The locals consider them “indestructible.” But the law-in the form of a corrupt special deputy (Guy Pearce)-wants a cut of their action, at any cost. When youngest brother Jack (LaBeouf) gets a taste of power with a deadly gangster (Gary Oldman) the whole business blows sky high. Based on the astonishing true story, the Bondurant brotherhood is the stuff of legend.

Guy Pierce is incredible. He is totally different in each character he plays. You have to look close to recognize him. Great actor.
Same with Tom Hardy. Compare him here to say Warrior or Venom.

Tom Hardy does not get the respect he should. Every role he plays is completely, 100% believable. Absolutely fantastic actor. If your unsure watch "Taboo".

I thought the movie was terrible. Tom Hardys scenes were great but he gets like 5 minutes of screen time. The rest of the movie was super boring.

Much of which were true occurrences...which makes it cooler...Jack was shot at the bridge, and forrest did have his throat cut...rakes character was exaggerated, he really weren't from Chicago, Howard did kill him at the bridge by stabbing...and the Bondurant Brothers did sell moonshine to floyd Banner...how can you not like this movie?...Are you affected in the head? Jk...lol

I love how Forrest notices Rakes walking over to the girl, so he takes the opportunity to walk over to the commonwealth attorney and neutralize Rakes by basically saying, "you touch her, I end him." Without having to say it.

Few actors can pull off the cold stare. Pacino, Deniro, Denzel Washington...and a handful of others. But Tom Hardy is certainly in the club

I had no idea who Tom Hardy was when this movie first came out. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more badass character in a movie. Right up there with Clint Eastwood’s Dirty Harry and Val Kilmer’s Doc Holliday.

Guy Pierce deserves my respect. Incredible efficient actor.
I’ve seen maybe fifteen movies twice or more, this is one of those movies.
A lot of the greatness lies in the utterly brilliant casting. Same thing with Out of the Furnace with Christian Bale, Woody Harrelson and Casey Affleck. When a movie is perfectly performed, it hits you with a ton of bricks.

Tom Hardy is an amazing actor. It amazes me how he can play a country boy from America. I grew up with ol timers just like this. He got it spot on👌

The “Don’t you ever touch me again” wasn’t a threat it was a promise.
But I think Rakes sealed his fate when he made a move on the girl and intimidated her. That signed his death warrant with Forrest

Thats when you know someone is a great actor, when their roles instantly make you like or dislike them. I HATED this character and didnt even realize it was Pierce at first.
I haven't hated a character this awesomely since Cullin Crisp in Kindergarten Cop. Guy was perfect!

I love how the intense ambient sound grows louder as tom hardy thinks how drawing his gun on the detective would play out, you can see that primal urge to kill in his eyes and when he realizes he most likely would lose with the other 3 deputies around him his focused eyes relax and the ambient sound cuts out. Beautiful!

I dunno who he talked too but he’s got the part of the scariest sum buck in the woods down to a Tee. A lot of old timers were spitting image of this role.

One born in Cambridge. One born in London. Great British actors. Both immerse themselves into each role so fully they're almost unrecognisable between movies. You'd never say that about De Nero. Or Pacino. Good as they are.

The way Hardy looks stone cold at Pearce makes @3:11 makes me immediately think of that scene in Jurassic Park where the hunter is explaining how when the one raptor looks at you, she's just figuring things out. Then his eyes soften and he grunts then shuffles away.
That's exactly the metaphor I was gonna make only with a mountain lion hahaha. My Dad said him and his buddy were camping one time and they woke up after a night of drinking and one was sitting a few feet away just watching them, my dad said it looked like it was deciding something and then after a bit it just got up and lazily walked away , he said it gave him chills and he wondered how long it had been there before he woke up too. That's exactly what that part reminds me of. The metaphor you used is just as perfect and accurate for me.
All I wanted to see in this film was forest and rakes have a one on one brawl, knowing forest would win but I wanted to see his full force of strength
Haha me too, I would've loved a Forest vs Rakes fist fight! Avengers End Game robbed us of a true Hulk vs. Thanos showdown too....a real showdown more accurate and fitting to the Hulk's strength.

The real forest was a stick but he had good height, and the whole bridge ending was inaccurate, it would've been nice movie wise but since they already headed to the rainbows and sunshine ending I think it would've been too much and ruined the realism and authenticity the movie aura/theme had
When Pearce had said, "He already has (regretted it), he just doesn't know it yet," and then asked Hardy if he was thinking of drawing on him, I always thought a great line from Hardy would have been, "I already have. You just don't know it yet." ;-)
and had his revolver in his sweater pocket so he could just casually put his hand in there and point it at Mr. Douchebag before anyone knew it

@UnknownGomez Yeah that's what I heard too. And I think the answer is yes. In fact I'd say Forrest was thinking of doing a lot more than just drawing. He just knew that wasn't the time or the place.
Guy Pearce's most impressive role !
This is the best villain I have ever seen. I hate no one in cinema more than deputy Rakes.
That pale yellow oil drum with the rust on it is an amazing set piece, very underrated performance in fact. It almost blends into the background but still, it subtly helps decorate the scene while complimenting the other set pieces. I don't know how it didn't win an award, the judges were probably too interested in the plank 4th from the top of the building on the right of it and admiring it's russet tones. Don't worry off yellow and slightly rusted oil drum, you'll get a chance some day. Perhaps in your next feature you can be brought a little further forward in a scene than you are here, maybe even a stuntman can be thrown over you. Keep up the good work oil drum, I appreciate you ❤️

The tension between Guy Pearce and Tom Hardy is palpable in this scene. When Pearce and asks Hardy “Are you thinking of drawing old me son?“ the score denotes just the perfect amount of tension. You can even hear an insect fly by that ties a bowtie on it. Terrific scene.

Maaaaannn this is one of my favorite movies!! Tom Hardy does his thing!! His acting ability is crowned like a king...However Guy Pearce from LA confidential blew me away I just recognized that that was him!! I've seen this movie probably 30 times and did not recognize that was him till just now...Love when actors get truly engaged in there roles and have the ability to play different parts great job Guy!! Another profound actor.

This is a seriously underrated movie. It's also one of the most perfectly casted movies to come out in years.
Except for Shia Labeauf .....I am from Appalachia.....his dialogue is way off sometimes.....
@@bmphil3400 it is. He sounds more east Texas than Appalachian. Unfortunately, most folks don't know the difference in southern accents.
I told my wife I could have gone to a couple of southern colleges and found someone that was and expert on the dialects, to use as a coach, and made a better movie....and I don't think it would have cost that much.....

My favorite is actually the end, where Charlie asks if Forrest is thinking of drawing on him, and Forrest just kind of grunts like "not today"
Tom Hardy here, and in Peaky Blinders, has mastered the arts of non-verbal intimidation, even wearing a Danny Thomas lookin' cardigan sweater. Watch it w/o sound and he's even more convincing, but his short terse responses and delivery are perfect! :)
