When youngest brother Jack (LaBeouf) gets a taste of power with a deadly gangster (Gary Oldman) the whole business blows sky high. Can I just say the marksmanship on display here is a sight to behold. Can you imagine the discipline and control it takes not to hit anything with a shotgun at that range, that man has skill.
He hit what he was aiming at.

That’s actually a pretty good distance for a shotgun, especially at the time. It probably didn’t have a choke on it either which controls the shot spread distance. Basically unless you were shooting slugs at that distance you probably were going to miss at least 60% of the rounds you fired. And even if you managed to hit something the velocity was tamped down substantially the further the buckshot traveled.
And just how many shotgun duels have you had expert?

I would have loved to see a lot more of Howard in this movie. The man was a force of nature
I’d be more scared of Howard than Forrest. Forrest has some slick tricks but Howard looks all brute force, country boy corn fed diet.

Howard as he's depicted is quite nearly a cryptid, he's someone people tell campfire stories about. He makes moonshine and protects his family and is literally a force of nature when disturbed. His screams alone terrified a group of armed officers and he moves like an animal.

Plot Twist: every Sasquatch sighting ever was just a Bondurant drunk on moonshine in the woods.
Howard does more damage than all the gun shots in this movie together.

In the Book Jack does pull the trigger but unfortunately the gun was empty as Jack had already shot both barrels prior and in the panic forgot about it
Ufff, imagine putting a double barrel shotgun to someone’s face and pulling the trigger only to have it click on empty. You don’t want to put yourself in that situation a 2nd time.

Takes about 7 pounds of direct instantaneous force. So not too strong.

Having it set after America had already been largely urbanized and the wild west era was over would make to much like GTA or Mafia II. It needs that freedom and lawlessness pf the the 1800s to work.

That was an original WWI trench gun, model 1897 Winchester pump. They came with a barrel shroud and a bayonet lug. They had a 20" tube and took Springfield 03A3 bayonets

Alcohol in the US is such a good ol' boys club situation. Lawyer's becoming doctors to put it in medicine, tax, embedded tax, the process of getting your federal license, then your state license, having your label approved, recipes approved... and then hopefully just hopefully you can make some money.

Depends if the older ones try to keep the younger one out of trouble or not. Hardy said his character was actually a maternal character since the boys were orphans I guess Howard was like the Father and then the youngest is like their child type dynamic. The are protective of him so he's not as tough 'cept in that scene he tries to protect the preachers daughter he likes. He goes out shooting at the law man later gets shot himself before they finally kill that agent. Forrest had his throat slit moonshine is dangerous business.
