More honey is needed if you want it to last a long time in the refrigerator. I keep mine for up to a year. I actually do half decoction and half raw honey. Yes it is sweet, but we only take about a TBSP and it is also great to add to tea.

I just made this syrup, and it came out spectacularly! So tasty! I'm giving it to friends and family as a stocking stuffer for the holidays. I added an extra step of soaking the herbs in the water for 30 min before simmering on the stove. Thank you for the wonderful information on this channel, watching you is a delight 😊 💗

I've been making elderberry syrup for a few months now but followed online recipes that call for much less berriers 3/4 cup dried berriers. I bought Gladstars book yesterday and as your video recipe uses 2 cups she uses the same. I will use more next batch

Just found your channel and sub’d. Long story short, being diagnosed with ms, I found out how much big pharma is profiting from us being sick. I’ve slowly started to try a more holistic approach. Even my kids will ask for natural remedies over synthetic. Exploring your channel and hoping to learn more. Thank you, for sharing your knowledge. 😊

Oh Grace! Thank you again for such loving and kind words. You and I are true traditional food soul mates! I am so happy to know you! Yes, I can't waste anything. You will laugh when I tell you this - but years ago, when Food Network started, I saw the Rachel Ray show for the first time. She put a bowl on her counter and called it her "garbage bowl". I couldn't handle it and started talking to the TV saying..."you could make a whole meal out of that "garbage"!! LOL!! My parents both lived through the US Depression of the 1930s. They never wasted ANYTHING!! And raised me to do the same. I always joke that they were "Green" before it was trendy! LOL!! I don't even throw out tin cans if I have them. I save them and use them on fruit trees. The shine keeps the birds away from eating the fruit! Have you seen my "Cooking with Scraps" playlist? I think you will enjoy it: th-cam.com/play/PLkRuW3pBo2U0Uc9r7s9UcgkrnRXAM9riz.html Once again, I am SO glad you're here!! Love, Mary

Hi Mary, I made your Elderberry Syrup and also the ice cubes. I never attempted something like this and I have to say it is absolutely delicious! The flavor is fantastic and I’ve been using the ice cubes for tea, adding just a 1/2 tsp of honey, it is wonderful. I shared the syrup and ice cubes with my family and they are very happy with it. One of my sons brought back the empty jar for a refill! I will be making another batch shortly and wanted to let you know how much we all enjoyed this recipe. Thank you for sharing it!

Great idea using the ice cubes! Also, using rosehips and hibiscus which I have on hand. Thank you for your recipe. Do you ever add ginger and cinnamon to your mixture?

Thats a great idea to add hibiscus and rosehips but I would add them to the last 5 or 10 minutes to the boiling elderberries otherwise, I would be reducing thei vitamin C and antioxidant properties significantly. Thanks for the recipe! I will be trying it with that slight variation.

Hi Mary, have you ever considered using whole cloves. Cloves have antibacterial and antiparasitical properties.
I make a drink for my husband made of 3 litres of spring water, 1 cup of chopped ginger, 10 cloves, 5 allspice berries, 1 cup chopped pineapple including the core. I pressure cook for 40 minutes, strain it out while hot and add 2 cups of hibiscus (sorrel) plus raw honey and let steep 30 or more minutes, strain again and sweeten with sugar free blue raspberry water enhancer, then bottle it up.

Omg! I made a batch!! :D so excited. Lol unfortunately I got a summer cold already but this hopefully will help!! Haha also PSA crush rose hips in a bag. I used my mortar and pestle and rosehips have tiny hairs inside. They get on your clothing and then prickle you like an itchy sweater. Another solution could be wear an apron. 😂😅 saving the berry leftovers for my tea party!!

Thank you for making this video! I really enjoyed it and have been wondering how to make elderberry syrup. I didn’t read all of the other comments, but just a thought in case it wasn’t already mentioned …We use frozen strawberries, oranges, and lemons in lieu of ice cubes when we make a large pitcher of lemonade. I think elderberry syrup ice cubes would be amazing in lemonade!

Hi Mary. Wonderful. Wonderful. I googled my zone today and I am a 6 A according to Google. I live in the mighty cold NE PA. I remember an article that I read maybe 1 year ago or so. But this woman and her husband started a lavender farm. I don't know if farm is the right word but that's neat. And I am going to buy some um you know this video. (Sorry since my stroke I forget a lot.) Shoot. Anyway I'm planning on buying some.. I usually write down everything you say. But I've been watching your videos for hours almost 3. So I am saving it so not to have to search. I want to let you know I think you are the sweetest teacher ever. Well it's getting late and I think I'll tune into one more. It's not often I get to relax and enjoy time for myself. Thank you so so very much. Now you take care of yourself and God bless you and your family. 💕

Mary, I made this wonderful syrup with whole rose hips like you did and followed your instructions and it came out beautifully. Today I tried another batch, but instead of whole rose hips, I used the cut and sifted kind, and I got very little syrup, a little over a pint. Last batch was 3 pints. There’s a lot of “mush” in the strainer that I will put into ice cube trays, and freeze but I like the whole rose hips better. If I’m going to go through this process, I want to get as much syrup as I can.

i use an immersion blender before i strain the berries, also you can use the frozen leftover berries to put in kefir water, i also put some in white vinegar to flavor it lol i need a life love your videos one more thing i do haha I put cornstarch at the end and cook it a little to make the syrup thicker.

Hello I loved the video! I pick my own elderberrys and have made my own syrup for years now. Since we can't say "cure" I'll leave it out. Let me tell you what I do. Forage my own elderberrys taking a very long time to remove from the stems. Yes we eat them raw and have had stems left in the berries. The don't hurt. My 11yr old Has eaten plenty. I loved what you put into your mixture I will try! I usually add cloves and lots of ginger. From what I have researched it stays good for 2 months in the fridge. I freeze mine in freezer bags and use when needed. I also freeze my berries and use when ready xoxo keep up the great videos
