  • In this video, The Drivers side wheel bearing had started to fail on my 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer, though the process for removing the wheel bearing and pressing them out are the same on both the drivers side and passengers side. I had done the passengers side previously, but because I was stuck at home at the time longing for human interaction and something to do why not do both. It is a rather simple process, some basic tools will remove the knuckle from the vehicle and a shop press or wheel bearing removal tool is needed to extract the bearing. Overall I can say that it was a easy repair for me to do and I could have done it within about a Hour-Thirty to Two though I was hanging it out. As normal don't forget to comment, like and hit that subscribe button as well as check out my channel content for more. and have fun and stay safe.

    Man I wish I didn't live in the rust belt. I have an 09 which is just about rotted away. To see an 02 in such nice condition (metal wise)

      Your Welcome! I'm glad that it was able to aid in your repair. Even if I'm not saying anything, I always try to record what I'm doing as it may not only be the only time it is attempted but it may also show something overlooked.

    Are front bearings a common problem for M.Lancer? I had the same problem with mine had to change all the front and my back bearings are little bit loose.

    What did you use to tighten the axle bolt? The long skinny tool?
    This was super helpful, thank you.

      Yep! My long pry-bar was being used at the time to replace my sub floor so I decided to use that. Advice use a long pry bar or forged bar, the tire iron dug in to my concrete and looking back had wayyy to much flex for my liking.

    Can we not buy the hub with the bearing already installed?

    is there a way to get the bearing into the hub without a press?

      Yes! there are alternative methods for removing the bearing from the steering knuckle. There is a a kit that is able to be "rented" from select auto parts stores that I have used in the past with little frustration before purchasing the Matco 63728 and are really handy for not having to remove the steering knuckle. I personally was taught to use a shop press, but own and used both the kit and the press.
      Harbor freight has a good kit appears, here is the model number: MADDOX 63728

    Hey, What kind of pliers did you use?

    • @Alexa_Spencer
      @Alexa_Spencer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was using slightly less than 90° offset long reach bent nose pliers as I think your referring to the removal of the bearing retaining clip. No?

    Where do you get your torque specs?

      OEM specs I use Mitchell1, All Data and sometimes Identifix and for aftermarket parts I use manufacturer website combined OEM spec.
