I actually liked the "visor" on a Pixel, it gives the phone its own identity, and it makes it more recognizable. Everyone around you can tell that you're using a Pixel just by looking at the visor

Google's call monitoring is way underrated for spam callers! The integration of everything on the pixel from your bills to your calendar are awesome in the way they remind you and keep you on top of things
I love that also. I don't hear the phone ring when my phone is not in use. ❤
The spam block is golden. Helped me pick between trading in my s22 ultra for 1k off of an s23 ultra, to trading in a pixel 5 for 1k off the Pixel 8pro making it practically free. I fkn hate spam calls being the introvert that I am.

I LOVE the Google call screening! Saves me from the decision of answering or not if I don't recognize the number. When it's a scam call, they always hang up with the screening.
There's literally adaptive call screening and reminders on samsung.
The production value of this channel is light-years ahead of where it used to be. Not everyone may notice these subtle details, but those who do will absolutely love them. Shout-out to Arun and the team!!

This is the best review of the pixel 8/ pro I’ve seen so far. He went in depth on every aspect of the phone instead of just going through the features like a Google presentation.

You have to realise Marques can't readily see that a lot of features don't work outside US, or that the modem is bad, but possibly well optimized for US carriers. It's been too long everyone has been giving Google a pass on this and they seriously need to get the their s** together in this and other regards now that they're charging premium penny for these phones
I'm glad you pointed out the occasional instability of your experience with the P8/P8 Pro. I figured my P7 Pro would have the issues from the P6 series ironed out, but it's been less stable than I was hoping for. Defo overhyped myself a bit, but I'm glad to see I'm not crazy, seeing similar issues are happening on P8.

I switched to 8 Pro from 4a 5G and it's a day and night difference. I really enjoy 8 Pro and all it's features
Surprisingly, I found myself spending a lot of time generating AI wallpapers, specifically in "Painting" and "Textures" sections. First, I thought it was just a gimmick, but actually they look dope!
5x telephoto lens is very good. I compared it to my wife's 14 Pro and Pixels zoom is noticeably better, both in daytime and in night .
I also used "Best take" feature for couple of my photos and it actually works well!
I agree though that switching between lenses while shooting video is poor. That's my only complaint so far.
Upd: since Google released Video boost feature I use it frequently. It really boosts the video when shot indoors in the dim lightning or at night. Basically, when the environment is challenging, Video boost is definitely a great option. I don't really care it has to be sent to Google's servers, although some people make a big deal out of it and want it to be processed locally on the phone.
I also have a pixel 4a5G but don't see any point to upgrade yet. My battery life is still good and I can't justify the upgrade as it still works perfectly.
Of course 4a and 8 pro would be night and day, of course mate, there's a 5, 6, 6a, 6pro, 7, 7a, 7pro, and also the 8 lol
So of course it's night and day, even the prices are 😂
Finally pulled the trigger from my 2XL u guys still have a couple more years

Never knew that these magical AI features on the Pixel are such a hassle to use until your review. As software based problems, I believe Google could easily solve each and every downsides you mentioned, and the Pixel 8 Pro remains one of the best phones to get in 2023.

parts of the magic eraser is done locally but the whole new things they showed where you can move a whole person seems to be done online and is specifically locked onto the pixel 8 for some reason... As a pixel 6 user i don't see any reason to upgrade to the 8 even if i had 1100€ burning a hole in my wallet

Quite a thorough review that touches upon points other reviewers tend to gloss over or ignore. I never thought I'd see any reviewer deep dive into the limitations of Pixel cameras given how universally lauded they are. Helpful!

The most issues I've ever had with my pixel 6 and 7 was it got a little warm and that's it . Software updates fixes most issues
I have the P6 and P7 i didn't experience none of these issues people complain about in my opinion these devices are great

I'd have to agree with you if I'm being honest, mine gets hot especially when I'm recording video. Other than that the P6P has been a champ!💪🏼💯

When it comes to tech, I'm very picky, I went from Nexus 6 to Pixel 2XL. Least year I wanted to upgrade to Pixel 7 Pro, seemed fair, but now after watching this review I should finally let go of the 2XL and get the 8 Pro. The only thing that the 8, 7, 6... are missing it's the back fingerprint reader.
I had this feeling when I got the pixel 6 that I should of waited, the same feeling when I got the pixel 7 , I'm not tempted to purchase the 8 . also battery life out of the box is woeful.after an update or 2 and it seems better.but why have to wait for better battery life,?
At the moment I'm sticking with my pixel 7 and I'll see what they bring out next autumn.

