Ive been racing motocross for almost 25 years and ive recently found your site.I have never commented on a video but after watching your vids i just had to comment. Your an amazing builder /mechanic your attention to detail is comparable to an artist. Its always a pleasure to watch someone whom not only knows what they are doing but loves what they are doing also. Both of which you obviously do. Your also an inspirational person givin the adversity you faced. Keep up the fantastic work cant wait to see your future builds.
Cameron...great job my friend...enjoy watching a true professional at work...can't emphasis the cleanliness...so important to this kind of work. Please keep the vids coming.
There are a few things you should do before cerakoting engine parts, 1st check the tech data sheets to make sure the colors you're using are high heat cerakotes and if the part will be exposed to the sun, the tech data sheets also tell you the UV index/stability which states how well the paints hold up in the sun. Burnt bronze is good up to 500 degrees but the color will fade at around 350 and its UV stability is considered good. 2ndly you should be running your cerakote through a mesh filter before putting it in the gun, for metallics use a 100 mesh and for all others run a 150, high end cerakotes like elite series should be run through a 325, C-series does not need a mesh. 3rd your gun should have a .08 fluid needle I believe (cant remember off the top of my head) and when Spraying your parts should be hung up and 3-5 inches away with a 3 inch fan @ a 30 degree angle down, then up. (Octagonal spraying for barrels/rounded pieces etc) 1/2 fan overlap...so when you have a spray line...your downward motion should overlap 1/2 of your 1st spray line. 3rd you should only coat the same areas twice max to ensure your hitting within the 1mil-2mil recommendations, anything past 2 mils your going to see chipping over time because your now coating over the substrate you blasted and onto the cerakote itself, cerakote doesnt stick to cerakote, it sticks to substrates so it's best to stay within recommendations. 4th, you can control gloss index by obviously ratios 12:1,18:1,24:1 and finally other factors like ambient curing vs going straight into oven while wet and also the temps, like 180 for plastics @2hrs (250 for metals @2hrs or 300 for 1 hour depending on desired glossiness) this is helpful when trying to match glosses with different thickness of metals or plastics, obviously thinner parts will cure faster than thick parts. I've included tech data sheet link at bottom. Lastly you should have a moisture regulator on your air generator (eliminates moister in the lines) as well as using an oven that has a fan built into it. Hope this helps bro! (www.cerakote.com/resource/downloads/)
Dude sweet video. I appreciate how you make nice long videos that follow something through. So many channels upload a 5 minute video then end it on a cliffhanger so we come back for the rest of what should have been in the first video.
Awesome work. I watched this video like 2 years ago. Found it again because I just wanted to get that same paint work done on my track bike build. Awesome work.
My god man your builds are truly inspiring I’m in a low spot and your videos have really givin me the drive to get up and work on my stuff too thank you man seriously best channel on TH-cam good work and keep it up
You're a true inspiration dude. Really impressed. About to begin work on one of my projects. Not sure which it will be yet. The options are: Bultaco Sherpa 350 twinshock trials - ground up restoration that I may keep for a while, Bultaco Sherpa 250 twinshock trials - ground up restoration that I will be selling, Honda CB-1 NC27 400 - non runner, needs a complete rebuild Honda CBX550 - basket case due to become a cafe racer Honda VF750F Interceptor V45 - another basket case due for total restoration to showroom condition hopefully And the most likely: CBR 125 - needs new piston, and because it needs selling Honda Varadero 125 - because I want to play with it a bit. Only needs a few repairs.
Hey man, I am wanting to sandblast my clutch cover as well. People have said because it is magnesium you have to use a special type of media to blast it, what did you use to blast it? Thanks
Cerakote will be fine anywhere on the engine or brake calipers. I'd want to use fine sand or glass beads would be better, they are round so the make a smoother surface. Depends what kind of finish you want, smooth gloss or textured.
Super nice work and I dig that trick engine stand. My only thing is the gaskets being slightly over sized. I need to see if the wife will let me install an oven into the garage.
really inspiring! I want to treat my valve cover, oil pan and my cylinder head (all aluminum) like this. so this process is good heat resistant too I assume?
Hi Cameron please can you let me know what kind on chemicals use and the red machine for cleaning and removing the shiny colors and live the parts dark. Thanks
Hey Cam can you tell me what size/type air compressor you use to power the sandblaster? I'm looking to do some sandblasting and want to make sure the compressor I buy provides sufficient power, thanks!
this great cameron the perfect acavado! I have a question the lid of the water pump was better left in black? Likewise the water pump has 2 seals on water and oil, in the video I only saw one.
Hey man, bit off topic but I’m currently restoring a Honda z 50 and was just wondering what’s your advice on how I should restore the wheels. Maybe use something you have used here??
