    The first shot out of a clean barrel is often a little slower, and often hits a little lower. Some benchrest shooters "foul" the barrel with some powdered graphite ("dri-lube" lock lube type stuff), and most F-Class shooters just take a fouling shot before chronographing or shooting for groups.
    People have a lot of theories, but the best seems to be that there is still some oil/lubricant in the barrel after cleaning, and thus the first shot is shooting with lower friction, which makes lower peak pressure, which results in lower velocity. Seems to make sense to me.
    This is a great shooting gun and some great shooting on your part. Nice seeing .28 Nosler at work.

    I walked my factory savage tactical with box ammo out from 500 to 1k no issues at all. Then jumped right to a 1 moa target at 1k and got it. Then took it to 1500. I'm very impressed. I was shooting 300Wm.

      Nice job. They usually are capable rifles. What surprised me is for such a lightweight rifle how well it did. Thanks for watching.

    That's great shooting for a lightweight hunting rig.
    Paul did a great job tailoring those loads for the rifle.
    My final test after getting a hunting rifle dialed in, is to see how it does first shot cold bore at 200 yards the next day if possible.
    Cold bore, cold shooter, cold morning.

      I'm considering a 6.5 prc. I run a 6.5 needmore. 147gr ELDM @2800 fps. give or take a little 140gr ELDM @2820 give or take a little, 130gr Gamechanger at 2950 give or take fps from a 26" Criterion MTU. I'm busted up and full of shrapnel so lighter recoil is my preference. Being able to use some of the same components is a big plus also for the 6.5 creed and 6.5 prc.

    I almost bought a ultralight. In a 280AI rifle. But it had a 22 inch barrel. And a 1@9 twist barrel. So I went with a Xbolt. A Hells Canyon Speed Long Range 280AI. It has a 1@8 twist and a 26 inch barrel. A heavy sporter flutted barrel. I wanted to get the best velocity out of the round. I have several boxes of Hornady ELD bullets. In 162 gr X and M. A 175 gr X and 180 gr M bullets. I am hoping to shoot ELD M 180 gr. And the 1@9 mite not stabilized them. Just have to decide on a scope. I looked at the Leupold VX5 3-15x44 mm CDS. And a VX6 3x18x50 mm CDS.

      The factory bolts have a lot of up and down and side to side movement, but there is an aftermarket bolt body from PTG for Savage rifles 110. The PTG bolt body cost is long action $209.00 from MIDWAY USA. I placed the factory bolt body on my 110 Tactical in 308W. I made other changes to the Savage 110 rifle the bolt less stress on the bolt lift.

    • @Guidedhunts
      @Guidedhunts  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I believe if it's a hunting rifle, and it gets shot 50 times a year on average. Then I would say you would get many years of hunting out of it before a barrel needs replaced. Thanks for watching.

      @steverutkowski8141 it kicked less than my tikka 7mm rem mag because it had the brake. Honestly, for as lightweight as this Savage is, I was surprised at how well it did on target at distance. It would make a fantastic mountain rifle. Actually, it would be great for anyone looking for a lightweight gun to carry and hunt with.

    Your fathers in laws 7prc will shoot 3k using factory ammunition if it has a 24inch barrel. Just not with newly produced Hornady they had to change the powders due to availability after they got testing done. But the early lots will shot the 3k out of a 24 inch barrel. Try the Federal ammunition with the eld x bullet loaded in it.

    • @Guidedhunts
      @Guidedhunts  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I saw that ammo on the shelf the other day. Didn't even realize Federal loaded Hornady bullets. It did shoot great with factory Hornady, so we stayed with Hornady. Thanks for watching.

    • @ronws2007
      @ronws2007 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Guidedhunts I have already read the technical bulletin from Hornady and yes, they had to change because the original powder they were using, I think it was RL 26, had a shortage. But Federal, being part of a bigger company, has more access to the right powders and are getting closer to 3,000 fps. I have a 7 PRC in another brand. I have quite a bit of the PH 175 gr ELD-X. I don't have a chrono but even if I change the MV to 2800, I am still going to enjoy this round for accuracy and performance. Primarily, I am a hunter and I doubt I will be shooting at game past 700 yards. At 700 yards, the bullet is still over 2,000 fps.
      If I change to the CX Outfitter for specific monolithic performance, that brings it in to 650 yards, which is still fine. And whitetail where I hunt, you can't get a clear shot past 300 yards, anyway.
      A lot of people love the .28 Nosler, even if it chews up barrels for the experimenter. As opposed to your client, who is simply testing and handloading to get a consistent point of impact.

    • @Guidedhunts
      @Guidedhunts  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @ronws2007 I like the 28 nosler and 7mm prc. If I had to choose, I probably would go with the 7 prc. Just for the fact, it was designed to shoot heavy, long, high bc bullets. And it would be a hunting gun. Thanks for watching.
