I wish I had found you years ago. I enjoy your style of getting things done. I always watch video before doing the job. It made changing the CV's so much easier!
Well done; Video got right to the point. Found this clip because my son's 2009 Santa Fe inner CV boot ripped. Process seems to match very closely to what we need to do. Thanks for posting.
You should have mentioned to keep the nut on the end of the CV axle. I thought I was following your instructions and I tapped on the end of the axle and gummed up the thread so the axle nut would not go back on to the axle, It was not in view of the camera.
Was pulling a axle hub and put everything back after a couple hours of some fun and fired up the engine to double check everything and I started to go forward in neutral ugh! I am guessing I didn't seat the axle enough thank you for your making such a good video!
had both new axles put in by a very competent mechanic the other day. The driver side came out of the tranny and is leaking like crazy, a Valvoline oil change shop told me today. Can the shaft be tapped or hammered back in by only removing the outside axle nut? Thank you
This was amazing! Both sides of my CV axles need replaced. Quoted $4300 (2018 Kia Sedona). Does that seem high considering how easy the job would be for an actual mechanic? I will still have a mechanic do it because I don't think I'm strong enough as a 64 yo woman but you made it VERY easy to understand. 10 years ago I would be out there with your video playing as I go! Can't wait to see what other videos you have!
Do you need a front-end alignment after doing this? Also, I'm thinking if I jack up the side I'm working on a little higher than the other side, it might hold the fluid in without leaking.
Mazda 3 auto...no room for the pry bar on driver side and no tabs! Must use a puller, like a huge crows foot that gets back under CV and attaches to a slide hammer. Impossible to do without it. And it matters if its an auto or manual as the manual axles are 3/4" longer for some reason. Ask me how I found out...:-( Passenger side has access to back flange to hammer out.
I change my lower control arm both driver n passenger side 2011 Elantra . My cv axle nut could not be removed it’s so hard on their . I use breaker bar n t bar . I am trying to replace da seal on driver side . Also seal inside the chamber hole it’s small seal that’s coming from Canada. Taking a week still not here yet.
Some hearing protection would be a good idea as well. Those electric impact guns can make your ears ring. If you are like me, you have tinnitus and don't want to worsen it. I've done this job serval times and I always replace the axle. I'd hate to do all that work and replace just the boot, only to have the axle go bad in 6 months. And then you'll have to do it all over again and replace the axle.
Great! my right cv joint is making cracking noises when I accelerate while making u turns. I think the bearings are shot so I'll might be replacing this soon.
I attempted this one time and damaged the inner transmission seal as I was pulling the old axle out with the help of a pry bar. The dealership charged me $500 to install a new seal.

@@GettinJunkDoneThe passenger-side axle fell out of the tranny of my 2005 Korean Sonata V6. Looks like the universal busted. Not having a garage, I bought another car.
Stupid question: is this on the front driver's side? This axle, are there two? On for the front left driver side and one for the front passenger side? I have already replace a lot of parts of my suspension but the sounds I am hearing are clearly from a CV axle. I have. Kia sorento xm from 2010, 197 bhp automatic transmission, fwd.
Yep. Should be one cos mine was not put back so the shaft slipped out and I had to strip and gently knock the tripod further back to fit the circuit I am not a mechanic but thanks to TH-cam, I completed the job in 55 mins
Hey Matt, thanks for the comment. I'll be bringing this up on tonight's live stream. Episode 18, October 18, at 7pm EST. Hope you can make it, or check it out later.
I am wondering if putting that thick grease onto the end of the axle shaft before reinstalling the axle into the transaxle will harm the transmission by blending in with the transmission fluid because it is on the drive axle output shaft side of the trans axle. The opposite side is just the axle side, but the drivers side seems to have more exposure to the internal components of the transmission. Is this a safe method for an installation lubrication? Would using 90 weight gear oil be safe to use or should I only be using transmission fluid for lubrication?
I'm not a mechanic but these are the typical sounds your suspension parts will make: Wheel bearings will usually make a growling/humming/grinding sound. Inner CV joints will make a clunking sound while driving straight, while outer CV's make funny sounds when turning your steering and you accelerate (that way you'll even even which outer cv has gone bad). And typically speaking; if anything that has bushings on your suspension goes bad, there'll be a metal on metal type of a sound and an uncomfortable knocking sounds on uneven roads since there's no more proper cushioning or friction reduction in place Ball joints, shock mountings, control arms, tie rods and ball joints will definitely confuse you until you do a thorough check up since they have vibration isolators (i.e. rubber bushings)
Hopefully you've gotten this figured out by now, but I bet if you keep working at it, the axle will eventually come out. Try some penetrating fluid where it enters the transmission, and tapping on the shaft with a rubber mallet or dead blow hammer. Hopefully the shock and penetrating fluid will free it up.

