Pixel 8 Pro & Enhanced Zoom: Is Samsung Secretly Calling the Shots?

- I think that Samsung may have a secret deal with Google that limits Google's ability to launch and announce some of their AI features that aren't exclusive to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, and maybe Google hasn't announced the arrival of enhacned zoom because Samsung hasn't released it's own version yet.

I’ve been saying this for years. It seems to me that Google never goes all out on their phones because of Samsung. I used to think years ago that Google was afraid that Samsung would go with their own OS Tizen or whatever it was called and to prevent that, they basically left the flagship market behind. Sure Pixel phones are branded as Flagship, but we’ve never had a pixel phone that has ever trumped what Samsung has put out Flagship wise, it’s always missing something.
I can agree with you on that, and also they can develop the software, because they probably have more liquid money that Samsung, so it would be more profitable to sell than put it in their phones.
Google finally paid for product placement and got the Pixel Pro into a movie (Drugstore June).
If the tech is licensed to Samsung this makes sense. Samsung pushes Android more successfully than any other singular OEM and is best poised to counter the rising global marketshare increase that Apple is seeing.
9:04 Is it because Google see Samsung as one that has a stronger marketing base to push the product out faster? It could be the case. I'm sad to hear that no one is excited to see any Ai features on phones this means customers may want things that can actually enhance their lives. This means that more brainstorming must be done to create compelling useful Ai features on phones. Well it is what it is at this moment. 😎💯💪🏿👍🏿
U have to straighten the astronaut photos. Lol
The Samsung S23/24's etc. are great phones, But the Pixel 8 Pro, while a little buggy, is still my favorite Android phone outside of Huawei & Xiaomi. And you can buy the Pixel 8 Pro for $750 new. Thats a deal!
I feel the same. The only reason I'd give it away would be if they made a smaller Pixel Pro bc for me the current one is tablet sized (am smol).
I always thought the two should work together to make Android the best it can be.
You're entertaining AF one of my favorite things about you!
It seems Samsung has become Google's preferred software partner. Samsung has most of the Pixel "exclusive" features.
In addition to that, Galaxy and pixel phones are the only Android devices that have accessible cameras for the blind and visually impaired. If you want an accessible camera on any other Android phone, you have to Sideload A port of the Google Camera.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU FOR QUESTIONING GOOGLE ABOUT ENHANCED ZOOM
You're welcome
Haha maybe they are just letting Samsung test the rollout and see what's wrong with it before they release for pixel 😂😂😂.
I think Google testing the waters through Samsung and then release the polished version with Pixel.
It seems Pixel 8 should receive sparse AI feature such as generative AI summarisation in recorder and generation in messages app. Google engineer did say Gemini nano with full AI features and always running in background is a memory hog. Camera features can be pushed via app updates
Wouldn't going with Samsung first give Google instant market share with their features
How if Samsung renames them and incorporates them into their UI?
Off topic but is SaraJAwesome your wife?? I used to watch all of her Tesla YT vids when she was active. Cool!
Yup. She’s my wife.
Well in the United States Samsung is android so that's probably why. Off topic but I just picked up a new 8 pro for 350 from Facebook. What smart watch do you recommend?
Pixel Watch for sure. Although a Galaxy Watch would work as well
@@ronsolo1151 I just think the pixel watch is too small ihsve the 45 mm apple watch now
Adam how about that comment
What’s the reasoning for them to do this.
Money
You're probably right. It does seem odd.
TL;DR: circle to search announced by google at a samsung event.
Circle to search was NOT announced by samsung. It was announced by google Hiroshi Lockheimer & Cathy edwards (both google VPs) ON samsungs stage. This was after samsung announced a muti-year "partnership" in AI research beteeen them and google on stage. They did what any partnership would do and announce it together. 🙄
Good insight. Honestly I think people are so use to Apple's narcissist playbook so when others collaborate, and work to be interoperable they almost cop flack and do at times, but really it's what we all should want so we have choice and competition.
They have a contract that samsung will supply hardware while google will take care of software, it's just give and take
First thing first, google is mainly a software company, samsung is a hardware company.
I have a feeling that the only reason google release pixel phones as a platform to showcase their software features.
Remember free google photos storage in pixel 1-5, i think google try to promote google one through them.
