I'm certainly curious but I have tried all the supplements, herbs, fibers, meds, etc...everything by mouth! I never can tolerate any of those things anymore since a gall bladder removal operation 2 years ago. My only successful answer is enemas. Thank God for them but it would be nice to have an oral option that doesn't make me ill. Or they only work once or twice or not at all. I like how you and Amy emphasize the importance of the "unsexy" things, like the brain-gut connection. I'm currently working a program that focuses on that and I think it's really important.

Forgive my boldness for commenting still having my gallbladder, but I just can't help wondering if you've tried Traditional Medicinals "Smooth Move" Organic Senna Peppermint tea. Senna from other teas or supplements gives me HORRIBLE, INTOLERABLE cramps and diarrhea! But Smooth Move is like I took nothing at all except it produces gentle results in the morning after I drink it at night. As I said, I have my gallbladder so I have no idea if this would work for you, but it is the ONLY Senna product that is remarkably gentle on my sensitive digestive system. Best to you!

You likely need to be supplementing with digestive enzymes if you no longer have a gallbladder and are having issues with digestion. For me, motility activator and probiotics have worked wonders. I do have a gallbladder but I’ve had chronic constipation since childhood so I’ve tried most everything out there.

Gallbladder removal due to gallstones is often due to a lack of bile acids diluting the cholesterol in there, and lack of gall bladder motility due to too little fat consumption. Were you on a low fat or low choline diet?

I recognize that here in the comment section we're all tossing suggestions that don't specifically answer your question, but since you mentioned already trying every oral-route option you're aware of, I thought I'd share something I'm noticing with my husband. We're mid-30s and chronically ill. He had his gallbladder out several years ago due to infection, and it has increased his digestive challenges. He's a brainy work-from-home guy with a pretty sedentary day and a moderately stressful job, but I do notice that things seem better for his digestion when he makes himself move around more regularly throughout the day. He has been setting an alarm where he stands up at his desk for hour-long periods and sort of gently bops around to some music. We both know that being active when you feel gross is challenging, but just in case you need an empathetic nudge to add some more physical movement to your unsexy basics, here you go. And my apologies if this suggestion is something you hear a million times a day and have already crossed off the list as accomplished but unhelpful. Best wishes in finding something helpful! ☀️

Smooth move tea causes gut cramping. What I felt helpful was to make a cup of the tea and pour it into ice cube trays and freeze.
Then I would make a tea I liked the next day and put 1 ice cube of the smoothe move tea in my tea. Less symptoms but easier to take.
