Absolutely beautiful work you've made. This is the reason why I love model kits. I would like for Polar Lights to produce and release Enterprise D and E.
🖖😎👍Very cool and very great spectacular awesome job indeed, She came out very nicely looking indeed, I myself have this kit in the 1:2500 scale that I still haven't put together yet and what is interesting is that this kit comes with all the decals plus the Aztec ones as well, but planning on putting it together very soon as soon as I finish my other projects first. Oh and you can pick this kit up at Walmart for just $29.95 plus tax.
Epic job in the Discovery Enterprise kit, it looks beautiful. It makes me want to get this Enterprise. I have the Enterprise NX-1 with Refit model kit by Polar Lights. The Enterprise series is underrated. My favorite Star Trek is TNG. Absolutely love the Enterprise D, especially E.
Yeah dude I rather enjoyed watching Star Trek Enterprise. Season 1 was rough but then totally went to the xindi wars oh baby! That's where things got very interesting. But yeah I would highly recommend you check out the nx-1 from Fuller lights it's definitely worth the purchase. The only downside is you're going to have to do some custom Aztec painting
How have the stock Polar Lights LEDS held up over time? Mine have dimmed to almost nothing after running them continuously for several hours after the build. Then they started blinking randomly. I luckily hadn't glued the nacelle halves together and I replaced the LEDS in there with a new kit supplied by PL. What I found was the motors had actually melted the plastic holders. So when I fixed it, I took the motors out. I replaced the harnesses with new. They've started to dim out again unfortunately. The lights in the saucer and engineering hull are starting to go too. Altogether, I've got less than 100 hours on these LEDS. It's frustrating.
Would love to see more on how you powered all the custom LED work that went in to this. The stock lighting kit is pretty subpar and I want to add a setup pretty much exactly as you show. I'm a novice with lighting and power sources though.
Hey, great looking kit, you are really talented. Thanks for telling us which LED's you were using, however I didn't see where you said anything about the motor in the nacelle, did that come with the kit? Or was it from Evan Design? Could you give me the info and specs for that motor? Thanks again.
I’ve got this ship… in Star Trek Online. Being able to fly and fight the ship is better than a plastic model that just catches dust (and I used to be a big kit maker in my youth so it’s not envy… and yeah, I used to hate dusting my models without breaking delicate parts off).
Back in the 1990's I was building the re-release kit of the Millenium Falcon. That version did not include the lighting kit that the original did. I also realised that the plastic was thin enough the lights would shine through it. I solved it by first, spraying the interior with a matt black (Testors paint applied with an airbrush). After that dried, I then sprayed over that with Testors silver paint. I thought the black would help block the light while the silver would reflect it around the inside of the model. I don't know if both layers were necessary (I would go with just the silver maybe) but it worked very well. The light only showed where I had the fibre optics, not through the plastic where the bulbs were.
It's a great looking model. I love what they've done to the Strange New Worlds Enterprise NCC-1701 look / design. Regarding the show... the officers' quarters on the SNW Enterprise put Picard's quarters on the TNG era "D" and "E" to shame.
Wow that looks incredible despite the inherent flaws of the model kit. It looks larger than it really is. Your custom lighting, as always, is top notch. I think that's what made this extra special. I do wish Polar Lights learn from their Asian model creators. I mean, even knock off Gundams from Daban are arguably better than their kits. Or someone just give the ST license to Bandai and be done with it.
My Bandai 1:850 Refit Enterprise is the one ST model I've had on constant display - must be close to 15 years now. A cleaner at my office knocked it off its shelf 6 month ago and broke where the stand connects and the nacelle mounting to the secondary hull. I was gutted; especially as they're nearly $300 to get ahold of now. I've just about got her back together, other than devising a new mechanism to mount her securely to the stand; can't let this one go!
My head in the end: these are the voyages of the star ship Enterprise, on its 5 year mission to seek out new life and new sivilications. Mr. Sulu take us out.
A pleasure to watch sir, I do believe they will be issuing the kit with a new re-worked lighting system, Also a side note, an interior for their shuttle craft.
Hello my friend..great build. ..I just wish they would make a larger kit 1/350 scale..and thoes blinking lights are called navigation lights my good friend..but you were truly right..about the extra things you had to buy..that should come with the kit..they truly didn't treat us fans to good with these new kits. And they are to small..😢
I LOVE this build - this outside of 1701-D is my favorite ship. One thing though. One thing, well the only thing I see wrong is you have the motors on the wrong side. If you are looking at the ship from the saucer, the one on the left should be turning clock wise, as the one on the right should be turning counter clock wise. Just like how real plane blades work.
Awesome build, thank you for sharing. I am also not a fan of the metallic hull and I am happy to see someone like you go with the white- really makes the Aztec decals pop!
