I think a valuable datapoint missed in the video would be: with the double barrel, the difference in time to kill if you fire once, reload the one bullet, then use a charged attack, instead of using the charged attack first, double reloading, then firing once - since the reload is longer when reloading both barrels. I'm not sure this would meaningfully change anything about its placement in the rankings of all weapons, though. Additionally, I think the conclusion that effectively nothing has changed with the meta is good for the game, old guides from before the new weapons were added are still good advice, despite lacking situational data, and returning players won't be too shaken off from what they know. Run sword and knives, become a ninja pirate as God and Anime intend.
One thing also i actually figured out tonight is if you fire the double barrel sprint it cancels the load animation for the second shot, allowing for an instant shot. There is also a very wonky yet inconsistent animation cancel for reloading both shots yet the animation for the reload only shows one. Things I’ve noticed when testing with double barrel eye of reach.
Reminder: use what you have fun with! Sure, you may lose fights, but at the end of the day, it’s a game and you can play however you like. Don’t let other pirates wear you down.

As a singular weapon it's probably the most versatile, having a place at all but long ranges. However, since you can equip two weapons it becomes less strong.
Having a table or something to show the times to kill or just having them on the screen would help a lot. It's kind of hard to follow with you just saying the numbers with no immediate comparison
Update - 10/7/2024 damage has been upped on some of the weapons. The double barrel does 45 per shot equaling 90 charged, flintlock is 55 per shot. You can shoot once with double barrel and land one flintlock shot and they are dead. I’ve been using this load out and it’s a lot of fun
I loved to rock the Eye of Reach + Cutlass but i always loved Pistols too but never felt they matched the Sword but now i can go Pistol + Knife for some fun and variety!

I really think the man reason for that is the fact that it has quite literally no strengths. Why is 2 barrels even attractive if you still have to swap to kill someone. Should have made it more of a counter to the blunder imo, bc literally nothing counters that gun, and nothing has ever. Due to the fact that nobody runs it with a melee. And it sucks that rare most likely intends to keep it like this.

There is no debate raging out on the seas, it is established that the fastest TTK weapons are what people use and that is Eye of Reach + Blunderbuss, it's not a mystery--it's because they deal the most damage per shot. Stop this whinging and coping, there should have never been the ability to 1 shot players in a PvP game. The only exception is if they can implement a stealth buff or headshot buff that applies to ALL weapons not just ONE.
Seems like with the new buff to DB, EoR + DB might become a viable option. 2 shots to kill with an extra shot in case you miss, and the double shot from the DB does 90% now so if they're on fire or something it's a high chance of a 1 shot.
I am pretty accurate with the throwing knives and they are so fun but for actual PvP I prefer the blunderbuss unfortunately as it’s too efficient to pass up in my opinion.
I haven't watched the video and I can telll you it's the blunder bass is newbie friendly they can do mistakes and still not get punished and I'm not talking for the new players that doesn't understand the shotgun mechanics if they blunder snipe you that not the ppl I'm talking about , this thing has knock back and can one shot you or leave you with 20 health difficult to miss when they can still hit your shadow and get destroyed by it just op
It is important to note though that most pve enemies still die from 1 bullet from both the double barrel pistol and the normal pistol, and its. increased ammo capacity and not really reload time between the first and second shot makes it a good bet for taking out things like skeletons and phantoms. Personally, I like using the double barrel when I'm doing quests on islands, and switching to the single barrel when I encounter other crews.

Additional obvious but situationally significant point - the sword and knives are capable of hitting multiple targets with a single attack so are **technically** able to deal extra damage in those incredibly rare cases
Pistol was aways a underrated, 50 damage are just amazing, eyes of the reach is not simple to aim always the time, pistols are almost 80% hit chances even on "jump conditions"
not sure why the precharge for the pistol isn't being talked about. its absolutely terrible by itself, but when paired with a favored weapon of your choice, precharging+double gunning becomes much more potent. sometime in the future, there's 100% gonna be a meta-shift involved double gunning w this weapon. Maybe not a meta defining shift, but a shift nonetheless.
so far i had several times when using the double barrel pistol where i skipped the charge animation and still shot both shots more or less consistently like 3/5 times when it skipped the animation. got no clue what does making the animation skip possible but when someone finds a way to skip it every time it could be the new tryhard double gun weapon
@@jonholla6463 Rapiers and Heavy Swords can be made their own weapons, Boarding Axes, gun belt with 5 pistols, regular grenades' (we have 2 variants but not a regular), Duck's Foot (4 barreled pistol), Picks or Axes, we don't even have a proper club! We can even do two handed weapons, like larger swords or axes, how about a proper musket sense the one we got is a sniper. Let's not forget all the kinds of elemental weapons we could add like fire swords, poison daggers and so forth. Their adding a Harpoon gun so why not more quirky stuff, like a gun that fires grenades' or a large fish that has spikes and we hit people with it. There is ALOT that can be added. You just have to think.
Best loadout is sword and flintlock bc mobility, independence from amo, twohits with good aim and the short reload time of the pistol and most of all the respect you recieve, using that loadout
Idk if you're on console but a good PC player is gonna bop you with a sniper blunder no matter your mobility. And I've been using sword pistol for two years now and have only been told I should switch to blunder sniper, I've never had someone respect me more because I killed them with pistol sword 🤣🤣🤣 if anything sweats will shit on you more cause you're not using meta 🤣🤣
@ananassaft95 Then wouldn't throwing knives be more fitting? They are also two hit when you throw them and their rate of fire is much better, they win when it comes to finishing the opponent fast. I've been thinking about using Cutlass + Throwing Knives for that very reason. Rate of Fire is nasty, add the mobility from cutlass and you are good to go.