I got the pixel 8 pro last Thursday, I had the Pixel 6 pro before. Battery, "smart features", smoothness and the camera got a lot better. But this stutter in the camera is freaking me out as well. I never really had a problem with heat -unlike the pixel 6- even though I'm a pretty heavy user too because of my job. Signal was always great so far (T-Mobile/Germany). I don't regret going for a pixel phone again.
I feel this can easily be fixed with a software update? Idk why this video makes such a big deal out of it

To be fair, if Google is going to have their latest flagship phone come out with feature that aren't polished enough and expects people to buy it at launch then I do hope that a reviewer like him should point that out and let people to wait it out.

This is easily one of the best most in depth reviews. Some of the stuff you mentioned I didn't even know about and didn't hear any other prominent tech youtubers talk about.
Great callouts on the phone's opportunities to improve Arun. I agree to wait for the next few months.
A few of the features mentioned here were introduced to my friend's Pixel a few weeks ago in the Android 14 update. The only problem he faced was the Android Intelligence constantly showing an error, before realising that it had to be updated separately, too.
One downside is that now it consumes a very significant amount of storage available on the phone, and you cannot even delete it, or the user experience will be downgraded, as assumed for now.
How much storage does it take up?
The effort and consistency that this dude is putting in videos is so good that its 11 pm here and im up watching this guy's video that just released. Keep it up😊
Love your videos, you helped me understand phones alot better and I myself started doing IT courses in school. Now all my friends and family come to me when they want to know something about their phone or what phone they need to buy when they upgrade.
Great review i must admit i find the pixel phones alot more polished than any other android phone but i will say not everything is perfect to start with. I seem to find over time things start to just improve and eveything seems more stable. I do think the tensor g3 chip could have come with slightly more power especially as these phones are considered flagships. I think maybe Google is trying too much outside the box to look different from apple to try and get in more sales under simple curiosity. If you already like googles software and eco system then you can't really go wrong with either of these phones.
wow, now that was a great review, wish you did other items, very in depth review without being complicated or boring , maybe you should do tutorials on how to do reviews , im not a very patient man but i watched the whole thing before i noticed i watched the whole thing lol.

I have just upgraded from the Google Pixel 6 to the Pixel 8 Pro and I’ve been so happy it a huge leap forward for me.
I think the step from the 6 (pro) to the 8 is huge. It’s an amazing phone and from the current lineup the one i use privately now…😉👍

What these Apple-paid TH-camrs won't talk about is the is the Pixel experience is the only thing that matters.

@@Jo5ue1meh, i own a pixel 8, the software is great nothing to say about, but for 750/1100 eur phone u need a decent modem and some decent specs. If you just open a random game its get laggy and begin to heat even with cold temperature, i get it its close to winter so you can warm up your hand, but damn this summer you're gonna burn lmao
As a Pixel user - totally agree with everything mentioned. My question is, if I am looking for a new phone, which one to go for? I love the Pixel´s camera and it is important to me but the constant sw irresponsiveness and NFC issues are just too painful. But in my opinion Iphone or Samsung are just quite behind with the camera quality? Any other tip for more reliable phone with high quality camera?

I’ve been waiting a long time for this video and I’ve already bought the phone and I don’t have a lot of the gripes that you have with this phone at the moment. It has definitely stepped up in terms of thermals compared to the seven Pro, and it feels more fluid compared to the seven pro. With that said, I do know that the phone will have its drawbacks in the future and I do hope that the updates that we are looking for it does get implemented but I love these cameras I love this software I love this phone.
I wish the Tensor was more on par with the 8G2 in terms of efficiency and performance. Other than that, I wish Pixels could have things like Good Lock customization and similar. If those were both implemented somehow, these would practically perfect for me. The only thing that might make it better is if it was a Flip without sacrificing any specs/capabilities.

