    This wasn’t just super powers......this was will power. This is how far Superman would go to save mankind. His own life means nothing to him..... and people say he’s a boring character smh....

    • @HappyRoach1

      I wouldn't say that Superman is a boring character, but has been depicted the same way for over 50 years, the all American boy scout. Definitely need for an upgrade. Plus Supes doesn't have a huge and diverse rogue gallery like Batman or Spider-Man does. It just been recently that DC Comic been using Darkseid in the animated series, cartoon movies, and theatrical releases. After decades of using Lex Luthor as Superman's main villain. They finally changed his costume by removing the red underwear. Also, we're still wondering how does a pair glasses & hair combed differently, make people not notice how similar Superman and Clark Kent look. I wear glasses and when I take them off and comb my hair differently, I don't look that different.
      Also a lot of comic book characters are show their pros and cons. Their best and their flaws. Tony Stark is a intellectual genius, but can be arrogant and prone to alcoholism. Bruce Wayne is dedicated to fighting crime and won't take a life, but can't get over the death of his parents and can be cold to his crime fighting partners, the Bat Family or the Justice League. I like how Superman was depicted in the Justice League Animated Series, because we really got to see his humanity and how he wasn't always right. How he felt inconvenienced and restrained. How he loved certain people with a passion. How Superman could be resourceful even if he didn't have his powers.
      Batman and Spider-Man are almost as old as Superman, but they have been to keep those characters fresh and interesting. Trust me, I'm a big Superman fan, but I as a fan think he is due for some changes. Batman, Wolverine, Black Panther, and some other characters too.

      @@abuzahra1600 , I love Cavill's take on Superman. It's definitely something new. Not a 'Boy Scout.' Cavill's Superman is someone who had to hide most of their life and never felt like they fit in. His adopted father didn't want him to expose his powers because he didn't think the world would accept him.
      In real life, Superman wouldn't be so easily accepted by the masses, no matter how much he saved people. Humans can be ignorant and selfish. Superman would have huge detractors like Spider-Man has with Jonah Jameson.

    • @abstract5249

      @@HappyRoach1 Exactly. No matter how beloved you are, you will ALWAYS get detractors. Manny Pacquiao is absolutely beloved in the Philippines, so much so that his boxing events actually lower crime rates and traffic in the country. But even HE has critics and detractors in his own country, both ordinary citizens and other politicians (I've heard his debates are often heated).
      No one is truly universally beloved. Not Manny Pacquiao, not Jesus, not Buddha, not Trump/Biden/Bernie Sanders, not the Beatles, not Abraham Lincoln, not Martin Luther King Jr, absolutely no one. If Superman were real, he would definitely have his fair share of detractors, whether for good or bad reasons.

    • @nitramf5

      @@HappyRoach1 Batman and Spider-Man are also in a never ending cycle, I haven't read yet this run but I was aware that Superman had a son, a people liked that run until Bendis changed things.
      Spider-Man is stuck in his 20's no married, no children, always going in circles
      With Batman is the same, he can't be happy because then he would be a terrible hero so we go back to the beginning.
      That's why adaptations are important, they can give an ending to this characters but WB doesn't give Superman a chance, he is an amazing character I mean at least we have Superman and Lois but that's not enough, he deserves his Matt Reeves or Sam Raimi, people that know what this character is capable.

      There’s a story in the comics where Superman races the Flash for charity. As fast as he is, there’s no way Superman can beat the Flash in a foot race. It just can’t happen. Lex takes advantage of this fact and says that if Superman wins, he’ll donate a billion dollars to any charity of Superman’s choosing. Superman, knowing all the good that a billion dollars towards charity will do, pushes himself to run faster than he’s ever run before. He knows he can’t possibly win, but that’s not an option. He has to win, for the good of the poor and the unfortunate members of society. They are counting on him.
      And against all odds, Superman wins. Lex lives up to his word and donates a billion dollars to charity.
      And the great thing about this story is that it’s told by a little girl who is kidnapped by Darkseid in an attempt to break Superman’s hope. In the vastness of the universe, there’s no way Superman should be able to find her. And yet he does. Because it doesn’t matter to Superman if it’s a million lives or if it’s just one life. He’ll always give everything to save an innocent.

    Let us be clear, he's called Superman for a reason. Not only is he super strong and virtually indestructible, he has an amazing will to save the lives of the human race that has adopted him, even if it means his own destruction. And.... upon releasing the kryptonite laden island into space he immediately puts distance between himself and the weakening effects of the green crystals, thereby allowing himself to start to heal. Although weak and unconscious he heals sufficiently to survive the fall, which is shown as he doesn't suffer any injury or burning on re-entry or crash-landing. Superman is super...Period!

    Superman is inspirational, not because of his titanic powers, but because he often pushes HIMSELF beyond his own colossal limits -- and always for the good of the community, whether the community is Smallville, Metropolis, or (as here) Earth itself. Since we have almost no admirable people on the world stage in real life in this benighted era, we need our fictional heroes more than ever, to keep from going mad.

