Really hope gen 9 remakes don't turn out like, uh, like the COUGH COUGH BDSP, ah sorry had some trash in my throat. As I was saying before I started dying, hope the gen 9 remakes are good cause Pokemon Sword was the first Pokemon game I bought with my own money, and was the first main line game I played. So I can't really see that region get disrespected like that.
As a "gen1'er" a while back I went and did a playthrough of all the games since I never played an of them, and funny enough when I hit gen 3 and 4 I wasn't having as much fun and started to think the first two games really were nostalgia but then I hit gen 5 and immediately thought again. Then I played the games after and though gen 6 wasn't horrible, the series started to go back down hill again. I'd say BW, BW2, and HG/SS are objectively the best games.
Fun fact!: Chargestone cave does have a doctor inside it. He’s at the halfway point and will give you free heals once you beat him in a battle. He’s right before you have to battle a bunch of Team Plasma grunts. So Trails’ gripes about no healing in the cave at 54:14 isn’t quite true :3
Really great retrospective on Gen 5. It gave me a new way of viewing professor Juniper- she's significantly younger than previous professors and as a result she's way more hands on. She's different Tho I would like to mention BW2 is more focused on change. For example Hugh (aka Steve) had his perspective changed and challenged throughout in being able to accept that Team Plasma are no longer ALL bad and moves from trying to vilify all of Plasma to standing by the members who have grown. Meanwhile someone like Ghetsis is set in his ways, practically shackled and held back by them. And when that ideology crumbles and he's forced to face reality he falls apart mentally and we don't see him again afterwards.
personally, i never felt like i need to be leveled the same as gym leaders or trainers, being right under them I was strong enough by having a well balanced team and would level up in the actual battle as well, which made me completely surprised as to why you were grinding.
Totally I feel the same way. First he was complaining about level grinding & then he also started moaning about unskippable trainers in the gyms. You might as well fight everyone just to make sure you're on par with levels, especially cuz the gym trainers can't be battled after beating the gym leader.
Different people have different playing styles. I like having my team as strong as possible or learning specific moves which sometimes required over levelling, at least when compared to gym and plasma battles. Not necessarily for Black 2 but I always remember having a Breloom before the 3rd badge on Emerald because I really like using Mach Punch against Magneton and also just resist electric type moves. People will say that just use Marshtomp for the full immunity and STAB against the entire team instead of just Magneton. Sometimes I try different teams and I skip the most usual mons I've used before. When I'm using a new mon I haven't used before and I check its move list sometimes I just feel the need to gain levels over main battles to have an easier time. Not every run needs to be a nuzlocke or challenge run, mons previously unused by myself feels like a challenge enough.
A detail I never noticed about N when I played the game: N will always talk faster than the maximum text speed setting. Cheren isn't kidding when he says he talks too fast.
2:37:02 since you played the sequel first it makes sense, but I remember when i played them growing up, they had the memory link feature which showed more flashbacks and context to more directly tie them together which was really cool and only happened if you had save data from the prior game
wasn't aware it showed flashbacks, I knew it existed, and that it would refer to your character by name when they need to bring them up. But that kinda puzzles me, cause imo flashbacks would make more sense to be in a non-memory linked game, so that way you can understand what the heck is going on in case you didn't play/don't remember the original story
@@trailspokemon thats a good point, it helped me remember what i/my character did cuz it was 2 years, but when you put it that way, it really doesnt make a ton of sense for them to have less flashbacks without a memory link, really well done video btw!
I think Bianca being late in the beginning of the game matches her character, it almost shows how she's one step behind Cheren and the protagonist even at the very beginning
Y’know, with N talking to your Pokémon, having your Pokémon follow you outside of their Pokéball in these games would have been cool, because then could have had N actually looking at your Pokemon. Missed opportunity in my opinion. Although this way does say something about Pokéballs, that Pokémon can communicate through them. So it’s not like you’re completely sealing them away from the outside world.