Yep good video , Straight to the point and no hours of needless waffle. Very helpful and easy to follow :)
Good demonstration. Happy to see that you torqued the axle nut.
Thank you for this video. You've given me the confidence to do my son's car now 👍🏼
You got this! If a moron like me can handle this, anyone can. Let me know how it goes.
Nice very clear, yes you are absolutely correct THIS IS WHAT VIDEO IS ALL ABOUT to save money and learn too. Thumbs up...

That's a good point. It would be smart to do that!
Very good. You make it look easy.
Well, bits really not too bad in the end. Just a few more steps from doing a brake job.
Thank you so much for another GREAT VIDEO, learned too much. Thanks and God Bless

Amazing, thank you for sharing. I now havethe confidence to give this a go 👍🏻💪🏻
can't believe it! the car I'm working on is a 2002 Hyundai accent!! perfect video..Thanx...very well done
Glad it helped!
sure did..but one of the strut bolts was frozen so the job was a bust..couldn't help sister..
Thanks buddy that's a great help . I'm about to do a set on my ford territory awd . Cheers

That’s an insane price
This is gold!

Once again, you're right on all accounts. I should e been wearing hearing protection, and normally I do.

How about the transmission fluid lost while removing the old axle? Should the fluid level be checked and eventually add some?
Allow me for using your video for our lesson, thank you!
Is the left drive shaft the same length as the right drive shaft?
Thank you for the tutorial. Excellent work! Is it okay to use copper grease as lube for the axle?
How much transmission oil did you lose? Do you check the level afterwards?
Thanks
Not enough ot worry about. Level was fine afterwards.
I attempted this one time and damaged the inner transmission seal as I was pulling the old axle out with the help of a pry bar. The dealership charged me $500 to install a new seal.
Great JOB .that is what I have to do to my 98 chevy malibu LS .
Very encouraging video and well done. Thanks!!!
Need an alignment after this procedure?!
Thank You.

To be honest, I am not really sure. I no longer own this car, otherwise I'd go out and take a look. Hopefully, someone that can help will chime in.

I have a bad cv joint an this video save me
Whay about the gear oil do you need to refill?
Would a Nissan x trail 2004 4x4 be very similar?
Thanks. Helped me out.
Excellent video! Thanks!
Good information, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
super great video
Thanks man appreciate it
Thanks for the view and comment!
Thanks
Excellent job. One thing is u never cleaned the grease of the rotor.
Do you have to get a wheel alignment after replacing the axles?
No you don't, I did several of these. You only do that when you change tie rod ends, etc.
Great Vid! Nice job!
Shouldn’t there be a round clip in a groove at the end of the shaft that goes in the transmission?
Yep. Should be one cos mine was not put back so the shaft slipped out and I had to strip and gently knock the tripod further back to fit the circuit

Great job bud. You have convinced me. I need a ryobi impact. Is that a brushless one?

excellent instructions and video. thank you / merci , you sure made that look easy , you just need safety glasses and gloves now ! cheers
good video bro.
Appreciate it!
Thanks I was looking for the nut size 32 mm so I can go get one and get his job done my self and save some money 💰. Thanks again
Eish, I wish I had viewed this before I stuffed up the perfect inner boot, and the brake caliper rubber bits.
Thanks
I've got to do this on my 1999 Hyundai Accent, is it much the same?

2010 fusion. I hear minor sound every now and then. How to be sure the sound I hear is an axle joint and not shock absorber.

@@mthombenimasonwabe I appreciate it. I'll take a look at it when I get back home.
this helped me alot thank you man i subscribed to you
Same process for the other side?
Should be real similar, if not the same.
A bit more too it than just an oil change but you can do this you will certainly save a lot a money on repair bills.
I can't get the axel out. Seems frozen in. Can I just replace the outer cv joint?
Hopefully you've gotten this figured out by now, but I bet if you keep working at it, the axle will eventually come out.
