I'm actually glad that there are people willing to challenge Jobst on his investigations. Even if they're not the best challenges seeing Jobst defend his position gives me a better understanding of the situation as a whole.
I would genuinely recommend Moonie's video if you haven't seen it; it made me want to tear my hair out for many of the same reasons Karl portrays here, but the point of the video was more about how making public accusations can open one up to legal risk, and how the things presented within Karl's videos did not constitute definitive proof. And karl has opened himself up to legal risk, but that was a risk that he made an informed decision to take; the same cannot be said of your average viewer or a random person trying to emulate this type of investigation, and those are the people who actually need to see Moonie's video.
The other day, I saw a guy getting held up and robbed at gun point. I was going to call the police, but then I thought "wait a minute.... I'm not a lawyer. I can't determine if this is illegal."
Someone was having a heart attack, but I’m not a doctor so I couldn’t know that for sure to call 911, so I just kept going. Hope a doctor walked by to help him though.
I had a nightmare about how Karl made a video on me because I messed up a customer's order at work and my "flagrant disrespect for my work was out of control". Terrifying stuff.
Its understandable to forget your keys. Its completely normal to forget to buy the milk. But nobody EVER forgot they have $670,000 stashed away in a bank account, and then hired a family member to forget too.
The milk thing is super real went to the supermarket because I needed milk and other things, bought the other stuff and forgot the milk. I would never forget any sum of money tho
Personally I think they used it as their own loan/borrow piggy bank. It's been sitting there far far too long for them not to interact with it. The only question I have giving benefit of the doubt, if he really DIDN'T know about it and he JUST found out about it he should had made it a priority to get that money off his hands asap. Then hire someone in PR consulting to go over what to say should anything come up about it to have his ducks in a row. ...He didn't do any of that until after the fact.
I imagine Jirad is cursing Moon right now. People were just starting to get distracted by other stuff and now this is brought up again with MORE evidence.
This is the type of thing that no one will ever forget, though. If Billy Mitchell had just admitted to cheating years ago and tried to laugh it off, he probably could have made it back into the good graces of the public by now. But the chunky bearded fuckstain is never going to live this charity fraud down.
It didn't need to be. He already provided plenty. Any more would be over kill in the court of public opinion. The rest is likely being saved for if open hand/Jirard even thinks about trying legal action
The part Jobst mentions but didn't let play out in the podcast where he quit best buy about buying things with 1's, he says he "borrowed a couple thousand dollars from his dad", took it to the bank and exchanged it all for 1 dollar bills, and went back to the best buy he had quit to buy everything he needed for youtube, and because the purchase was over a certain amount the manager had to come and count the money. He says he bought "microphones, capture cards, hard drives, musical instruments, [and] sound proof boards". As the manager finished counting his mountain of 1 dollar bills, he told him "this is my notice, I'm never coming back here, I'm not giving you two weeks, I'm done. Penalize me, I don't give a shit" as if he would even still have a job after he publicly cussed him out, said he quit, and stormed out after selling a customer her ipod. In the same bit he says he grew up "lower middle class" and somehow reconciles that with being able to borrow what sounds like about 5,000 dollars from your dad for a theatrical resignation from best buy. As he finishes the story the host just goes "whoo...."
Yeah I don't know in what universe Jirard was "lower middle class." His mom took him on a 9 month road trip with a guru, spent half a million, and his father didn't even fucking notice. Who can withdraw half a million in cash from their marital bank account? And not even be noticable from normal spending?
I am actually surprised nobody even noted how dumb all that sounds. I assume most of the people just tolerated what he said or didn't really pay attention. Only wanted something done for charity. But the things you are telling are just too stupid to ignore and not say anything about it.
All of you are making baseless accusations, backed by sloppy research. Did any of you even attend law school? The court of public opinion is no place to try this case
The take away is to sponsor them in the future haha. Because clearly choosing not to sponsor a video exactly to prevent people from questioning your motive doesn't work at all.