I used to hate the visor camera hump too but I have since liked it when I bought a Pixel 7 Pro and still loving it in my Pixel 8 Pro
Fantastic review, Arun! First Pixel 8/8 Pro review that hasn't gushed about everything and had nothing bad to say about it. I had a severe case of FOMO and was considering buying at launch ($1600 for the 8 here in NZ), but I think I will wait. The photo/video features that need that permanent connection aren't going to be overly useful to me. I don't use data when I am out and about, the 4/5g is spotty, and I tend to turn all connections off when I'm not using them to save battery, get some peace etc. The other thing about the new picture and video features having to be used while online or uploaded is privacy. I'm not sure about the pictures, but you said the videos need to be uploaded, Google will improve them, then send you back an improved version. Copyright, privacy and data leaks become concerns as soon as you upload something to anything online. And what is Google doing with your data? You can never be 100% sure. With new technology comes new concerns and it feels like we're putting our trust in companies that are there to make money as a priority, not protect the consumer.
That's an amazing constructive criticism Arun, Bravo 👏👏 as a pixel user I agree with all of these. You actually helped google to find out where they have to improve. If they do so, pixels are gonna be unbeatable

I feel this review was overly critical compared to what Arun does for other phones specifically Apple. Maybe it's me but the bias was glaring. His apple reviews are never this in-depth. People have been complaining about the 15 since it came out thermals and such but he neglected those downsides of Apple. Clearly technology isn't perfect yet but I think reviews should be fair across the board. If you choose to nitpicking every shortcoming do it across the board. I mean look at Jerryrigeverything his destruction of all phones is equal and fair no bias to any side but this was obviously leaning to one side

Great review! I am syill using pixel 6 pro, and I feel that they deliver on their promises for updates. This makes me hold on to my 6 pro for one more year and hope that pixel 9 pro will be my next phone for years to come. Pixel 8 pro doesn't feel like a big enough upgrade just yet.
I've felt the same way with my 6P, however, the constant reminder of photos I missed taking because of the lens' limited capabilities pushed me to do something about it this year.. The trade in makes it easier to transition. ALSO how about that screen brightness? I know you gotta be avoiding the sunlight when you're looking at that phone! There was a number of reasons for me and I still am a little edgy about the decision but I am confident the next trade would be even better for me. However the AI thing personally I think is a stupid feature. The "trapped in a website" feeling the guy was talking about is very relevant but also shouldn't be focused on if it's not really done on the phone.. It's done on servers somewhere else.. Which all phones should have no issue serving. The AI should have been focused as a separate service/feature for all pixel phones and google users rather than some gimmicky new feature on their pixel phone. It holds no real value in my opinion and other competitors will surely be able to make similar technologies available soon if not already.
I love my Pixel 8 Pro, haven't noticed any poor performance or camera quality issues. It's also an amazing deal with the free Pixel Watch 2 for preorder and amazing trade in offers. I got mine for only $400 all in.

If I lived in the US, I would take advantage of that too. AFAIK, Google has had these sort of deals for a while now for pixel users. Unfortunately for me, I am not spending 1k+ on a phone where I live.

You've hit hard on the gripes I have with the Pixel series. A definitive Pixel review, for which I'd like you to follow up with a second review after the December updates. Because then we'll actually see how much Google delivered compared to the launch presentation.
Before having watched any videos like yours I ordered the Google Pixel 8 pro because of things like best take and photo unblur. It should arrive tomorrow. I hope Google has someone whose job is to watch videos like this so that they can get started on fixing the issues you and others have stated.
What's your current opinion on it?
@@JasperJames0912 I like most of it. And with every update it seems to get better. There are still things that could be better such as someone's hand and arm were in the way of what otherwise would have been the perfect shot. With a lot of things in pictures you can just erase it. But apparently not if it is part of someone's body. I am not sure why. Also, with my iphone or my samsung (not sure which) on the always on display (whatever before you get the lock screen) it showed the time and a calendar with the date in color. The Pixel does not. It only has the time black on black with only a faint white outline (which makes it hard to see) and the date (very small) below that. There doesn't appear to be a way to add a calendar and make it bigger and more colorful.
much appreciated review! I can tell that you spent proper time and this is a proper review. I was thinking of switching to Pixel from iPhone this year, because the Demo's looked good and other reviewers said its good. You can tell other reviewers spent just a few days with the phone and then immediately jumped to release the video. Your review was done properly with real details which tells the consumer what to expect if they buy.