I was there back in 2009/2010 when people mentioned how they didn't like the legendary Pokemon, including the video games. But I was one of those people who didn't, and man, seeing it do triple battles gave me an idea of doing a 5 on 5, or 6 on 6, or heck two Pokemon teams in a 12 on 12 battle system. Sadly, Gen 5, in both anime and media, was completely tarnished by the March 11th, 2011 Japanese tsunami, earthquake, and nuclear meltdown disaster, that pretty much cancelled not only the special made for the Team Rocket/Rocket Gang versus Team Plasma/Plasma Gang, but the games most likely were toned down and the story isn't dark compared to the first game. So yeah, a March 11th 2012 disaster caused Gen 5's potential to pretty much be shelved; and since then we really haven't gotten a deep personal political connection in the Pokemon world up until Generation 9. But even Gen 9 didn't quite hit the same as Gens 4 and 5. However, by the time the late 2010s came around, and people started liking Gen 5 out of nowhere, I was extremely confused on why people hated Gen 5 in the first place at that time, and then turn around years later to realize they were better than the new game freak games coming out. It's also why Gen 5 was the last generation I really liked, as the franchise was mostly on and off type of IP (much like the other Nintendo games I've looked at as well, and 2010 was the last year I was a Nintendo fan, including the Nintendo Wii and DSi until I pretty much stopped being both a Sony & Nintendo fan. First with Sony in 2006 after the PS2, and Nintendo after the Wii in 2010.)
@@natalimoina Really?? Because I was hyped for those two, and it got cancelled/shelved...Which to be honest, is why Gen 6 pretty much picked it up where Gen 5 left it off...Oh well. Hopefully by the time Pokemon celebrates its 30th/40th anniversary that those episodes can see the light of day, one from 2003/2004, and the other ones from 2011.
Still hate Gen 5. Only pokemon games I never bought or owned. Tried it again a couple years back and it is still boring. Tried b/w and b2/w2 on emulators, can't get past 4th gym. Then again, I don't like most of the current gens for story anyways.
@@Mcspazz731 Interesting. Even I myself never played another pokemon mainline game since Yellow, and another pokemon game again since My Pokemon Ranch so, I can see where you're coming from. I was merely on the anime/movie side of Pokemon when it came to Gens 1, 2, and 5. But it's always the pokmeon creatures themselves and not so much the human characters or the story that I cared very much.
I always loved Gen 5, but after having lived through the controversies & hate bashing this generation received during its prime, I can't help but feel bitter with people now calling it the best gen.
I remember this era too, as I grew up in it. At the time, with only five gens, it was mostly the genwunners that really were the loudest, which I think is outrageous considering the original BW is just an echo of gen one, pretty much a soft reboot of the series. Werster brought this up in a pretty funny clip, where he said the people that hated the games really came down to "where is pikachu? Where is Zubat? Fucking ice cream. Fucking trash bag. Game sucks." It's funny that this is really the criticisms levied at these games, because it's fair, but insane at the same time. Yes the game forces you to use "new" pokemon, but that's what makes it so special for a lot of people, it's a breath of fresh air and an apologetically stark explosion of creativity for the series. A lot of the criticisms come from, ironically, why people think these games are so good now: nostalgia. Pokemon really caters to gen one a lot, Kanto gets a lottttt of love, and I think that Pokemon actually loved Unova so much at the time. Part of it is a crabs in the bucket thing, where fans will drag down the new region to say "they can't make something better than my favorite game," and that attitude being so prevalent in the community today I think ruins the experience of a lot of games now. I don't think that a new game being better takes away from an older game, but that was really what appeared to be the attitude of the time, despite it being basically paradoxical. If the new games are so bad, why do people like them so much?
@@roid1621i liked the idea of Gen 5 but i wish they went in a different direction. i don't miss zubat or geodude, but they replaced them with woobat and roggenrola... they had a huge opportunity to make a game different from gen 1 but just looks like they copied it while making it look a little different. that's why i didn't like gen 5
I feel the same, back then with all the boomers trashing something I knew was great as I defended it time and time again And now so many people saying it's great and had great music, I think it's us, the children from back then that grew with gen 5 now saying "I told you so"
B/W was my first game and I loved it, never understanding the hate it got, it was an amazing game. My only complaint was I couldn't get an Eevee in the first game which is the only one I had for the longest time.