is not like the influx of viewers from drama doesnt bring him money for the other videos, just because you know how to play the system doesnt mean you are free of blame, if profit wasnt the point, then a video wouldnt have been needed, just forward it to the authorities, consult with them when you can talk about it, if and when you can. IF jirards plan was to run with the money, the video would of been amazing for him, he could of just run away with it... The right authorities can freeze accounts and can make sure the money doesnt land somewhere it shouldnt be. IF the money was there. Lets not make jesus out of karl, he is a drama merchant , and he has an incentive to see people in the wrong light, im not saying jirard is innocent, he is not, but is the punishment right for the crime? The only we know for certain is that he kept money for a long period of time, and eventually donated it out of pressure from people investigating, we will never know for sure if he was planning on something bad or not, but lets just say lets assume that it WAS bad, he planned to steal it all. is he then as guilty as someone who actually stole money? Because obviously he thought about stealing it, but he didnt, he donated it in the end? Should he be punished as much as someone who did steal it? or less? what about someone who missued funds for charity, used it for personal reason, and stole a bunch of money as well? and was found guilty, and even then, he never apologized or admited to doing it? Like trump with his charity? I dont see every post or every video of trump filled with people talking about his fraudulent activites? what is the endgame with jirard? to make an example out of him? to just bully someone with a good reason for it? Why is there such discrepancy on the punishemnt for differnt peoples? Jirard shouldnt be allowed to go outside ever again for thinking about stealing money, but trump should be allowed to be president for actually being convited of running a fraudulent charity? I am not defending jirard again, but its hard to see this and see the difference and just think, yeah it makes sense, to me at this point, it feels more like a bunch of people who enjoy witchhunting people and like having a reason for it, so they are morally justified, they dont care about the crimes, or who is affected, they just like to punish and hurt people, but they wont go against people who they will face backlash from, like trump, where his followers might be worse than you
@@DarkZombehremember what karl said: he didnt make his videos because he thought Jirard's actions were legal, he made it because he thought they were morally wrong. Therefore, it was better for him to make a video rather than go to the authorities. Also, yeah karl does it for the money - as you know. He needs money to survive just like all of us. Just as a general note: In my opinion, it isnt a question of whether he is making money, it's a question of "has he earned it?". And I believe that in this Completionist conflict, he has earned it
Are saying that both cannot be done. You can go to the authorities while publishing a video of your own investigation. What's wrong with a money incentive. Even if he was greedy, attack the facts and not the motive.@@DarkZombeh
There is absolutely no way Jirard cursed out his manager, quit his job, and then proceeded to sell a customer an iPod as if he still worked there. In what universe is that plausible?
His lies are honestly on the level of fake reddit stories written by teenagers.. The only thing missing is the customers applauding and cheering on him🤣
Imagine how terrifying it would be if you had video footage of a man steeling your car AND confessing on camera that he stole your car but Moony is your lawyer
"Your honor, you say you've seen the video evidence and theres no way my client didnt steal his car, but were forgetting the most important piece of evidence which is how much money you really make"
I just know this dude only made it through law school because of his ego and personality. I'm in law school right now and there are some people who I know will make for terrible lawyers but they'll succeed because they think they're awesome and they're great at kissing ass
Jirard talking about being #1 at selling games and his example is he pumped up MARIO games of all things is so ridiculous. I'm sure Nintendo and Best Buy are sooooo thankful you sold Mario games as they would normally just sit on the shelf collecting dust.
He said he dumpster dived to get statues that GameStop threw out. Dude...in what world would any employee of GameStop throw out a statue like the one Jirard pointed to? And then what Best Buy policy would allow Jirard to bring in the statue to "help" sell games? The guy is a fucking compulsive liar.
I will say I find most of the content of these videos boring. But I really enjoy how exact his languages that he uses. Like to me honestly he sounds like he could be a lawyer if he wanted to.
I never got why people sympathized for him using the _his dad was the real douchebag_ Yes, it's clear that Charles (his father) was the real mastermind, that doesn't excuse that Jirard was a willing accomplice. Even if folk believe that he didn't know that the funds were just stockpiled for years until he was made aware in 2022, he still did nothing about it and continued running Indieland bussines as usual. He knew what he was doing, I'm tired of people using the _his father stronghold him into his scam_ he started Indieland in 2018 when he was 30, he wasn't a naive teen/young adult that was gaslit by his dad and if you somehow still believe that it does not change the fact that he didn't take action when he was made aware that the funds were not donated for a decade.
@@Xfushion2 given Jirad’s cultural background, I can understand how some people might run with this narrative. I agree with your wholeheartedly, but I don’t fault people for wanting to try and give him an out, however weak of an out if might be
his mother would have been so proud. okay that was a dark usage of that phrase 😂☠️... makes me wonder tho if even his mom died of dementia at this point...
He's like that privileged trust fund social justice warrior who constantly says things like "...one of my friends is (African-American/Asian/Latino/whatever)..." because she feels like it gives them some kind of power of appeal. Like they get a high off being able to wear that affliction on their sleeve.
