The first test I found was a "major" one. It nearly ruined my will to play the game. Glad i found this video. Now I realize that there are three different difficulties and I was lucky enough to find the hardest. Lol
One of the problems with open world games. No difficulty progression. I was fortunate enough to first enter the Ta'Loh Naeg shrine, where you are taught all the dodge techniques. Some time later I fought a Minor Test of Strength which I won after 5-6 tries.
@@Banzybanz Ta'Loh does not teach you anything. I do what it says, and none of the special moves ever kicks in. I guess I'm not a button twitcher and I press them too slow... :(
st3ff3n87 The first one I found was a major one too, before I had even seen a divine beast but I was able to dodge all of his attacks and counter on like my second or third try, but I could not kill him beacuse I ran out of arrows and weapons...
@@Banzybanz well it's not a problem, becuase you could just leave and go explore until you come back stronger. in a non-open world it would be a boss YOU HAD to defeat to progress which would kill my motivation to play.
If the battlefield has no pillars, the ground is usually WATER. Use cryonis to make an ice pillar. It also doesn't break to guardian missiles. Not only that, but you can climb it when the guardian is using its spinning missile attack that makes an updrift.
i used a frostspear to freeze and followed up with a thunderblade to stun. repeat until dead. It's basically an infinite. scout won't make a single attack
I kinda did that, but I just waited for it to attack, spammed the electro wand, backed away to let the wand charge while it attacked, then repeated until my wand broke. Lol
Your video freaking saved my butt, I broke every weapon and every bow I had against the major challenge, all I had left were shields and food. That parry timing was essential! Mind you, I did this challenge with three hearts and only one stamina upgrade like an idiot... hardest battle of my life
I already knew how hard the middle ones were, so I waited until I had a decent ammount of powerful weapons. While I didn't know a lot of the tricks he showed, turns out the electric big sword is completely broken against these guys. He still one-shooted me, so I used a meal for protection.
I'm also a low level link. Gonna try the melee grinding and dodging and finishing him off with that parry. Last time I died because the parries bounced off to the pillars. I'm also going to drop my resurrection fairies on the floor, so I don't waste them with that combat .
In literally the first moment you walk through any major test door.. pull out your Great Electrical Sword.. swipe at nothing but immediately press start, observe blurred action behind menu.. if there's a yellow lighting streak then drop the sword, as well as any conductive object Shield, now or blade. Connect them in close proximity. And observe the spark between.. now your set to trap any guardian until it dies and with zero danger of harm. Just keep the blades between until it touches them and wait wait wait.. or help it along. Jedi Master Kill.
Between this method, and leveling up armor, master mode is a breeze. Even the Lynels are easy. The only hard thing is the master sword trials of the sword, in master mode…
I’ve literally gone from not being able to do the minor one... to accidentally coming across the major test of strength, watching this video, and beating it first time. Thanks a lot!
Ironically, I found myself at this exact test of strength last night. I only just started, too, but I beat a nearby shrine that had some guardian weapons, plus my own soldier's claymore. It took me like 2 hours, but I trial-and-errored. Here's what I did: -Bombs. If you create a bomb during the battle, the guardian will be distracted and destroy it, but in the beginning, if you spawn one, throw it into the center, and THEN walk up to active the guardian, you can still detonate it while he's approaching you for risk-free damge. - Electric Arrows work just as well at stopping the guardian. You can also land more than just one hit. I don't know how to make ancient arrows (?) yet, so I can't determine that. - I had some haste elixirs, which were good for dodging lasers and his beyblade charge since I could never sidestep out of the way. - The nervousness thing is true. You have to make it play *your* game if you want to win. I managed to do this without any armor, too (I haven't found any), so it's absolutely possible. Good luck!
Any electric/thunder weapon I find works very well, especially in their 2nd and third animations, you can stun with electric arrows in the second stage before they do their thing and hit them a lot
Everyone: Learning the attack patterns and creating effectives strategies to beat the guardians. Me: creating shock trap with great thunderblade and metal glitch then watching the guardian die slowly
This video has probably helped me more than anything else I’ve ever seen. I just stumbled across it - I had been skipping anything besides minor tests of strength and figured I’d take care of them at the end. But your video turned them from some terrifying feat to a really fun part of the game that I can experiment in now. THANK YOU!
Before any Divine Beasts, I managed to go to the Chaas Qeta Shrine, a Major Test Of Strength in the middle of a vast ocean, by eating tons of Stamina Food. I broke my precious Edge Of Duality on that thing and I still kept dying. Going to attempt again after Vah Ruta.
