    I like the fact that you advocate for supported shooting on a hunt. Granted, some may run into a whitetail in the thick woods and do a off-hand, but really, use what you have to support the shot.

    I guide full time in MT both for fishing and big game hunting. I’ve been a die hard fan of the 7mm RM for a long time and think it’s the best balance of down range energy vs recoil. Cool to see another guide advocating for it. Great video

    • @Guidedhunts
      @Guidedhunts  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Appreciate you watching. There are many, many calibers that will do the job. But the 7mm rm is a great choice ballisticly. And it easy to find ammo for.

      @samhall5758 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Guidedhunts you’re exactly right there are many calibers that will do the job but I’ve seen enough people flinch and miss on a routine shot because they were scared of their rifle. Almost always a huge 300 or 338 magnum. That 7mm Rem Mag is just the perfect balance

      With that said. A .308 is interesting. I see its @ 1500 + ftlbs at 400 yards. Good for deer. But not for Elk?@Guidedhunts

      @woodworm3615 308 is good out to 400 for elk in my opinion. I had a hunter shoot an elk at 330 yards with a 7mm08. Worked great.

    Enjoy your videos. I run a custom turret also . But I k learned a lesson this year . I used to set my gun up for max point blank range . But with the custom turret I was zeroed at 100 as in eastern Canada most shots are close . But a nice buck crossed a narrow field while I was waiting for my son . I had no time to range or adjust my turret. So everything was a guess in under 4 seconds. I missed. 280-300 yards was the distance i stepped off after the shot . 30/06 150g ttsx . Just my experience. Maybe I should have been dialed at 250 as that’s close to mpbr for 30-06

    • @Guidedhunts
      @Guidedhunts  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am glad you like the videos. So my turret is zeroed at 200 and I usually don't have to even touch my turret till after 250 yards. That might have helped with that quick shot. Anyway appreciate the comment.

    I have a couple of questions for you, 1 who do you guide for? and 2, how is the recoil on that Tikka? I have the T3x with the veil camo and threaded barrel in 270 WSM. it now has an MDT XRS chassis on it and I killed my white tail with it at 605. And now my kid has one in 6.5 prc. he's a lefty and I strongly considered that model you have but lefty, I was just a bit concerned with the recoil.

      Look up Trophy Ridge Outfitters. That's who I work for. I would say it kicks a fair amount out of 1 to 10. I would say a 6 or 7. He wrote, " A lot going on with that rifle especially that isn’t conducive to long range shooting or hunting." - talking about your setup. Thus, I'm questioning how a quality rifle (Tikka), and a quality scope with a custom turret (Huskemaw), and good ammo (162 ELDX) are not conducive to long range shooting or hunting. As of this week I now own more than 20 Tikka rifles and about that many custom built rifles and every single one will perform to my satisfaction at long range, much to the dismay of my future dinners on 4 legs