I've just upgraded to a Pixel 8 Pro from a Pixel 6 Pro. I've not yet found any issues with lag or overheating and find the phone blisteringly fast. The cameras are very very good ... especially the zoom. Battery life is fine and the Google version of Android is unfussy: I love it. Your review was very comprehensive and I appreciate it, especially your comments that features are not always available in the UK which has always annoyed me. My only comment is that you are concentrating on the AI features of photography. Personally I only use these occasionally, for instance to change a grey leaden sky to something more attractive, and for this the magic editor performs just fine. For people that wish to fundamentally change the image on a phone, these features are available but a little rough: this doesn't personally affect me, although the features are there if I really needed them. Lets see what the updates bring: the Pixel 6 Pro was pretty awful at the time of release consistently dropping WiFi .. very annoying ... I haven't found anything like this with the 8. However, I think this phone has the potential to be something remarkable and I'm happy to go along for the ride!

I guess he covered the AI and their features because that's literally what they marketed the most. Also the photography limitations for resolution and optical lens is definitely a massive let down.

@@mytomtv3500No, unfortunately he is right though. My Pixel 6 has brought me nothing but problems. A trashy screen with green botches all over that are very visible when you lower the brightness, a battery that decided to swell up and endanger my life only after 1.5 years of use. A jittery display that doesn't look anywhere near 90fps, which by the way, just stopped working a few weeks ago out of nowhere and Google's repair centers told me that it isn't supported under warranty and that they'll either fix it for €200 or they can send it back unfixed. I should've listened to people when they warned me of Google. I'm tired of trying out different trash companies and I'm going back to Samsung 100%.

Arun is a "little" bit biased towards the I phones and apple products in general, in my opinion but he is still a very thorough and knowledgeable reviewer!

I have a pixel 6a and while ive never had the latest and greatest phone i find that even with its limitations my 6a is more than enough for what I need. I really like my phone and i would love to have the 8 or 8 pro. I dont care too much about video quality for me its more about photos.
I also have 6a! I feel like day to day the photos are good enough, definitely better than any flagship that I've owned in the past. But overall the phone is just really boring and average, I might want to switch to OnePlus 12 just for all the specs on paper.

@@cesarsilva2282 I am with mine but I would still love to have the 8. One of the main reasons why is because OS updates are only supported until 2025 which isn't too far away. Also it seems like a really good phone
Got the One UI 6 update today on my S21 FE 5G and those software details and smooth animations are present in that update and also has better security.
Im so tempted by the 8 Pro, normally a samsung guy but my s21+ is starting to show its age a little now, and the PIxel seems such great value compared to the s23 Ultra and esepecially the s24U.
I've switched from s23 Ultra to this. Samsung's one UI 6 now has more bugs than a jungle plys the battery lufe is terrible. I even have terrible issues with 3,4 and 5g reception. I'm prepared to give this a go. I'm adventurous like that too
Great vid! A lot of the issues are absolutely fair and rather objective. But, ima go on a limb and say it may be overly critical (?). Having used the P8Pro now since launch (coming from a OnePlus 7 Pro), this has been absolutely amazing and I haven't experienced any crazy heating or bugs (yet lol). That said, our use cases are very different, you're reviewing it and putting it through its paces as an enthusiast device (as you should) while I'm just a schmuck with a phone diddling around haha. I think the performance is honestly fine for your average joe out there just scrolling around. All in all, as a user of the phone I can highly recommend it to the average user that wants a more high end device. For pro-sumers/enthusiasts that want to squeeze everything from your phone, maybe look elsewhere for now.

those with more suscribers and viewership, don't necessarily be good or produce good videos, they usually are very biasd and at the same time claim themselves unbiased. most of the famous youtubers on smartphones are apple fan boys and not good.on the contrary, i found many youtubers with fewer subscribers doing good videos.

I have been thinking of the Pixel 8 Pro as a replacement for my aging Samsung S22 Ultra, but after watching your review it generates some doubt or at least hesitation to do so.
Question (fwiw if it even gets noticed) As an alternative to Pixel 8 Pro, I am thinking alternatively of Oppo's OnePlus 12 (coming soon) or the just released OnePlus Open (just released) as alternatives. The OnePlus is way better. It's always been the flagship killer even though they raised prices to match the flagships. My only issue with using a Chinese phone in America is that it's restricted from all infrastructure so you can't get 5G or car play.