Do you think that you could cerakote the engine cases too? Or do those get too hot? I’m thinking of a completely black case with some accents on my next project bike
I've watched this video a grip of times I love it! What color, in spray can, can I get that looks similar to your cerkote paint job? I'm building a motorized bike and would love to make it look like your cr.
Looking forward to you talking about the top end. I'm about to change out my piston. You did a little talk about the cylinder head during the tear down. Can you reuse the old with new piston if it's in good shape? Is it better to just buy bought new? Like to hear about your thoughts on option. Just came across your build yesterday. Really locked in on thank for your time and doing these videos!
Hi Cameron, the Cerakote guy I have used did not recommend it for the cases as its not very resistant to boot rub which happens from riding. What do you find? Apparently there may be a harder product coming to market for better results from that situation. Regards Peter
Just took out my Yamaha WR 500 engine and am waiting to get it back from Vapor blasting so I can reassemble it and replace bearings, seals, gaskets. Super excited.
Thank you for an AWESOME HD video with detail info. However, can you tell me with Cerakote on those parts, does it still chip and scratches with your boot or rocks,....and so forth, or is it super strong and does not rub off very easily. Is it possible to post some photos or a video after few months of use of those parts, to see what the look like? Again, appreciate your help and video. I never heard of Cerakote till your video. seems like a very good and strong stuff.
Hi Cameron...your build came just in time as I am in the process of doing a full restoration on my 02 CR250. I've been studying your videos as well as referencing my shop manual. One thing I noticed is that you didn't seem to install the inside oil seal (#12 on the OEM Parts Fiche) and it also looks like you may have put the top water pump seal (#13 on the OEM Parts Fiche) in backwards from what the shop manual shows. Was there any particular reason you did it this way? Like I said, I'm currently in the middle of doing a restoration on my '02 and was wondering if one way was preferred over another.
@Devin: I had very bad experience with this "sratchresistant" ceracote shit, my next case will beblasted with glasballs, later a Powdercoating, and that its, 3 times harder than wet culour! sheers Tom
Can you please tell me what's that gadget that is used to avoid to break the exhaust collector? That thing that you put to the cylinder where you put the head pipe. Thank you.😉
Yo Cameron, Thank You for all this knowledge that you pass down through your videos. I’ve always wanted to get into buying Dirtbikes and quads and fixing them up for Resale and for myself, I just never had a garage to do such projects myself. Keep up the hard work bro!
Great video! Im restoring an 87 honda trx250r racing quad and Im about to put the motor together and do cerakote just like you did since your motor came out looking so good. I was wondering how much cerakote do you think you used? its 4oz for 35$ or 16 for 70$ and I don't want to invest more than I have to its kind of a budget build.
Hi Cameron! Thanks very much for your Cerakote vids. I would like to coat engine casings and various parts on the handlebars black. Which of the Cerakote blacks is most black? I'd be disappointed if it ended out looking bleached or dark gray. I see you've chosen Graphite Black H-146. Did you find it suitability black off camera? Thanks, and all the best, Rupert.
Subbed. The CR250 build I’ve been watching closely, can’t wait for it to be finalized. Your work is very clean and your videos show everything involved and provides a good learning experience, thanks for that. Very easy to watch and addicting. You deserve way more subs.
What is the deal with the rubber wheel for the bench grinder? Does it have an abrasive belt and if so, what grade would you recommend? Thanks for your help!
Cameron. Your the Man. Incredible Work. What Powder coating Machine would you recommend? I have a bunch of nice Quality Spray Guns already. Cerakote is Hands down the best Looking Color for any Chrome Engine. Could you do an Engine Restore, Polish, Cerakote on a CRF50 Dirt Bike or any Small Engine 4 Stroke. I restored about 5 Dirt Bikes with my 3 Sons and had a Guy do all my Powder coating. I did the Engine Covers, Forks and swing arms in White. Just restored and modified a 2007 TTR 90 and the Engine Casings will look wicked with Cerakote. Thanks Bud ! Scott

Dude sweet video. I appreciate how you make nice long videos that follow something through. So many channels upload a 5 minute video then end it on a cliffhanger so we come back for the rest of what should have been in the first video.
Awesome job! What was the tape you used to mask off the gasket surfaces? Seemed to be heat resistant?
Looks awesome! How well does the coating last during use ?
Looks awesome. Titanium clutch cover bolts would be the icing on the cake
red724 *OH MAN IT WOULD LOOK SEEEXY AS HELL !*
What he said 👆🏻100% agree
Awesome work. I watched this video like 2 years ago. Found it again because I just wanted to get that same paint work done on my track bike build. Awesome work.