    - The feats of saving the airplane; getting shot at when stopping the terrorist with the gattling gun; lifting the boat; saving Metropolis; lifting the island into space were all amazing scenes.
    - Superman getting the crap kicked out of him then stabbed with a Kryptonite shard by Lex was brutal and emotional.
    - Superman absorbing the suns rays the shooting down from the sky is such a great visual
    I think if Superman Returns had a fight scene against a physical opponent that would have been the perfect Superman film.
    Keep the same story but just Lex use the Kryptonite to power a Metallo to fight Superman. That’s what was missing.
    Fans hadn’t had a Superman film for so long, only to get a sequel that followed closely to the plot of the first film - Lex causing a natural disaster in his bid to essentially own real estate.

      @bigbobbacharcoal 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kryptonian13 no it's over confidence. He's so use to bullets and knives not hurting him that it's his greatest weakness. It's how he got a kryptonite bullet in his chest. Tbh Superman is the easiest hero to kill if you have Kryptonite and half a brain when making the weapons. Kryptonite is poison for him so a small amount over time will kill him. I've read a lot of superman comics and batman constantly scolds him about dropping his guard. It's how he gets shot with a kryptonite bullet in Tower of Babel and how he gets mind controlled in batman hush. He also was poisoned and nearly died in the comics from a little bit of it but it took a while. Basically if I wanted to kill him a pen with a kryptonite needle that injects liquid kryptonite would kill him slowly. So once that's injected you would want to try to stab him with a kryptonite blade to distract him and that's it he's dead either from the blade or the pen or even a gun that shoots kryptonite bullets. All you would have to do is ask for his autograph and give him a the pen.

      Superman has a biofield, which acts much like a force-field. He can extend it to other objects, such as people that he flies around with to protect them. He could extend it to a plane or the island in this case, so it would be as tough and sturdy as he is, so it doesn't break apart as he lifts it. Flash has a similar power.

    People complain about how superman was able to lift this island of kryptonite but when he first came to that island he got so weak and he was totally beaten . But what they fail to see is that superman didnt really took his strength from the sun nor its an inconsistency in the movie . He knew that it was his weakness and he knew that he cant do it . But he also know that he have to . He knew it wouldnt be easy but he lifted it anyways . He drew strength and wisdom from his heart and spirit to be able to lift that thing ... he went past his limitations and did what he have to because the kryptonite may have weakened his body but he has a brave heart and a very strong will that cannot be shaken . like what a true superman should be .

    Well you have to keep in mind that the newly forming continent is infused with Kryptonite, so it's giving off massive amounts of radiation that's deadly to him (Kryptonian). And it's all around him while he's lifting it into space after rooting it out from the Earth's crust and pushing it up under millions of tons of sea water to send it into orbit. Now that's a feat of strength. Dayum... 😳

    This is, without a doubt, my favorite Superman moment of all time. It shows how far he's willing to go to save his home. Even if it costs him his life. And the best part is, humanity thanks him for it. It isn't like in the DC Extended Universe where everyone hates him for saving the day. Superman is still living at the end, thanks to the people who took care of him. Good stuff, that's how you write a Superman movie.

  • @OutdatedLeon
    @OutdatedLeon 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    This moment is rather emotionally powerful actually. The "island" that Supes was carrying out to space is the little bit of land that resembles his home planet's soil. And there's Kryptonite in it too. Supes wants to know how his homeplanet fair so he "went home"... to find it in ruins. Now he has one chance to terraform Earth into Krypton if he wills it. But he chose to throw that away. Because now, Earth is his home.

      He makes references to him being a God who doesn't share his powers. Kal-el has a genius intellect, but when Lex needs to be a threat, he's automatically smarter. Lex doesn't share his intelligence to benefit anyone but himself, whereas Kal-el does not share his technology because humanity is not ready for it. Lex enthusiastically stated created the island from a single crystal would kill billions.
      Fortunately, even with a Kryptonite shard broken off in his side, Kal-el is able to heal enough to recover, fly above the cloud cover, recharge, and launch the island somewhere between Mars and Jupiter. Kryptonians are notoriously difficult to kill without some fantastic technology or severe damage they can't revive from.

    I think this was the best representation of superman in movies since Christopher Reeves. This goes a long way to showcase his true powers and is the closest thing to his comic self power wise. He lifts an island made of kryptonite weighing millions if not billions of tons into space. The the strength it would take to break gravity and reach escape velocity with something with that much mass would be astounding. All of this while being poisoned by the Kryptonite shard that was broke off inside him and the island itself being made of Kryptonite. Cinematically this is the greatest show of strength for superman, besides Christopher Reeves lifting the tectonic plates to reverse an earthquake. This and the plane scene are the best representations of his true strength and power.

    Superman felt more real in this movie. He didn’t feel like a god, he felt like a farm boy from Kansas that was just trying his best. No inter-dimensional space demons, or coming back to life with a bunch of puffy CGI superheros at his side, just pure Superman.
    I remember watching this with my dad as a kid, and being entranced by the Superman as a whole, and asking my dad if he died when he fell back to earth, “just watch” was all I got.