4:24 really good feature to have , especially when it works as intended, which is about 80% of the time on my pixel 3, maybe because it's an older model, but I wish it worked more consistently
So the subtle haptic feedback when swiping left to go back is actually a new feature in Android 14, called Predictive back. Essentially showing user where he'll be taken to before you complete the swipe. Crazy thing is it took Google 1 year to complete testing and releasing it in Android 14.
I love the visor reminds me of my favorite Google Nexus 6P, I believe had memorable visor as well. That was a selling feature for me.

Temperature sensor's best use-case is processing lighting of any capture according to the outside temperature.
A lot of these issues seem very minor and I haven't noticed any of these things while using mine for 2 weeks now. The Pixel 8 Pro is a beast and I'm loving every moment of it. I also believe expectations play a major role in this as well. Coming from a Galaxy A53 to a Pixel Pro is a massive leap in everything so of course I'm more pleased with what I have. I can't imagine the average user looking at these negatives and thinking that it makes a huge difference. I bet a lot of these issues will be patched up.

@@saadbenbenabslam5176 I personally don't game or do high intense activities on my phone so I haven't had any heating issues. Still, it's an electronic device, they are bound to heat up and get warm. Ive own multiple gaming computers over the years and no matter what you do they always get warm or hot. If the issue or any other problem gets to be to noticable Google will patch it.

Thank you for getting more in depth with the software, its little animations and details; it's what I enjoy the most of using phones- a ui that feels organic and material (the bulletproof smoothness and animations is what will probably keep me in iOS forever) and without videos like yours I probably would never get to see the stuff Android is doing. Great review overall!
This is such a good review. So much daily life, real user details which users only feel if they actually use the phone. The other reviews just feel like hardware ads at this point
Actually iOS isn't as smooth as you think, an iPhone 11 is much more stuttery than my Oneplus 6 which is older.

Yes, iphone 13 14 15 are smooth.
But it's because they're bonkers fast, not because of iOS.
Though ios does have great animations overall but it is damn heavy.

Ive got a Pixel 6 and its performance is great for its price! I think its also software based that the phone is glitching out and having problems when overheating. BTW, the camera "visor" on the back is a "think-out-the-box" from google. I really love this design - whenever i do my schoolwork, 95% of the time, i have some folder laying around nearby and its just perfect to make a stand out of it. The phone keeps itself from not falling thanks to the clever back design!

Yeah. He has had me 2nd guessing whether or not to switch to the Pixel 8 Pro. I switched briefly to the Pixel 6 a few years ago but switched a month in because of a small issue with syncing Calendar issue but I've missed call screening & Hold for me features ever since.
Waited a long time for this! But as always hopeful that it will be worth to watch and based on practical benchmarks not the synthetic ones
Synthetic benchmarks from apps that Google has blocked all Pixel 8 owners from downloading from the Play Store. This is a deceitful company who don't want buyers to know that their Pixel 8 only has midrange device performance in some tests. Allow people to download what other Android users are free to download Google.
Great video. Hopefully a lot of these issues will get fixed soon. I'm on the Pixel 5 and will probably move to the 8 if there are decent Black Friday deals. The Pro is just too big for me. PS loved the frying pan in the pan mode section 😂
It's actually not that much bigger than a regular version on the 8 just probably less than half of inch more of screen

Apart from the part that it doesn't feel like the phone is using on-device AI to process image changes, I agree with everything you said and mentioned. Most important for me will be battery life and temperatures going forward. Because if this phone wants to survive up to 7 years it'll need to be as efficient as it can get!
Also, to survive up to 7 years the battery swap procedure needs to be low risk of damaging something else in the process. I haven't seen any teardowns or reparability metrics yet, but those videos are probably coming soon (or just as likely I've missed them).
If you go into camera -> photo settings -> Pro (on the Pixel 8 Pro), you can change from 12MP to 50MP ...love your videos btw :)

He was referring to the standard Pixel 8. The standard also has the same 50MP main camera lens, but you cannot use it in full resolution since it's lacking the Pro mode on the camera app.

Great review my man yes this phone is an absolute goat it gets all the android features but the problems will be resolved in a later update i think but overall pixel 8 series has improved a lot compared to pixel 7 or pixel 6 series i just wish google would make a pixel ultra phones like what samsung and xiaomi does to their flagship ultra phones like xiaomi 13 ultra or galaxy s23 ultra
I find it really strange, but I'm using the 8pro now for a week and really had none of the issues you're describing. Especially all the AI stuff works extremely well. Maybe you've a bad one or feeble connection.