Pokémon white is the only Pokémon game i put 999 hours into. My brain had finally developed enough to understand breeding, EVs, trading, and movesets. That added with all the post game content which was way more than just a battle tower made it my favorite for sure
Amazing! I also love the Undella Town surprise on "that house". And "that" scene in Black2/White2 when you reach old main character house... heartbreaking.
The shortest Gen 5 review out there. As someone whose favourite generation is 5, I really enjoyed this video, I really enjoyed re-experiencing Unova in the sequels and experiencing all of the features the game had when it came out brand new, like the Join Avenue was insane with online connectivity, but I am happy someone has finally said that the story of B/W 2 is simply not at the level of the original. Black and White were the games you went with for the crazy good story, and new Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 were what you played for the features and the Pokémon you were familiar with. But at least they toned down the Rival battles, added the best feature ever added to a Pokémon games - the automatic Repel refreshing. That said, my favourite part of the B/W2 story is the part where Ghetsis straight up tries to murder a kid... Kinda impressed they went that hard with his madness
You learn a lot more about the 7 sages and their characters in the post game of Black and White. There's a whole lot of post game content in both games that builds a lot onto the lore and story!
So there was a rumor I used to read online That route 4 instead of a route is based on ground zero after the September 11 attack, which is why Castelia is such a big populated city, and Nimbasa City is basically a fairground. It’s just me iceberg and Reddit stuff I’ve read, it’s become my head cannon😂
I’m playing this game again on Delta rn. Something about this generation, even without reading most the text, blowing through towns and knowing a good team up front. It feels warm, and friendly. Yes nostalgia, and yes it’s the region based on the country I am most familiar with. But the whole game feels fleshed out. While still at the peak of their 2D graphics. I’m all for the 3D transition they’ve done. But the older games have more of a cozy feel to them. All of them. And Black and White really encapsulated that.
It wasn't the best generation sure but the level disadvantages were LUDICROUS like I beat pokemon white and go to the first post game route and I get challenged by sum dud with a level 65 scyther gulpin and whatnot (mind you you are ususally underleveled against N and Ghetsis both cuz the game is wanky in that regard and have like pokemon at level 50) Helpp!!
Fun fact about the shiny charm in B2W2: You DON'T actually have to catch all the Pokémon in the National Dex to obtain it. You merely need to SEE all of the Pokémon in the Regional Dex. I found out this while filling out my Pokédex in B2 so I could get to the Nature Preserve for the guaranteed shiny Haxorus. I was able to get the Charm while only having about half of the National Pokédex registered as caught, but because of how many Pokémon you see in trainer battles and catching all of the legendary Pokémon available in one game, you only need to trade for either Reshiram or Zekrom to get the charm.
I’m only half way through this video (you finishing the story for Pokémon Black) and I got to say thank you for making this long video! I love gen 5, definitely enjoy you enjoying it, and I never knew some of the things with these games like how to get the amulet coin, and seeing the old cut scenes with the old mythical events
My first game was in Gen 3. But it's the peak of the franchise for me. Probably partly because I personally prefer pixel art for the franchise, it's the last, has many animations as a 2D _pkmn_ and it's 2.5D. I also like the designs, peak designs and color palette. Pretty good story, not ground breaking but not bad either. Edit: Although I guess that's also true for most entry.
It surprises me in retrospect that they removed following pokemon for so long, especially for gen 5 when it was all about free pokemon and your relations with them. I got myself a new copy of b2 recently and I'm excited to experience it again for myself, great video btw!
I'm only an hour into this and I've got to say, great stuff so far. I really enjoy your editing style, along with your commentary and find the custom faces and emotes on the characters hilarious! This one is great - 31:59 - I'm shiny hunting in B2 for Zweilous right now while watching. Cheers and thanks!
54:14 I definitely recall there being a doctor inside Chargestone, but it could've been added in the sequels & not originally present, so I looked up gameplay to confirm if I was remembering right or not & what do you know he does exist in the cave right b4 you've to battle a bunch of grunts. You simply missed him on the way.