I know this is late, but for any botw players who play it still, I have a method for a major test of strength: So like he said, block with your shield because he might shoot lasers at you (not always) You should have some elemental weapons, (I recommend thunder and ice) also you can use arrows. You can also use stasis+ if you have powered it up by now, and that works well. For most of the fight you should use ice arrows or an ice weapon, then when he is frozen spin around with a great thunder blade and it should do more damage to him. When he is about to come with his weapons, hide behind one of those pillars, or use stasis plus. You can also stun him with thunder arrows or freeze him with ice arrows, then attack. If he is gonna spin around with the lasers, use the updraft to either shoot him with an elemental arrow, or do a down strike. Btw, ancient arrows don’t work the same on them with a normal guardian, it does damage, but it doesn’t kill the small guardian immediately. Now, the good part. When he is gonna shoot you with a bunch of lasers, use a 2 handed weapon (I recommend a strong one, like a royal claymore or something) And spin around with it, and it should kill him faster, faster if you were to just hit him. If you want to use a two handed ancient weapon, go for it. And then you’re done! This is just my way, but you can use it too if you still play the game! :)
This was an amazing video. It just took this impossible shrine ive been stuck at and wasting so many weapons and health meals on and turned it into a cake walk. even just realizing i can casually walk around his attacks is wild. thanks a ton, gonna be checking out the rest of your content.
Thanks alot, I'm a 4 heart link, with no advanced stasis but with some extra hearts and help from your video I completed major test of strength in Hyrule castle. Thanks alot!
This is a very old video, but I just wanted to thank you! recently got back into games and when botw went on sale since the sequel is righr around the corner, I knew I had to get it. Not only is your way of explaining extremely entertaining, but you actually took the time to tell us the "tells" and what moments we need to time, unlike other guides I've seen out there. I had several major tests of strength just sitting there, even did all the divine beasts first, and now that I *know* I find them... surprisingly fun?? Like. I ran to all of my free ones and did them all with just one death (misstimed the final laser, oops)! Since its my first playthrough and I'm not in a rush, I chose not to trade stamina vessels for heart containers, and now that I completed these last test of strengrh shrines I'm finally strong enough to get the Master Sword!!! :D Thank you sm!
I couldn't handle those as I'm still kind of early in the game, but after watching this tutorial I did two of those major tests with much less effort! Thank you, very much appreciated :)
I just bought this game, and being used to turn base combat, it quite the shift. Thanks for the extra tips and words or support, since its so easy to be discouraged in this
It is a huge shift. I have played Pokémon for so long. Zelda is a whole other experience. It trades off intense strategy and gets intense speed. It does take getting used to. I have been getting better over time. The first game I beaten is Ocarina of Time. This is the game with the notorious Water Temple dungeon. Yeah, I see how difficult it is with the water mechanics and water level puzzles. All the struggle does pay off in the end. The water temple has the easiest boss in the game, except for the ones in the three introductory temples. This boss is the amoeba. What makes this boss so easy is that it is so slow. It move like a slug. So I can easy outmenuver the boss and strike back. That was good practice. That was good practice in Zelda content. Shrine guardians are a lot faster. Yet the video still shows outmenuvering.
thx man, but I'm a low level scrub. Are ancient weapons an effective way to go? I got few inv spaces (hestu only gave me 2 upgrades), but I might be able to get some ancient stuff (also I already got 4 ancient arrows). Anymore tips?
Supershadow301 someone added earlier that if you can get your hands on a freezing wand or ice arrows it's pretty easy to just keep freezing it while following up with a sword combo. Also, yes, if you have some ancient weapons made like the sword, axe or chainsaw (long sword) they should do bonus damage to the guardian scouts. Keep in mind as well that if you craft the guardian set and upgrade it you will have extra defense against guardian style attacks.
The Ancient Weapons are critical for Guardians and Guardians only. Any type of Guardian (Regular, Mobile, Helicopter, Sentry etc.) will take extra damage to Ancient Weapons. Other enemies will not be affected by the bonus damage by Ancient Weapons. Ancient Arrows on the other hand could one shot any enemy (excluding bosses) if you target their eye, face etc. I know this comment is 1 year old but I hope it helps anyone else that might have the same question. Hope I was any help :)
So uhh... ... After horribly and horrifically dying to the _bad_ guardian at the docks underground, i decided to look up a guide, this is the first video i clicked on. I went from being completely unable to do anything against these guys, to beating probably the hardest one in the game *(I HOPE)* in about 2 tries. ... ... Yeah, i don't think i can overstate just how extremely damn helpful this guide is; Take this guy's words to heart, because they may just save you a WHOLE lot of headache. (also, it's a butterfly knife, not a sword, on the guardian. and he's flipping it... showing off. ;)
I can’t beat it, I’ve tried at least 10 times. My weapons suck, and I don’t know where to find any affective ones. Someone please help!! This had me really sad. 😥
I just started playing this game and this video is sooo helpful. Thank you for acknowledging what to do if one is bad at getting flurry rushes to happen and breaking down the exact timing of everything. I think it will help me a lot!! :)

High-level toasters with anger management issues are bae. EZ win for cool weapons.
