The problem is you can't find decent roll caps anymore. I buy new old stock and have tens of thousands because I started buying in 2016. Prices have gone up drastically.
I have done this in the past and i had no problems. Its very inconvenient . and doesn't work as good as Factory caps. But it's better than having nothing at all
@@snappers_antique_firearms don't think I'm crazy but I really like your ideas for when things might become totally unavailable ... eg smokeless powder for reloading is just about unobtainable in Australia at present .... likewise 44.40 .. CANNOT buy factory rounds anywhere
@@CodyandSteveDownUnder I feel sorry for you Australians when it comes to gun rights. I'm eventually going to be making a video on how to make black powder. Its very eazy. And also the info on this video. You can do this with pistol primers. I had that in this video but pulled it out. Just pull the anvil out of the pistol primer use a punch to flaten out the firing pin strike. use either the match head or those strips of caps. put them in the bottom and then reseat the Anvil and they work just fine. When reseating the Anvil make sure you wet the powder down with alcohol. so it can't go off. once alcohol drys away it'll work perfectly.
I used crushed match heads and the phosphorus from the side of the box and mixed them together. I didn’t have a lot of faith in it working so I made it a little spicy, my ears are still ringing lol.
Bravo, good job! It is good for responsible BP shooting enthusiasts and hunters to know this knowledge! 22 Sharpshooter stuff is awesome. 22 Sharpshooter has added additional items. His Primall compound is said to be very effective. However just like with Toy Caps and with Matches, Primeall is highly Corrosive and requires through cleaning afterwards. Thanks for sharing.
Interestingly, I find that If you wet the roll cap and peel the red paper off, I can get just 1 paper cap to set the gun off. This is with homemade BP as well
@@snappers_antique_firearms Nope, just a few seconds under tap water. After I peel the paper off and let it dry, I rub a little glue stick on, so it doesn't chip when I punch them out
I used 2 caps per percussion cap if that makes sense, and I tested it in a cylinder with just black powder and the powder charge did not go off, even though the cap exploded. Any tips?
Yes 2 things you can do. wet a small amount of black powder with rubbing Alcohol. And place it on last. When it's dry it will give you much more kick to the Ignition. Also you can get away from using the cap gun caps. use Match stick heads crushed up. Then you scrap alittle of the sandpaper from the side of the box with a Knife and then mix well. . Use the same Technique with that as adding rubbing alcohol to turn it into a paste to put it inside. I have a video on reloading pistol primers. I use this Match head style percussion powder in that video. Hope this helps
@@snappers_antique_firearms thanks for advice . I’m gonna just try some prime all with a punchholed paper that’s wet with alcohol on top. Hoping that will work
@@snappers_antique_firearms that seemed to work for me. After several hours l, I shook the tin hard, and only some caps had powder that had fallen out, but majority of them stayed in. I’ll probably just continue this method, but I still want to try the toy strip caps at the range.

Who sells the metal punch set now? I got tricked when I ordered one that turned out to be plastic.

Those roll caps might be easy to get in Yankee land but here in kangaroo land they're rocking horse shit.

What are those strips made of?
What size percussion capper should be used to fit remington 10s? They have a size 10 and 11
11
Is that the #10 or #11 maker for that Colt?
#11 i wish it was the #10 but i have only been able to find the #11s. Both still work though.
Try to use electric fuse

Sure just turn a revolver from the 1800s into a plasma pistol easy as pie
What is the black thing(name?