@javonbatiste3294 I'd say most of them are fine and did well enough at shaking up the series, even with their faults. I get it, though, it's easier to dunk on things with no elaboration than it is to have reasonable and informed opinions.
@@PhoenicopterusR I mean I haven't played anything past Gen 5 so my opinion isnt that qualified to Talk smack bout the later gens. I think that Gen 6 was still a pretty cool and creative way to make Pokemon. But after that I just lost the connection to Pokemon as a whole. Maybe its due to nostalgia, but I think Pokemon lost its spirit after Gen 5.
@@azphaltx I think I'd chalk that up to a poor transition from the peak gen 5 sprites to gen 6 models that were somehow less alive than 20+ year old Colosseum/Stadium models, and the overly hand-holdy story, tutorial, and mechanics. Gen 6 gave us megas, better trainer customization, and genuinely pulled off 3d style traditional routes; Gen 7 had one of the best regions aesthetically (IMO), regional variants, pokepelago, and got rid of HMs. Now, I don't think all is forgiven just for the positive changes, like I said, they're fine. However, the amount of people who absolutely thrash these games just isn't right (except S/V, and maybe Sw/Sh a bit)
A great analysis. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think Gen 5 is more appreciated once you become a adult and see the deeper meaning behind the plot.
When this game came out, I was 14 years old when it occurred. And considering that I was already into plots akin to horror movies and end of the world scenarios, this was no different as politics was really up the antiques during the 2007-2008 situations. So yeah, while I may have not played the game, the amount of content stuffed into one game, plus the layout of the game (and my personal favorite: While outside of Japan it's called "Unova", I prefer to call it "Isshu" as in "The whole area has too many "Isshu"s to deal with. Ranging from Team Plasma/Plasma gang, to minor incidents here and there in the city. So yeah, I amusingly make a pun out of this region as "Issue/Isshu" instead of calling it "Unova".) But to be honest, it does have one of the saddest songs I've heard of at that time, besides the sad piano & violin music I used to listen to on TH-cam two years prior to this game's release.
@@incw.2601 Yeah...Although when I first saw the name of the region back in 2010, I saw it as a pun of "Issues in the US of A". It made sense political wise, but I didn't think it would actually mean "Unity Through Diversity"....Good to know, sometimes I forget the company went for a different definition than the one I thought of back then.
6:30 It’s actually because all of our moms want us gone so they can have some alone time with Professor Juniper… that’s why Bianca’s dad doesn’t want her to go. He’s intimidated by the towns true alpha
Sadly you didn't connect the prequel with the sequel. You could've unlocked stuff like flashbacks, the Pokémon that N used in the prequels and the fight against Bianca, Cheren and your BW avatar.
I got the elemental monkey before the Cheren fight and I used it to fight at least once in every trainer fight after getting it, and it was level 12 and still managed to take down the leader's monkey with at least half health
Awesome video, I recently just had the itch to replay gen 5 and I feel mostly the same as you, growing up really made me appreciate the story and effort they put in to try and freshen up the formula. Here’s goes my journey for the shiny charm!
3.5 hr grind for the end of BW? Boy that sounds nice. Coming of the miserable grind I've been doing for Emerald its just so nice. The only saving grace for Emerald is once you beat those news guys 255 times they stay there. Which came up sooner than I expected because I didn't check to see how many times I fought them.
For the level curve thing, i wonder if the problem you had at the end of black was because your team was like half mythicals? They usually gain levels way slower than other pokemon
2 of the 3 (then 3 of the 4) were trade boosted so they grew faster than a normal mon would. The main thing is even game freak acknowledged within the game you shouldn't train a full team of 6 pokemon, and if you were training 3 as they suggested, leveling wouldn't be an issue at all beyond the first badge or so
Personally, I enjoyed Pokemon Black, but when I played White 2, I didn't have any fun - I think I stopped playing a little after the Flying Gym. This video was nice to listen to while working though thank you for explaining the story I missed!
