By far my favorite version of the Enterprise although I prefer the paint job of the Enterprise-A a bit more. Same model, either way! It's amazing to think the lines of this model were laid down originally in 1977 and elaborated on just a bit later but it had the same primary designer as the original version -- Matt Jefferies. I know a lot of the histories give the credit for this solely to Andrew Probert or Probert, Joe Jennings, and Richard Taylor but this was based on the Phase II design which was Matt Jefferies. The Phase II design has virtually the same proportions except for slightly shorter nacelles, a different scallop to the "boat deck"(?) under the shuttlebay and cut-outs on the nacelle struts which were "filled back" into the 1979 design. The decals on the nacelle struts close to where they join the warp nacelles actually show where the cutouts were on the Phase II design! 40+ years later and they still haven't designed a better Enterprise or built a better motion picture miniature, IMHO. This design came from an era where there were so many classic science fiction ship designs in the late 1970s and early 1980s and this one still stands out as probably the most outstanding design in many people's minds.
Gonna have to agree with you about the Enterprise-A's paint job; that looks a lot more in the spirit of the original Enterprise (which was also white or light gray depending on scene & lighting) than the "bare metal" of the Enterprise-01 Refit (which like most TNG era ships, looks gray or pale blue depending on scene & lighting).
That's odd. One last thing sorry, would you recommend painting the base or is it fine to just decal without. The instructions said it wasn't entirely necessary. Thanks for your help!
You did a beautiful job but what I dont like about this kit is that the finished model does not look like what was on screen. At no time in any movie did we see this ship with black portholes or windows as if the lights were off. The lights were always on. Since lights would be the whitest white than the hull color would need to be darker, perhaps a grey or light grey color so that painted white lights would look illuminated. I know that grey is not the color of this ship but that is how it looked on screen. My version of this kit is grey and it was painstaking to paint pin pricks of white dots on the windows to give it the movie appearance. My issue with the kit is that the manufacturer does not make a set of decals with white windows. Nor does any 3rd party that I know of.

Hi, did you get the Aztec decal set included or did you buy separately? I got this kit as a gift for Xmas(new 2020 version) and no Aztecs!

Paint the windows in with sky blue. Works for me.
I’m having trouble snapping the saucer to the hull and also the nacelles to the pylons too. Help
They will fit but if you're stuck, cut off the locator pins and just use glue

The engines are purple actually an impulse is orange
You're welcome to make your own as opposed to criticising mine
And someone said that the Enterprise was supposed to be pearl white
