  • The Google Pixel 8 review after 7 months. The Pixel 8 is good phone, but can you trust Google, and long term support? BUY PIXEL 8: howl.me/cl4OVrgFrpx (affiliate)
    The Pixel 8 has had a rough go, but thankfully Google has demonstrated some additional commitment to extending Gemini Nano AI to the Pixel 8, even if it is a developer option. However, I think if you're interested in the Pixel 8a coming soon, the Pixel 8 is the better buy, and that for most people the Google Pixel 8 is a solid phone.

      @BigNorm69 it annoys me that Google didn't give that phone c band support. Even though the hardware supports it software lock and could have been unlocked by a software update.

    I have the 8 Pro . When I go out in full sun the brightness cranks way up and it's super bright. However..... after about 2-4 minutes, the Tensor dims the screen way down to the point I can't see what's on it and prevents me from increasing the brightness.
    I assume it's because this hand warmer of a device is getting too hot. My S24U doesn't experience this behavior.

    This review comes at a bad time as Google Pixel 7 and 8 owners whose phones are unlocked with AT&T service are still waiting on April's Security Patch. No word from Google on why we do not have the update.

    I can't trust Google on their promises and lack of commitment to services. I got the P8 for 150$ essential with S21 trade in. Worth it, yes. But the experience has not been the greatest. I wouldn't buy it for anything more than 500$. Samsung just feels more reliable.

    I've been vacillating between the 12R and Pixel 8 for the past couple of days as an upgrade from my custom ROM'd OnePlus 8, and part of me just has to accept that I'm one of those people who's so partial to Pixel UI that OxygenOS is somehow more of a compromise than the P8's inferior specs. Instead of just modifying every phone to run the software I so clearly want, I think I'm going to take the plunge and get my first Pixel. Not to mention that as a Google One subscriber, I can get the P8 for $449, which seems worth jumping on before they release the hobbled 8a for more money. Thanks for the video!

    • @MJG70
      @MJG70 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      One plus is very compelling. It's the curved display and weight that holds me back. I will love to buy a one plus but until they have a flat display and make it a little lighter, i will wait, impatiently mind.

    • @stairedblanket5139
      @stairedblanket5139 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@MJG70 In the States, at least, OnePlus has always offered the best hardware for the price (unless you count camera hardware). And a few years ago, custom software was even more abundant than it was for Pixels, and OnePlus came so close to the "best of both worlds" on the Android side of things. Hell, up to OOS 11, their own software was pretty good, even if it was a step down (in my opinion) from the glory days of Cynaogenmod and early OxygenOS. But post-ColorOS OxygenOS is practically a dealbreaker for me. I just can't get behind it. And who knows when dev support for the 12R is going to ramp up, if ever. I almost envy those who don't mind current OxygenOS, because here I am willing to compromise on hardware for the first time in my phone-owning life with the Pixel 8.

    Been happy with mine so far. Been using the 256 GB model for about a month and it's been solid. I have no real complaints aside from wishing there were larger storage options not locked to the Pro model. (Would love a 1 TB model of this phone given the size)
    My opinions on this aren't original as the camera is great, processor is powerful enough for my needs, and they did improve the Tensor over the G2. (Especially with heat)
    Aside from more storage the only improvements I can see is ditching glass backs and going with plastic. Or even making a rugged version of the Pixel like Samsung did with the Galaxy Active series. (Maybe call it the Pixel Sport?) Given the rumors of the Pixel 9 using satellites for emergency services this could be the excuse to make ruggedized versions of Pixels.

    I used Pixel 2 for a short period (loved it), Pixel 3a (great experience), Pixel 5 (great as well), Pixel 6 (very, very bad) and finally Pixel 7. I enjoyed it for a time but the battery life started to degrade after like 6 months, it constantly dropped signal and always got hot. I jumped ship to the 23 Ultra, now the 24 Ultra. As badly as I want to love Pixel, I think they have been on the decline since Pixel 5. Their popularity is probably the exact opposite since Pixel 5 but I fully blame it on Tensor. It is great for competition to keep Qualcomm from going unchallenged (not counting Exynos) but Google just needs to go back to Snapdragon chips.