Videos like this showcase the fact that these kits really should be tested/vetted by fans and builders in the same way that video games go through play-testing or movies get preview audiences. Every single model kit on the market from Star Trek to Gundam is accompanied by no less than 30 TH-cam videos of fans and builders modifying these kits just to get them up to screen-accurate snuff. Many of them having to resort to off-the-cuff DIY ideas like you did with your nacelle lights. There's no reason why these kits shouldn't come screen-accurate ready for the money we're dishing out.
A really LED intensive build. I love it! Love the challenge. I'm learning a lot from you. I'm putting LED's on my Sazabi now. More power OB! Abet from The Philippines.
Hey guys, starting this kit and finding this video to be a helpful guide! One thing I'm not clear on, do you glue the nacelles/hull/saucer together once you finish wiring? You have to to prevent light leakage, right? How do you go about that so you don't have any excess end up outside the model? Do you try to erase the seam with some puddy and sanding or just rely on the decals? Any guidence is appreciated. Thanks!

Very good build indeed ! I was planning on using some of the things you did in your build in my own however I'm having issues tracking down all the light colors and types on their website you used. Any help would be great thanks!
Fellow model builder here... I did love it when the aztec decals CAME with the kit and you didn't have to spend another $30-50 extra for the aztec decals. I mean seriously? Just include the aztec decals with the kit like they were doing before when they first released the 1/350th Refit Enterprise kit. I was happy it came with aztec decals. Of course when I got the model again a few years later I was a little annoyed I had to spend another $60 on the aztec decals.
So you powered all the lights with 3 volt DC, but had to power the Bussard lights and motors with 4.5? Which is also the only thing you used from the light kit?
Great job on the kit! I just bought the Revell 1/500 Enterprise from the JJ Abrams movies. I’d like to add lighting as well. Any suggestions on what lights to use for that kit?
LOVE that you went with the ORANGE color on the BUSSARD COLLECTORS & the DARK GRAY color behind the GOLD deflector dish really provides a visual punch to the front of the hull. The only negative is the Aztec decals RUIN the great paint job you did with the ship, it seems to glossy and busy visually.
Yikes! I can't imagine how how managed that. It was much easier for me on the 1701 refit in 1:350 scale. I was simply blessed with somewhere to display it!
I know, this is 2 years old and may not receive an answer but at @24:41 you paint the saucer burnt iron. Was that only for the inside, but painted the outside the same as nacelles, being, mission models insomniac white?
I love the ship, I’m building it now. But yes, to jack up the price for the lighting kit was a big pass for me. That, and there was NO paint guide which was quite disappointing. But it’s still an amazing ship
I noticed when you are painting the parts, you use both acrylic and enamel or lacquer based paints. I thought a person could not use them together. Am I missing something in your videos or can they be used together? I am just now getting into using an airbrush and am trying to pic up some tips from TH-cam videos.
Great job on that model. I just put in for the die-cast 1/350th scale Enterprise from TOMY. I always want an original Enterprise in metal. You said that your model ran you about $200.00? I don't feel so bad about the money I spent now(kind of)..lol
Components for model kits like this are sold separately for a reason. Some people may not want to light their models for whatever reason. Or some people think that they can light the kit better than the 'official' light kit. Same with decals, some people may not like wallpaper decals for whatever reason and again, others may think that they can do better. This happens across the full range of kits, from ships to planes. I may not like or want the 'official' photoetch set to an airplane. By selling these items separately, a modeler has more choice on their own project, commitment and budget.
I think the cost of this kit in UK is disgusting. Average cost £80, not including anything else. In the States cost varies a bit but in around 45 to 54 Dollars. Now I get that Polar Lights trade cost plus import costs, and importers profit, plus model stores profit wont allow a Dollar to Pound pricing, but £80 is a rip off in my opinion, and the low blow is they expect you to pay more for the missing decals. Yes I say missing as not including the aztecs, which they have in the past included, strikes me as exploitative. The lighting kit is over priced as well, even taking the bussard collector motors into account. I managed to find the kit in Europe and paid £60, which is better, but still too much. I recall buying Startrek models back in the 70s, 80s and 90s and similar sized kits cost nothing near these prices. The Ktinga class Klingon Battle Cruiser kit that came out a year ago was something I would like, but £150, not including lighting kit. Sorry nope, not going to happen. Nice video, build, and background music.
I couldn't agree more. The cost in the UK is ridiculous ,I think with the kit, lights and decals you're looking at over £200! I'm afraid at those rip-off prices, I'm out.
I got mine for $45 on Ebay and it came with a 1/1000 Enterprise Refit kit with battle damage decals. It was $45 for both as the refit kit usually retails for around $30. I might think about the light kit later.
The water slide problem have been fixed since the 1st batch and the corrected instruction for those that got the 1st batch have been on their website for months. Also, They need to keep the cost of the kit low enough for the casual modeler that may not want to go through the whole process of lighting it and doing all the Aztec decals. I don't mind the price at all considering that their sales volume is so much less that an average Bandai kit. However, I do want to see them move up to Bandai/Japanese model companies precision and injection molding standard.
