    Can the OAT marker mentioned here REALLY indicate glutathione need? Here's a great, short literature review a colleague did to answer this question:

      OP, can you please provide a reference (re: NAC dropping DAO 30%)? I'd love to read more about that and validate that claim.
      Keep in mind that GSH boosts TH1 activity, which in turn suppresses TH2 activity, and thus, mast cell activity. So, depending on the context of the individual, it can still have a net anti-histamine effect.

    If we are tracking our food (Cronometer) but we have (or we suspect) digestive issues doesn't it mean the nutritional stats don't represent true situation because of low stomach acid, celiac, SIBO, SIFO etc? Gets even more confusing knowing that GI issues may affect the absorption of only some nutrients, or some nutrients getting robbed from you by SIBO. And even more confusing knowing that serum levels of nutrients and vitamins (like magnesium or b12) are far from accurate unless tested intracellularly. Just thinking out loud

    • @gutmicrobiomequeen

      Thank you for commenting! I appreciate the help in my quest to conquer the algorithm 😉
      I've been taking 500 mg 2-3 times per day. Occasionally I would take more (when sick), and occasionally I would forget to take it for a few weeks though 🤦‍♀️ I've played with glycine here and there, but I've never been diligent with it. I have been more diligent about using collagen peptide protein powder, though, and that has glycine in it. Again, I'm very inconsistent, but I'd day I average using that about 3 or 4 times a week.

      @@gutmicrobiomequeen Thank you for this great info. I wondered 2 things. When do you stop taking supplements before your testing so that the results are not effected? Also, I understand that cysteine can also effect hormonal levels by effecting DHEA levels? What does that mean for post menopausal women?

    • @gutmicrobiomequeen
      @gutmicrobiomequeen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@salleone6387 I think I discontinued all of my supplements for 3-4 days prior to testing. For me personally, I knew that my GSH and some B vitamins were low when I wasn't supplementing and I don't intend to stop my multi or my NAC... So, in a way, I wanted to test how effective those were for me rather than simply testing my levels. I hope that helps!
      Also, I'm not savvy enough with the DHEA thing to really weigh in on it... but, I'll share this. If you were supplementing way above and beyond your nutritional needs (ex. cysteine), then I could see it potentially mucking with other systems. But, I find that many people are under-consuming Cysteine to begin with, as was the case for me. So, most of us are not supplementing above and beyond our physiological need- we are simply filling in the holes from an inadequate diet. When that is the case, I'm inclined to think that it's quite safe.

      @gutmicrobiomequeen  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah, they say oral GSH isn't absorbed well. Or, rather, that it breaks down into its 3 amino acids prior to absorption. Glycine can act as an inhibitory neurotransmitter. That is totally separate from it's other roles (glutathione production, detoxification, etc). SAMe is a methyl donor that can boost Serotonin and dopamine, but I'm not aware of it affecting glycine in the brain. My guess is that you tolerate the addition of excitatory neurotransmitters better than you do the addition of inhibitory neurotransmitters.

      Try watching Dr Brad Stanfield’s U Tube video on glutathione. He says you should not take glutathione because it bypasses the bodies regulatory system and can deliver dangerous amounts of glutathione where it’s not wanted. Best use NAC and glycine it allows the body to manufacture and regulate its own glutathione and deliver the correct amount to the cells.

    Your channel is excellent and I like the way you present the information. I came across CELLGEVITY from MAX at the end of 2011. This supplement has Cysteine wrapped in RIBOCEINE which is patented. Taking this supplement in this form allows it to pass safely thru the stomach acids and be absorbed into the Liver, where along with Glycine and Glutomaic Acid allows the making of Glutathione. I have been taking Cellgevity every day for more than 10 years and in testing my levels of Glutathione, the medics tell me its like i'm in my 20s (I'm now 70). I dont get colds, or flu, or any kind of fever. My health is excellent. Riboceine has been shown to be more than 300% more effective than NAC

    Awesome video. What's the best would it take NAC? On an empty stomach I believe, but does the time of day matter?

    • @gutmicrobiomequeen
      @gutmicrobiomequeen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Theoretically? In several doses throughout the day taken away from food.
      Practical take: I personally hate taking pills between meals (I never remember them which means I take fewer doses per day AND pills tend to feel stuck in my throat if I don't chase them with food 😑) sooooooooo I just don't. I'm willing to live with theoretically slightly worse absorption.

    Dr. Dinezza! thank you for such awesome and detailed video as always, love to learn from you! - I was really fascinated to see your chronometer stats and it made me think, I have been using it for 8 years and when I compared mine to yours, we both have the same macros and targets to the exact numbers, but I was blown away by the fact that I eat 52g of fiber, 75g of starch, and 60g of healthy sugars on daily basis, and you seem to follow half of those amounts on daily basis, am I going overboard with the fiber and starch? could these numbers be unhealthy in general?

    • @gutmicrobiomequeen
      @gutmicrobiomequeen  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm hard to say without more context. For example, if you do more cardio than me (it wouldn't take much to beat me there these days 😂😂) you'll need more starch than I do. If you're gut is doing well on 52g of fiber, I wouldn't sweat it. However, sometimes excess fiber consumption can plug ya up and cause constipation, so if that is a chief complaint for you, it may be worth playing with. Hope that helps!

      @@gutmicrobiomequeen You've given me the perfect answer, couldn't ask for a better one, you helped me big time by providing reasons why I would want to keep it up and also reasons to watch for why I would want to reduce! :) - being thin and very underweight is what guides me to push the starches, especially since I don't experience much of the negatives by drinking over 2L of water daily :)
