    Good video Matt, thx for the share! I'm fixing to do a friends bearing on an '05, my only advice from past experience, when pounding the bearing out, make sure the spindle assembly is on a stable, firm setting, every time you hit it on the vice n it moves, you're losing striking power. On some spindles I've set it on the ground studs down, with something keeping the studs off the ground. Have a good one man!

    Great job. You made my morning watching the cute guy. Funny how my Eclipse 03 has the exact same issue and another person did a vid on it (same wheel too. Must be a Mitsubishi thing.

    I like the way you proctect the joint and your equipement. Must guys just hammered like crazy and breaks everything. You will need to find a way that the piece don't move when you hit it with your hammer. you loose a lot of power. Another thing. Kudos for the quality of the images and sound. Too often its good but crappy. Good day

    I didn't have that amount of patience knocking that old bearing out, so I took it to a machine shop to have it pressed out and new bearing pressed in.

    Great video, gave me more insight on the job I'm going to perform on my mirage. Just wanted to add that you probably would have gotten the axle nut off with the impact wrench if you would have used actual impact sockets. I've found in this kind of situations that using plain sockets will make the socket vibrate on the nut a lot and sort of dance around instead of spinning the socket out.

    I need to change a driver wheel bearing on my OZ lancer. and i'm suprised how much you have to do just to change a wheel bearing. My F150 i changed the outer without even taking the roter off.

    Doing the same job with some incite for you if your not already aware. I assume you didn't have access to a press because you can avoid all the pounding. Also on assembly if you put the spindle in the oven at 350 for 15 minutes or so it makes install almost effortless. Also put the bearing and hub in the freezer while heating the spindle. Hope this helps

    I have an important question. I have a 2006 Lancer OZ Rally, will the Lancer Es wheel bearings fit the OZ Rally? I need a front right wheel bearing and all the parts stores around me ( AutoZone, Smyths, O Reilys ) only have the wheel bearings for the ES models< not the OZ Rallys so I was wondering are they the same?

      cindalee1993 only way to tell is to take it all apart and see if it's the same size is yours 4 lug as well if so I wouldn't see why there would be a difference

    Why didn't you take your hammer and hit the handle down tighter on your vise so you have to keep re tightening the vise

      To others who are about to do this this method shown in the video runs a good chance of causing premature wear and damage to press style bearings. It's likely not a bad product but poor installation method.

    what size socket do you use with the bolts in order to pound out the bearing and the part with the lug nuts on it? I need to know the size of the socket to use because i don't have anything around my house that will work. Thanks

    • @MattsMotorz
      @MattsMotorz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Damn I don't remember. I believe to hammer out the hub (first one) it was a 1,1/4" socket, and to hammer out the bearing it was a 36 mm socket. Not 100% though. The best thing to do would be to bring the hub assembly to the auto parts store and compare the sockets there with the hub / bearing and buy the ones that fit.

      MattsMotorz Ya Thats what i ended up doing. I have to bring it back down there tomorrow cause i got the hub out now i need one big enough to get the bearing out. Thanks for the videos they really help.

    If you would have loosened the sway bar you wouldn't have so much tension on spindle assembly at strut

    How do you guys know when the bearing is bad o needs a replacement?

    • @MattsMotorz
      @MattsMotorz  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I made a video on how to check. Search my channel for "how to check for a bad wheel bearing"

    • @Hammy-Hamm
      @Hammy-Hamm 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes, in most cases you can lift the car or vehicle up to where said wheel is off the ground and wiggle the wheel. If theres a noise or more movement then your comfortable with then its time to change the bearing.

    Were you actually surprised? Lol. Man...there are definitely better ways to do this job.

    you wouldnt happen to know if this is the same procedure with a lancer Oz Rally ?

    • @MattsMotorz
      @MattsMotorz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure, but if it is of a similar year, I would imagine the procedure would be at the very least pretty similar.

    Yeah, everything went okay until i got to the control arm. I can't knock the thing out of there, I've tried penetrating oil and a torch but nothing will knock it loose. Got everything else loosened, so this is the only thing holding me up :(

    • @jameshughes131
      @jameshughes131 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea you take the control arm off with it then. I found that the bolt from the control arm and the hub was so tight i couldnt get it

    • @zedsdead7670
      @zedsdead7670 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A small gear or pulley puller will get it out. I recently had this issue but I had neither of the tools need to do it so I just done it right there with a bearing press.

    Holy molly man, get a better vice, that one sucks, I know because I inherited one from me dear old dad, it's okay to hold a piece you're welding, but it has no real gripping power