A lot of talk about the remakes here. I feel like they’re not coming until 2025, given we’ve only heard news about Legends Z. I don’t think that means they’re skipping Gen 5 remakes, but that they’re taking more time to make them actually good. Of course, they’re still developing Legends Z right now, and that could very well mean they’re also developing a regular Gen 6 remake on top of the Gen 5 ones. This would definitely be the worst case scenario
going with the trend of when remakes happen, it would probably be after gen 10. But the question for gen 5 is, what do they even do? Do they only remake the original? Do they combine the two? Or do they make a completely new story for the Unova region?
Was good to revisit these games in their original context. I have run randomized nuzlockes of these games so often I had almost forgotten the original teams and pacing. Although I'd played since Gen 1, BW & BW2 were the first I'd pored 100s of hours into to get into competitive battling. Every element felt so rewarding and none of the games since really hit the same way. Side note, my Uncle Jimtendo had told me that private server had been taken down so if there's another way to do it, I'd be grateful to know.
If you ever have the chance I would definitely suggest checking it out! I was gifted B2 as a kid and absolutely loved it, still my favorite pkm game to this day. I hope to play B1 sometime but it'll likely be via emulator or a good deal lol
I think it was a deliberate design choice to make you underleveled compared to the gyms. Since the gym leaders don't have many pokemon, it's a way of increasing difficulty
36:41 absolutely agree, it's always slightly bothered me how the desert doesn't fit into the surrounding world. I do love the highway going across it though!
He just likes the choice, he mentions somewhere in here that he would go out of his way to fight them anyway. I prefer the puzzle type gyms where getting through while dodging trainers is the highest form of solving the puzzle, I’m thinking the Gen 3 ice and flying gyms.
@@riplix20 i get that as a prefferance but it just seems contradictory when your choosing to do a slower grind method as well. Trainers reward increased xp compared to wild encounters.
As always when hearing “Gen5 have the best stories of the Pokémon *franchise*”, I go “are ypu sure about that?” LOL. I agree when it comes to main line games. But Pokémon Mystery Dungeon? Very, very good stories. All entries are solid and at least as good as BW(2) Overall very fun video to listen to as I was cleaning the apartment!!
Personally, I played BW2 because it was the latest games that time. and I was just randomly searching some pokemon games in DS emulators. While you rate it BW2 at around 6-7/10. The post game activities for BW2 were such a fun experience for me. The Shiny Haxorus, The White Tree Hollow and its counter part, THE undella house, etc. etc. it is still one of my favorites to this day.
How did you pass by the doctor in the second floor of Chargestone cave? Most routes in BW has a doctor that you can talk to. I abused them during my run, they're really useful.
Remember when people said that the story of B/W was bad mostly cause they were mad about the Pokemon themselves? It was crazy back when the games released
56:00 im pretty sure skyler is talking about Tornadus and other forces of nature cause im pretty sure after this point you can encounter them in the wild but i could be wrong
54:18 There is a doctor at Chargestone Cave, but you might have missed him because he stays in a corner 😅 1:25:40 Ironically enough, BW forces you to capture the Legendary Dragon before fighting N. If you defeat it, the dragon will force you into battle AGAIN.
Do you @trailspokemon know anyone who’s done a video summary playthrough of this quality for Pokemon Platinum? This video was fantastic (I looked through your channel in hopes you made such a review video for Platinum)! 1:33:45
I am so, incredibly glad that there is at least one other person who I can share the experience of Quick Ball - Reshiram with. When the game was new my friends didn't believe me until I showed them.
Sorry for the hefty read, but I remember being in junior high with my best friend playing Black or White. I was so envious because I never played a Pokémon title as a youngster aside from Blue Rescue Team, (best Pokémon game ever, I'll die on this hill.) And it's even more saddening to see just how amazing the story was in retrospect now being 26 and just how much new things the respective Black and White titles brought to the series. The new polished moving sprites, some of the most iconic bangers of the series, the 3D styled cities, and the female mc throwing their Pokémon out, (don't judge me..) I just wish I owned this game when I was younger. It was a different time back then, not just because I could get lost without the stress of being a grownup and everyday responsibilities, but the simple fact that games had more substance and heart put into them. In resolution, growing up sucks, but we're never too old to enjoy a great game, and watching great videos of like-minded individuals. Bravo bro!