They literally sell software to anyone interested buying, be it consumers or even b2b companies such as Samsung
So if you're pixel user, but didn't get the latest software/AI feature but samsung phones get it, big chance samsung paying more than what pixel user spend..lol
Probably because Samsung phone hardware and chipset are not capable to have these features first
Wouldn't surprise me at all, it's been going in that direction for a while there ie. 50% of the 7 pro is all Samsung Components. Samsung calls the shots on the hardware (keeping all the good stuff for themselves). While Google develops the OS and sells its Software to anyone who is willing to buy ie. This and the apple/Google. Meanwhile we Pixel owners are treated to crappy hardware and software testing for other Cellphone manufacturers to benefit from.
It's no secret they've said publicly years ago that they would be collaborating together and it's clear samsung has property that Google wants but just because you add value to something doesn't mean you own it. It's clear samsung has tons of property that Google and Apple would love to develop and play with but it looks like samsung is doing exactly what i thought they would, by acquiring property while not relinquishing anything. They have put themselves in great spot. Why would you allow another company to benefit from your property exclusively. You wouldn't. Google just has to take the back seat right now, price may be too high to acquire and may not be for sale at all according to plans. When customers ask for something for years and the company can't give it, there's a reason. If you look closely in the past 2 years you'll see what samsung has acquired from the field and what the field has acquired from samsung, but samsung has a grip on everything for now, just hasn't took the market over sales wise yet, in my humble opinion.
If they don't deliver this feature, could Google be taken to court for false advertising?
Why not?
Nice video
Thanks bro.
Pixels won't get Gemini because tensor has too weak NPU. Fun fact you were saying that tensor is future proof for a.i features to come , I can assure you you have no idea what u were talking about there's a.i benchmarks and tensor g3 is slower than 8gen1 npu .. It will not be able to ever run offline a.i features while the s24u literally has a toggle to run everything offline.
Imagine saying that tensor is futureproof while the npu is slower than 8gen1 and the s24u has 90% faster npu than 8gen2 in order to do what it does ( according to Qualcomms presentation for 8gen3)
How is tensor future proof when its more than 90% slower than the one than can do it offline and still struggles and takes some about 10 seconds to ..erase something from a photo.
Lol the tensor will take minutes XD
The fact that you think the SD8G1 has a 90% faster npu tells me you don’t know what you’re talking about. The g3 npu is also identical for the pixel 8/8 pro and isn’t the reason that the pixel 8 has hardware limitations.
@TechOdyssey I never said 8gen1 has 90% faster npu. 8gen3 has 90% faster npu compared to 8gen2 and 8gen1 is behind both of these and tensor is even behind 8gen1.
Maybe Samsung is the Adc and Google is tank/support
Adam, I have to tell you, this was one of many reasons i continue with listening to you. You pick up on info, where others don't. The other reviewers of cellphones pick it up way down the road. You have an intuitive mind when it comes to this.
Thanks Ron. I appreciate it. It's probably because of my elite detective instinct from my basic investigation course I took as a military police officer two decades ago 😂

Adam, I have to ask you about a problem with my 7a pixel. But it is a concern, and sometimes, Google Assistance comes on by itself, even when it's not activated. Sometimes I am speaking out loud to myself, and the assistant response, without me pressing anything. Could this be a defect in the A.I.
Adam, i think that Google in the cellphone business isn't going to be there in the future.
Interesting thought. Maybe maybe not. We shall certainly see.
It's normal. Most people knew Samsung than Google Pixel, so for Google to let people to know what they're doing, I think Samsung is the best option than Google Pixel. After all, Android is for Google.
I will say this: I hope that Google continues to sell hardware (particularly in Europe) that is dev-friendly and accessible, and if not, there's Nothing too now.
I wish they would open up all of the features for everyone and not isolated to the United States
@@TechOdyssey This is all for regulatory reasons. I don't know if Google just skips it because it's not worth the hassle of navigating all the rules, or because it's a longer process where they have to get some sort of approval from the European Commission first. EU rules are generally not that bad (lately), but it will always be a mixed bag. Countries that (cough) left the EU are certainly in a worse position these days, like the Snoopers' Charter is a bloody disaster, and while Google is actually quite decent about letting you opt out of tracking and personalised ads, it still feels super uncomfortable when you consider that everything you post, say and basically "do" is stored for 1+ years...
Im waiting to hear that Google and Samsung are going to codevelop Android moving forward.
Would be interesting
@@TechOdyssey aren't Qualcomm, mediatek, Rockwell etc always push to AOSP which gets rebased or cherry picked by vendors
intresting? probably. good for security? I think not.
