When I think cheater, I think about when Dream had to be disproven by countless mathematical experts, admitted to cheating, and people (mostly children) still follow them regardless.
Mitchell's case is an odd one. Despite the overwhelming evidence against him and his records, he still refuses to accept that maybe his records were illegitimate.
It's one thing to cheat and blatantly lie about it, but dedicating years of your life to a legal battle to uphold the lie is something else.
If they're this petty in video games, I can't imagine what his personality is like.
Until the King of Kong documentary, I'd never even heard of Billy Michell. After watching it, I still didn't really know who the hell this guy is, or why I should care. And I'd imagine that's true of a very large number of people. Billy just can't accept that his claimed feats just don't matter.

Twin Galaxies can't reinstate his records on the true leaderboard or unban Billy if they want to maintain any credibility, and Billy has made this too much a part of his life to stop until they do. This is one of my favorite internet series as of now. It's like watching a superhero and a supervillain fight over and over every episode in a saturday morning cartoon. Billy is such a legendary super villain that if he was a fictional character he'd probably be one of the classic Disney villains.

I always think, *if* he's that good and Twin Galaxies somehow banned him for the wrong reasons, there's a lot he could still do. Making contents about retro gaming, doing long plays and retro game playthroughs, joining retro game events / podcasts, do a retro gaming travel series to Japan (he does have the money if the piling lawsuits are any indications), just to name a few.
Plenty of people succeeded without even having a shot at breaking a world record. Literally, anything is better than this.

Sometimes when I think about the Billy Mitchell case I tear up. It's so sad to think that something you did decades ago can consume your life like this. I kinda scares me and makes me realize how much life I have left and now matter what is going on I should always be thankful that I'm not living a life like Billy Mitchell. With all of us having a finite amout of time on earth its crazy that you can spend so much of it worrying about and trying to fix the problems you made decades ago. It makes me wonder if im just a few bad decisions and a snap of a finger away from a man in his 60s only focused on the past.

I think Billy may legitimately have thought that "official historical database" might have been the actual main leaderboards. He's clearly not legally very intelligent & didn't realise that the exact language of the legal statement matters and historical database =/= main leaderboards until after the settlement.
That's the only reason I can imagine he'd bring those questions to TG. He probably knows the courts will just throw this in the bin so he's using another court case (with Jobst) as an "in" that the legal system can entertain.
If he doesn't bring Karl into this he almost certainly hits a legal brick wall and they say "you settled and got what you asked for, go away".
So this is my working theory, in Billy's head, he has never lied about anything. He genuinely believes every work he says, and doesn't understand why people don't believe him. It's like he got the inverse curse of Kassandra or something.
I am thinking this as well. I could see him thinking that Twin Galaxies is historical, so the title of their leaderboards would be The Historical Leaderboards, and learning that it's just another board that next to nobody is going to look at probably got him really angry. As for involving Karl in this lawsuit, we'll have to see where this thing goes. Truly a spectacle that doesn't show signs of stopping anytime soon

The funniest thing to me (aside from Billy being one of Karl's Patreon members) is that trying to make up this grand conspiracy theory about Karl colluding with Twin Galaxies cannot possibly be a good idea when he's locked in a defamation lawsuit with Karl. If it doesn't give Karl grounds to counter sue, it at least gives Karl ammunition to show Billy as paranoid and incapable of presenting a reasonable interpretation of Karl's content to a court.
I agree. I'll admit that when I first heard that his scores were being "restored to the historic database," I thought they were going back on the main site. I don't think Billy expected Twin Galaxies to spin up a whole new section of the website just for him (which his lawyers really should have warned him about). But as long as the judge agrees that Twin Galaxies fulfilled the settlement, I can't see this going anywhere.
It's always clear in these sorts of matters that the lawyers are hoping the judge is technologically illiterate and will just take their word for it. You see it all the time in cases that involve anything more complicated on a PC than scrolling through Facebook.

@@MaskedDeath_ It's not really the legal costs. It's that 0.01% chance of failure for corporations tends to be a large enough risk to their funds that it's better to settle for a few million and call it a day.
If you have a lawsuit that has any amount of chance to fail, they will want to settle, because the alternative to the settlement is always on the order of billions and your entire viability.
