, as can be seen in the anime.
    But what do you guys think?

      Repent and follow Jesus my friend! Repenting doesn't mean confessing your sins to others, but to stop doing them altogether. Belief in Messiah alone is not enough to get you into heaven - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36). Contemplate how the Roman empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years to accomplish the religion of the Israelites C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate though because you can start a relationship with God and have proof. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life. - Revelation 3:20
      Revelation has been unfolding since Jesus died. The Popes have claimed to be equal to God and set themselves in Jesus' place (antichrist(s)). Vatican City (Which is its own nation BTW) have risen up to fulfill the role of the false prophet
      Regarding the man of lawlessness or antichrist, 2 Thessalonians 2:4 says “Who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sits in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” The restrainer that the Apostle Paul was referring to in 2 Thessalonians was the Western Roman Emperor, who held back the Popes from taking power. Once the last Western Roman Emperor was removed from power in 476 AD, the Pope was given civil and ecclesiastic authority over Rome; healing the deadly head wound of the beast in Revelation 13, as they took the Emperors title of Pontifex Maximus, leader of the church and state.
      “We may according to the fullness of our power, dispose of the law and dispense above the law. Those whom the Pope of Rome doth separate, it is not a man that separates them but God. For the Pope holdeth place on earth, not simply of a man but of the true God.” (Source: “Decretals of Gregory IX,” Book 1, chapter 3.)
      Pope Pius V blasphemed, “The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth.” (Source: Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Cities Petrus Bertanous Chapter XXVII: 218.)
      Pope Leo XIII declared, “We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.” (Source: Pope Leo XIII Encyclical Letter, June 20, 1894)
      The antichrist sea beast of Revelation points to the office of the papacy, the Popes of Rome, who controlled the Roman beast for 1,260 years, from 538-1798 AD.

      This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs! Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36) if you believed in Messiah you would be following His commands as best as you could.

  • @Bombasaur101

    I still think the Gear project was some factor in it, but I still think the major factor was GameFreak was releasing Pokemon games yearly and their developers weren't given enough time to adjust to new resources in the 3D era. Another factor also being that the International release needed to be the the same time as the Japanese version, as it's been stated that localisation has played a part in development decisions.
    It explains why XY and ORAS feel so empty compared to the 2D games and remakes. This is something you still see on modern Pokemon games today with the Sword and Shield Alpha being leaked with majority of the game not even being closed to complete.
    I guess we won't know how much Gear Project impacted, but it does sound to me that the major reason Z was cancelled is they didn't have enough time, which still impacting all their games till this day. Also explains why Little Town Hero had far worse reception than their Gear Project games.

    While X and Y didn't get the full treatment they deserve, they did their primary job of forging the path into the future for the rest of the series. That's why I look forward to the day gen 6 remakes come out. Because then, there will be no more heavy lifting for X and Y to do. They can just be the games they were always meant to be :]

Once they got to HD development, all of a sudden, they had to worry about lighting, physics, antialiasing, big 3d environment, stable fps etc. HD Pokemon games are like putting a tv show on a movie screen. I feel its not GF's fault all the time. There are tidbits of mismanagement in the company, but given the the success of pokemon, the franchise, TCPi pulls every multifaceted string of the series' direction. TPCi expects a new game on a yearly basis starting Gen VI. At first it seems to be a new path with another developer working on BDSP, and GF with PLA. Then suddenly its Gen IX later this year. If the games are bad or rushed, too bad the sales numbers don't lie, and consumers are continuously breathing the anime, manga, trading cards, merchandise and so forth.
      That's what I observed.

    EDIT: I had a feeling I recognized the VA but didn't put it together (or read the title, apparently) until Austin said his own name and it all clicked. Great job!
    With the talk of developer crunch circulating again thanks to SV and the visual performance issues the games have, it was frustrating to hear that crunch culture is what hurt development of "Gray" in the long run. Saying most of the third games are better polished versions of the originals because the crew has enough time to add in those last minute UI and QOL improvements is frustrating, especially when you know that the devs really care about their games and work hard to put out content their fans will enjoy. I hope someday soon TPC understands that crunching Game Freak repeatedly like this isn't good for their games and that they allow larger teams if they're wanting to keep this same 3-year timeline between main titles.
    Also hearing that HGSS and BW had such tiny crews, yet those games came out So Well is so surprising to me. Maybe working with 2D is just easier, but those were really great games for how few people worked on them.