Thanks Clayton! Happy to hear I can be an inspiration!
Awesome work Cam! I have a KX 500 (1990) and (2) CR250's Im restoring , an 88' & 1987. Im gonna use all your tricks to get it right!
You're a true inspiration dude. Really impressed. About to begin work on one of my projects. Not sure which it will be yet. The options are:
Bultaco Sherpa 350 twinshock trials - ground up restoration that I may keep for a while,
Bultaco Sherpa 250 twinshock trials - ground up restoration that I will be selling,
Honda CB-1 NC27 400 - non runner, needs a complete rebuild
Honda CBX550 - basket case due to become a cafe racer
Honda VF750F Interceptor V45 - another basket case due for total restoration to showroom condition hopefully
And the most likely:
CBR 125 - needs new piston, and because it needs selling
Honda Varadero 125 - because I want to play with it a bit. Only needs a few repairs.
Master !!! greetings from Argentina!!! your work is excellent and very motivating
Hey man, I am wanting to sandblast my clutch cover as well. People have said because it is magnesium you have to use a special type of media to blast it, what did you use to blast it? Thanks
You can blast with 100 grit aluminum oxide. That’s what’s I used on these covers with no issues
Awesome thanks so much
I HAVE A CR125 03! Just finally rebuilt this as a project, the cover would be the cherry on top
What type of grease did you use for the gaskets? Could I use standard marine grease?
Great! What is the blue grease you use on the gasket surface?
What grit sand do you use
and what temp for oven
also what temp will the cerakote go too for use on brake calipers and the whole engine
Cerakote will be fine anywhere on the engine or brake calipers. I'd want to use fine sand or glass beads would be better, they are round so the make a smoother surface. Depends what kind of finish you want, smooth gloss or textured.
your rebuild videos couldn't have come at a better time, as i'm in the process of rebuilding my '02 engine. very, very helpful!
Amazing vid. I am waiting impatiently for the next amazing episodes. A man who loves motorcycles. The best job I've ever seen
hey man wicked video, now im curious what can we spray or use besides a polish to protect our clean cases from rust and corrision? thanks!
Looks great. Are you blasting with 120 aluminum oxide? Smooth.
I always amaze how this machine back to life.....nicely done....
Super nice work and I dig that trick engine stand. My only thing is the gaskets being slightly over sized. I need to see if the wife will let me install an oven into the garage.
Best person to restore bikes, I always come here
really inspiring! I want to treat my valve cover, oil pan and my cylinder head (all aluminum) like this. so this process is good heat resistant too I assume?
Its on a miata nb.
Was that the 4oz bottle? I'm just wanting to cerakote a clutch cover and ignition cover and wondered how much I'd need.
this great cameron the perfect acavado! I have a question the lid of the water pump was better left in black? Likewise the water pump has 2 seals on water and oil, in the video I only saw one.
that turned out super sick! gunna be even better with that red oil cap
Around 8:47 I think there’s supposed to be an oil seal that goes in before the water pump shaft bearing. Maybe not haha what do you think?
I loved the result, definitely will do this to my cheap bike.
Hey man, bit off topic but I’m currently restoring a Honda z 50 and was just wondering what’s your advice on how I should restore the wheels. Maybe use something you have used here??
Hello there from Greece could u help me pls what kind of colors do you used and also for haw many time and how many degrees you have put them in oven
Do you think that you could cerakote the engine cases too? Or do those get too hot? I’m thinking of a completely black case with some accents on my next project bike
Hey witch is better , this or powder coat? I never knew this existed. Thanks!

wow... cant wait to see it done. you should start working on the frame and getting that back together while your bolts are in the mail.
Just mind blowing!! Incredible job my brother.
Hi Cameron, the Cerakote guy I have used did not recommend it for the cases as its not very resistant to boot rub which happens from riding. What do you find? Apparently there may be a harder product coming to market for better results from that situation. Regards Peter
Great video! What do you use for the sand blasting media, and what grit?
Hey Cameron, how's the progress on the CR250 build??? Been waiting on the following video ;)
Are you planning on cerakoting the top of your piston?
Just took out my Yamaha WR 500 engine and am waiting to get it back from Vapor blasting so I can reassemble it and replace bearings, seals, gaskets. Super excited.
What is the green transparent tape you used for masking off the case?
Thank you for an AWESOME HD video with detail info. However, can you tell me with Cerakote on those parts, does it still chip and scratches with your boot or rocks,....and so forth, or is it super strong and does not rub off very easily. That bike is going to be sick! Loving the build series
I have and very good question, will the high temperature engine paint from Rustoleum work as well?