I remember my very first time playing at 8 years old, I struggled so much with the first gym I just kept battling wild pokemon until my Oshawott evolved. And the only other pokemon game I had before this was Rangers so I honestly didn’t know they evolved with level up 😭
54:25 there is a doctor inside of charge stone cave, to the right before you fight all of the plasma grunts he will have a lvl 29 klink and will explicitly tell you he will heal your pokemom for you after the battle
It's implied that skyla heals tornados or thunderus since shortly after deleting her gym, a person mentions that they are flying around the region. They're the roamers for this generation.
1:50:20. I dislike the requirement of PokeStar Studios because of the required save. This means you can't replay the rest of the game without overwriting the save file. The rest of PokeStar Studios is actually kinda interesting.
You know i've never really thought about that fact, does kind of make it a bit disappointing that you can't play around with a new save beyond that point if you already have a save file

So Trails’ gripes about no healing in the cave at 54:14 isn’t quite true :3
after all that effort to talk to every npc
Really great retrospective on Gen 5. It gave me a new way of viewing professor Juniper- she's significantly younger than previous professors and as a result she's way more hands on. She's different
Tho I would like to mention BW2 is more focused on change.
GameFreak subtly priming us to accept the large scale changes to the Pokémon franchise starting in gen 6
Incredibly short, I’m ashamed watched it all already.
Bro watched it in 82x speed
honestly i just went to go get a cup of water and the video had already gone to the outro
personally, i never felt like i need to be leveled the same as gym leaders or trainers, being right under them I was strong enough by having a well balanced team and would level up in the actual battle as well, which made me completely surprised as to why you were grinding.
Totally I feel the same way. First he was complaining about level grinding & then he also started moaning about unskippable trainers in the gyms. You might as well fight everyone just to make sure you're on par with levels, especially cuz the gym trainers can't be battled after beating the gym leader.
he just follow is mind telling him that you HAVE to be overlevel to play pokémon, which isn't the case
I think he means it would be nice to have the option. He said he usually fights everyone regardless. I do to but I do appreciate the option
@@lipika2841All while using mythical pokemon, which are strong enough to handle higher level mons and gain exp less than most other pokemon
@@trailspokemon it also adds many of N's pokemon to the wild.
Missed rent this month but at least I got my copy of Pokemon White 2!
Concerning, but cool!
Gen 5 was HATED when it came out. I'm finally playing through them and they're fun for sure
@SuperFlashDriver gen 5 anime was goated though and the cancellation of those episodes was a really good thing (not the disaster though ofc)
I feel the same, back then with all the boomers trashing something I knew was great as I defended it time and time again
And now so many people saying it's great and had great music, I think it's us, the children from back then that grew with gen 5 now saying "I told you so"
I feel like a lot of people praising it nowadays *were* the kids who grew up with it. I mostly feel vindicated bc this was & still is my favorite gen
"That house" 😂😂😂😂
The shortest Gen 5 review out there.
As someone whose favourite generation is 5, I really enjoyed this video, I really enjoyed re-experiencing Unova in the sequels and experiencing all of the features the game had when it came out brand new, like the Join Avenue was insane with online connectivity, but I am happy someone has finally said that the story of B/W 2 is simply not at the level of the original.
Black and White were the games you went with for the crazy good story, and new Pokémon
Black 2 and White 2 were what you played for the features and the Pokémon you were familiar with.
There's a whole lot of post game content in both games that builds a lot onto the lore and story!
been a gen 5 advocate since day 1. glas to see people have come around to it so much!
The absolute disrespect thrown to Oshawott at the beginning hurts my sould
I’m playing this game again on Delta rn. Something about this generation, even without reading most the text, blowing through towns and knowing a good team up front. It feels warm, and friendly. Yes nostalgia, and yes it’s the region based on the country I am most familiar with. But the whole game feels fleshed out. While still at the peak of their 2D graphics. I’m all for the 3D transition they’ve done. But the older games have more of a cozy feel to them. All of them. And Black and White really encapsulated that.
