Hi Brian, Nice Purge the sequel. I have Spandau Ballet Diamond that has the chant number 1. The album I felt was sort of disappointing. I need to give it another try but if not I will probably purge. Although I do not have yet True , parade and through the barricades are the ones to get(at least for me) I showed a Steve Miller that I got for 5 bucks on a video that I made for records I purchased I think in April. Mike (MGK) recommended Children Of The Future. Vinyl purge would be a great vinyl tag. Probably been done already though. Anyway awesome video as always!
I still have three Spandau Ballet records, but the single seemed superfluous to me. A vinyl Purge tag would be really intriguing. Someone should figure it and and get it going!
Last time I purged any of my vinyl in any great quantity was around 2003. We had moved into our first house and I had to downsize my collection ( orders from the wife ). I was in a different music state of mind then and got rid of some lps that were old rock or Prog etc. These same albums are now both very collectible and sot after and rare. I now want them back lol and am paying the price. Some I can not find used in great shape or not at all. Not doing that ever again.
When CDs became I thing, I sold some records. I didn't consider it to be a purge; I just thought I was moving on to the next format. That was a mistake and I do not like to think of the albums I sold! I, too, had to pay to get them back. I'll surrender my records when they pry them from my cold, dead hands.
Hi Brian. I enjoy seeing purge videos - partly to see what embarrassing records people have in their collections (!). Purging is never easy. I suppose you can get rid of duplicate copies, and vinyl that's scratched or otherwise damaged. The difficulty comes when you've paid good money for something and you know you'll never get a fair price if you try selling it ... A lot of the records you showed would be difficult for me to purge. I'd want to keep Roget Daltrey for his Who connection and Clarence Clemmons for the Springsteen connection. I'm not a fan of Elton John's mid-career slump, but I'd want to keep any of his 80s records that were in near-mint condition. I also have a soft spot for Peter Frampton .... I think it often comes down to whether a record fits into the main thrust of your collection. If your collection was mainly classic rock, you'd probably want to keep hold of Daltrey, Clemmons, John and Frampton.
Hi Carl - I do see what you mean about Daltrey (and Clemons, etc). I've had those LPs for a very long time, and I can't recall the last time I played them. I'd keep them if I had the space! I've sold records in the past, and you are quite right about getting a fair price. It's also very consuming to sell them online too. I'll certainly consider you comments. I have a few dups that I need to think about too 🙂

I have a lot more Elton to purge to get down to only the three that you have. Maybe some day I will have the strength to do it. I am very happy, though, to hear your thoughts on Three Dog Night. I will have no regrets letting them go!
I just had a listen to Shine on Through on YT. It's not bad, but I had no memory of ever having heard it before! I was clearly not paying attention when I last heard this record 🙂
Brian, I understand the idea and concept of the purge. I’m having a little trouble understanding why you would bring home empty sleeves without the corresponding records. Am I missing something here? 🤔🤔. I’m sure there is an entirely reasonable explanation, care to enlighten us? Curious minds want to know. Does Cecille know about this unexplained habit of yours? Please let us know the trade in value of these items. Cheers my friend
Hi Jack - Good question. I acquired some empty jackets is some batches or records I was given. The real question is why didn't I get rid of them immediately. Why did I keep them around? The answer is probably deeply psychological and I should probably not do too much investigation on that front 🙂
I'm a little disappointed that Roger got the ax, but I guess I will get over it. I'm going to paraphrase a Lester Bangs review of supposedly the farewell album by The Doobie Brothers in Rolling Stone where he said "Some people like the grittier sound of the Tom Johnston led Doobie Brothers and some people like the Michael McDonald pop sound of the Doobie Brothers. I like them how they are now -- broken up." Three Dog Night did pick out some great songwriters to cover. That first Peter, Paul & Mary album was the second album I ever bought although I no longer have it. Good luck with the purge.
I really hope that Roger will forgive me. That Lester Bangs comment is too perfect! I guess I feel the same way, obviously. I hope I don't change my mind a few years from now 🙃
Part of me wants you to send me all those trashed and unplayable Rush records simply so I can say that I own original Anthems. As a stupid American Rush fanatic I've always wanted them!