Were you painting the bussard caps both inside and out? I really couldn't tell... Also, did you use the same power source, or did your custom lighting require less or more batteries?
For the bussard collectors I painted just the inner part of the cup. Not the outer part as for the power supply for the starship they are both being run by separate power supplies. My original plan was to connect the Wharton to cells to the main body but I didn't have any spare capacitors lying around so I had to separate them individually.
I find it strange that they are using normal motors instead of quartz watch drives. The quartz drives would be almost silent and adjustable speed. They would be far easier to make and replace if needed.
The trouble with these kits the plastic are always flimsy . I don't know if these star trek kits sells them with proper thick plastic around $500 and lights all in one
Gotta be honest, I really feel like the aztec decals ruins it. I think if the decals were much much lighter it would look more accurate. I know the screen used models have the dark aztec, but it's more like that for film and in-camera the pattern is a bitt more subtle. just my opinion though, your build is excellent!
Back in my day, I had all the models and combined none of them Cost that much! Even the collective Enterprise golden version. The Peter and Plastic all cost less than 50.00 even the exploding enterprise D with lights and sound cost less. WTF
Your builds are amazing. Even more impressive is the production level of your videos. The editing, music, and structuring are soooo good. Well done.
While, I'm not a Discover fan, I think we can all (for the most part) agree that's a sweet looking ship. Great job on the model!

Your work is amazing, how many hours go into the planning of a kit like this, having to find just the right leds I bet it’s a lot
Yikes! I can't imagine how how managed that. It was much easier for me on the 1701 refit in 1:350 scale. I was simply blessed with somewhere to display it!
Muito linda 🖖🖖🖖
I'm still waiting for the 'rocking out' part. Will it hurt?
The custom work is outstanding. When building the buzzard motors did you glue those parts together?
I would utterly differ with you on the definition of hardcore fan, as to me it would be the opposite. However, great job!
I know, this is 2 years old and may not receive an answer but at @24:41 you paint the saucer burnt iron. Was that only for the inside, but painted the outside the same as nacelles, being, mission models insomniac white?
If I could go back In time I would paint the the saucer section with a "Burn Iron " from Vallejo.
Can you do a custom build with your exact changes and sell them? I would be very interested in buying one of these from you.
I love the ship, I’m building it now. But yes, to jack up the price for the lighting kit was a big pass for me. That, and there was NO paint guide which was quite disappointing. But it’s still an amazing ship
So question for you then. On the blinking LED,s how did you get them to blink at the same time? did you tie in a board to a string or seperat LED?
How do you contend with light leaks on seams?
I really like that mission model insomniac white but I can't find it anywhere. They stop making it? Oh it's insignia white.
where did you get the model kit and led kit?
I noticed when you are painting the parts, you use both acrylic and enamel or lacquer based paints. I thought a person could not use them together. Am I missing something in your videos or can they be used together? I am just now getting into using an airbrush and am trying to pic up some tips from TH-cam videos.
Great job on that model. I just put in for the die-cast 1/350th scale Enterprise from TOMY. I always want an original Enterprise in metal. You said that your model ran you about $200.00? I don't feel so bad about the money I spent now(kind of)..lol
I noticed at 12:23 the nipper blade snapped. A part of me pains for you. 😢
Yeap! Those nipper aren't cheap either 😫
This is beautiful!!! What color did you use for the hull? I’m planning on getting this kit I just can’t for the life of me figure out what to use!
Do you have full web address for the place where you bought the led lights from. Want to get the kit and light it as well.
@@OtakuBuilder Actually that works better and gets you close to a startup sequence.
I wish I could just buy these models already put together.
Sorry for asking, but, where can I find the kit? Greetings from Spain
Need to learn about blinking lights
14:28. Don't be that guy Steve. Urg. Sorry. It's the Secondary hull. Not main hall.
I find it strange that they are using normal motors instead of quartz watch drives. The quartz drives would be almost silent and adjustable speed. They would be far easier to make and replace if needed.
Just a comment
for the algorithm.
The bussard motors are rotating in the wrong direction. They should rotate in not out.
Couldn't you use dielecteic paint and just glue the lights to the paint?
Dude why the heck did you paint it white?!?! I’ve seen it painted gray and metallic silver but white??? This ain’t the motion picture.
The trouble with these kits the plastic are always flimsy . I don't know if these star trek kits sells them with proper thick plastic around $500 and lights all in one
I just printed out a 1/1000 scale USS Daedalus.

WTF
Will you be doing a discovery model?
Discovery on the shows very chrome silvery surprised they had the light grey white
Well I'm not a fan of the metallic look for the Starships. I went for more of a gray white look because I like the original designs aesthetic.🦊💙
I thought he might spray it with Citadel Paint Leadbelcher (Warhammer hobbyist here). Was also surprised he went with the gray white.
Rodney Krezek to me star wars is more the grey white while trek has more silver chrome stainless steel in a logical sense