Ive cleared many major test so i watched this video to check out some tips or if there is any advanced tips i didnt know upon watching this video i loved the excitement keep doing what ur doing gj
I’ve done the minor and moderate tests but always got stuck at the major ones. This one helps so much because of the the explanations for exactly when to dodge and parry! Thanks so much!
Not sure if it's already mentioned, but when the guardian does its spinning rush, another way to stop it if there are no pillars, is to throw a remote bomb and explode it as it passes over in its spinning rush. It wont be stunned, but it will stop its spinning immediately. Just be sure to throw the bomb AFTER it starts the 'arm stretch out' animation, if you do it before, the guardian will just shoot the bomb.
Anyone else think there's way too many of these tests of strength? I swear, 4/5 of the last several shrines I found, not including the DLC ones, were either a test of strength or a blessing. It gives me the impression that they just added a whole bunch of those as filler for where they ran out of ideas for puzzles; I can't think of any other reason for there to be that many.
I mean there are 120 damn shrines, coming up with a different puzzle for all of them would be torture. Besides, I don’t mind since the tests of strength are fun and the blessings are always guarded by some other puzzle anyway
Please don't complain about one of the only difficult parts of the game.....the rest of it is a total cake walk. Major tests of strength and Lynels are the only challenge and they barely count as a challenge, lol.
@@atomikaI I love puzzles, and I love to kick ass. I feel like they are a nice change of pace when I visit a shrine and find out it's a 'kick some robot's metallic ass' type instead of the regular puzzle. Gets the adrenalin pumpin' when I rush in all 'bring it on! You want strength? I'll give you strength!'
When he does the laser attack, the best thing to do is parry it. If you’re bad at parrying then get an acient sheild from akkala ancient tech lab. It parries every laser if you’re locked on them, and doesnt break while sheild surfing. Also helpful while defeating Calamity Ganon. I do recommend getting it. But don’t use it as a melee sheild
Awesome video. I have always been able to kill the Guardian Scout IV (the major test of strength shrine Guardian Scouts), but it was always very difficult cuz I wasn’t exactly sure how to dodge them and make a perfect block with my shield before my shield would break. Thank you so very very much for making this video
because you can sell your hearts for stamina, go to the horned statue at hateno village(in the side of the road to hateno beach), or how I like to call it- THE SATAN
Dude thanks so much! I’m bossing these now like a champion! Did the two shrines by each other with scouts. A 4 and a 3. The 3 the super easy after learning the 4. Thanks again!
Every time the enemy jumps to separate from you and prepare some kind of special attack what I do is: stasis to paralyse him, then aim with shock arrow, shoot when he is free from stasis and then whe shocked atack. So basically if you do four parrys and then this you get to his last phase attack (beam) very easily. Thanks for your video!
Too bad you stopped streaming. This is by far the best tutorials in TH-cam on how to defeat the toughest guardian scouts. Wishing you the best in whatever you are doing now.
Found this one when I literally had just left the plateau, it wasn't fun on my first playthrough. Managed to beat it after one or two deaths. That encounter taught me the patterns and the luxury of flurry rushes. Immediately after I went for divine beast vah naboris and managed to win after 10 - 15 attempts and almost giving up. In botw it's about learning from your mistakes and understanding attacks patterns. Learn these and you will succeed in any battle.
When the Scout spins, you can also do a flurry attack (though the timing is really hard to get at) or hit him in the eye with an arrow to stun him (and stop the spin).
when the guardian scout flicks its sword around, it seems like a motion you would do with a balisong. if you watch carefully you see it has two handles. that move and spin around like a balisong. (2:49)
New tactic! STEP 1 : Get acabagillian bomb arrows STEP 2 : Find major test of strength STEP 3 : Stasis STEP 4 : Forget your bow STEP 5 : Contomplate your life decisions STEP 6 : Uninstall STEP 7 : Buy a new console STEP 8 : Miss breath of the wild STEP 9 : Reinstall breath of the wild STEP 10 : Beat the scout legitimately Congratulations, you beat the major test of strength.
