Hi Sweet Friends, Today I am sharing a very simple home remedy that my mom used to make whenever anyone got the sniffles. It’s made with 4 SIMPLE INGREDIENTS that are most likely in your pantry and can be ready in minutes. So if you are feeling a little under the weather and didn’t make your elderberry syrup (or can’t find any now) and you don’t have any other tonics like fire cider (which require weeks of steeping), then this is the home remedy for you. And be sure to check the description under the video for the direct link to the printable recipe.
For more great Home Remedies, be sure to check out my playlist that includes an Immune Boosting Mineral Broth (perfect for everyone from Keto to Vegans), How to Make Elderberry Syrup, Rose Hips Syrup, an Anti-Inflammatory Turmeric Golden Milk Spice Mix, a Homemade Herbal Cough Remedy, and More: th-cam.com/play/PLkRuW3pBo2U0-1trDl_zwgtuN7NEn1edy.html (Just remember, no honey for babies/children under the age of 1.)
And if you are making the transition from a processed foods kitchen to a Traditional Foods Kitchen, I have a playlist of some of my videos titled "Mastering the Basics of Traditional Nutrient Dense Foods Cooking". It's a series of 15 detailed videos that covers How to Make Bone Broth, Cultured Dairy, Ferments, Sourdough Starter (my foolproof stater), Sourdough Bread, Soaked and Sprouted Nuts and Beans, and How to Soak and Sprout Grains to Make your own Sprouted Flour at Home. You can watch it here: th-cam.com/play/PLkRuW3pBo2U3b4eu0QraZReKlGzA11h3y.html And please share the playlist with any other folks you think might be interested in learning about these types of things. I’m passionate about the book Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon (of the Weston A Price Foundation) and want to help as many people as I can learn how to make Traditional “Nutrient Dense” Foods.

Hello Mary! I pureed the lemon, garlic and ginger today. It smelled so good, that I rubbed some on chicken breasts, baked them in a covered dish, then served it on top of fried rice! I did put some in ice trays to store for cold and flu remedy. Thanks for the video!

Hi Mary. Thank you for sharing this. I know that in India, they would add a dash of powdered turmeric to the mix although I'm unaware of the specific benefits it brings. But including the pith and rind of the lemon is new to me and I shall certainly try it the next time someone in the family gets the sniffles. The honey of course is mandatory or it's not palatable to me due to the raw garlic. In fact I know of another Mary who once said (or sang) "just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down...". God bless you.

MARY, MARY! I got to thinking since we love this so much, what if I was to marinate a chicken thigh in this mixture overnight? I did add a pinch of black pepper and a lil soy sauce, just sauteed it for awhile and OMG, my husband flipped-it's so delicious. I added some green beans and it was great so now I'm gonna make it again and serve it on a bed of rice. Amazing, thank you so much, We love you, sweet friend! Stay blessed :)

Thank you Mary. I'm definitely going to make this and the elderberry syrup. I am going to make all the broths too, however, it is very hard for me to find all the ingredients where I live in the UK and not all farmers that supply can deliver to my area. I may have to substitute the chicken feet for chicken wings and hope that this will be good enough. God bless you Mary. Thank you for your wonderful videos.

I infuse vegetable oil with garlic to keep the garlic fresh. I use some of the oil and a good shot of hot sauce for colds. The garlic has antibiotic properties and the hot sauce is an expectorant. My 6 year old use to take this before school. This is why he likes spicy food, I guess.
Honey has antibiotic properties, as well. Your recipe is much more sophisticated than mine.

@@MarysNest Thank you! I LOVE your recipes! Was watching your recipe for corned beef for your son's homecoming! I will try it as well. My wife and my father-in-law both were born on St. Patrick's Day. Planning with my son on where to go on March the 17-th to celebrate. Because of the situation with Coronavirus, we may celebrate at home with some of your recipes!

Mary love your segments and I love wholesome foods. Must have a binge day soon and take notes from my iPad. Your detail is superb and I love cooking. During this virus I have cooked up many a goodie as we have sold our house and moved into a small house. Missed my veg and fruit garden but dear friends came to know I cook fresh every day and often drop off root veg or eggs and sometimes fruit and veg and boy it makes my day. Love sharing with friends no need to shop for gifts. Kind regards. 💐🙏

When I was a little girl my dad made a cough syrup from left over communion wine, molasses, and God only knows the other ingredients. I suspected kerosene or motor oil, lol. One thing was for sure, you were afraid to cough. My dad thought if it didn't taste bad or burn it wasn't medicine. Whew!

I would like to thank you for the recipes for making cream cheese and the use of whey in baking and fermentation of grains and breads. I wanted to ask if you could share a video of how to make different eggless frosting of cakes please. I liked the idea of drinking whey for the pure reason of making our stomach problems better. Please show us videos of gluten free cakes with out eggs if possible. Thanks once again for all your help and support by sharing your valuable information on making items of food so easily.

    Dear Mary,
That looks like it's got quite some power! :) And just around the right time! Many thanks for such an easy, attainable yet effective recipe.
Just a question: how old were you as a kid when you took this? =) Is it safe for toddlers as well?
Many, many thanks again and merry holidays! 🎈❤️😇

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Great question. I don’t remember specifically, but I was older than a toddler. When it comes to toddlers, it’s always best to check with your pediatrician or books that specifically address home remedies appropriate for toddlers. What I do remember was my mother having a vaporizer that was made by the Vicks vapo rub company. And it would release steam into my bedroom with the smell of Vicks VapoRub. I was pretty young when she would do that but touch base with your pediatrician to see if you can use a vaporizer when a toddler has a cold. And you may want to ask if it’s safe to use some sort of essential oils instead of the Vicks VapoRub. Love, Mary.

Question, in this recipe can you use fermented lemons and honey fermented garlic? Just wondering if you can sub those for fresh. Also, on the honey, if I fermented garland c in raw honey, could I use the honey from the ferment in the recipe? I'm asking because I have fermented lemons in my fridge for cooking with and I'm fermenting some garlic in honey. I don't catch colds easily, but I'm super susceptible to both forms of strep and my allergies are no joke. I get bronchitis from them fairly regularly since 2005, and in November 2021 I lost my voice for about 2 weeks from my allergies. You mention being in central tx, I'm in Austin. I was born and for the most part raised here. My allergies are a constant thing I've dealt with my whole life and as a child they'd spark up my hereditary asthma. The cedar, elm, mold, and flower pollens are the worst for me. The news here says cedar fever is a load of bs. I'm proof that isn't true. My reaction to cedar is so severe that even if the trees aren't pollinating if I touch them I break out anywhere they touch me. It's not a rash, but bright red blotches. I've had a fever from the cedar pollen a few times in my life when the pollen levels were super bad. The first time I was 8 and it kicked up my asthma too. I was so weak I had to crawl to go to the bathroom or get food or water and the pain from the fever was bad enough to have me screaming both while awake and asleep. I've never been sick like that since, but that is why having remidies is a thing. I am trying to learn to make my own stuff myself because of covid showing me relying on modern convenience is unwise. Learning to produce things myself makes sure my but is covered. Still, I can't find my own way to do things without trial and error or asking questions. The only stupid question is the one not asked
