    I've been running my PC with no monitors for over a year now and it's totally life changing. People don't realize that not only do you have the ability to spawn as many monitors as you want in VR, but you can view them from whatever position is most comfortable, almost eliminating the neck and back pain of being seated at a desk for hours at a time.

    Been using immersed everyday for my work around 10+ hours for around 3 months now. You just need a good headstrap and with a powerbank or something on the back of your head for weight distribution. It does take some "getting used to", but after about a week, it gets really comfortable for long working sessions without any eye strain or anything. Oh! And get a charger with a long usb cable for continuous power...

    • @reality-rise

      Hell yeah, mate! Thanks! I've had a Kiwi head strap before for my Quest 2, but I never bothered buying another strap for my Quest 3 since I like lying down without anything poking the back of my head. But as you said, for working long sessions on an app like Immersed, another strap could come in handy.

      Same here about immersed. Work an 8+ hour work day every day in immersed for a couple months now. I just use the default head strap because it’s super light and have my Quest plugged in the whole time.

    To address the head strap discomfort, I added the Bobo VR M3 head strap. I removed the facial interface allowing the headset to float in front of my face. I prefer passthrough most of the time so this feels most natural as it allows me better peripheral vision. I have three batteries with two on the charging dock allowing me uninterrupted work and game play. The longest session so far has been 14 hours.
    Eye fatigue is possibly due to the focal point as you mentioned. I have a set of contact lenses specifically for VR with a prescription moving the focal point from about 1.3 - 1.5m to close of infinity. I've found with this setup my eyes don't get tired with prolonged use and the halo style strap is very comfortable for extended use. The batteries at the back do a great job of balancing the weight.
    With immersed it helps to have a proper GPU. On my gaming laptop I have a 4080. I don't seem to notice any performance degradation with virtual screens added. With my work laptop which has an on board Intel graphics chip every virtual monitor adds significant CPU load and as such I use a dummy HDMI dongle for the second screen.
    Gaming is great on the Quest, except for latency sensitive games. On Fortnite the latency is significant enough that I prefer to play on my 16 inch laptop screen. For most other games the latency is low enough that I don't notice it.
    I use both Virtual Desktop (best for gaming) and Immersed (best for productivity) and then also have Fluid for on the go connectivity in the cloud.

      Totally, original strap does not feel that bad until you try third party options like bobo vr or alternatives, and then try the original strap again. The original strap is ok for occasional VR use, some short gaming sessions. But then it starts to hurt, neck, face, forehead. With another head mount I can be in VR for hours without requiring a break.

    • @pgreeff
      @pgreeff 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      An update to my original comment, I've subsequently abandoned Immersed on my work laptop. The performance impact was just too great on the severely under powered laptop even with just one monitor. I've switched to HDMI Link for the work display as most of the time I only need the one screen, just larger and further away from my eyes.
      For gaming I've been experimenting and come to the conclusion that the only two pieces of software capable of streaming with low enough latency are Parsec and Moonlight (with Sunlight as the streaming server). With this setup I can stream from my Linux and windows gaming laptops with excellent latency and graphics performance at 120 Hz. I now play all my games in the headset including Fortnite.
      For me the headset has completely replaced the need for a large physical monitor. The only update I am still planning is an IP KVM for the work laptop so I can go completely wireless again.

      Sadly artificially limited to 2 monitors on Quest 2 and 3 monitors on Quest 3.
      When I was using Immersed, I had all of my 4 monitors in VR on the Quest 2 and it was as crisp as Virtual Desktop is (better than SteamVR, Bigscreen Beta and Oculus Link).
      However Immersed removed the physical display functionality, basically ruining the program for me - now it asks you to UNPLUG YOUR MONITORS if you have more than 1 physical monitor connected.
      So basically there is no way for me to have a bunch of physical monitors in VR, bummer.