Should probably cerakote my evo engine next
I reckon that might get a few views
Devin Niemela boost your brz
@Devin: I had very bad experience with this "sratchresistant" ceracote shit, my next case will beblasted with glasballs, later a Powdercoating, and that its, 3 times harder than wet culour! sheers Tom
hey nice video but what is the engine mount where the engine is hanging in,do you make it yourself can you buy these???
Hi man i'm french and i would like to know exactly what paint you are using model colors .......
For crankcase
Thank you
Can you please tell me what's that gadget that is used to avoid to break the exhaust collector? That thing that you put to the cylinder where you put the head pipe. Thank you.😉
Curious where you got the engine stand, I was thinking about making one,
I’m only after giving my kx a new engine rebuild and now I’m doing a cr 125 that’s y I’d like that side casing u done in the video
Yo Cameron, Thank You for all this knowledge that you pass down through your videos. I’ve always wanted to get into buying Dirtbikes and quads and fixing them up for Resale and for myself, I just never had a garage to do such projects myself. Keep up the hard work bro!

Those colours are so nice ! i need this on my engines also
Looks awesome! This is the channel that I need to watch hopefully I can do some of my own projects soon.
would this work on something like a exhaust and air cooled barrel, or is this not heat resistant?
does cerakote make an anti-friction coating? will you do a video coating transmission gears and other low end parts if they do? great video!
Thanks! They do not as far as I know. These gears have already been treated
Looks great! This inspires me to cerakote parts on my 2000 CBR1100XX.
Where do you buy the pointy scotchbrite dremel attachments. I’ve been looking for the pointy ones for ages
Hey, may I ask you that what kind of compressor are you using to sandblast the surface?
Using this one www.harborfreight.com/air-tools/air-compressors/29-gal-2-hp-150-psi-cast-iron-vertical-air-compressor-61489.html
What sort of grease were you using for the gasket surfaces?
Maxima Grease www.maximausa.com/product/waterproof-grease-2/
Great work Cameron this bike is going to look sweet I can’t wait to see the finished product
Is it the Elite Series CeraKote that you are using? Great results!
Thanks! Yes it is indeed
How well does the Ceracote hold up on the clutch cover?
My question too...what is the wear resistance of this stuff against boots....
It should hold up well, seeing that its similar to powder coat.
What engine holder are you using?
Love your videos! They chill me immensely before I go to sleep, keep up the good work 👍🏼
Hey man, You talked in your video about ordering a cylinder. Where are you ordering it from and what is the company you are using?
It was ordered in from Honda Japan but they've been back ordered for a while now
Ok awesome, Thank you and can you post the link you ordered it from?
Love your attention to detail man, Those casings look sick, Subscribed
I love how that cerakote looks, awesome! You seem to have mastered it now
What Pressure is used to sand blast the aluminium Clutch cover ?? and sand Grade ???
what type of grease where you using on the gasket surface? is any okay, as im sick of tearing gaskets
The best i love your videos and the way you explain step by step everything thanks a lot
What are you using for blasting media?
Dude , that looks fantastic ‼️👍🏻 I'd just sit & stair at it most of the day ....LOL !! I have two vintage CR125's 92,93 this would look rad on.
Subbed. The CR250 build I’ve been watching closely, can’t wait for it to be finalized. Your work is very clean and your videos show everything involved and provides a good learning experience, thanks for that. Very easy to watch and addicting. You deserve way more subs.
This ceramizer paint looks really like the original on the covers, it's a super-well-made job
Love this content Cameron! Tips are always over the top! Really enjoy the channel every time I get of TH-cam.
Approx how much burnt bronze cerakote did it take to do the head, clutch cover, water pump and rc valve cover?,
What is the deal with the rubber wheel for the bench grinder? Does it have an abrasive belt and if so, what grade would you recommend? Thanks for your help!
Yes, it uses sandpaper belt. All the links for the ones I use are in the description of the video
Cameron Niemela thanks Cameron. Love your videos mate. You are a master craftsman. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Cheers from Australia!
This bike is going to be beautiful!!! I can’t wait tell that cylinder comes in!!!!
How long does the Cerakote hold up compared to traditional powder coating? As far as boot scuffing goes?
I honestly haven't tested it yet, but will be once I ride the bike
Can’t wait to see the finished engine . Gonna look sweet !
Scott
Sweet video man your channel is only getting bigger and better love your bike builds
Love the videos. Wish the excess gasket could be trimmed and removed like you did with that knife!
Hey man what type of grease youre using for the gasket mating surface?
Maxima Grease www.maximausa.com/product/waterproof-grease-2/
HI Cameron, wondering where you sourced the engine stand tool ?