She was used as a poster child for them, where information was made up or embellished to raise money for years. Then used for sympathy once they were exposed. Makes you wonder what their relationship was like when she was alive. Did they even have a nice relationship?
The story about quitting while selling the old lady her iPad is just so perfect.. I'm surprised he didn't actually include that a crowd had gathered and they all clapped as he walked off 😂
"and then the old lady tipped me 5 million dollars for dementia research money but since I'm such a cool dude I told her to keep it for herself." And then the crowd went wild.
I love that Jirard pretends that he quits because he finds out Bestbuy wants to upsell. Upselling is one of the things they train you for. Bestbuy is notorious for their upsell tactics. It's like me trying to be like "I worked at Disneyland and one day they told me I needed to smile more and I lost it"
It's like becoming an infantryman then quitting because you're supposed to use firearms. It is a basic sales strategy used in all companies that have sales personnel. Your job is to sell things & sell well. Of course, despite refusing to upsell, he was the best salesman of all time.
There's no way you talk to employees like that as a manager/supervisor and keep your job, either. He's clearly either making the whole thing up or exaggerating what happened. Coming from someone who's seen a supervisor get demoted simply for calling 2 employees stupid (some other contributing factors too but that was the last straw).
@@Shmandalf I think perhaps he was more telling on himself in that instance. That's what he perhaps genuinely remembers of the manager because it's how he understands himself to be.
@@Shmandalfyeah if any of my managers straight up insulted me like that without any constructive criticism I'd sure as hell be going above their head to report it. If you're a manager it's your job to either fire people or instruct them on how to improve their work. Just calling someone stupid does absolutely nothing
Rightfully so, man's in shaky financial waters right now and he still has Billy Mitchell's litigation to deal with. Things are even more problematic considering how Twin Galaxies settled against Billy Mitchell.
The whole endowment thing made me realize something. Jirad didnt even bother talking to a lawyer to see whats the best excuse for what he was doing was, despite doing it for over a decade.
And somehow I've got a feeling there is more where this is coming from. If people keep pushing Karl he's just gonna make videos like this every month, where he'll be destroying Jirard again and again, presenting new evidence every single time. 😂
It's over Jobst, he animated himself as Phoenix Wright and played the turnabout music the whole time.... so, you know, that makes him correct, apparently.
That was bugging so much. Just feels so lazy and unoriginal. Use the odd phoenix wright sound or clip as a meme, but if you have it on constantly, it just tells me you're boring.
If you compare Jirard's "Video Game Salesperson Of The Century" Plaque to his "World's Longest Living FTD Mother" Guinness World Record plaque, you can see that they were both made with identical feet. It's unfortunate that both items were tragically lost after Jamie Lee Curtis accidentally left them on the roof of her helicopter, as she was on her way to donate them to the AFTD Hall of Fame.

Agreed. Moon's accusation of a conflict of interest was invalid now that we know how Karl's videos are monetized as he outlined in this video. However the idea that following the money is never worth it in investigations is just incorrect @@AceaIvalia
@@AceaIvalia It really depends on context tho, if we take it too literally, then the whole criminal system is biased, because policemen and lawyers get paid...
Also the FACT that he said that "ALL the money" from IndiLand goes to donations and they "don't touch any of it" but later goes on to say that donations go to offset costs. So he lied about how the donations are used and admitted it. Also, never addressed where the non-cash money raised went, or the proceeds from merchandise as well.
Former Best Buy employee here: Best Buy would never let you bring your own decorations. They have company equipment and decorations sent from corporate or approved vendors. Another example of jirard lying out of his ass lmao
I really don't think ANY large chain would let a random employee walk in with whatever decorations they felt like bringing. They have a very specific brand image to abide to.
I worked at Best Buy in 2009-2012. We were allowed to bring stuff in if management thought it would look good and helped sales or made for a fun addition. Jirard is a stinky liar but he's not wrong on this point.
I worked at an EB games and we had a manager who was dedicated to selling stuff the same way Gerard claims he was. The general manager had to tell him to knock it off because customers were complaining about how insistent he was. You don't have to put effort into talking to customers about video games, they come to you for that. Literally customers often come to the store intending to ask you about which ones are good or not and why. Almost every employee who works at a place like that is passionate about video games and will hype up their favourite games, Gerard would not have stood out in that regard unless he was over the top about it, which customers DON'T like.
