Nah it was just made poorly and not optimized. It is not even revolutionary or technically impressive compared to even other 360 games let alone anything today. It holds up, any game that establishes an artstyle will but ahead of its' time it was not. They just didn't give a damn about the performance and shipped the game.
Believe it or not, Forces is actually a lot faster than Unleashed and Generations, but the sense of speed and level design don't help that speed one bit.
Sonic Unleashed might be the only triple A game sonic team has pulled off in terms of vision for the story, gameplay and graphics quality aside from SA1 and SA2
Except for the final boss. For some reason the PS2/Wii did it better than the Xbox version. (except for the section where you dash to attack tentacles as Super Sonic. That was insanely good.)
The daytime stages in this game are spectacular, its such a shame this game didn’t get the praise it deserved cos of the werehog. If this game had only daytime sonic everyone would have gave this game a 10/10.

I haven't touched this game since first playing it all those years ago, and I am absolutely blown away by how well it still holds up The level design and the music are amazing And oh my Lord. The pure sense of speed and adrenaline this game gives you is second to none, no room for debate Generations comes close, but from the camera work to the motion blur and how powerful Sonic's boosting feels, this is the fastest he's felt, ever
Skyscraper scamper is such an epic level, the level design is immaculate, the wall running looks sick, the robot chase segment the rail grinding sections the alternate pathways, the music is awesome. The only problem is its a on the shorter side, otherwise perfect execution of a 3D sonic level👌 plus as a bonus it only has one 2D section.
I love this game so much. While I don't loathe the Werehog, I much prefer the Daytime Stages. Specifically Windmill Isle and Rooftop Run! I also loved how alive Sonic felt during Daytime Stages. His "Woo!" and "Feeling good!" and the like made him feel more organic and fun to play. Like he was actually alive. You'd have fun seeing Sonic have fun.

Sonic Unleashed is the best Sonic game ever made. No matter how many titles the franchise is going to do in the future, because this concept is impossible to surpass. Even if they make the Unleashed 2 it will be hard for it to beat this masterpiece. At least because of the soundtrack.

@@misterdoctorprofessorpatrick it was uncapped so it could do 60 fps in certain areas thats why i said sometimes and xbox 360 version was capped to 30fps because no one at the time knew how to harness the power of the ps3. the ps3 cpu could be faster then the ps4 and maybe the ps5 at certain times if people knew how to use it correctly.

I never understood all the hate Unleashed got. Sure the Werehog levels felt tedious and the controls were wack, but imo, it was an interesting change of pace. Seriously, until Generations came out, I haven't had so much fun playing a Sonic game since Heroes.
Is it just me who thinks that 60 fps makes Sonic look like he's running slower? Or that at the very his surroundings move past him slower? Not hating on this, this looks really good. But to me, 30 fps made Sonic look like he was running faster somehow (or is that just me?)
The game originally didn't run 60 FPS natively on the PS3/Xbox 360, so that 60 FPS in Series S/X is just a boost that puts an extra frame behind the other frame that was already there, so it gives the feeling that Sonic is not running as fast as he does at 30 FPS. I'm not an expert on this subject and this is just my guess based on my basic knowledge of this subject, so it's most likely wrong.
This might have been the first 3d sonic that made going fast feel desirable, like, even if I knew I was going to miss all the sun coins or whatever I still wanted to go fast
The fact that this game got way worse reviews than Frontiers absolutely baffles me. There's nothing wrong with liking Frontiers, but I really feel like that shows how our expectations have gotten worse. The voice acting, feeling of speed, overall polish, etc is so much worse in Frontiers. Frontiers was still a fun experience for me to play through, but I truly feel like no Sonic game has topped this one since its release. If we could get the quality of Unleashed, Jason as a voice actor back, and an improved version of Frontier's fighting/open world/super sonic, it would be astounding.
I honestly loved Unleashed as a whole!!!! That’s what it means to be a true Sonic fan!!! His werehog form is the only version of Sonic that truly packs a punch because how is it that in the beginning Super Sonic lost to the Egg Dragoon prototype 1 while Werehog dawg walks the enhanced prototype 2 version?! Of course werehog isn’t going to be speedy because duh that’s what the day form is for

Idk if you knew this or not, but you can use an emulator to play unleashed on pc. The only downsides are that it’s kinda complicated to set up and it runs choppy at times.
or you can use the unleashed project mod if you were able to nab sonic generations before it got removed from steam, lets you play all the day stages with BASICALLY the same level design and visuals

Definitely NOT the only reason. Microsoft is far more embracing of general game preservation as exemplified through FPS Boost and HDR even existing as enhancements for 8th and 7th gen (and even some 6th gen) titles. You definitely don’t see Sony or Nintendo intentionally supporting backwards compatibility to this degree, much less anything even partially resembling it in practice. Definitely a major pro-consumer move, even if not ALL titles couldn’t feasibly be implemented.

Edit: (oh and no drop shadow below Sonic, that is also very misleading) Second Edit: If there's also another thing I could change about Unleashed is to speed up Werehog attacks JUST slightly, to help get rid of that "tanky and sluggish" feeling to the combat

Many people don’t like the night sections with the werehog, because they stand out from the general dynamics of the 'Sonic' game. However, to me personally, these stages seem quite good. Excellent move animations, different skills and bosses - all this breaks up the game well.

all it took to unlock that power was 60 fps 1080p
It was so graphicly powerful that we had to wait over a decade for a console that could run it well with it amazing visuals
