You know, you got to love movies. Sure, it's a cool scene there in the first clip. But in the 1960s, in the Bronx, no New York native would confuse what was going on when a random Italian guy in a three piece suit shows up and tells you it's time to go.
I think Bullet Tooth Tony is what epitomizes a TRUE gangster. 1. He isn't afraid to die 2. He can back up his words with violence 3. Even though he's fully prepared to kill someone, he'd prefer to just scare them so much that they don't consider ever fucking with him again
"Look at me. I'm the one who did this to you. Remember me" I'm hardwired to never let that go. I'd just keep coming back better prepared til I win or die.
It's more entertaining when you realise that only an enthusiast would have a Desert Eagle - it's not got the utility of a high capacity modern semi-auto, like a glock 17 - but is also the sort of guy who'd notice they were replicas during a holdup early enough that, not only doesn't he act worried, he doesn't even actually draw his own 'self-defence' weapon in response (at least not to threaten them with. He puts it on the table, but he doesn't brandish it).
2:30 This is what I love about Scorcesse & De Niro's directing styles. Only those men could play a love song over a big fight, and have it work perfectly.
The reason Scorsese did this was because when he was growing up in the Bronx he would look out of a window to his right and hear music, you know "doo wop" playing and look to his left and see somebody getting a beating, it was a soundtrack to the hood and the happenings. De niro grew up around the corner so it would be sort of the same I guess.
