I've actually modified this type of cap gun to shoot .22lr. It was time consuming, but in the end, I got it to do roughly half as much penetration as with a regular .22 revolver. It only fires one shot at a time before reloading, but still pretty cool.

As far as primers go, they don't get any more powerful (we all saw what it did to the cap gun) The pressures of a primer are huge and can easily put out an eye or worse. It was just a dumb thing to do.

if you put any obstruction in the barrel, including a projectile, you could be hurt or killed. a simple .22 rimfire blank in a rifle can get a projectile supersonic. those pot metal guns are meant for caps. a primer is a very powerful explosive charge.

for those who dont know the reason the primer expands like that is because its not being pressed by nothing so when it explodes it pushes back and since there is nothing behind it, the pressure of the black powder pushes the primer back.
I thought it will surely 'explode'...really good idea / experiment... and its work

I had a cap powered spud gun which used a little cartridge which held the bit of spud and the cap to provide power. I modded it by filling the cartridge with some potassium bromate and sugar mixture. I wore heavy gloves to fire it and it blew the little gun into pieces in a huge pink flash.

+invertedlow I'm not posting bullshit, the Kruger 98 got pulled off the market because you can't legally sell firearms over the counter without going through an FFL (unless it's a private sale in some states). The things were dirt cheap and the toy company would've spent more money trying to sell them as real guns than they were worth, so they were discontinued.

That's not what a shotgun primer or any primer does it should never bulge out any gun you shoot if u look at your primer there's a small indent on the primer that's it what happened to you was cause by back pressure
actually the primers on a real gun dont budge because there is no space between the shell and bolt face, if there was space between the primer and bolt face on a real gun it would bulge but because they make them with tight clearances between the primer and the bolt face/firing pin it gives it zero room to allow it to bulge from the pressure. the cap gun on the other hand doesnt have tight clearances to keep the primer in place.. there is all kinds of room between the primer and firing pin which doesnt support the primer and keep it from blowing back. if the cylinder were closer to the firing pin/backing of the revolver it wouldnt bulge unless the latch broke and let the cylinder/barrel go forward giving the primer room to move.

it's not illegal to make your own gun but the barrel has to fit the bolet snug and it has to have a pointy fire pin and a metal barrel so you might have to do a little more work