A 3 hour video on Gen 5? Oh how you spoil me
It wasn't the best generation sure but the level disadvantages were LUDICROUS
like I beat pokemon white and go to the first post game route and I get challenged by sum dud with a level 65 scyther gulpin and whatnot (mind you you are ususally underleveled against N and Ghetsis both cuz the game is wanky in that regard and have like pokemon at level 50)
Helpp!!
I didn't realize Riolu was a rare encounter, when I first played white 2 that was the first member I added to my team
It’s 5% I don’t know how he didn’t get one in 45 minutes 1/20 should be easy to find. At the first try you were lucky though
Kukui does the catching tutorial too
Was just about to say this.
Yeah, trails is silly
I'm only an hour into this and I've got to say, great stuff so far. I really enjoy your editing style, along with your commentary and find the custom faces and emotes on the characters hilarious! This one is great - 31:59 - I'm shiny hunting in B2 for Zweilous right now while watching. Cheers and thanks!
gen 5 my beloved...
There should be a doctor in there right before the team plasma battles
there is, he probably just didnt check properly
Gen 5 will always stay in my heart. The last 2D Game and in my opinion it should have stayed that way.
ehh the 3d entries are over-hated, even if the recent ones are varying degrees of underbaked.
Most of the 3D games are trash half assed at that they are hated for a reason especially gen 8 and 9@@PhoenicopterusR
So yeah, I amusingly make a pun out of this region as "Issue/Isshu" instead of calling it "Unova".)
But to be honest, it does have one of the saddest songs I've heard of at that time, besides the sad piano & violin music I used to listen to on TH-cam two years prior to this game's release.
@@SuperFlashDriver Unova is the only region that actually has its own name in every language.
@@Mekudan Yeah, which is why I loved the name "Isshu" in the Japanese language (A pun if you ask me). But that's good to know.
@@SuperFlashDriveriirc Isshu also means unity through diversity, so not only is it a great pun but it goes into the themes as well.
Mf realizing now that N is basically mewtwo from the movie
6:30 It’s actually because all of our moms want us gone so they can have some alone time with Professor Juniper… that’s why Bianca’s dad doesn’t want her to go. He’s intimidated by the towns true alpha
Sadly you didn't connect the prequel with the sequel. You could've unlocked stuff like flashbacks, the Pokémon that N used in the prequels and the fight against Bianca, Cheren and your BW avatar.
Oh boy oh boy it is kinda short
Me with 38372 things to do and ADHD after reading "a short video" and checking the actual length of it: "You son of a Liepard, I'm in"
A whole MOVIE?! HECK YEAH
The main thing is even game freak acknowledged within the game you shouldn't train a full team of 6 pokemon, and if you were training 3 as they suggested, leveling wouldn't be an issue at all beyond the first badge or so
It is not just nostalgia. I love the sprites and such and will be asking for this game and a ds for xmas
The private server hasn't been taken down, but the DNS(?) address has changed! Idk if you figured it it already but just in case you haven't
I remember there’s a theory that Route 4 is some kind of reference to ground zero
my favorite new youtuber just dropped a 3 hours yapping video, i'm happy
3:04 introducing the season, too! that's my fav part of this clip
im newer to pokemon so my nostalgia is gen 6... i can easily say gen 5 is the best gen by a mile. the meloetta event proves this.
If you ever have the chance I would definitely suggest checking it out! I was gifted B2 as a kid and absolutely loved it, still my favorite pkm game to this day. I hope to play B1 sometime but it'll likely be via emulator or a good deal lol
I liked it as a bday present but here u go a comment too, happy bday u are actually top tier pokémon yt
I think it was a deliberate design choice to make you underleveled compared to the gyms. Since the gym leaders don't have many pokemon, it's a way of increasing difficulty
These were the only Pokémon games I owned as a child. These games are the best to ever exist in my opinion
You've got such an interesting take on lore. I would love your take on the leaks more than anybodys tbh.