So, good video but he forgot to mention a crucial detail, every one of the gaurd's attacks can be countered, while it is harder, it most definitely is a rewarding mechanic to practice and learn. That being said you'll get more damage out of flurry rush than counters, unless the enemy launches a projectile. Also, his bay-blade like attack can be back dodge to initiate a flurry rush, which will also stop his spining attack. It should be noted that this spinning attack can be countered but the timing is a tad tricky as both his swinging arms as well as his actual body are considered attacks theres more info but too tired to typed
I can’t begin to tell you how much this helped me 😭 I was about to give up and I saw this video and literally right after, I beat the guardian. Thank you so much
DUDE!!!!!!! I followed your advice and beat the guardian FIRST TRY!!!!!! Ate some food and broke a few weapons but NO ARROWS!!! I am a coward and usually beat guardians from afar. You are the BEST!!!!!!
Excellent guide! Somehow I managed to win the first encounter with this speciment with brute force and zero skills - spamming a few dozen bomb arrows. I didn't even knew about flurry rush 😂
Thx for the tips on when to use the side hop and back flip. I've never mastered them and gave up. I use stasis and pop them with 2 bomb arrows at the start. Any time I have the distance, they get a bomb arrow in the face. And I use stasis every time it recharges to get in extra shots. Guardian weapons work best on them, and it doesn't matter if they break because I'm going to pick up new ones when the Guardian dies. I'm going to practice the hop and flip now that I know what to look for. Thx!
By watching this, you just gave me a strategy I can try to use (Thank you, man !!!). When the robot does that laser thing that spins in a circular motion which causes the air currents to come up, use one of those to lift myself up with the para-glider then shoot away at that jerk. I suck at dodging hits, but might try it too.
Thunder weapon glitch works well. If you want to cheese it. Swing a thunder weapon and drop the weapon mid swing(Before the swing is finished). The sword should conduct electricity if done right. Drop another metal weapon near it and you will see electricity form around it. Lure Guardian to it and GG.
Me: Please be a puzzle. Please be a puzzle. PLEASEEE.

Thanks so much for the feedback guys! I'll try to keep it up! ^_^
Supershadow301 yes and when you strike Guardians with Ancient melee weapons you stun them a little bit
TheAnimewolfchick
Craft at 2nd lab(top right)
Takes some resources and not really worth it though
The Ancient Weapons are critical for Guardians and Guardians only. Any type of Guardian (Regular, Mobile, Helicopter, Sentry etc.) will take extra damage to Ancient Weapons. Other enemies will not be affected by the bonus damage by Ancient Weapons. Ancient Arrows on the other hand could one shot any enemy (excluding bosses) if you target their eye, face etc. I know this comment is 1 year old but I hope it helps anyone else that might have the same question. Hope I was any help :)
@@nodog3743 Oh I didn't know they took extra damage.
I want to thank you so much for this video! Plus I can tell you put effort in it to make it extremely entertaining as well! Here’s a like and a sub.
Great tutorial, even better commentating.
Dude! Not only was this Clíp super helpful, but your comments made it so entertaining! Great job!
This is one of the best breakdowns I have ever seen. Kudos to you, and thank you very much!
So uhh...
(also, it's a butterfly knife, not a sword, on the guardian. and he's flipping it... showing off. ;)
A little Challenge
Major Test with only Korok Seed
nice!! but what about the guardians outside the shrines??
"High Level Toaster" LMAO
I just really appreciate the old school instructional format..
I can’t beat it, I’ve tried at least 10 times. My weapons suck, and I don’t know where to find any affective ones. Someone please help!! This had me really sad. 😥
I have found the best weapons in and around the castle. But be careful, there are drones and centuries EVERYWHERE!
I found them by walking around, idk what to say. I have a fire sword, an electric sword, an ice trident and a 38 sword.
Great video, super helpful. I'm a newbie to BOTW and this video helped me beat my first major test in one try.
Thanks a ton.
I’ve done the minor and moderate tests but always got stuck at the major ones. This one helps so much because of the the explanations for exactly when to dodge and parry! Thanks so much!
You missed the most op way to kill a scout the TREE BRANCH WOOOOOO!
I can see that point of view loud and clear. On the other hand... that loot though OwO
How do u only have 72 subs!!!!!??????
Welcome to the channel mate /:)
Awesome video. I have always been able to kill the Guardian Scout IV (the major test of strength shrine Guardian Scouts), but it was always very difficult cuz I wasn’t exactly sure how to dodge them and make a perfect block with my shield before my shield would break. Thank you so very very much for making this video
wait u have the master sword with ten hearts??
because you can sell your hearts for stamina, go to the horned statue at hateno village(in the side of the road to hateno beach), or how I like to call it- THE SATAN
Dude thanks so much! I’m bossing these now like a champion! Did the two shrines by each other with scouts. A 4 and a 3. The 3 the super easy after learning the 4. Thanks again!