Cutlass can be great for those boarding plays, and dodging by holding right click, choosing a direction and pressing space has helped me alot when it comes to dodging bullets and avoiding being oneshotted from blunderbuss. And when it comes to distance, if the enemy is using sniper and blunderbuss, you can kill them if you are using throwing knives or pistol because of the faster rate of fire. If they try to close distance and use blunderbuss, you can avoid them with cutlass and perhaps stun them. Every fight is not the same and there are alot of factors at play of course. You don't need their respect if they are going to the Ferry of the Damned.
Thats meta for ships sure but meta anywhere else is pistol sniper. Now go watch any good tdmer and you will see the purest form of pvp in sot, and it's pistol sniper.

The DB Pistol is more fun since the tuning, making the reload and charge shots feel better!

Editing software is measured in frames which is different to seconds. There's 60 frames per second and recorded as such, but seconds have 100 sub units. So that's why the numbers are different. I explained this in the video.

Sorta agree but the meta changed when quick swap was removed. Now it's much more effective to run pistol sniper, since u can keep range and still 2 tap.

I love this scientific approach to testing out the weapons, but I really think that most of the valuable information here is lost here because there is no complimentary written information with the presentation. For example, a properly titled and ranked table of weapons and ttk that populates one item at a time along with the video would have been immensely helpful. I'm personally having a very difficult time learning from this video because of how quickly it's progressing through each scene. Whether it appears to be or not, this is a scientific presentation. You are communicating quantitative results from a series of experiments. There are tried and tested methods to improve presentations in this space, and one of the most crucial ones is to include clearly labelled tables in the presentation that summarize the numerical results as you go through the details. It's essentially just trying to find the fastest possible time to kill a player (TTK) TTK data is presented in weapon sets rather than individual weapons because kills are achieved by weapon swapping. How long it takes to kill someone with just the EoR isn't really important data since we know switching to literally any other weapon is going to have a faster TTK than waiting to reload the same one.
No that's not correct. The best combo is the throwing knives and the sword, because while everyone else is off partying and having premarital relations you mastered the blade.

the eye of reach really needs an ADS nerf. It does way too much damage to be fired as quickly as it can be at practically any range. It makes the flintlock practically useless.

Double barrel pistol is trash for pve and pvp, it has the worst bullet drop while having the worst damage, and bad reload speed, if it had better bullet drop than the normal pistol it would be usefull but it's just a downgrade from the normal pistol

Blunderbuss, has always been a toss up, but still stupid viable. The ability to one shot someone with ONE bullet from ONE weapon, (not including the fact that you can also pick up knifes thrown as a 3rd weapon) is absolutely absurd on its own, but not to mention that, but you also get knockback, and 99% of the time, combo into something else to finish the enemy off quickly. The pistol has just been decent not good or bad id say. Now lets look at the double barrel. What scenario does it ever have a chance to shine? If they knew the meta was already shooting someone with one weapon, then finishing them with your other. Why? WHY?! Would they add a weapon that does the same damage as it's brother, harder falloff, slower reload, AND it has no interesting effects like an idk, the same knockback the shotgun has??? Like i dont think they used their brains when making this, because being locked behind a 2 second animation of having to CHARGE MY BULLETS THAT MAY DO 80 damage. When someone on my ship can just walk up and one shot me, or while im standing there like I'm lost, they can shoot me with an eye of reach and just kill me with whatever in that time. I don't get how this got past playtesting.

You should've included sprint cancelling and X cancelling reload times and ttks to see how big of a difference it makes. I'll probably try myself tbh

@@HellsSacrifice I guess it depends on your playstyle. Cutlass can be great for those boarding plays, and dodging by holding right click, choosing a direction and pressing space has helped me alot when it comes to dodging bullets and avoiding being oneshotted from blunderbuss.
And when it comes to distance, if the enemy is using sniper and blunderbuss, you can kill them if you are using throwing knives or pistol because of the faster rate of fire. If they try to close distance and use blunderbuss, you can avoid them with cutlass and perhaps stun them.
Every fight is not the same and there are alot of factors at play of course. You don't need their respect if they are going to the Ferry of the Damned.

