Another small tipp for nailing the sword jump is simply looking to the ground while charging. So when your sword hits the ground with sparks it's your queue to jump. Also looks sparkier :)

Me: "What? Give up my sword lunge, give up my mobility, give up blocking, and have to reload?! Why dont you just cut off my legs while youre at it... Oh you cant! YOU DONT HAVE A SWORD!"

Its also about ease of use.
Mastering the sword is hard but better once you do.
Double gunning has very lil to master and anyone can do it.
So initially it seems stronger, long run it ain't.

It’s a community of thieving pirates.
You forgot to mention the 1 sword mechanic that 95% of all pirates don't even know exists! The running sword slash! Simply block+move+tap attack to give your normal combo attack additional reach, range, and speed. It's great for flanking opponents and bypassing their block.
I just asked this questions above. Do you happen to have a video tutorial that I could watch that explains this movement?
@@designdeity4425 Sadly, no. But it's pretty straightforward - barely noticeable, it will kind of look like you're ice-skating, or sliding, as you swing your sword. It provides a minor speed boost and additional reach to what is otherwise a standard attack. It primarily makes up for the slowdown of movement when blocking, but can be used as a feint, riposte, or to more easily get around your opponent's own block. Furthermore, there's no cooldown besides the block itself, so you can repeatedly use it with single strikes by repeating it, or even combo into it (although your 2nd and 3rd strikes will be at normal speed and reach). Have fun! 😉
So if i attack in a sword dodge jump i achieve this?
@collinkaufman2316 This is not the sword dodge. It's similar in terms of input, but you're tapping the attack input instead of the jump input. This is essentially a normal attack, but with the slight advantages already listed above.

I keep the sword for quick movement through water and because I always forget to get ammo and often run out.

Thanks for this video! I’ve been trying to practice the sword for a few weeks now, and this really helps! I saw my crew mates doing the jump lunge, and that was the one I’ve been really struggling with, so thanks for the tips and tricks!

For doing the jumping lunge, an easier way to learn, is to look down before u lunge. As soon as u hear the noise of the sword hitting the ground, jump
Be careful, since you use the sword you are now the worst player ever in the eyes of salty double gunners
But salty double gunners aren’t prepared for the double sword lunge, and the block jump trick!
I personally love the lunge/spam combo. You can't do anything against it

Always carry a sword with you at all times because of sword dashing, close combat/blocking, and it never gets depleted like running out of ammo for guns, and you only need 1 gun, not 2

@Hitbotc , Since the latest patch, damage has changed, you probably should edit the sword damage in this video. Sword slashes now take away 20% of a players health while sword Lunge takes 50%. Other than that, I like you video.

This is brilliant. Here's a follow up question to this sweetorial: on Twitch you often walk or run forward and then lunge, or jump forward and then lunge. Is there a specific trick to doing this? I can't make it work. I have to be stationary in order to sword lunge. Thanks, Pirate Lord.

i got some kind of mega lunge last night.. fired myself of a high angle from a cannon and charged lunge right before i hit water and it launched me super far for somreason... bug?

Is there any good way to practice purely guns/sword pvp. For example I can shoot cannons really well but am not great at sword/gun pvp
Sounds obvious but arena is really good practice just solo galleon arena and just board people
i just hate the vortex mechanic and hit cancelling. You should be able to stand in front of someone and evenly trade in a game where trading shots is paramount mechanic.

of course there is a difference on sword combat on PC vs. Xbox One... i find that playing on Xbox one Sea of Thieves has a slight delay to it... a oppose to playing it on PC... it may help if you have the game on a SSD external Hard Drive... if Playing it on Xbox One
you realize that an ssd will only make the loading screens faster, and that once the game is in memory and being played it is no longer much use
I believe the reason people dislike double gun is because they have some form of ptsd from how double gun use to be at release. It’s no longer op and how can you tell if a weapon/s are OP, when any player at any skill level can use it with ease at any moment. A lot of people say it’s easy to double gun but have never actually tried it against any skilful player because there are so few in the game. The sword however I’ve hardly even used since the hungering deep and I can equip it and wipe gallys easily. Am I saying the sword is op...no, I think sword combat needs re working a little that’s it. All in all all weapons (except the blunderbuss) is only as good as it’s user
I don’t know if this is correct, but sometimes I feel like if people are spamming me with their cutlass, I am not able to block them with my own. It feels like I have to avoid getting hit for a second and then I am able to start blocking their hits.
So... why can't we be filthy two-sworders? Faster attacks, double lunge? I wanna see this in the game.

I wish the sword wasn't so broken. when I use it and block I still get slashed and when I attack 1st people can interrupt my combo and then they win. This is why I switched to double gun in arena
I used to think the same thing, but I am not entirely convinced anymore. The more I play I've noticed you literally need to have the center of your screen lined up with the direction of attack when blocking an enemy player that's spam slashing with their mouse and jumping around nose to nose in circles like some fortenite sweatlord with a purple shotgun.

hey man ive been watching you for a while now. i bought this game 2 months before it came to steam. and bought it there once again for the achievements. the only problem with steam is the compass gets stuck on North. if you have any influence could you adress this to them? ive posted it on the forum before but no answers or anything. ( they might not know how its happening maybe thats why they dont answer because they want to find the problem first ) but i thought just dropping it in here aswell.
Have you tried verifying your game files through steam? I had the same issue and it hasn't happened since.
@@samsonb3337 i think they fixed it. I had a update awhile ago. Tried it last night on steam and no problems so far. I like steam version better because on the windows store version i click out of the game alot of times. But steam version is locked fullscreen ( thank god )
the timing needed to jump while sword lunging isn't that specific, just while you have increased speed
things i learned: Bunny hopping, Jumping through players with the block, back to back sword lunge technique

Fare enough if you use the sword some people just can’t aim as well as others
but I think we can agree double gun takes more skill at the end of the day
so just don’t use the sword and tell people they suck when you kill them if you can’t do the cancel lock down trick