Moony's argument amounts to "You couldn't show a TH-cam video to a judge in court and fully get a conviction solely on that". Like no shit? No one ever claimed you could.
Moony: "You couldn't show a TH-cam video to a judge in court and fully get a conviction solely on that" Judge: "Ok, what's your evidence?" Moony: "Oh, this one youtube video!"

“You don’t find the label to fit the deed and gather evidence after the fact” I’m no fancy city lawyer, but if someone confesses to a crime; that’s the exact order it would go in. You know the deed because they admitted to it, so you label the crime, and then go and build the case.
Actually if someone confessed to a crime like that unprompted, the police would first find out if the crime happened, if the person did in fact commit the crime, and then charge them. Or that's how it should go, assuming the cops did their jobs properly, i.e. building the case first, then charging the person.
@@lw8882 but they would be investigating that crime. If you confessed to murder, they’d be calling it a murder investigation then going to build a murder case. It’s exactly what I wrote

The following is still the most amazing part of this story for me… I had never heard the name Karl Jobst in my life, until I happened to tune in to the revamped X-Play to see if it was worth the time (it wasn’t), BUT on the episode, someone mentioned the WATA and fraud situations. This someone was very passionate about the potential market manipulation and it’s effect on a hobby he loves. He suggested specifically to go seek out a pair of investigative long form videos on TH-cam by a man named Karl Jobst. I found it intriguing and did so, and now here we are years later… The person who was hyping up Jobst, his work, and encouraging the audience to find his stuff and get educated, as I imagine you’ve already figured out… Jirard the Completionist.

A lot of people have viewed Jirard that way until very recently (I always had my doubts about Jirard but never expected charity fraud). That said, Moony did end up taking down that video after he realized it was doing more damage than good while admitting he was basically completely wrong. Guess that's what happens when you make a video of a serious topic without doing thorough research... sigh. Moony's other content is better at least (this was actually pretty atypical of his average video)
@@Ghostrander it's so funny, he put that video out to help Jirard but it backfired spectacularly. This video exposes him way more than the previous ones.
People are blaming Karl for the backlash Moonie is getting, but it was Moonie's own ineffective research that caused this video. Karl has EVERY right to defend himself. And every serious youtuber (Moonie included) gets sponsorships. This is a moot point.
He got backlash long before this video, and it's for good reason. This video itself is Karl backlashing. The way he describes a legal case, the lawyers aren't allowed to make any accusations in their opening statements and only start gathering evidence after the trial begins.
You're assuming that he being a lawyer means that he understands everything that he covers. He's not a Charity Tax and Charity Fraud lawyer. Obviously he was always going to be wrong when going at Karl.

No, he points out how shaky of a legal case the given accusations would be. That's all he even tried to do, explicitly stating multiple times he had problems with Jirard's handling overall but that moral and legal are not the same in this case. @MaddieGirl.23
“You can’t tell what’s illegal or not if you haven’t studied the law”. Why is a bystander able to tell when a race car has crashed if they’ve never driven one?
As Steve Hofstetter once said in response to a heckler telling him he couldn’t criticise bad parents if he doesn’t have kids: “I’ve never flown a helicopter. But if I see one in a tree, I can be like, ‘Dude fucked up.’”
Exactly. There are a lot of “experts” out there who love to tell people what to think. It doesn’t take an expert to see the truth and recognize lies. Usually just a few brain cells are enough.
Twisting everything to support an agenda that paints one side in the best light and one side in the worst light, with zero attempt made to respect reality or the truth. Sounds like how lawyers approach things to me.
Technically this would be a condensed opening argument and closing argument without anything in between as Karl's original video was made like an essay with an opening and closing statements. Also, the lawyer never said they were approaching it as a "good" lawyer in either sense of the word (skill AND morality) because honestly every time someone starts their "criticism" video by saying that the person or entity they're criticizing is just doing it for money, that's scummy and immoral as hell in my opinion.
WOW. Those receipts about the timeline of his mother and her battle are CRAZY. The amount of time the story shifts slightly is incredibly telling. A person simply DOES NOT forget the details of a life changing event like this, especially if you are a child/teenager. Those few clips cement the notion that NOTHING he says can be taken without a gallon of salt.
When I saw the first few clips, it sounded like a pretty weak argument as they seemed somewhat out of context...then it kept going and going and going. What it proves to me is NOT that every single time was a malicious lie, but that Jerard does manipulate the narrative to help sell people on his "charitable work" and tries to paint his mother's story as "above average". It's pretty scummy, but tbf, most people have kind of known he likes to exaggerate to boost his ego for years. It's nothing new.