Go watch high level HG and the various comp leagues like CSL and LOT. You’ll see exactly two weapons.

Thats meta for ships sure but meta anywhere else is pistol sniper. Now go watch any good tdmer and you will see the purest form of pvp in sot, and it's pistol sniper.

I like the throwing knives, but they are risky to use while I am still learning them. The DB Pistol is more fun since the tuning, making the reload and charge shots feel better!

Kinda wish the double barrel pistol had both side ready to ahoot instead of one side as it kinda defeats the purpose of the second barrel by having to essentially reload by coking the second shot why not have it be two trigger pulls or hold down the trigger for both as well as making it have a longer reload so its balanced a bit but i need to know the best sails i can get as a ps5 player to be able to see bc my ass is blind rn

Editing software is measured in frames which is different to seconds. There's 60 frames per second and recorded as such, but seconds have 100 sub units. So that's why the numbers are different.

The cutlass also has unlimited use (bullets) and allows you to sword lunge through water. It is obviously the best overall weapon in the game.
Eye of Reach & Blunderbuss. Or if you are flex/bildge you could swap the sniper or blunder for a sword depending on your team and the enemies skill at boarding. The meta hasn’t changed since anniversary update lmfao. These new weapons have too much jank to be of decent use.
Sorta agree but the meta changed when quick swap was removed. Now it's much more effective to run pistol sniper, since u can keep range and still 2 tap.
@@JJJJ-lk8wj I somewhat agree, I have seen hourglassers using Flintlock+Eye of Reach though idk if the nerf to quick swap was that meta defining since it was always only 1 guy, the other always had blunder. But I could be wrong, I haven’t played much since the update came out so my experience is limited to sweaty TH-camrs and the occasional pirating session.

I love this scientific approach to testing out the weapons, but I really think that most of the valuable information here is lost here because there is no complimentary written information with the presentation. For example, a properly titled and ranked table of weapons and ttk that populates one item at a time along with the video would have been immensely helpful. I'm personally having a very difficult time learning from this video because of how quickly it's progressing through each scene.
Whether it appears to be or not, this is a scientific presentation. You are communicating quantitative results from a series of experiments. There are tried and tested methods to improve presentations in this space, and one of the most crucial ones is to include clearly labelled tables in the presentation that summarize the numerical results as you go through the details.

It's essentially just trying to find the fastest possible time to kill a player (TTK) TTK data is presented in weapon sets rather than individual weapons because kills are achieved by weapon swapping. How long it takes to kill someone with just the EoR isn't really important data since we know switching to literally any other weapon is going to have a faster TTK than waiting to reload the same one.
does the throwing knifes stabbing break though the sword combo? does one get prioritized or do they both do dmg?
I didn't test this, that's something to I need to look into.

the eye of reach really needs an ADS nerf. It does way too much damage to be fired as quickly as it can be at practically any range. It makes the flintlock practically useless.
I bet u use sword. double gun has seen enough nerfs the sniper is fine

@@RedcubeYT The eye of reach is the only weapon that can reliably shoot between ships, therefore it will always be very good. Double gunning has been meta for years, and with the new weapons it is time for a change.
@@knyt0 In the video, ray talks about how you can shoot extremely quickly after equipping the Eye of Reach. The flintlock can't have high handling if the other weapons have faster time to fire.
@@translucentoreo cus it's fun sword is objectively better no one in my clan could ever beat me with sword cus I used to hard sweat with sword and you can still quick swap with it so you can just shit on everyone with that. Sniper is essentially but not in a way where it needs to be nerfed cus then naval is gonna be ass just ask sponge he'll tell you the same

Double barrel pistol is trash for pve and pvp, it has the worst bullet drop while having the worst damage, and bad reload speed, if it had better bullet drop than the normal pistol it would be usefull but it's just a downgrade from the normal pistol
@@B1g_GR33NYeah rare should be ashamed with how they introduced it imo. For instance. Eye of Reach has always had stable damage, accuracy, and just been an all arounder. Blunderbuss, has always been a toss up, but still stupid viable. The ability to one shot someone with ONE bullet from ONE weapon, (not including the fact that you can also pick up knifes thrown as a 3rd weapon) is absolutely absurd on its own, but not to mention that, but you also get knockback, and 99% of the time, combo into something else to finish the enemy off quickly. The pistol has just been decent not good or bad id say. Now lets look at the double barrel. What scenario does it ever have a chance to shine? If they knew the meta was already shooting someone with one weapon, then finishing them with your other. Why? WHY?! Would they add a weapon that does the same damage as it's brother, harder falloff, slower reload, AND it has no interesting effects like an idk, the same knockback the shotgun has??? Like i dont think they used their brains when making this, because being locked behind a 2 second animation of having to CHARGE MY BULLETS THAT MAY DO 80 damage. When someone on my ship can just walk up and one shot me, or while im standing there like I'm lost, they can shoot me with an eye of reach and just kill me with whatever in that time. I don't get how this got past playtesting.