Adam, you and everyone that has a knowledge of phones knows that it is all about money, and Google comofl
It's always about money
Tensor 3 is a exynos anyway
Except it isn't
@@TechOdysseyNice. Some peoples' kids... 🙄
I told you that Samsungs AI was just getting started lol
You mean Google's AI?
@TechOdyssey no I mean samsung lol. In one of your videos you mentioned how google has been doing it for awhile now and how samsung was copying and trying to match Google with their first real attempt with AI. And I said it's just samsungs first time really trying it and before you know it watch samsung start doing more with AI than Google and start coming up with their own AI features and start separating themselves from Google lol
@@marlincampbell8297you don't get it. This has nothing to do with Samsung. This is literally Samsung using Google's tech and features on their own phone. Samsung has no AI. Read the articles. Watch the videos. Apple is about to join the bandwagon as well. This is all Google
samsung is the captain now! 🚢
😂😂😂
I despise Google for allowing too much of their marketing division influence the direction of product development/ differentiation for the past several years.
I'm looking at all of them within who have NO passion for the stuff we PROSUMERS / enthusiasts like
Google's issue is exynos if not ,they're the best smartphone
Sounds like a bunch of bs coming from Google.
?
How? The phone hasn't been out for a full 6 months yet (as of today). They haven't lied about anything. And if you bought this phone for future features, then the jokes on you. If you don't have this phone, then You're wasting our time with this nonsense... Go complain about apple and samsung when they do the same exact things. Especially apple. They do it all the time..
@@mackmccord3743 I’ve got it. What I mean is it sounds like a bunch of cackling
Maybe Samsung is more organized or focused on their mobile business than Google?
I think that's correct
What matters most to me is that I own the expensive hardware, and I want privacy and autonomy. Running Graphene OS on a Pixel is the best and most private user experience on any smartphone, even if some features aren't there yet. Google has been fair in providing (and documenting) how to get full access to their hardware. Samsung and Apple are the same fiefdoms in my opinion. Their ecosystems promise convenience, but the plan always seems to be to lock the user into their walled gardens. Wherever I post remarks like this, someone pops up and berates me about the greatness of their bloated Samsung blower...
If you believe that Samsung is bloated I've for some oceanfront property in Arizona to sell you. I will never understand "de googling" a Google phone but people are entitled to do work their tech what they will. Samsung may have their own ecosphere but likely android is starkly different than iOS in that it works across android and isn't locked into just Samsung.
@@TechOdyssey I like my Google in a sandbox where it is safe and happy. Please don't feel personally addressed, but this is relevant to me: wherever I read comments, Samsung users display the same serf (or herd) mentality as Apple users. I believe that's because they are trained to pick sides - red vs. blue everywhere - and it's these brands grooming and feeding this kind of divisive mentality. I know Samsungs from the inside out from family members and friends... guess who has to help everyone with their blower? It seems to me that everyone older than me (>25) is pledged to one of these annoying brands that praise and promise great features, but really just want you to live in their little ecosystem. Whatever happened to "despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage"? 🐀
Next thing you know, we're changing Gemini's name to Bixby!😂
As a long-time Pixel user since the Galaxy Nexus, I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung edges out Google in the AI race within the next three years. After all, some past Pixel phones shared manufacturing with Samsung, which could give them an advantage in understanding Google's hardware. Additionally, Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors have consistently demonstrated a stronger track record in handling heavy processing compared to Google's Tensor chip.
The worst part is my Galaxy tab S9 Ultra getting all the Ai features the 24 ultra has and my Pixel Fold gets nothing 😂 Even the 2 year old budget Pixels are getting circle to search and my €1900 Fold again, nothing. Google 👎🏾
Samsung have climbed into bed with Google obviously.
Hopefully they don’t have ugly kids
@@TechOdyssey let's face it, Google has got pretty ugly lately. 😂
I prefer Android assistant over Gemini and circle to search is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard as a feature. You can just hold down assistant button and then click search what's on screen. Samsung hardware is years ahead of pixel phones.
Google and Samsung have a really weird relationship where Samsung is bullying Google. Where does Google get all their parts? Samsung. Who is the biggest android vendor in the world? Samsung. So who gets to the king of android?
Samsung.
I was about to say Google camouflages everything. Samsung is profiting from this. Samsung cares more about their customers than Google. The customers decide, and Samsung has been in this world of chips, computers, digital, electronics, appliances gor very long time. When Android came out i think Samsung gave Google a chance, because they were the kid on the block.
Google is definitely profiting from this! That's for sure.