The true irony in all this is that Jirard claims he stockpiled the money for a restricted donation so it wouldn't just go to some CEO's expenses, where instead the money just went to his expenses
As a viewer and fan of this man’s content I can 100% confirm his idea that simply watching his videos does not mean we now have all the important information he does. The reason I say this is because recently I took some time to find and watch Billy Mitchell’s full deposition. The guy is absolutely insane, and almost every response of his could be an entire video in itself, but Karl chose to only focus on a few key moments to expose his most egregious and provable lies that stood out to him. Karl is at the heart of these battles, so of course he has way more information than what he chooses to present to us for content.
This is honestly what almost EVERY person who tries to argue with Karl misses! I've actually wondered if it might help Karl to always state that there is always more you can research for yourself. Might help his branding.
Honestly it's an important thing to bear in mind in all aspects of life. Even in an ordinary conversation with someone, the thoughts they put into words are a slice of the thoughts they have, because communication is limited by time and effort by both parties. There's always something more you don't know, you have to trust that what's being shared is just the most significant part.
I don't know where I got it from, but someone said something like "always assume the other side knows things you don't". I'm trying to take this to heart, and it changed the way I approach discussions. well, most of the times 😅
its almost like Karls primary motivation is to make engaging entertainment, not wanting to go into every little thing and present an entire court case worth of evidence for a youtube video. Of course the information is cherrypicked.
@@T3RR4212 I feel like “cherry picked” isn’t a very good word. The information he provides to us is well researched and relevant. He doesn’t choose to leave out certain details to sway us to a certain narrative. I commented on the last video about how this whole thing hurts me because my grandma was struggling with dementia, and i was a big fan of Jirard's work . She has since lost that battle, and now that hurt has turned to legitimate anger. I'm absolutely livid that someone who i admired for the work he did could lie like this. It's sickening.
This post right here^ is justification enough for Karl's investigation into those swindlers and embezzlers. Sorry for your loss. For all those who are still on Jirard or Moony's side are only exposing themselves as partisans.
Sorry to hear that she passed away, I know this likely won't mean a whole lot as I'm just some guy on the internet but I hope you and your family are doing okay as can be with your loss.
I appreciate the kind words, it's been rough but my family and myself are getting through her loss. She was a great woman, the kind of the person in the family that brought us all together. The only solace in her passing is knowing that she isn't suffering anymore, and sometimes that's the best we can get from the game of life.
it seems so...because every comment that I left on moon's video about "how come he didn't listen to the last discord interview call with Jirard?" got deleted
Until this video, I thought maybe Jirard was in the bad position of having to choose between doing the right thing and his family. This shows just how complicit he is. I know Moony apologized, good on him for admitting he was wrong, but please don't ever take this down.
@@fomori2 I'm pretty sure one video that he did as a one off and wasn't meant to be anything serious other than addressing the mod mentality isn't enough to show that Moonie is a bad lawyer. Pretty sure if money was on the line and he had to win an actual case for his client, he would put more research into it than he did for some random youtube video he just did for the heck of it.
I mean he’s probably not a bad guy but just made a terrible decision years ago and has kept it up. That’s how corruption starts; its easier to lie and try to protect his image as much as he can than to admit to his fans and the legal system that what he did was essentially theft.
Looks? If you still think otherwise I wouldn’t trust you. He is 100% a compulsive liar. There are like 17 different direct statements in this video alone where he is objectively fabricating the truth/stories for no discernible reason or personal gain.
It's kind of ironic that anime lawyer "helping" Jirard actually led to Karl showing many more facts of Jirard's lies. Which Karl hadn't shown before. This shows us that it's all but some sort of personal vendetta, as Karl left many of these facts out in his previous videos, to not muddle the case.
Yeah. "Looks" like one. The funny thing is that he always was one but didn't look like it. Now he looks like it because the truth of who he is has come forward.
