This final step after pucking is usually not covered well by most doing black powder making videos. Well done and very thorough. I for one didn't know what you shared about the cast iron grinder. I ordered a ceramic hand grinder but I'm afraid it may not hold up. If not, I'll get the cast iron type. Thanks

To protect against moisture, heat, sparks, and static electricity, store black powder and substitutes in their original containers with the size plainly labeled. Keep the container tightly sealed. Do not store powders in glass containers because glass can produce static electricity. It takes a lot of static electricity to set off black powder but why tempt lady luck?

I was raised to have great respect for getting flash burned by black powder. In the 70's I learned to scavenge used smoke bombs and any hard paper tubes for firecrackers. The only time a spark can get made is two pieces of equally hard steel striking each other. One hammer is OK. One beating on a steel rod. Bad. Static electric spark is bad but only if you have dry dust. Control the dust and keep plastic away from it. Everything I saw here is safe. Keep up the great videos. Lots of young guys need these lessons.
PS don't make pipe bombs. Screwing on the caps is enough to set it off. Steel on steel bad. I met a one handed guy who did it.

    Hello!
Ive got a question: why are you not making a puck of the powder left over right away? Because the ingredients are already mixed up really well, they just have to be corned from there. So i really do not get why you want to ball mill it some more.
    Greetings,
    Jeff

I have 2 identical mills. I have factory gunpowder with a granulation of 0.338-2.2 mm. Is grinding 100% safe?

I need to know what size screens your using I'm trying to turn 3 f into 4f but don't want to go to far with it so I don't have to Puck it again and I'm not sure what would be best for separating 3f from 4 f

It seems to me that the powder has already been ball milled. It should work fine just to spray a bit of water onto the powder, mix and let it sit a bit to let the water spread evenly, then re puck and let it dry. All the powder ingredients have already been incorporated into the charcoal by the mill so you just need to figure out the amount of moisture to add before repucking. I would not think it would need much.

it could work that way. I find it easier to re-mill the fines (it only takes a short amount of time) and turn it back into the powder that is like fine flower. Than you for your comment.

I've been away from black powder for around 40 years. Never made my own but I'm curious, why make pucks?

It'll be more dense = faster ignition, more power per given load and more durable; less likely to absorb moisture.

I'm from Albuquerque. Any place I can buy a die for making the pucks locally? Thanks

Try searching online for what they call a rosin mold or rosin press.
They're not made for black powder but you can find both rectangular and circulr types, and they will work!

I have a question for you people that use TH-cam to put up post?
You OK with TH-cam?GOOGLE blocking your POST from PUBLIC ACCESS because TH-cam / Google wants to get ad money from others?
Just wondering how long you guys are going to allow this.