    Your description of what the resolution of the virtual monitor looks like in the VR headset is the answer I have been seeking. I do not own a VR headset yet and have been looking at getting the Meta Quest 3 when I finally have enough extra money now that the headsets have gotten better and cheaper. I want one for VR gaming (especially Cyberpunk 2077) and maybe even watching movies or TV. However, my concern for movie watching is about the resolution difference in the headset compared to an actual physical TV or monitor. Sure you can make a movie as big as a theater-sized screen in VR. However, the resolution of the headset will cause pixels to be stretched to fit smaller sizes and pixel densities. In other words, I know full well that running in 4K on a TV and actually having that 4K fill that number of pixels. Will not look the same on a screen in a VR headset. It will be altering the original 4K image to fit in a smaller number of pixels. And I had yet to hear anyone put it in terms a tech person like myself can comprehend.
    The between 720p and 1080p appearance you say it gets close to isn't bad. Not as good as 4K of course. But that can often look good enough to be overlooked depending on what it is. Especially for older non-4K movies and shows. I am curious about the 3D movie experience too. How will the Avatar movies look if I can get them playing in 3D on it for example?
    Side note, I am planning to eventually connect a VR headset directly to my gaming PC once I build my next one for the increased options and visuals. So I am curious if that will improve it too. I've also heard you need Wifi6e or Wifi7 to get the best results.
    I am excited to tinker with all this stuff once I can finally get it though.

    Buy some comfortable headstrap instead of this default panties string. I have bobovr holo headstrap with their battery and additional 20000 mAh powerbank. I just finished playing 12 hours game session and i don't have any problems with headset or comfort. Immersed is good app when you figure out their controls and settings. For example you can turn off and on fingers tracking by touching your ring finger with thumb. But immersed audio streaming and some video streaming like TH-cam are bad.

    Immersed have a better quality than vd but there is a trick. If You have 1080p monitor will gave You that resolution inside immersed but if your pc is connected to 4k monitor then it will give You 4k resolution in immesred (its not native 4k but something between 2k and 4k) but anyway thats the solution and working on immersed its much better now

      @@reality-rise Hi, very interesting, I would like to use meta quest 3 for normal productivity (office 365, big queries in powerbi, some 3d modelling in sketchup and revit) no games, wen I'm not in office and I don't have 2 or 3 screens that I need. I wonder if I really need a laptop with an Nvidia GPU to do this (like said on meta website). I'm trying to use meta quest 3 on my samsung book with intel xe graphic (that by himself performs perfectly all 3d and queries) but I cannot use air link (doesn't even start) but only immersed agent but it is a mess, very nice view but the mouse is unusable. So I think I will change laptop, but I really don't like laptop with nvidia because they are too heavy. I would like to stay around 2.000€ not to much over. If you can help me it would be great: do I really need an NVIDIA GPU even if I don't play games to work with Meta quest 3?

    • @reality-rise
      @reality-rise  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      See it like this, in essence you're deploying two monitors at once at a certain resolution. If it comes to 3D graphics, I would always advice looking into some sort of dedicated GPU like Nvidia or AMD. The takeaway is, how many screens do you need in the app (which is multiplied by 2 since your Quest renders both eyes) and at what resolution are you going to render them? On top of that, the 3D work you're performing will be additional energy cost so take that into account.

      I see what you mean, if you download the APK for remote desktop as a third party and install it that way on your quest, it might work but the UI and usability will be worse since the design is for Android phones. Unfortunately the latest update to the agent ruins Immersed for anyone who has multiple physical monitors. Not only does it not show multiple physical monitors inside the app, it straight up tells you to unplug them rather than showing one physical and x virtual. Was using it just fine with two physical and two virtual prior. There's also allegations they're removing any posts pointing this out/critical of this from their official Subreddit and Discord, though I have not confirmed these allegations for myself.

      It will always lag behind dedicated monitors for the simple reason being that it is smaller, and unless the monitor window fills the entire screen, it, by definition, won't have as many pixels and won't have the same response time because unlike a monitor, you can do more than just view the window from one specific angle or size so there is more processing involved.