I got sick the other day and considered blowing my nose and taking dayquil to soothe my congestion- until I realized that I have no doctoral training and decided to make an appointment and wait to be diagnosed by a professional he said it was a cold and now I owe 2000$
all that for only $2000? either this happened many many decades ago or u "convinced" the doctor to lower the price by giving him the worlds best head lmao
Man I really like how Karl demonstrates how much of a pathological liar Jirard is. I've unfortunately been one of those people who defended Jirard in the past. I was a decade long fan and constantly fell for his bullshit. Needless to say, Jirard is a master manipulator. He knows how to fein remorse and absolutely knows how to farm sympathy. If I wasn't tight on money, I probably would've contributed to indieland last year. But for me, the call Karl had with Jirard was what opened my eyes to how pathetic Jirard is. The part where Jirard is guilt tripping them with the wellbeing of his employees really makes my blood boil. People like Jirard exist everywhere and it's really hard to see through their deception and manipulation. We need shrewd people like Karl who can smell the bullshit and have the balls to call them out. Kudos Karl on an excellent job.
Jirard is not a master manipulator. He's a standard manipulator. If he were a master manipulator he'd have been able to come out of this looking a lot cleaner than he did. He's soiled AF now. That's not a master manipulator. That's just a standard BS artist
I would go further. Clearly, doctors, teachers, firefighters, etc., should also be looked down upon if they want to get paid for their jobs. I mean, it's obvious that a guy running into a burning building that might collapse has ulterior motives if he ends up getting paid.
im looking at firefighters different now. i wouldn't let one save me from a burning building, wouldn't be genuine. they're getting...PAID to do it..? GROSS 🤮🤮🤮
'The Completionist' received donations for years by claiming that they were partnered and money received would be donated to said partner(s). They weren't partnered and the money wasn't being donated. In a word; fraud.
And even if it's not. What does it change? He still failed to donate the money entrusted to him for many years and lied about it on a regular basis. If, for example, it's decided that it's not a crime in the eyes of the law for some reason, he is still a horrible disgusting person. That's ultimately my problem with people like this Moony lawyer. I'm not a lawyer, we are not in a courtroom, don't try to persuade me that Jirard did no crime. Criminal or not, what he did was extremely unethical, immoral and scammy.
@@kosmosycheThere is no, "even if it's not." He committed fraud and when he had a chance to make things right, he tried to copyright strike a video, he made legal threats, and then in his apology he admitted to committing fraud. He had had a chance to make things right by doing a full investigation and apologizing. Instead, he posted random links to IRS glossaries and posted an autopsy report for his mother. Deflection. Smoke. Mirrors. Jirard knew what he was doing in his response video. He knows he's guilty. If the hold on the money was a true mistake, he wouldn't have been name dropping organizations he didn't have any partnerships with. Funny thing is that Open Hand quietly updated their website to remove the fraud on their page. Fingers crossed he is held criminally accountable. It's far too often that people get away with this stuff and when they do, it serves as ammo for why "charities are all bad." ❤
@@reidye I don't listen to anyone claiming to be professional while not using their name. About half of people that get a J.D. are not practicing lawyers. Law school is a huge scam.
As a kid I was a habitual liar and couldn't help but lie about almost everything. It came so natural because of the way I grew up that I had to unlearn it in my adulthood. I cringe every time I hear Jirard speak because it sounds just like me when I would just let it get out of hand by blowing it up more and more. Then get caught lying and didn't know what to do so I'd just get mad at them for catching me in my own lie.
Same, but I still didn't unlearn it, it's so natural I don't even know how to start, if I was truthful I would get in trouble, but if I lied there's I chance I could avoid it, or get in trouble if they found out about it. If you are getting in trouble anyway, why not just try to get out of it if you can?
@@lucasLSD That's what being an adult means. You make mistakes. You admit it. You apologize and try to repair the bad consequences as best as you can. Being in trouble is only trouble if you refuse to look in the mirror.
Anytime I hear Jirard say “my mom”…. The only thing I can think of is how much his mom would be ashamed her son grew up to be such a liar that he doesent even know his lying.
Yeah. I feel so bad for her because her memory was used in this way. She didn't deserve to be involved in this, but the completionist just had to tie everything to her.
She raised him as far as his teenage years. She chose his father as a suitable spouse before her dementia. Anything Jirard does, she had a hand in shaping him to be that person. She doesn't get an out just be being dead.
What kind of lawyer makes public statements on a legal matter without researching it first. I hope the clients he takes receive better treatment than this.