36:41 absolutely agree, it's always slightly bothered me how the desert doesn't fit into the surrounding world. I do love the highway going across it though!
Saying ghetsis' theme isn't a banguer when his theme is easily the best one out of all villains themes
Short, sweet, and consice. Great video.
i really dont get the complaint of gym leader trainers being mandatory when youre also choosing to grind lol.
Thanks!
No, thank you 💚
Love or hate gen 5, everyone has to at least acknowledge that the team plasma grunt theme slaps.
As always when hearing “Gen5 have the best stories of the Pokémon *franchise*”, I go “are ypu sure about that?” LOL.
I agree when it comes to main line games. But Pokémon Mystery Dungeon? Very, very good stories. All entries are solid and at least as good as BW(2)
Overall very fun video to listen to as I was cleaning the apartment!!
Best story in the main series be fr

You can also use Excadrill innthe dirt spots in the caves if i recall
Personally, I played BW2 because it was the latest games that time. and I was just randomly searching some pokemon games in DS emulators. While you rate it BW2 at around 6-7/10. The post game activities for BW2 were such a fun experience for me. The Shiny Haxorus, The White Tree Hollow and its counter part, THE undella house, etc. etc. it is still one of my favorites to this day.
How did you pass by the doctor in the second floor of Chargestone cave? Most routes in BW has a doctor that you can talk to. I abused them during my run, they're really useful.
They should make a definitive edition. Mega Black and Ultra White.
I really enjoyed this youtube short
Remember when people said that the story of B/W was bad mostly cause they were mad about the Pokemon themselves?
It was crazy back when the games released
56:00 im pretty sure skyler is talking about Tornadus and other forces of nature cause im pretty sure after this point you can encounter them in the wild but i could be wrong
I'm playing through Black and Black 2 myself right now so this video is perfect! 3 hours of Pokemon? Yes please!
54:18
There is a doctor at Chargestone Cave, but you might have missed him because he stays in a corner 😅

Ironically enough, BW forces you to capture the Legendary Dragon before fighting N. If you defeat it, the dragon will force you into battle AGAIN.
Do you @trailspokemon know anyone who’s done a video summary playthrough of this quality for Pokemon Platinum? This video was fantastic (I looked through your channel in hopes you made such a review video for Platinum)! 1:33:45

Oh wait yeah- bianca is 2 years younger than the player isn't she?
Happy now-late birthday, subbed

truly it is a short video, gen 5’s greatness cannot be encapsulated in a measly 2-3 hours
I am so, incredibly glad that there is at least one other person who I can share the experience of Quick Ball - Reshiram with. When the game was new my friends didn't believe me until I showed them.
Probably the “shortest” video on gen 5 i have ever seen but it was well worth the watch
Came for unova content, stayed for the gorgeous man
Sorry for the hefty read, but I remember being in junior high with my best friend playing Black or White.
And the only other pokemon game I had before this was Rangers so I honestly didn’t know they evolved with level up 😭
54:25 there is a doctor inside of charge stone cave, to the right before you fight all of the plasma grunts he will have a lvl 29 klink and will explicitly tell you he will heal your pokemom for you after the battle
i have 132 hrs in white 2 there was so much post game and my friends all played it too. online battles were great and N was so memorable.
1:20:37 would you consider ogerpon a mythical pokemon even if its obtention method is buying a dlc? the design fit with mons like celebi and diante
It's implied that skyla heals tornados or thunderus since shortly after deleting her gym, a person mentions that they are flying around the region. They're the roamers for this generation.
I do find it funny how much he hates the movie section 😂 As a kid I absolutely loved it and was so sad when I finished all the movies
took me half way through the video to realize this was trails and notcie the rowlet shrowd pfp :')
Wake up babe new “short video” just dropped
It's cool how gym leaders go out of their way to stop crime in their cities and they arent just figureheads
At around 09:55 she tells him to slow down because he is talking fast In-game, that is indicated by the text speed of N beeing 3 or Fast even if you have it set on 1 or slow
Finally a short video for my sound checks
My personal favorite generation. Such a freaking gem