It’s pronounced melee.... may- lay lol sorry it was bothering me
Amen!!!!! I HATE when people say ME LEE or any other variation, lol.
@@47ravenlord you really get mad over someone not being able to pronounce melee jesus christ people always want to complain about something
@@potatoking4227 wtf do you think you just did you hypocritical dipshit?
I can’t believe you don’t have more subs man this video was great you just earned a sub
Yay I got my first like!
Why is it blue?
Elyse Bulla you liked your own comment thats why
Every time the enemy jumps to separate from you and prepare some kind of special attack what I do is: stasis to paralyse him, then aim with shock arrow, shoot when he is free from stasis and then whe shocked atack. So basically if you do four parrys and then this you get to his last phase attack (beam) very easily.
Thanks for your video!
I beat one of these early on
I timed it with dodging and i used items carefully
Too bad you stopped streaming. This is by far the best tutorials in TH-cam on how to defeat the toughest guardian scouts. Wishing you the best in whatever you are doing now.
Mee-lay combat?
Found this one when I literally had just left the plateau, it wasn't fun on my first playthrough. Managed to beat it after one or two deaths. That encounter taught me the patterns and the luxury of flurry rushes. Immediately after I went for divine beast vah naboris and managed to win after 10 - 15 attempts and almost giving up. In botw it's about learning from your mistakes and understanding attacks patterns. Learn these and you will succeed in any battle.
He has the master sword with only 10 hearts 😲
#likeaboss
He probably used the Granter of Boons and sold his hearts for stamina after getting the sword.
When the Scout spins, you can also do a flurry attack (though the timing is really hard to get at) or hit him in the eye with an arrow to stun him (and stop the spin).
Wow. You really had to push the 9:27 mark didn't you.
Lol, what? XD
Are you dumb if your trying to insult him it would have to be the 10:00 mark you dip
when the guardian scout flicks its sword around, it seems like a motion you would do with a balisong. if you watch carefully you see it has two handles. that move and spin around like a balisong. (2:49)
New tactic!
STEP 1 :
Get acabagillian bomb arrows
STEP 2 :
Find major test of strength
STEP 3 :
Stasis
STEP 4 :
Forget your bow
STEP 5 :
Contomplate your life decisions
STEP 6 :
Uninstall
STEP 7 :
Buy a new console
STEP 8 :
Miss breath of the wild
STEP 9 :
Reinstall breath of the wild
STEP 10 :
Beat the scout legitimately
Congratulations, you beat the major test of strength.
I love how he’s supporting us on defeating the guardian and also teaching us btw new sub keep up to good content bro!
this guy expects me to learn to fight when he can't even pronounce melee
So, good video but he forgot to mention a crucial detail, every one of the gaurd's attacks can be countered, while it is harder, it most definitely is a rewarding mechanic to practice and learn. That being said you'll get more damage out of flurry rush than counters, unless the enemy launches a projectile. Also, his bay-blade like attack can be back dodge to initiate a flurry rush, which will also stop his spining attack. It should be noted that this spinning attack can be countered but the timing is a tad tricky as both his swinging arms as well as his actual body are considered attacks theres more info but too tired to typed
Say it with me.... MAY-LAY. Not MEE-LAY
i like how this video gives also alternative techniques for those who dont wanna use parrying or flurries
I can’t begin to tell you how much this helped me 😭 I was about to give up and I saw this video and literally right after, I beat the guardian. Thank you so much
I was having a hard time with them, thanks so much for this video!
Thank you for making this. I was so purplexed on the sheild parry move that I avpided these shrines entirely. The stasis idea worked!
DUDE!!!!!!! I followed your advice and beat the guardian FIRST TRY!!!!!! Ate some food and broke a few weapons but NO ARROWS!!! I am a coward and usually beat guardians from afar. You are the BEST!!!!!!
Awesome narration, this channel is underrated!
This is by far the most useful video I have ever seen, thanks dude I really mean it
Excellent guide!
Pt 2 : OR if I can get the Akkala lab activated, then I can purchase some arrows so I can take some of those guardian punks OUT !!!!! >:(
Thunder weapon glitch works well. If you want to cheese it.
Swing a thunder weapon and drop the weapon mid swing(Before the swing is finished). The sword should conduct electricity if done right. Drop another metal weapon near it and you will see electricity form around it. Lure Guardian to it and GG.