Yeah I mean all that happened was he’s part of the “lawyer who makes TH-cam videos” genre and he probably got viewers asking him to respond to Karl’s video and he saw it and his knee jerk reaction was that Karl was just looking for content so he decided to take the tack of “””skeptic””” but it backfired
I love how everytime a greedy person or corporation is exposed by Karl they immediately just say Karl was the one who was greedy and then they just call it a day like that was a great defense
Or… no? He’s just doing exactly what they do, except in a TH-cam format. It doesn’t remove the need for them in our society altogether. He’s simply also one of them. That’s like becoming a doctor and saying, “This doctor is single handedly making professional doctors and nurses question their job security.” That’s just weird. We still need doctors and nurses. We still need PI and Investigative Reporters. It just so happens that Karl is a good investigator.
Yeah. I've seen people do this with LLMs and ai tech bros but I, a person who was getting a degree in CSE AI before i ran out of finances, know nothing of ai. Despite these ai tech bros were all about the block chain two months ago and only "studied" LLMs after gpt got popular. Whereas I had to make one in 2010. The only reason I'd argue to listen to me over them is I have been studying them since I was in highschool by abusing AOL chat bots. I know the first LLM is from the 70s-80s where people thought a human was trapped inside the computer. Maddog also tried this against pat and Karl.
If no one questioned whether something is legal or not, then lawyers wouldn't have a job as no one would file lawsuits. Essentially, Moon is saying, "You don't know the law, so don't talk about the law, don't question if something is illegal, don't call a lawyer, don't give us money." It's no different to "Sellsword Arts" who recently went on a rant with the message "If you don't practice the art, you shouldn't talk about the art" as he was trying to call out other creators till he backprdalled immediatly as he essentially just told 99% of his audience to not talk about swords. this video dissection is just a home run, The Completionist stand no chance in defending himself. The only way he can redeem his integrity is to own up to his mistakes.

For those that dont know it, here is moony apology that he made in the pinned comment of the video: I watched the response video. Instead of adding to Karl's legal fees, or making a response video of my own, I just wanted to apologize. I thought the video was both level-headed, and insightful. And I appreciate that. Karl is right: I didn't engage with the entire body of evidence, thereby getting crucial facts wrong -- I also unnecessarily brought in his finances, I took what should've been a neutral legal analysis and made it hostile towards him (and Mutahar) without just cause, and I came away with a flawed conclusion as a result. My video was put together hastily, and without the care such a serious matter deserves. This situation has been a good learning experience for me when it comes to how best to make TH-cam videos in the future, especially those which might touch upon legal topics. As I said in my own video, professionals have standards! And it's time to think about and raise my own. If, in the future, we do see Jirard or Open Hand bite the metaphorical bullet, I'll make an apology video of sorts, dissecting the problems in my prior video as a legal exercise, explaining in detail what I got wrong. Karl, if you're reading this, if that day comes, I'd even like to talk to you about it perhaps, and put your thoughts directly in that video as a way of burying the hatchet. Despite my past snippiness, I do appreciate the work that you've done in bringing attention to the injustice in the world. It is my own zeal, perhaps, that has been misplaced. When you're wrong, you're wrong, and I sincerely apologize. Best of luck in your ongoing legal matters, Karl. I'm genuinely sorry about the trouble, and hope that you'll push through your legal battles stronger than before. Thank you, everyone, for reading. - Moony
It takes quite the man to admit he's wrong like that in the height of an internet fight. I'm sure we've all said things or had uninformed opinions that we now look back and cringe on, it's good that he can be so open about it and learn from it, rather than descend into more of a fight because of a bruised ego like so many would. Props to him genuinely.
Gee, if only he’d post that under this video. And seems to avoid mentioning that he was adamant about his points in the video when defending himself online until Karl’s video was released…
And THIS is how you do an apology. Good man, for at least owning up to his mistakes without making any excuses or shifting the blame. **cough** Jirard **cough**
> Instead of adding to Karl's legal fees, Fuck this moony, guy. What a vailed threat/parting shot. Was Moony insinuating he gonna sue Karl to make his life potentially hell or something? why mention that? Fuck this piece of shit "lawyer"
A comment on moist's video NEEDS to be heard: "It’s so precious for Jirard to say they were waiting to make a restricted donation because they didn’t want the money to cover operational costs for another charity, while using donations to cover indieland expenses."
❎ Covering costs related to the operation of actual non-profits performing dementia research, and distributing aid to the families of dementia patients...? 😠👎 🎯 Covering costs related to hosting video game events & golf tournaments "for charity"...? 😇👍👍👍👍🤑👌
My mom actually works as a nonprofit accountant and the efficiency at which charities can use their donated funds declines a lot when they’re not allowed to hire any employees. Most donations are restricted and restricted donations usually don’t allow for payment of employees, and it sends most charities that are actually doing stuff into deep wells of inefficiency. If you’re given $1million to cure cancer but only a few hundred to pay people to find the doctors and arrange the agreement, that $1million is going to be sitting around for a looong time. If you’re donating to a functioning charity, so not one that just disperses money to other charities, then restricted donations actually cause more harm than good.