Are the duplicates from upgrading and never getting rid of the lesser copy? I regret some of my purges (slight as they are), but I must not have connected with them at the time. Evidently I was less into psych years ago, hence I purged my Strawberry Alarm Clock collection, and H.P. Lovecraft II, and Harumi. Usually I don't have duplicates of the same format, mostly because I don't remember which LPs are beat up.
Some dups were from upgrading, but some were bunches of records that were given to me. The real question is why did it take me so long to get rid of the dups? I sold records when CDs went on the market, something I really regret. I bought most of them back, but it was a stupid mistake!
Hey Brian! I think most of the Daltrey albums are unmemorable. Same can be said for the Elton albums you showed. I took my wife to see the "other" Paul Young when we were dating. Nobody liked "Joy to the World", yet it was a massive hit. All PP&M albums are in great shape because nobody played them....I do not think you should feel guilty about purging anything you showed. Or as John Cougar sang, "It Hurt So Good?

Oddly, no. My childhood records (what's left of them) are in pretty good shape. Most of these I acquired either from people ditching things, or from thrift shops, maybe when I didn't have any copy. The weird thing is that I have had some of these for a very long time, and they were just sitting there. I gave away almost all of my cassettes, and I regret it. Oh Brian that was great, don't want to totally slag off this record but it is rather lame 😅😅😅 the bizzare opener on the Elton covering Chuck Berry. I do wonder is it just stubborn artist or record company said there's no Bernie time for a DISCO album? PWEI Ciccolina was an Italian porn star sad i know and remember that........ I've not done a record fair for about a year so stuff is building up and i need a good clearout it's just alot of effort for sometimes little reward. A clear floor means less chance of tripping and a trip to hospital so well done but don't injure yourself getting rid of them 😅
Sometimes, I wonder what Elton was thinking with that record! Ciccolina - now that is one piece of trivia that I did not know 🙂😳 This was the easy part. The real effort will be dragging the better records to a store. I suppose I will be happy with whatever is offered, if anything 👍
Sometimes a singer's power outreaches their ability to convey emotion and it begins to sound showy and inauthentic. Roger Daltrey, Paul Weller, Kate Bush, and Robert Plant all, in my view, suffer from this. Legitimate purge vibes! I'm beginning to think your buying habits are similar to mine; the cheap bins are hard to ignore, and you occasionally (often? 😇) forget whether you already own a copy. It's why I have so many Chicago LPs. The first Sad Cafe album is good, especially'Black Rose' but they faded fast. I once saw Johnny Clegg live in the U.K. - definitely talented, but not so memorable. "Tim Rice....interesting". Your world-weariness is showing. 😂
I have to say that I now steer away from cheap bins. Generally, the cheap records are cheap for a reason, with some exceptions, I suppose. Lately, I spend more time looking at the expensive stuff displayed on the walls or behind the cash. I have bought records because I forgot I had it. I hate it when that happens. It may mean we have too many records, if that is possible 🙂
First off, your title is unsettling. Eeew, those early records you showed definitely need to go - they are rough. I had that Roger Daltry - I remember Avenging Annie. Don’t listen to Vinyl Richie - keep that Frampton (actually get rid of it, I just want to be contrary to VR). Just get those Elton John albums on cheap CDs. That’s a good Doobies plus the great gatefold. I don’t really like True either but a couple years ago I saw the lead singer and he was really good. Don’t you dare say PP and M is for older people!!! They rule!!!!! Bob is great but PPM have those gorgeous harmonies - you are wrong, sir!!! I love Friend of Mine with Daryl Hannah on backing vocals (over and over, love, you will remember me). I just bought that JLPonty for cheap for the cover art. Are you sure the Sinead cover isn’t slightly different? I have two each with slightly different covers. PS - I just had to listen to Friend of Mine - killer opening - it’s a great song.
Gee, I see what you mean bout the video title! Maybe I am just to young to appreciate PP & M. It's good to be wrong sometimes as long as I remain intelligent. I think there are two original covers of the Sinead record. We got the stern look in Canada, not the laughing face that some others got. I think that laughing face was used for the repressing too.
I love it Brian! We all say to ourselves "Oh, I'll listen to that again soon, so I'll keep it." Stay strong and fight that impulse to put it back on the shelf!
@@EmbryonicRobot Only OTHER PEOPLE (especially partners) think we have too many records. It's usually the case of having too few rooms.
@@davidatkinson-lifematters4826 I'm using that line of argument from now on!
I don’t know how I was lucky to have both. Very strange.
