Sonic Unleashed hasn't gotten a PC port after over a decade of existence. Not all hope is lost, though. Music by @AccelioMusic: open.spotify.com/artist/28JyJ...
Apparently, this game was also supposed to be on PC, but that version was cut. No real reason is known but the best speculation is that the game was too much for that hardware at the time. As for a possible modern port, Sega usually treat those as quick cash-grabs, a bad port for this game could tarnish it's reputation much like what happend to other 3D Sonic games that were given a "remaster" later on.
hopefully the dx12 backend doesn't crash sonic unleashed in future xenia updates, because i reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally want to have a stable experience with it. (vulkan thankfully doesn't cause any crashing, but still has some graphical issues and is generally considered experimental compared to the d3d12 backend.)
PC's not being able to run the game was 100% not the issue. PC's have always been more powerful than consoles and there were games more high end on PC coming out at the time
@@dreamcastdazia4753 yeah I did say this was "speculation" so that may have not been the reason. Though to be fair, it's not surprising to see that this is what people thought because at the time games like GTA IV were on PC but they ran like complete garbage. Granted that port itself was an abomination but still.
@@breezeepeezeewith the Werehog, and Empire city changing Vulkan FBO to FSI in Xenia settings fixes those graphical issues on Canary; it has shader compilation lag the first time, but only the first time. I heard you can pay for a crummy subscription service to play it on a PS5 without any enhancements at the same low framerate and resolution it had on the PS3
No one ever brings this up, but is it possible it has something to do with the voice cast? Far as I've seen Sega has never re-released any of the games with the 4kids voices.
I wouldn't think so but I suppose it's possible. They didn't have any trouble rereleasing the Adventure games though, which also had a different voice cast

It doesn't look bad but when it runs at 15fps then yeah it looks bad when other games look better and run at a solid framerate. its been 12 years no game could that good that takes 12 years of technology for it to play properly that is just poor design. Its not advanced at all and nothing excuses 15fps.
My theory is that they might have licensing issues with the physics engine they used (Havoc) which wasn't an in-house engine so there might be some legal issue if they were to re-release the game without renewing the license. It's still speculation though.
Its kinda not speculation anymore since sonic games that have different engines for physics arent being ported aswell, like sonic heroes/generations etc.

I was surprised the other day when I discovered while browsing 360 games that both this game and 06 got re-listed on the 360 store, I’d heard they got delisted but you’re the first person I’ve seen mention the re-listing. I really hope it does get a PC port someday, though. It was planned for a PC release before Generations but the bad performance lead to it getting cancelled, but it was used as the base for Generations, there’s a bunch of commented out code in Generations related to the lighting and effects from Unleashed that weren’t used in Generations, which are patched back in if you run the Unleashed Project.
It says something about me that I wouldn’t buy a new gen Xbox to play unleashed in 60fps But I would buy a new gen Xbox to play 06 with faster load times

from my understanding on the 4k graphics for unleashed, it does change depending on what screen you play it on but playing it on my monitor (which can do 4k60 but 1080 is cleaner on unleashed for some reason) vs the 4k tv, whenever i play it on the tv it looks like it gets upscaled but as I get closer to the tv the pixels begin to show their age, but the tv does clean up the pixels some for some reason which makes the game look like its upscaled, idk how this works if any tech gurus can lead me in the right direction
i just remembered, I changed settings on my TV to make the pixels look sharper so that may be why but other than that there is no upscale for unleashed
Losing the source code for HE1 would be the best theory. It explains why Hedgehog Engine 2 was half baked in Sonic Forces. Because they had to remake the engine from scratch without the original material. This is probably why Frontiers is more refined aswell
the Xbox series s also runs the 360/original Xbox games with the improvements that the one x received in terms of resolution and fps but in terms of resolution it does not run the game in 4k but in 2k but with the same improvements