@@coyote2733 I've always found it a little ridiculous, because what difference does it make to me if the money an employee gets technically comes from "my" donation or someone else's? The money has to come from somewhere. It seems a little selfish in fact, because the only way a person can get away with giving a restricted donation is if enough other people suck it up and give unrestricted donations to cover necessary administrative costs...something that the person looks down on and obviously thinks is bad. Like, thinking they're better than people like me because they don't give unrestricted donations, while relying on people like me in order to have a functional charity to give restricted donations to in the first place. I guess I'm just annoyed when people present a decision as 100% practical and logical, when in reality it just makes them feel better. I also hate the objection so many people seem to instinctually have against employees making money while working for non-profits. I want charities to be successful, and unfortunately that requires competing with for-profit companies. If the only institutions allowed to pay their workers a competitive wage are for-profit businesses...then non-profits are screwed. It's fundamentally punishing charities - and only charities - for being forced to operate under capitalism. Sorry /end rant
Have yet to see one of Jirard's defenders respond to these two inconsistent statements: 1) Jirard repeatedly claimed that they were donating money (present tense) even going so far as to claim to be one foundation's biggest donor. 2) Jirard admitted on the call with Karl and Muta that no money had ever been donated, and that he found that out in 2021. And that's *before* we look at the pretty obvious problems with the actual amounts being inconsistent with even the most conservative estimates of how much money should be in that account.
@atomzero1 But you probably will here soon. He'll probably think, "Actually that's a really good defense. I might be able to sell that." I figure that's what happened with the restricted donation defense. SoG mentioned in his video as a point he hadn't thought of and that it could have weight. Suddenly that's the reason even though it's inconsistent with the events as Jirard himself has stated.
Only thing I can interpret charitably is the fact that Jirard said his mum got dementia when he was 10 and that she got diagnosed when he was 15, and that it took 5 years to get a diagnosis; those 3 statements together make sense. Everything else is nonsense.
@@neros_soren they never claimed he actually said that, they said "basically" which means they are summing up the claims he made. get better at baiting
@@Niskirin Not really. Factual statements of law should be made carefully AND with some knowledge of the topic at hand. Karl made a factual claim, Mutahar on the other hand always had a disclaimer, that he will not make factual statements about laws, because he is not a lawyer. Literally what Moony was referring to. "Only make such a statement, if you can understand the law." If Karl was right about this, we would not have laws against this in place. There is always a difference been a factual statement and an opinion. guess which one Karl made several times in his videos?

Agreed!
For sure!
It was like watching a Tiger take down a sheep.
The other day, I saw a guy getting held up and robbed at gun point. I was going to call the police, but then I thought "wait a minute.... I'm not a lawyer. I can't determine if this is illegal."

Yeah I don't know in what universe Jirard was "lower middle class."
His mom took him on a 9 month road trip with a guru, spent half a million, and his father didn't even fucking notice.

It’s kinda nuts that BOTH times Karl was accused of spreading fraud accusations for money, it was regarding videos that he didn’t sponsor.

He chooses to leave out details that aren’t particularly important to affirming what he’s proven with the information he’s covered already.
Karl has two primary motivations. One is entertainment as you’ve said, but also to inform us properly on the goings on of these things. If he just wanted to amuse us, he could’ve just gone “jirard kinda sus” and left it at that instead of dedicating hours of his life to researching this guy and showing official documentation of his crimes.

I watched the response video.

"It’s so precious for Jirard to say they were waiting to make a restricted donation because they didn’t want the money to cover operational costs for another charity, while using donations to cover indieland expenses."
❎ Covering costs related to the operation of actual non-profits performing dementia research, and distributing aid to the families of dementia patients...? 😠👎
🎯 Covering costs related to hosting video game events & golf tournaments "for charity"...?
Have yet to see one of Jirard's defenders respond to these two inconsistent statements:

2) Jirard admitted on the call with Karl and Muta that no money had ever been donated, and that he found that out in 2021.
And that's *before* we look at the pretty obvious problems with the actual amounts being inconsistent with even the most conservative estimates of how much money should be in that account.
